Health / Re: JOHESU- No Resumption Until FG Implement Our Demands by johnjames2009: 5:42pm On May 29, 2018 |
The ratio or relativity speak for themselves in saner climes. Figures are not forged here. Other health workers earning this or that is ambiguous. Compare the ratios of doctors earnings to that of a nurses'; doctors to pharmacist and get the picture clear. Argument does not solve these problems but facts. there is no need to insult anyone, it is unbecoming. I have gone to dig this out to educate myself and both parties. It is no good comparing a doctor's earnings to a lab technician's as the basis of widened disparity. Good day. constructive criticisms are most welcome.

once you are not a doctor, your thought become less pleomorphic and more pathologic whenever they are palpated. there is nothing bizarre about the purported ban. There are papillae of hospital components that need to be banned also to restore sanity. Making it monodermal is carcinomatous degeneration whose etiology may well be drawn from plexuses of hospital staff whose innervation is ophthalmologically drawn from protean pattern and abnormal anastomosis. or it may well be diversionary from FG point. to create phobia. but the cortical matter they are stimulating will see it to the end. everyone has right to his own opinion. welcome development though. The heart will do its part, the vessels will do their bit. |

blame game. the man of course was wrong. because death has occurred. an angry woman is like a wicked devil, don't argue with her, don't claim superiority over her, don't tell her I will beat u, say I'm sorry even if she was wrong, above all flee until the anger comes down. many chemicals in their body are inexplicable. to challenge them to fight is inviting trouble for yourself. she will welcome the challenge even if she will be maimed. some men are hot tempered and falls easily to this temptation. in their anger, just flee. it is not a shame, it is maturity. gently push her aside if she blocks your way and flee. after the inferno, you won't believe the same woman will be an angel. they are special being. men and women are not just the same and can never think or act alike. remember things began to change for Adam when eve appeared. God knows why. Respect women. find what they like and selectively do the good ones. be ready to explain why you cannot do the others. they can bring out the goodness or the monster in you. be prudent. may the soul of the departed rest |
Crime / Re: Husband Beats Wife To Death In Gboko, Benue State (Graphic Photos) by johnjames2009: 1:26pm On Aug 21, 2017 |
in as much as wife-beating is condemned, some women just desire it. if u say I will deal with u, who told u your opponent will be smiling when the deal begins. a woman requested cash from husband which he denied because it was not for important reason, to attend a party,. early in the morning, the woman blocked the husband and refused to let him go outside until he submit the cash. the man managed to escape. next day , the woman repeated the show now holding a knife. the man now know it is a matter of life and death, dashed around like a wounded lion, collect the knife from the wife and stabbed her so hard and she bled to death. everybody around came to feast on the man. it is easy and safe to remain on one side without asking the question what did she do. men should know, with little apology to women folk, that most women , whether she is a pastor or prophet or president, are naturally parrots and don't want to loose any case. the prudent needs wisdom to control it and avoid anger induced irreparable damage. may her soul rest in peace |

Politics / NMA Strike Suspended by johnjames2009: 7:04pm On Jan 05, 2014 |
Leave a Comment The Nigerian Medical Association on Sunday suspended its planned strike over alleged breach of agreement reached with the Federal Government especially on some health sector challenges, workplace conditions and the conditions of service of doctors. The association however said it would meet with President Goodluck Jonathan on February 7 2014 to reappraise the situation adding that it would resume the strike if nothing positive was done by government. The association was scheduled to commence the strike action on January 6. The President of the NMA, Dr. Osahon Enabulele who disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja directed health practitioners especially Doctors and Dental practitioners in government Hospitals nationwide to suspend withdrawal of services to pave way for the final resolution of the crises. According to him, the decision to suspend the action was in appreciation of the intervention of Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu; Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr. Emeka Nwogu and Nigerians. Politics / Another 18 Page Letter To Jonathan by johnjames2009: 3:05am On Dec 31, 2013 |
