Celebrities / Heartstrings - Episode 1 by Kakakino(m): 1:32pm On Jul 17, 2017
The blue sky was clear, cloudless, not entirely, an after effect of the rainstorm early that morning. Cool icy wind blew, hitting the skin with a firm grip. The street was empty. Different colours of houses lined both sides of the road. Some were decorated with palm trees, variety of flowers, plants, while others stood out with artworks on the walls and sculptures. He stopped the car outside the white house with a big black gate and honked thrice. He heard the sound of metal. The security guard in green and white uniform poked his head out. He was a short man in his mid-forties. He retreated into the compound and opened the gate.

“Good morning sir,” the man stood aside and waved.

He waved back in acknowledgement and drove in. He parked the silver Prado jeep alongside three other cars and killed the engine. He picked the black polythene bag on the front seat and alighted from the vehicle. He closed the door and locked it. He sneezed thrice and thought of a hot bath. It would chase the cold away he reasoned. He turned around and headed for the one storey building. A tall slim figure raced out of the ground floor flat towards him.

“Uncle Bassey, Uncle Bassey, welcome…” she tried to collect the bag in his hand, but he wouldn’t let go.

“You can’t carry it. It is heavy. Thank you,” he tried to smile.

“Where did you go this morning? You left while it was raining.”

He kept on walking. Was she monitoring him?

“Did you go to work? I thought you hardly go to work on Saturdays, except when there is an emergency.”

He glanced at her. When did she start to keep tabs on him? Wasn’t she too young to be nosy? The dark skinned eighteen year old girl towered over him with an inch. Her slim frame looked athletic in the blue jeans and red short-sleeve blouse.

“Uncle Bassey, I think I will study Dentistry like you. You make a lot of money. You drive a very expensive car, you are living in a three bedroom posh apartment in Ikeja G.R.A, and you run your own dental clinic. How old are you? You are a rich young man.”

What in the world!

Celebrities / Lady Calls Her Boyfriend A Nobody Because Tekno Did This [photo by Kakakino(m): 4:52pm On Jul 13, 2017
Funny what a picture can cause. Nigerian singer, Tekno recently shared a picture of him and his girlfriend Lola Rae on Instagram.

While many liked the picture and dropped congratulatory comments, I couldn’t help but notice a lady going hard on her boyfriend.

Literature / Impossible To Love - Episode 6 by Kakakino(m): 10:27am On Jul 13, 2017
I need a plan. I definitely need one. The thing is when I told King to come home, I did it merely on instinct. The need to further protect what I had. The more I thought about it though, I realized I never really had it anyway. The marriage was doomed from the start and I did not really understand my need to save it. Okay now that I'm thinking about it, maybe getting a divorce is not so bad after all. People will gossip for a while and eventually move on to other juicy stories. The last time I felt loved by my so called husband was during our honeymoon. I have been lied to, deceived, raped, wrongly accused and insulted. I really do not see any dramatic change that will suddenly make King and I live happily ever after. I have lived in this illusion long enough and I might as well cut off this so called marriage tie before it drags on longer than this. That was exactly my state of mind when King walked in that Wednesday afternoon.
I was just resting on the sofa watching my favorite television series. I was actually in an excited mood, laughing heartily while watching. I heard the knock on the door and I was still laughing when I opened the door,

"King!'' I exclaimed, quite surprised actually even though I knew he was coming. I just stood there mouth agape.

''Are you going to allow me into the house?''

Not realizing I was blocking the entrance, I quickly stepped aside as he walked in and I shut the door. He sauntered into the house looking round like the house was now beneath him. I couldn't ignore the arrogant vibes and I really did not see the possibility of me standing this whole attitude for the next four days but for now, I could bottle all my feelings. I walked up to him and gave him the hug of a lifetime.

