Science/Technology / Faster Internet With Li-fi by jo101: 7:16am On Dec 04, 2015
There has been a lot of buzz recently about a developing innovation that could help satisfy all our internet speed thirsts. This is Li-fi it is 100 times faster than Wi-fi. The second surprising part of this new technology is that instead of using a router just like wi-fi it uses household light bulbs as a wireless hotspot to transfer data. Li-fi has been in development for few years back and a company called Velmenni was about to achieve speeds of about 1Gbps in the real world which includes business, home and industrial use. What has really shocked people this year is that researchers from the University of Oxford were about to achieve speeds of about 224 Gbps.

Jokes Etc / The #hellochallenge In Nigeria by jo101: 1:33am On Nov 21, 2015
A sort of madness in the form of the #HelloChallenge has started up and below is the Nigerian version of it. The #HelloChallenge basically involves chatting with someone with the lyrics of the song Helo by Adele. It is kinda funny when you do it and see the reaction of some people.

Jobs/Vacancies / Tired Of Waiting? This Is How To Pass That Job Interview by jo101: 7:01am On Nov 04, 2015
Now a days getting a job is pretty hard and I can imagine how bad you would feel if you got the chance to get that job of your dreams but you didn't get it because of some little factors that you change in some minutes. Most people find it really had to get a job even when the opportunity presents itself. It could be because of the way you act, the way you dress or the way you talk and communicate your ideas to the interviewers. These little things can go a long way to giving you an edge and ultimately giving you the job. I am going to assume your resume/cv is in good shape . I am just going to go over some little tips that could help you in most job interviews.

1. Know the Company whose job you are getting interviewed for. You could check their websites or social media accounts to find out a little bit more about the company. This could could a long way in helping you later.

2. Beef up your cv/resume and make sure it is ready. You may want to take a spare printed copies for emergencies or stories that touch.

3. Dress well. This is one of the reasons you need to know the company you are getting interviewed for. So that you would know if the company's dress code is strictly professional or if they allow casual dressing. If you are still not sure of what to wear you could hang out at a restaurant or a fast food joint near the company and try and notice the dressing of the employees. You may think this is taking it too far but you really want this job and may not want to lose it because your dress code was wrong.

Following my last post "Current rise in e-commerce websites in Nigeria - Good or Bad news?" which you can read here. We ended up concluding that the pros of e-commerce websites in Nigeria actually out weigh the cons.So this inspired me to write a simple tutorial on how you can set up an e-commerce website yourself as a business owner without spending extreme amounts of money and you can finish up in 24 hours. There are a lot of Open-source and free scripts out there that could help you create your own e-commerce website. By the way a script is what you may call software. These Open-source scripts are free and most of them are scalable and efficient. They are easy to use and I'm just going to introduce to you how you can make them work for your business. I decided to pick Prestashop because it efficient, easy to use and has beautiful themes you can purchase. To begin go to the Prestashop website here. You will be provided with two options to either create your online store on the cloud or to download the prestashop install code. I am going to take a second to explain the two different options. The create on the cloud means that you register with prestashop then they automatically create your online store for you on their servers and they host it for you.

Thanks bro. Yeah but still some phonegap plugins let you access hardware features like camera, device motion and orientation and others
Michael14:
Creating Web applications is ideal using phone gap, but I can't say the same about creating native applications that can grant access to hardware features... you'll need knowledge on core Java if you're gonna be building NATIVE apps. By the way, nice read man.

Business / What Is Missing Most From Nigerian Businesses? by jo101: 5:08am On Oct 23, 2015
It will be really amazing if you all agreed with me that most Nigerian business both online and physically are missing something. A key business component that only a few use to get ahead of others. I could give you a while to try to guess what that is but majority of your guys will not be able to guess what it is. It is online advertising most people see it as being very expensive and useless in Nigeria but this is actually not true at all. The amount of Nigerians on the internet today is really astonishing and is currently increasing. Internet may not be free yet but a lot of Nigerians are still taking advantage of the internet. As a business owner you can too. You don't have to own a multi million naira business to tap into the opportunities of the internet. I have once run a Facebook advert with just about ₦1,000 and it was quite successful...

Webmasters / How To Start Creating Apps As A Web Designer by jo101: 4:46am On Oct 23, 2015
Are you somewhat tired of learning many different programming languages to create different things? Have you decided to make the bold move from web designing to app development? You may think that you have to learn other differnt programming languages to be able to create apps but that is not the case Apache Cordova and PhoneGap help anyone with web language knowledge to develop an app. It is pretty simple the basic language you need to have knowledge of are html, css, and javascript. Yeah that is all. Maybe you may add a little of php for features like contact form and any type of form that needs sending. Basically what the cordova platform offers is a code base or platforms that can make apps that would run on numerous different mobile phone platforms(ios, android, webos, blackberry etc) without having to rewrite the code. The really nice thing about cordova and phonegap is that you can make apps that can access native app features with just html and css. Everyone knows that learning html and css is pretty easy and in no time you could become a phonegap app developer too. Some people may be asking in their minds how is this possible...