Dear Goodluck Jonathan on december 31, 2013 at 1:00 am in femi aribisala I have decided to write you this 18-page letter BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. If I don’t write it now, people may start considering you as a good president; forgetting that I am the only good president Nigeria has ever had. There is no one like me. As far as Nigeria is concerned, I am the Baba of the Babas. I am the president of the presidents. Before me, Nigeria had no president. After me, there will be no other president. I have had occasion in the past to warn you, especially when I nominated you as vice-president to Yar’Adua and then campaigned for you to be president, that under no circumstances should you outshine me. I did not put you there to do the things I could not do. Neither did I put you there to succeed where I failed. I put you there because my fourth-term agenda failed. Therefore, I needed someone to be a figure-head, while I continue to rule from behind the scene. But since you became president, you have not been following my orders. I have warned you again and again to desist from this abuse of the authority I gave you. But you have refused to listen. So you now think you are actually the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I still de laugh! You are not the president. I am the president. If you continue to disobey me, and to promulgate policies that put me in a bad light when compared to you, I will see to it that you don’t even complete your first-term, how much more have a second- term. I am already in discussions with the APC to see if we can have you impeached. Did you not read in the papers that APC leaders came to my house the other day? When they were here, we all ate pounded yam with egusi soup. Even Buhari had a second helping and asked for the recipe. You better read the writing on the wall. I notice you have quickly returned the missing 49 billion dollars after I brought the matter to the notice of fellow Nigerians; but that won’t help you. I will have you know that we are already training 1000 snipers who will puncture all the tyres of your supporters. Therefore, if you know what is good for you, you better start acting as the puppet president I put you there to be. How dare you, Goodluck? How dare you build almajiri schools in the North? Why didn’t you suggest that to me while I was in office? How dare you address the NEPA problem when I could not? What exactly are you trying to prove? You think you are better than me? Don’t you know that you would have remained a striking university lecturer if it had not been for me? How dare you appoint a competent man to be Minister of Agriculture? Now the man is going around getting awards for his policies. Which policies? I am the one who revolutionized the agric sector in Nigeria. When I became president, I had only one farm. By the time I left office, I had over six farms in different parts of the country. Is that not progress? How many farms do you have? You can never be better than me. The corruption in my government was far more than yours. You have nothing to compare with my infamous Siemens and Haliburton scandals. You don’t even have the gumption to buy a Toyota Land Cruiser for your mistress. Chinua Achebe said, “One of the truest test of integrity is its blunt refusal to be compromised.” You will soon find that this statement cannot be applied to me. I am above it. How dare you release AlMustapha from prison after 14 years when you know I want him to stay there for the rest of his natural life? I give you my word; you are going to regret that decision. How dare you convene a national conference when I specifically refused to do so? Are you trying to make me look bad? Did you even get my approval before agreeing to it? You are a very disrespectful man. Do you think that you, a minority nonentity from the South-South, could have risen to be President of the country had it not been for me? Have you forgotten so soon, the extent I went in order to ensure that you are where you are today? There was only bad luck in Nigeria until I, in my infinite wisdom, bequeathed good luck on the country. You ungrateful man! If you don’t stop all these irritating policies, I will declare a national state of emergency. Nonsense! You are supposed to obey your elders. Henceforth, Goodluck Jonathan, you must obey me. Otherwise, I will show you pepper. I will pour sand into your gari. I will put tea in your coffee. You can no longer be trusted; that is why you will only get a second-term over my dead body. I need to get someone in Aso Rock who will do what I say. I already have your replacement in mind. I don’t intend to make the same mistake three times. I will take him to a shrine under Olumo Rock to swear an iron-clad oath to do whatever I say. Any flagrant disregard of my authority, and he will not be able to speak English and Hausa again. People close to you, if not you yourself, have been asking: “What does Baba want?” What a stupid question. I want to be president of Nigeria again! I want to be president! Half a dozen African presidents have spoken to me and assured me that I am the only president they recognize in Nigeria. Half a dozen of them said their only wish for Nigeria is that I should return to Aso Rock. Of course, yes. Mugabe is still there. Why not me? It is not my will but providence has determined that the presidency is my birthright. I fought for this country. Single-handed, I kept Nigeria together during the civil-war. You cannot sideline me. I put you there: I can remove you. I made you: I can unmake you. You are not the Messiah of Nigeria. I am the Messiah. Don’t you forget it! I want nothing personally from you but that you obey me at all times. When I changed the constitution of our great party, I made