''I missed you baby'', I said. I was quite shocked when he hugged me back. It was like all our problems had melted away and I actually felt mushy all over.He pulled me tighter when I tried to pull away but few seconds later, he finally let me go. “Is there food to eat in this house?’’ “Yes I actually made some soup so let me just make you something to eat with it.” I quickly walked into the kitchen; I needed to gather my thoughts on what next to do so I needed the distance. About an hour later when King was getting up from the dining table, my parents arrived. I was definitely bewildered that both of them will visit me at this time of the day. There was no doubt in my mind that my mum had told dad all about my problems. After declining food, explaining that they just had lunch, dad asked us to sit down that he wanted to discuss with us. I was quite worried that King will think I planned this whole meeting. My worries were put at bay however when my dad mentioned that King had initiated the meeting. My dad started,

“Son, to be candid, I was quite surprised that you called us to your house. I expected you to have the decency to come to my home if you wanted to talk to me. I obliged only because I have recently been made aware of the sensitivity of your marriage and I don’t want to fuel things.’’
“I apologize for not coming sir, sincerely, I did not think it through’’, he said.
“Kingsley, you don’t seem to be thinking a lot of things through. The guts you have to treat my daughter like dirt after lying to us and deceiving us into giving you her hand?’’ My mum rested her hand on his laps trying to calm him down, he was visibly angry. “Esther, I can’t believe you will hide such a thing from us. You simply amaze me’’. I just kept silent not really knowing what to say. I wasn’t too happy with the direction the discussion was heading.
When I heard King speak, I looked up, “With all due respect sir, I will not sit here and be insulted. I am not going to comment on whatever I told your daughter to get her to marry me. That is between two of us. I called you to tell you I am divorcing your daughter and I will also like to return whatever dowry I paid to you.” I was so shocked, my mouth went wide open. Next minute I saw my dad charging at him and giving him punches. He was very angry. I could not even say a word. I was just watching the scene unfold as King was trying to fend off my dad with his hands. I could not handle it anymore. Stop! I screamed at the top of my voice. All three sets of eyes looked at me like I was crazy. “Dad, I want you and mum to leave please. I can handle it from here.” My dad looked like he was set to argue but my mum spoke to him silently and I guessed whatever she told him was enough to change his mind because they immediately left.

I looked up at King sitting silently on the sofa after they left and I had to ask him some questions. In spite of all his lies, there was a sweet part to the man I married and that part was buried beneath all the bitterness.

"I want to ask you some questions and I really need you to answer me sincerely. Is there someone else King?''

"No, there is nobody else."

"Do you believe that I really had a miscarriage and I never aborted our children?''

"Yes I do, I spoke to our doctor and he told me all about it."

"Why are you so bitter? Do you think I deserve all these?''

He was silent for a long time and I did not think he was going to answer me. Finally he said,

"I don't know."

I had no other questions to ask. For some unimaginable reason, I held no more grudge or bitterness in my heart for my husband. I still loved him and the distance had made it easy for me to forgive all he did. I could not force him to stay married though. So I thanked him and went into my room to lie down. I ended up taking a nap for about two hours.

By the time I came out of my room, I knew my husband was gone. I just felt that emptiness. I knew I was alone in the house. I checked his room and all his cloths were gone. There was nothing left of him. I found a note on the table,

"Sorry I could not wait till Sunday. I think it is better this way."

I sat down on his bed and cried for all I had lost.

_____
I stood in front of the mirror, looking at my reflection. I barely even recognized myself. I could see the aging lines but the glow in my eyes was unmistakable. It wasn't from the make up even though that was done to perfection, it was from the joy I felt from within. My happiness truly knew no bounds. My lips were pulled into a smile that I had no control over. I smoothed down my elegant looking long yellow dress, making sure it was not wrinkled and flowed out, just like it was supposed to. I heard the door to my bedroom open behind me and looked up to see my two children, Adaobi and Uchenna walk in. At 21 and 20 years old respectively, Adaobi being the eldest, they looked so matured and had all of their father's looks. I have always been jealous of that. They looked every inch perfect in their outfits. I smiled at them even more happy.