Programming / Start A Programming Career With The Help Of Facebook by jo101: 3:51am On Oct 22, 2015
Many people have dreamt of starting a programming career but were not able to because of the expenses and other circumstance that they may have met. Facebook launched a website called Tech/prep which could help you realise your dream of becoming a programmer. You can start by going to the website here techprep.fb.com. On the homepage you can see different videos and stories of people that have achieved their dreams and goals by using this new service. To get started using the service just click on get started at the top bar. On this new page there is an option to pick guardian if you are a parent and need resources to be able to teach or introduce your child to programming. There is also the option of picking "I am learning myself". I am going to start with "I am starting myself". I picked that and i got to a differnt page thats asked for my age. I picked 18-25+ and i was asked for my experience level. I picked expert(hacker for life) and i was asked my interests.

Business / Make Your Business Website Yourself. Here Is How by jo101: 3:09pm On Oct 21, 2015
The world is shifting towards technolgy and more businesses are trying to get on the internet. This may seem initially expensive for small business but there are simple ways out for those of you trying to cut cost while still trying to take your business to the next level. In the Nigeria the norm for most website developers is to use a content management system like wordpress or joomla for your website if you hire them. This is one reason why i will advice you to think about making your website by yourself most of these so called website developers may have only read about stuff like wordpress websites or joomla websites and without any training jump in and start a website designing company. It is really not hard to create websites especially with content management systems like wordpress and joomla. There are alot of themes out there both free and premium. All you actually need to do is upload the zip folder of the theme and make little simple customization with a simple editor and you are all good. You can actually do it yourself and I am going to teach you how.

What really are websites: A website is basically a collection of different files called webpages which are written in web programming language which can be static like html or dynamic like asp or php. When you open your web browser and type in a web address your web browser is actually making a request to the web server to have access to the website files basically.

So lets start off. Here are the things you will need:

*Web hosting: Good examples are bluehost.com, godaddy.com, ipage.com or there are indigenous Nigerian web hosts you can try like smartweb.com.ng I have tried them out before and they are good. If you just want to try this out you can you a free host like hostinger.in.
*Wordpress source files: You can download this at wordpress.org it is free don't worry
*Wordpress theme: There are both free and premium wordpress themes available all over the internet. You can get good wordpress theme from themeforest.net.
*Ftp software: like Filezilla or Cyberduck

Jobs/Vacancies / Good Business Ideas For Nigerians by jo101: 4:32am On Oct 21, 2015
Many people complain of how hard it is to think of and implement a good business idea in Nigeria. But really is that the case. There is a very large number of people who are unemployed and have little or nothing to do to make ends meet. But If you can think of a really good business idea then implementing it will not be hard. In my opinion and experience the only challenging part if thinking of the idea. There are many ideas implemented in other countries that can actually work in Nigeria. The following are so of the ideas I thought of that can be easily implemented in Nigeria and will yield some great profit:

Errand Service: This business idea basically involves you going on errand jobs for companies and businesses like delivery or pick up of letters and parcels. But basically you just go on errands for the businesses. This is a really good business idea knowing most business or rather small business don't have those departments so they will be willing to contract this out to someone. You can choose to charge monthly or weekly.
Day Care Service: This is a popular business idea but the fact is that most people neglect it or think of it as too much work. Taking care of children is actually work. But i have noticed that in most areas around businesses there are hardly any day care services there. This is a great opportunity for any hard working Nigerian to take advantage of.

Food Delivery Service: This is an idea most people reading this will readily accept. Nigerians love food and there is a business opportunity there. Yeah i know businesses have restaurants around them but you can save them the trouble of taking work excuses and leaving their desks and just delivery the food they want to them for just a little added amount.

Home and Office Cleaning Service: This business idea basically involves janitorial services for homes and offices. You can offer rug cleaning, window cleaning etc. You will be surprised how many people are too busy with work and other activities and do not have time to clean up their homes. Also some offices will be willing to contract the cleaning to you.

Home Delivery Service: So what i had in mind when i put this down was that imagine if you needed something like fuel or some food stuff and you are either are too lazy to drive down to get it or you are too busy. Imagine you have someone you could call that would just buy it up and will deliver it to your doorstep for you. So thats what this business idea is basically about delivery different stuff to people's doorsteps.

Jewelry Making: You must have heard of bead making this is basically it. It involves making little simple but beautiful male or female jewelry for sale.