sure I would continue to control things by inserting a clause which guaranteed that I am the only one qualified to be the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. But as chairman, I was not given the recognition I deserve as the father of the party. Therefore, I tendered my resignation. Imagine my surprise when you had the audacity to accept it. You are such an impudent man. If you knew your place, you would have recognized that my resignation was just a protest. You were supposed to send the elders of the party to beg me to stay on; a plea I would have graciously accepted. But like the ungrateful son that you are, you accepted my resignation. And now, you have Tony Anenih occupying a post that rightfully belongs to me. Your unlimited ambition became clear to me when the National Chairman of the party said he never does anything without your approval. So you now see yourself as the Leader of the party. Never! See where it has got you now. A number of governors have resigned from the party and taken APC. If you don’t behave, another set will resign and take aspirin. The PDP has lost its majority in the House. There is talk of impeachment; and you are no longer sleeping at night. It serves you right. I fully intend to teach you a lesson you will never forget. By the time I have finished with you, you will run out of the country and seek political asylum in Equatorial Guinea. It is not surprising that you have not been able to eradicate the scourge of Boko Haram from Nigeria. You don’t have military experience like I have. Under my watch, Bola Ige, Marshal Harry and others were surgically removed from the scene. Similarly, I would have finished Boko Haram within three months. I understand the violence. I am fully cognizant of the root, stem and branches of the underlying causes. But I will not share any of this with you as long as you refuse to make an unequivocal statement that you will not pursue a second-term. Unlike you, as president of our great country, I was dynamic and resourceful. I exterminated trouble-makers from Odi and Zaki Biam. I spent $16 billion dollars restoring NEPA to its enviable heights. I committed 300 billion naira rebuilding all the federal highways in the East alone. I restored the country’s refineries. I raised the price of petrol several times. I rigged the most amazing election in the history of the country. I conducted the first widely- accepted national census. I could go on and on but my secretary has to go home. In short, I was the great president you can never be. So if you think a neophyte like you can compete with me; think again! Stop taking me for granted. You don’t want to be in my bad books. I don’t forgive my enemies. You will regret this for the rest of your life. I will show you how much of a nuisance I can be. I will embarrass you everywhere. I will tell as many lies about you as I can. I will write public letters to you every week. I will copy the next one to the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Never you forget: I dey kampe! Accept, ungrateful Mr. President, the assurances of my highest disapproval. Baba the Baba. P.S. I shall be sharing the contents of this letter with all the newspaper houses in Nigeria and Ghana. I will also be copying my very good friend Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. By Femi A.. www.vanguardngr.com |

Jonathan drags Obasanjo to rights commission over criminal allegations President Jonathan Goodluck yesterday submitted himself to the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, for probe over criminal allegations against him by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Former President Obasanjo had written an 18-page open letter to Jonathan, accusing him of incompetence, engaging in anti- party activities, ethnicism and training about 1,000 snipers ahead of the 2015 polls. Jonathan, who denied the allegations in his response, is specifically inviting the rights commission to unravel the truth in the allegation that his government had begun training over 1,000 snipers to terminate his political opponents. In a letter to the commission, President Jonathan is seeking for a thorough investigation of the allegations against him, touching on alleged human rights abuses. The letter, signed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, SAN, on the directive of Jonathan, had already been submitted to NHRC. The letter dated December 23, 2013 was submitted yesterday. Sources close to the Presidency said that similar letters had been written to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The two anti-graft agencies are to probe allegations of economic crimes and official corruption against the Jonathan’s administration as contained in Obasanjo’s letter. www.vanguardngr.com |
Sports / The Stage Is Set For Glo CAF Award- Top Ten Nominees Profile by johnjames2009: 1:14am On Dec 23, 2013 |