"You look stunning mum", Ada said while Uchenna walked forward and gave me a peck on the cheeks. My eyes watered as I hugged him.

''Mum, please don't start crying, you'll ruin all the good job that make up artist did''.

''Okay, I will. I am just happy. They're tears of joy. It has indeed been a journey. I cannot believe I am celebrating my 25 years wedding anniversary with my whole family".

''We know mum, dad is really blessed to have you'', Adaobi said with smiles on her face. Okay we need to take you out to meet dad and the guests outside. His eyes will definitely pop when he sees you.

As we walked into the compound of our home in Ikoyi, I searched for him with my eyes among the almost 100 guests that had come to celebrate with us and there he was talking to some of his friends. After all these years, King had not lost his touch. He stood tall and proud and as soon as he saw me, he excused himself and began to walk towards me. He now had some grey hair showing. At just over 60 years old, he was definitely looking much younger. Who would believe that King and I would still be married today not to mention celebrating our silver jubilee. He gave me a peck right on the lips and our children mocked us as usual,

''Dad, please stop it already, wait till your wedding night redefined''.We all laughed at that and the master of ceremony invited us to come sit at the front, thereby starting the programme of events. There was so much food and drinks and all of our dearest friends were there. My parents had died few years ago but seeing me so happy later in life was so much fulfillment for them. I looked around at all our friends and family. We had really made so many friends over the years. Adaobi stood up to give a speech and I could not stop the flow of tears,

"Today, my brother and I are so delighted to be celebrating our parent's marital journey. We have learnt so many lessons of life from them. From my father, I have learnt that it is never too late to get it right. He has spent all of his life since we were born instilling the right values in us. He told us about his mistakes and we know to do better. We have learnt right from wrong because he fathered us right. From our mum, we have learnt the lessons of forgiveness and perseverance. We have learnt not to give up, we have learnt the true meaning of loving even when it is not possible. We are so proud to be their children and watching them as best friends even after 25 years of marriage is such a blessing to our family. Uche and I love you both.''

Even as she ended the speech and the band started to play, my mind drifted back to so long ago when I had thought my marriage was over:

''I remember thinking that King had left my life for good when he packed all his things and left that day but I was wrong, he did not believe he deserved me so he made up his mind to start courting me again and if he could not make me happy within the three months before our divorce proceedings date, then he was going to leave me for good. For the next three months, he sent me flowers, gifts and every kind of romantic gesture I did not expect. He went to beg my family and while my mum was easily forgiving, my dad took 5 years to finally forgive him". He sent me text messages begging me and telling me he was getting his life on track. His gifts did nothing to melt my heart but knowing he was going to be a better man was enough for me to give him a chance. King refused to go back to school, he claimed his children will have all the education he did not have and that was all he needed. He has proven that by making sure Adaobi had already started her PhD at age 21. He got some government contracts and before I knew it, there was absolutely nothing I needed to spend my money on. As soon as I started having kids, I resigned from my job. King insisted, saying he was going to spend his life taking care of me and I was to spend mine taking care of the kids. Trusting him not to lie was difficult at first, I doubted everything he said, but he never got weary of proving himself to me."

I felt a tap on my shoulder, my attention was being called. I had totally drifted away from the party, my mind going back to the past. My husband smiled at me, helping me up as we made our way to the make shift dance floor.

"What were you thinking about? King asked as we swayed to the music''.

"Our journey", was the only answer I could give him and he understood perfectly

Education / The Wives’ Revolt By J P Clark by Kakakino(m): 5:47pm On Jul 11, 2017
REVIEW: THE WIVES’ REVOLT BY J P CLARK

The Wives’ Revolt is the first comedy by J P Clark, the renowned poet and playwright. The play portrays a world where women are fed up with the injustices meted out to them by men.

Plot

Erhuwaren men share the money paid to them by the company that drills oil from their community. They share it in three parts – one for the elders, one for the men and the last for the women. The problem is that the ‘elders’ are all men.

