A man’s semen has been found to contain only his donor’s DNA after bone marrow transplant. Chris Long is an IT worker in the washoe county sheriff’s department in Reno, Nevada USA. Interestingly, he’s never met his German donor except for a few exchanged phone messages. His doctor had found his donor on a donor website. Within four months after the operation, tests showed that the DNA in his blood had been replaced with his donor’s. Swab collected from his lips, cheeks and tongue also contained his donor’s DNA. Of all the samples collected, only his chest and head hairs were unaffected. Mr Long's case raises several questions like; what happens if he has a baby? Would he pass his own genes or his donor’s to his future off springs? "When we talk about about factors impeding the practice of medical laboratory science in Nigeria, the culture of learned colleagues in the health sector enabling quackery cannot be over emphasized. I will illustrate with a story." Mr David (B.MLS) recalls how during his time as a youth corper, a consultant surgeon asked the head of the laboratory unit, to take on his (the surgeon's) relative on apprentice training to become a medical laboratory scientist. At the link, read the story and the comedic but effective way his boss handled the situation. https://www.twcreport.com/2019/07/15/in-conversation-with-joseph-salifu-david/

"Ever wondered how Canada, with a population 5times lower than Nigeria ,has been absorbing our medical doctors? In canada, 1 doctor is likely to attend to 600 patients, while in Nigeria 1 doctor is likely to attend to 6000 patients. Our conversation with Dr Felix B. Roland was thought provoking and filled with practical solutions to get our health system out of its state of quagmire. It is the year 2019, still Nigeria cannot boast of any medical equipment or technology that is being manufactured on its shores. Billions of naira are lost in revenue flight to manufacturing countries. China remains the dominant off shore supplier. This is shocking for a country with many brilliant minds. It is even more so, when you think that we don't even need to necessarily bother about fresh innovations. We could simply take ideas from those ahead of us and manufacture our own copies of these medical equipments. Dr Bioku is one of such brilliant minds. Read more of his inspiring story of innovation https://www.twcreport.com/2019/07/23/in-conversation-with-bioku-muftau-on-the-underdevelopment-of-medical-technology-in-nigeria/