Following the release by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of the list of Top 10 African players who are in contention for the 2013 African Footballer of the Year Award, football pundits have been making various permutations on who the likely winner will be. Expectations are high on who should be the next King of African football with different analysts around and beyond the continent advancing varied justifications for their preferred candidate. Who deserves to wear the crown? Will it be John Mikel Obi or the reigning African Footballer of the Year Yaya Toure? Or will it be Asamoah Gyan or Didier Drogba? Who out of the ten will be unveiled as the king of the continent’s football at the 2013 Glo CAF Awards Gala Night holding at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos on 9 January, 2014. We hereby present the top 10 as released by CAF. Who really are the top ten? Vincent Enyeama Record-breaking Nigerian goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama can easily be dubbed the shot-stopper. He was born on August 29, 1982 and currently plays for Lille FC in France. The achievement of Nigeria in football in the last decade cannot be complete without mentioning the name of Enyeama. He was named the safest pair of hands as Nigeria won the continental crown in South Africa earlier in the year. He also made a name for himself with Lille in the French Ligue 1 where they nick-named him “Jesus in goal” as he did not concede any goal from September 15 to December 7; maintaining an eye-popping 11 clean sheets from 16 games and 1035 minutes in total. John Mikel Obi Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder, John Obi Mikel was born on April 22, 1987. Mikel is enjoying probably his best moment in football. A regular with the star-studded Chelsea, he played an influential role in the build-up to the 2012 UEFA Champions League crown. He also won the Europa Cup with Chelsea in 2013. Also, he netted a cracker against Uruguay at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil in July. His efforts in the season were crowned with a gold medal with the Super Eagles at the last Africa Cup of Nations. He was also instrumental to Nigeria’s qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Indeed, football analysts say that it is only the current African Player of the Year Yaya Toure that can stand between Mikel and the crown. Didier Drogba Born in Cote d’Ivoire on March 11, 1978, Didier Drogba plies his trade in Turkey where he plays for Galatasaray. He earlier played for Olympic Marseilles in France and Chelsea FC of London where he won the Champions League in 2012. At 35, Drogba is yet to lose his football skills, scoring three goals as the Elephants reached a third successive World Cup appearance. The striker has bounced back from a disappointing spell in China and has been banging in the goals in Turkey. He scored five in 13 appearances during Galatasaray’s triumph in the 2012-13 season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is currently playing for Borussia Dortmund in Germany. He was born on June 18, 1989. He was on target three times for Gabon (a hat- trick against Niger) during the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as Les Panthers failed to reach the playoffs. He has however been in superb form at club level. He emerged second top scorer in Ligue 1 with 19 goals during the 2012-13 season, and also guided Saint Etienne to the Coupe de La Ligue (French League Cup). In July, he joined German side Borussia Dortmund and has scored eight times in all appearances. Ahmed Musa Ahmed Musa, born on 14 October 1992 in Jos, is a Nigerian player who plays as forward for Russian club CSKA Moscow. Musa was one of the four nominees named for the Confederation of African Football Most Promising Talent Award in 2011. However the award went to Souleymane Coulibaly. After an impressive outing at the Africa Nations Cup in South Africa, Musa also helped Nigeria to book a place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Emmanuel Emenike Nigerian Emmanuel Emenike plays for Fenerbahce in Turkey. He was born on 10th May, 1987. He recently played for Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine before exploring his fortune in Fenerbahce. Emenike is currently Nigeria’s most reliable attacker. He scored four goals at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa where the Super Eagles emerged champions. He also has helped Nigeria to book a place in next year’s World Cup, scoring thrice in the process. Jonathan Pitroipa Burkina Faso-born Jonathan Pitroipa is a regular member of Stade Rennes FC of France. He was the star of the Burkina Faso team that reached the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. He was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. He also scored three times in Burkina Faso’s run to the World Cup playoffs and has made 10 appearances in the current season for Stade Rennes but yet to score. Asamoah Gyan Asamoah Gyan, born 22 November 1985 in Accra, is a Ghanaian footballer who plays as a striker for Al Ain of the UAE Pro-League. Gyan represented Ghana at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups, scoring three goals at the latter, and also missing a crucial penalty kick in the last minute of extra-time in a quarter-final defeat by Uruguay. Despite Ghana’s fourth place at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, Gyan made the championship’s Best XI and he is the all-time top scorer for Ghana. Mohammed Aboutreika One outstanding accomplishment of ageless Mohamed Aboutreika is that he is gunning for both the global African Player of the Year and the African- Based African Player of the Year Awards. He plays in Africa and has led his club to win many continental