The women say “no!” To make it fair, they demand the money be split into two – a simple division between the sexes. But the men also say “no!” The women revolt, beginning a cycle of ‘do me, I do you’.

Thoughts

There are only three characters in this drama - making the story easy to follow from the outset. It clearly dramatises the injustice the women suffer at the hands of their men. Unlike in traditional times, when the fairer sex had to swallow whatever males gave them, the wives (and even the mothers of the men) of the Erhuwaren don’t take ‘no’ for an answer. They know how to fight for their rights.

Okoro represents the deepest kinds of misogyny: when men don’t help their women to do the chores, don’t give their wives enough money for food and yet complain the soup isn’t tasty. Or those who beat up their partners in a drunken state and cap it all by accusing them of crimes they haven’t committed.

Koko, the wife of Okoro, conveys female dynamism: the living version of the saying, ‘as you make your bed, so you will lie on it’. If you want peace, they’ll give you peace. But if you want trouble, they’ll neither spare you nor themselves.

Idama, the friend and peer of Okoro, is the human conscience struggling to create a balance between a man’s longing to satisfy himself and the need to do so without offending anyone.

Verdict

The blurb of this 62-page book calls it a ‘hilarious piece’. But when I was done reading I realised I hadn’t laughed once. It reminds me of literary critic Professor N A Akwanya’s thoughts on genre. He said: “Tragedy is not tragedy just because it can make the reader cry.”

In the same way, this work succeeds as a well-written comedy – not because it is hilarious because, to me, it isn’t – but because it showcases an almost surreal world where actions, no matter how horrible they are, do not attract serious consequences.

You may need to keep a dictionary beside you to look up uncommonly used words like ‘repudiating’ (means ‘refuse to accept’). But not to worry – most of the language isn’t beyond the reach of an average reader.

THE WIVES' REVOLT
Coming to this play from Ola Rotimi's action-packed sensational farce, this equally farcical comedy is, however, more a drama of mental pictures than it is an imitation of significant action. Like a radio play, it depends quite heavily on 'the extension of our sense of hearing' (Mclluhan) than on the exercise of our sense of seeing. Ideally, theatre is an audio-visual medium. The female protest march in the penultimate
scene would definitely have been more dramatic and as such more effective had it been staged before our very eyes. Knowing the theatrical difficulties this would entail, however, the playwright reports the event through a character, Koko. The sounds of protest, it would be obvious, would have to be carried or broadcast to the audience mechanically. Possibly because of the inadequacies of such broadcast medium, the playwright makes Koko recite to us the words of the protest chant.

This is not to say that there are no very dramatic episodes in the play. The penultimate scene, in fact, is where the play truly comes alive for the first time, especially with the physical fight between Okoro and his wife. There is also the very effective visual of Okoro in the fourth Movement carrying a baby on his back.
The problem here, however, would be how to make the baby act and cry according to script, except, again, we would have to resort to the use of a mechanical medium. One cannot help imagining that the play would have been a lot more effective if the playwright had adopted an Athol-Fugard-style narrative monologue interspersed with illustrative skits, a simulation of the television documentary. With the number of folkloric songs in this play (an asset) it would also have been possible for the playwright to adopt the Anansesem motif. As it is, however, the playwright relies heavily on dialogue which easily becomes unnatural as he forces in extraneous reference after extraneous reference without due regard for conversational
coherence. This is the only way our playwright is able to bring in so many themes in such a short play. A list of the themes, which are mostly verbally-asserted rather than enacted, is given below, after an enunciation the major one.

