Infertility And Other Health Challenges

A recent study of over 9,000 infertile men by the Stanford University School
of Medicine to evaluate the cause of their fertility problems started
routinely enough, but surprisingly even shockingly — the study concluded
with the findings that poor Fluid quality can also be related to a
whole host of other health issues that, at least superficially, don’t
make a lot of sense.

“About 15% of all couples have fertility issues, and in half of those cases the
male partner has Fluid deficiencies,” stated the study's lead author, Michael
Eisenberg, MD, assistant professor of urology and director of male reproductive
medicine and surgery at Stanford. “We should be paying more attention to
these millions of men. Infertility is a warning: Problems with reproduction
may mean problems with overall health.”

Those “problems with overall health” include more generalized conditions
such as skin and endocrine disorders, as well as the really nasty stuff
like hypertension, which is already an unwelcome affliction where your
joystick is concerned (it can impact erectile fortitude).

This, combined with the fact Eisenberg previously co-authored a similar study
that found infertile men had higher rates of mortality (and specifically
mortality linked to heart problems), might have you thinking: I don’t have
to worry about this.

“Here, we're already spotting signs of trouble in young men in their 30s,”
Eisenberg clarified.

Eisenberg and his crew at Stanmore went on to analyze the medical
records of their 9,387 respondents, who were mostly between the ages of
30 and 50 with a median age of 38. Their routinely provided Fluid was
assessed with little score cards* (*that’s a lie) for volume, concentration,
and motility, which means “the ability of sperm to move properly through the female
reproductive tract”. In roughly half of male infertility cases, the problem was
just that: The Fluid wasn’t quite right for whatever reason.

In the other half, however, there were consistent problems elsewhere. Using
their extensive database, the research team drew the links pretty quickly —
most notably that in 44% of cases, poor Fluid quality went hand-in-hand
with hypertension, vascular disease, and heart disease.

“A man's health is strongly correlated with his Fluid quality,” Eisenberg asserted.
“Given the high incidence of infertility, we need to take a broader view. As we treat
men's infertility, we should also assess their overall health. That visit to a
fertility clinic represents a big opportunity to improve their treatment for other conditions,
which we now suspect could actually help resolve the infertility they came in for in
the first place.”

Poor Fluid production can interfere with a couple’s ability to conceive, but new
research from Stanford suggests it also may be connected to a variety of health
problems unrelated to fertility, including high blood pressure and other harbingers
of heart disease.

A study of more than 9,000 men who sought help for infertility found that those with
low sperm counts, poor sperm motility and other impaired Fluid production were at
greater risk of having certain heart and vascular problems, plus skin diseases and
disorders relating to the endocrine system. In fact, the more defects in the men’s Fluid,
the more likely they were to have other health problems.

The research, which was published online Wednesday in the journal Fertility and
Sterility, supports and refines earlier studies that found an increased risk of
cancer and of early death in men with poor Fluid production. Taken together,
the studies suggest that fertility is closely tied to overall health in men.

“We found a lot of correlations between Fluid production and medical conditions
that we never knew about,” said Dr. Michael Eisenberg, director of male
reproductive medicine and surgery at Stanford and lead author of the paper.
“It’s a relationship that men and their doctors should appreciate. If there’s
some problem with reproductive fitness it may be there’s an overall problem
in fitness as well.”

Five (5) Key Signs You Are Eating Right

1. You Sleep Well At Night
A lot of things, including diet can keep you awake or make you have sleeps in which you wake up frequently. When you have these kind of nights, you wake up tired in the morning.

When you don’t sleep well at night, a lot of things can cause this but a good way to start checking is your diet. What kind of food do you eat in the day and towards bedtime? What is the space between the time you eat and time you go to bed? These are good questions to ask?


2. On Top Of Your Game All Day
Eating right gives you energy and makes you stay mentally active all-day. This is a fact and I have found this to be true by observing myself and other people in my workplace too. It is one of the reasons you should not miss your breakfast ever again.

You have enough energy throughout the day if your diet is fulfilling your needs and work requirements. Too much coffee consumption too can be implicated in this as you can have a crash or breakdown of energy towards the middle of or later on the day.

3. You go to the toilet everyday
Not literally as stated in the title because people go to the toilet to smoke sometimes. Going to the toilet here means you actually go to the toilet to do what the toilet is designed for.

This is a very good sign you are eating right and including the right amount of fibers in your diet, they turn your bowel often and make you go do the dump. Constipation is a sign you are not eating right. Therefore, when you go to the toilet every day, it is a sign that you are eating right.

4. You Don’t Have Mood Swings
Yes, when you have even mood, then you can be sure you are eating right. Although, mood swings can be caused by other factors, when you have even mood, you are eating right.

Having said this, when you have mood swings or anxiety and have eliminated other possibilities, or starting to check what the possibilities are, you may want to check your diet. Too much of foods such as sugar, alcohol, caffeinated coffee, etc., can cause mood swings and anxiety. This is one of the reasons we included it in the list of foods you should avoid during exam period.

5. Always Well Hydrated (No Episodes of Dehydration)
Dehydration usually results from drinking too little water in a day, thereby causing thirst, dry lips, and dry skin. Other factors that could result in dehydration include drinking too much caffeine and alcohol. Totally avoiding them is what I usually advise.

You are not eating right if you eat at restaurants and eateries. These foods have been implicated in a lot of conditions and food poisoning cases. Cooking at home will not only give you quality and safe food but also saves you more money.

There are some other factors or signs that you can actually look out for in order to know if you are eating right, these are just some of the ones you can easily notice.