laurels. He was born in Egypt in November 7, 1978 and plays for Egyptian top club, Al Ahly. Aboutreika is at the twilight of his career, yet, he has proved again that he is nowhere near the finish line. With Ahly, he was the pivot as the Egyptian giants retained the CAF Champions League title, scoring in both legs in the final. He scored five times in the campaign as Ahly cruised to an unprecedented eighth title despite the absence of a football competition in Egypt in two years. Yaya Toure Reigning African Player of the Year Yaya Toure is from Cote d’Ivoire. He was born on May 13, 1983. The Manchester City of England player won the last two editions of the African Player of the Year Award and he is still at his peak. He scored two goals including a spectacular free-kick against Tunisia at the group stage of the last Africa Cup of Nations. Thoughthe Elephants failed to go past the quarter final, he was the pillar of the Ivorian team in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, netting four goals in the process. At Manchester City, he is a cult figure and has been the driving force for the club. For the current 2013-14 season, the midfielder has found the back of the net five times in 11 games. |
Sports / Mourinho Cannot Win Me Again - Arsene Wenger by johnjames2009: 1:04am On Dec 23, 2013 |
Arsène Wenger senses now is the time to defeat José Mourinho's Chelsea • Arsenal have never beaten Chelsea under Mourinho • 'For a while, Chelsea were stronger' Wenger admits Sunday 22 December 2013 23.00 GMT Arsenal could return to the top of the table with a win against Chelsea on Monday but defeat would see to fourth. Arsène Wenger was keeping his cards close to his chest. He had just been asked whether this Chelsea side is the most vulnerable in the Roman Abramovich era, giving him the perfect opportunity to indulge in a spot of mind games, but he refused to bite, choosing to put the poker face on instead. "I will answer that question on Tuesday," he said, by which time Arsenal hope to have secured the victory they need over Chelsea to return to the top of the league. Yet that will be no mean feat given Chelsea's psychological hold over Arsenal in recent years, not to mention the fact that Wenger is yet to find a way of getting the better of José Mourinho, losing five and drawing four of their nine matches. Wenger says this match is not about him versus Mourinho, and believes there is no need for him to try to outwit the master schemer by altering his strategy in order to succeed at the 10th time of asking, at the Emirates on Monday night, but it is a statistic that is impossible to ignore. "Sometimes they have equalised in the last minute at Chelsea and that's not down to a gameplan," Wenger said. "That just reflects the strengths of the teams. I must say for a while Chelsea were stronger than us. You do not have to accept it but it was the reality." Reality did bite for Arsenal. Since Mourinho arrived at Stamford Bridge for his first spell in 2004, they have won three of their 22 matches in all competitions against Chelsea. Their rivalry has been based on a clash of philosophies, Arsenal's brilliant but doomed fragility at odds with Chelsea's win-at-all-costs attitude. More often than not, it has been a case of men against boys, Chelsea's giants towering over Arsenal and ruthlessly taking advantage of their lapses in concentration. Arsenal won plaudits, Chelsea won trophies. Arsenal, though, sense that this is their time, not least because Didier Drogba, so often their tormentor in the past, is no longer around to batter a defence that is likely to be missing the injured Laurent Koscielny. Although they come into this match having lost 6-3 at Manchester City, they have felt like a different side this season, more mature and less likely to crumble at the first sign of trouble. Arsenal work harder as a unit and have developed a resilience that allows them to win without playing well. In the past, Arsenal have been viewed as a soft touch but the addition of Mathieu Flamini has added steel to their midfield, providing the platform for Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Özil to shine. Where once they were easy to bully into submission, now Arsenal will be confident of imposing their passing game on a Chelsea midfield which appears ill-equipped to stop them from bending the game to their will. This is not a classic Mourinho team. His options in midfield – Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Mikel John Obi and Ramires – are underwhelming, lacking the power to dominate teams and the creativity to control matches, and failing to protect a creaking defence. Chelsea, knocked out of the League Cup by Sunderland last week, seem to have lost the ability to grind. When Mourinho first won the title with Chelsea in 2005 they conceded 15 goals and recorded 11 victories of 1-0. They have already conceded 18 this season, including 10 in their past five matches. The game has changed, though. The top sides are less defensive than they were eight years ago and there is a greater emphasis on attacking. "The offensive potential is very big and the structure of the teams is more offensive," Wenger said. Perhaps Mourinho is still adapting, seemingly caught halfway between constructing a defensively responsible team and delivering the attractive style that Abramovich craves. The Portuguese has the players to pull off the latter but has rarely appeared comfortable with the idea of letting the likes of Eden Hazard and Juan Mata off the leash. Yet it would be ridiculous to write off Chelsea. For all the noises they have made about this being a season of transition– and it is doubtful whether Mourinho knows the meaning of the word – they have won their past three matches against Arsenal and on each of their past two trips to the Emirates. Victory on Monday night will lift them up to second, behind Liverpool on goal difference, and leave Arsenal in fourth place. While Wenger might have kept his thoughts to himself, he will know his team cannot be so reluctant to express themselves. www.theguardian.com |