Major Theme: Need for Female-Gender Respect
The primary theme is the unsavoury consequences of the traditional condonation of gender discrimination in African societies. The events here reenacted are true history but have, ofcourse, been creatively remoulded to succinctly convey the social lessons intended. An oil company had given monetary compensation to the Erhuwaren community for the despoilment of their land through oil exploration. The money was shared into three parts: one part to the elders, one part to the males and the third part to the females. The females, led by the wives, felt that the sharing was unfair, since all the elders were males (females, no matter how old they become are not admisable to the elders council) They protested this inequity so stridently in a public meeting. that when three men testified before the elders that their wives
had started turning into goats to harass law-abiding townfolk, they were believed. Rather than appease the aggrieved women, therefore, the town rulership responded by banning all goats (a domestic animal mostly owned by women while men owned pigs) from the town. The women, therefore, decided to march in protest through a number of Ughievwen clan towns and ended up in Eyara, a traditional rival town in the creation of Udje satiric songs. While the protest lasted, the men had to do all the domestic work, including childcare. In the end, the men learnt the importance of the role of women in society and agreed to share the compensation equally with the womenfolk and, in addition, pay compensation to them. The obnoxious law was also repealed.

The story teaches that women are indispensible in society and ought to be treated with respect. The dialogues of Koko and her male-chauvinistic husband help to place in pejorative light a lot of the traditional African attitudes to women and women affairs. Early and polygamous marriages are implicity criticized (IV, pp. 26 & 36)) That the women are accused of withcraft is significant since this is the same manner in which women in African societies are unjustly targeted during witch-hunts. The listing of female chores in Movement III show the subordination of women in society. Although the fire-making and water-fetching difficulties of Okoro and Idama are farcical, they do illustrate the importance of women in the African home. Their inevitability is make most clear when Okoro asks the crying baby he is backingif it wants to be breast-fed. and proceeds to rave at the poor child accusing it of failing to realize that 'those with full breasts' have walked out of town ((IV, p. 26) (These instances, also, however, show that there is need for basic survival skills among men in African societies) The continuous reference to old girls (an attempt by the playwright to translate the pejorative 'emetogbe') indicates that there is a high rate of divorce in the society. Koko is used to very effectively describe and upbraid the injustice of African divorce, which discountenances all the contributions the wife has made to the building of the home as she is usually sent parking without alimony (V, p.51) In fact, her bride price has to be refunded by her family! . Adultery attracts for the female threat of death by cutlass (V, p. 41) while it is condoned for males (II, p.12) The norm in African matrimony appears to be discontentment, bickering and recriminations (IV, p. 25). The in-laws do not help matters, being given to unconditional negative regard and expectations (III) These various examples and issues should be brought up and exhaustively treated during group study discussions,
drawing, especially, on traditional experience.

Other Themes (Not dramatically demonstrated and as such ephemeral and journalistic in value):
1. Oil explorational devastation of the land: Koko makes reference to land turned-up into pits and mounds 'like a place oil companies have passed through in search of new fields' (II) Pollution of the waters mean that the imported iced fish has replaced the natural fresh fish even among traditional fishing societies (II) Despite the despoilation, the oil money goes to Nigerian capitals far from the oil fields (II, VI) The compensations paid to the local communities are so little they cannot build schools or roads (p.60) and, as we see in this play, often cause tragic splits. Prof. G.G. Darah who specializes in the oral literature of this area, in a conversation, points out the unfortunate case of an Urhobo clan where a four-million-Naira compensation led to the beheading of the traditional ruler and bitter internicine conflict.
2. Currupt acquisition of traditional honorary titles (II, IV, p.33)
3. Unhygeinic preparation of garri (a staple food)
4. Filthiness of Lagos
5. Superstition (II, IV, p.33)
6. Domestic issues