Celebrities / Heroism Embodied In A Policeman. Dying For Others by johnjames2009: 12:47pm On Dec 20, 2013 |
policeman threw himself on a suicide bomber on Wednesday, just as the man made moves to detonate his device. The 34 year old policeman was attempting to shield dozens of Shiite pilgrims from the deadly blast, which took five lives. Follow RT’s timeline of Iraq violence in 2013 Hundreds of thousands of Shiite pilgrims are journeying to Karbala, south west of Baghdad, to commemorate Imam Hussein, the Prophet Mohammed’s grandson. The 40-day observance has become a common target for acts of terror. One particular group of pilgrims was making its way from Khales, north east of the capital, when the suicide bomber targeted them. Anticipating a devastating tragedy, 34- year-old policeman, Ayyub Khalaf, threw himself on to the assailant, catching him in a tight embrace, and shielding the pilgrims from the full impact of the blast. Khalaf was one of the five who died as the explosion ripped through the bystanders. “Ayyub was martyred while defending pilgrims, and his name will be an eternal symbol because he saved the lives of dozens of innocents,” Khalaf’s friend, Saad Naim told AFP, adding that Khalaf himself was married with two children. “We will take revenge on the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization,” he stated, though Al-Qaeda, or any other group, has not claimed responsibility for the Wednesday attack. Over 30 pilgrims dead as violence spills over into Thursday Casualties from Wednesday’s assault were fewer given the self-sacrifice. On Thursday, however, at least 36 pilgrims were killed in three separate suicide bomb attacks. One suicide bomber targeted a funeral tent, killing 16 and wounding a further 31 in southern Baghdad's mainly Sunni neighborhood of Doura. Nine others were killed near Latifiya, due south of Doura, after a similar attack on a cluster of Shiite pilgrims traveling from the north. Eleven were killed inside Latifiya itself, according to Reuters. Over 8,000 people have died in Iraq this year, in project Iraq Body Count’s estimates – making it the bloodiest year for the country since 2008. In November alone, 948 people were killed as a result of violence in the country. The government places most blame with groups linked to the Iraqi wing of Al-Qaeda. The civil war in neighboring Syria may have also contributed to the violence, as Sunni rebels are acting against a government allied to Shiite Iran. Politics / Obasanjo/gej Face-off. A Must Read by johnjames2009: 1:03am On Dec 20, 2013 |
Obasanjo/Jonathan face- off (1) on december 20, 2013 at 12:47 am in news By Ebele Orakpo “Aha, this is more like it! I like this photo of GEJ. For once, let him be serious, no smiling,” said a commuter, by name Akan, in the Oshodi-bound bus as he displayed a photo of President Jonathan in a national daily for all to see. “Water don pass garri nah! The allegations by Obj are weighty so the almost permanent smile has to disappear,” said Charity. “Our leaders are taking us for granted. They see us as a bunch of nonentities so they can do whatever they like and get away with it because we are so passive,” stated Chris. “But what is Obasanjo’s problem? Is he the only ex-president in Nigeria?” asked George. “Everyone else is a criminal, weak, incompetent, except him. How conceited can one get?” Replied Akan: “He is Nigeria’s messiah, period! He alone knows the problems of Nigeria and how to solve them. He thinks he loves Nigeria more than the rest of us.” “I think it’s the case of a relationship gone sour. After all, GEJ was his anointed son. He thought he would be very easy to control, you know, pliable and malleable. Unfortunately, the man with the quiet mien has become his greatest nightmare,” noted Charity. “What are you guys talking about? Why can’t we for once be objective and put sentiments aside? Are the issues Obj raised true or false? They should be addressed by those concerned,” said Ben. Continuing he said: “Like him or hate him; there is no doubt he loves Nigeria passionately and will do anything to keep it together.” “Oh sure! Like the third term bid and all the Ghana-Must-Go that changed hands?” asked Chris tongue-in-cheek. “I think the onus is on the accuser to prove his allegations and stop beating about the bush.” Stated Edith: “In all honesty, I don’t think Obj has the moral right to point accusing fingers at GEJ. After all, he did same if not worse things. Kettle calling the pot black. Don’t forget he was president and petroleum minister throughout his tenure. Did he account for all the money? Please give me a break! For sure, no leader ever gets it right as far as Saint Obasanjo is concerned.” Replied Ben: “Whether he has the moral right or not is immaterial here. It takes courage for a morally bankrupt person to condemn immorality. So we should be praising Obj instead of upbraiding him. Take the message and leave the messenger.” Said George: “We should all shine our eyes oo. I can smell a rat in all these. First it was Tambuwal, then Lamido and now Obj, all attacking the GEJ administration. Lamido said he reported the case of a $250 million bribe to the president and he did nothing. Is Jonathan the EFCC? If you have such evidence or knowledge, go to EFCC. I wouldn’t be surprised if the military stages a comeback. Let’s all watch and see.” “God forbid! Military regime as in Abacha days? That will spell doom for Nigeria and these politicians who do not want to get their act together, they will all end behind bars for good,” said Charity. www.vanguardngr.com

Health / Malaria Resistance Again? Even With Amatem Or Coartem? God Save Us From Malaria by johnjames2009: 12:50am On Dec 20, 2013 |
An international team has found a genetic marker for the malaria-causing parasites that are resistant to artemisinin, an important drug for treating the mosquito-borne disease. Among the researchers, who report their findings in a recent online issue of Nature , is a team from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the US National Institutes of Health. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 627,000 people died of malaria in 2012. Artemisinin, combined with other drugs, is an important first line of defense against malaria. However, in recent years, development of artemisinin resistance in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum in southeast Asia poses a real threat to global malaria control and elimination. Thus, researchers are racing to find ways to keep the drug's effectiveness. One important factor in the race is keeping track of the spread of artemisinin resistance. Mutant K 13- propeller gene For their study, the team sequenced the genetic information of a lab-generated strain of artemisinin-resistant P. falciparum , and also of two natural strains found in the wild in Cambodia - one drug- resistant and the other not. By comparing the genetic information from these three strains, they hoped to pinpoint the genetic marker of drug resistance. And so they did. They found that P. falciparum carrying a mutant version of the K13-propeller gene was more likely to survive exposure to artemisinin in the lab. Plus they found, in malaria patients treated with artemisinin, parasites carrying this particular genetic mutation took longer to eliminate. And when they analyzed the geographical distribution of the K13-propeller mutated gene in parasites in western Cambodia, they found it matched the distribution of resistance among malaria patients in the same regions. Taking these results together, the team concludes that the mutant K13-propeller gene is closely tied to artemisinin resistance and is likely to be a good molecular marker for it. They say further research is now needed to find out how this mutation causes resistance and the extent to which it affects other geographical areas. In another study reported earlier this year in the The Lancet Infectious Diseases , another group of scientists describe how they developed a rapid, simple way of testing for artemisinin resistance in a lethal form of malaria. Sports / Super Eagles Choose Victoria Hotel As Base Ahead Of Brazil 2014 by johnjames2009: 12:38am On Dec 20, 2013 |
Super Eagles choose Vitoria Hotel as Base Camp The Super eagles have chosen Vitoria Hotel Concept Campinas as their Team Base Camp Hotel at the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced. According to a release by the NFF, Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, NFF’s Director of Marketing, Adama Idris, Assistant Director (Media), Mr. Ademola Olajire and Eagles’ Team Administrator, Enebi Achor inspected the exquisite facility the day after the final draw of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Costa do Sauipe, off Salvador. Located in Campinas, a dainty city 70 minutes’ drive from the Sao Paulo International Airport, Vitoria Hotel Concept Campinas is an ideal facility that will truly help the Super Eagles concentrate on the business of aiming for a major impact at the FIFA World Cup finals, Keshi said. “I love this place. It is good for our team and we will be able to achieve full concentration,” Keshi said as he looked over the hotel and afterwards, checked out the training site on Saturday, December 7. Keshi added: “It is also good that there is an airport in Campinas that serves domestic flights, so we don’t have to travel to Sao Paulo to fly to our different venues.” The Team Base Camp Hotel is usually the base of every team at the FIFA World Cup finals, from where it travels to venues to honour its fixtures, during which it stays at Venue-Specific Team Hotel. The African champions will be based in Campinas and travel to Curitiba to play Iran, to Cuiaba to play Bosnia-Herzegovina and to Porto Alegre to play Argentina. Only Cuiaba is more than an hour’s flight from Campinas. The earlier, the better what do you think? www.ngrguardiannews.com |