Language
The language of this play is highly figurative. The playwright puts in the mouths of his rural characters a lot of striking similes appropriately drawn from the local flora and fauna:
1. Ants are aptly descibed as able to move big objects, though mute, while flies (women in this context) despite all their noise cannot move anything (II, p. 11)
2. Okoro says he wont be picked up by the tail like some wet rat out of a sewer (II, p12)
3. Okoro describes the fish in his mouth as 'soft as water-yam in oil'(II, p. 3)) Other examples are:
4. 'what they fed their guests on couldn't fill the belly of an eel' (IV, p. 34)
5. 'walking like a hen that has just laid' (V, p.38)
6. 'hotter than pepper taken by the Ijaw with palm wine' (V, p.41)
7. 'Words break in your mouth as an unripe banana (V, p.48)
There are other striking usages as when Okoro says the females if they protest to the capital would be 'snuffed out as so many spluttering candles' (II, p.15) and a few queer ones as 'watch your mouth' (II) , 'Nobody called you a tell-tale' (II) and Koko who reportedly 'bobs' while serving the husband water (II, p. 14)

Editorial
Koko is erroneously presented as Idama in page 44 and as Okoro in page 46.

Celebrities / How To Make Someone Who's Angry At You Suddenly Become Nice (even If He's A Stra by Kakakino(m): 11:50am On Jul 11, 2017
grin

We’ve all found ourselves in situations where someone is angry with us. It could be a spouse, friend, co-worker, or even a stranger! And if you’re someone who likes everyone to be happy and nice, then these instances make you uncomfortable. You want to solve the problem and make things better. But how do you make a person who’s angry at you suddenly become nice?
4 Steps to Fix the Situation
Every situation is unique and you’ll have to determine how to best approach an angry person in the moment. However, in most cases, the following tips and techniques apply.
1. Don’t Retaliate
The number one rule is to avoid retaliation. No matter what someone does, you can’t attack back. This will only make the person angrier. A common example of this is when someone gets angry and cuts you off in traffic because you’ve been driving slower than they’d like. If you respond by cutting them off, this will infuriate them even more.
As hard as it can be, never repay an angry action with another angry action. Even though you feel disrespected, you have to put your pride aside and move on. Make sure you don’t come across as sarcastic, though, as this can infuriate an angry person even more.
2. Show Your Care
Instead of acting angry, show the person that you care about their situation. You’ll find that angry people are often that way because they feel misunderstood. Taking the time to listen may be enough to change their attitude. Depending on the situation, here are some good lines:

Can you tell me what’s wrong? Maybe I can help.
I’m sorry you feel that way. Is there something I can do?
This should have never happened. How are you feeling?

Little lines like these are enough to get the angry person talking. You may eventually be able to help them see past the problem by letting them talk it out.
3. Make Yourself Human
If the angry person is directing their malice towards you, the quickest way to reduce frustration is by making yourself seem more human. Tell them how their anger makes you feel – i.e. scared, confused, or anxious – and be sure to let them know that you mean no harm in your words or actions.
4. Lighten the Mood
You have to be careful with this technique, but a mean person can often be quelled by lightening the mood. Consider telling a joke, flashing a smile, or adding perspective to something that isn’t really that big of a deal. Knowing when to do these things will get you far in life.
Don’t Let Someone Else Ruin Your Day
When it’s all said and done, it’s impossible for you to control someone else’s emotions. No matter how hard you may try, some angry people just want to remain angry. If at all possible, don’t let them ruin your day. Choose kindness and you’ll be the better person.

Politics / Ondo Assembly Crisis: Akeredolu Meets 13 Lawmakers, Faction Disagrees by Kakakino(m): 9:43pm On Mar 07, 2017
[img][/img]
Peter Dada, Akure

The leadership crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly has not reached a resolution point as the Malachi Coker’s faction of the lawmakers insisted that the purported impeached principal officers of the Assembly must step aside in spite of the efforts of the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu to resolve the crisis.

Akeredolu met with the embattled speaker of the Assembly, Mrs. Jumoke Akindele and other 12 other lawmakers at the governor’s office in Akure, the state capital on Monday, and was said to have appealed to them to find ways to resolve the crisis.

Akindele, the deputy speaker, Mr. Fatai Olotu and the majority leader of the Assembly, Mr. Ifedayo Akinsoyonu were purportedly impeached by 13 members of the Assembly in January over an allegation of financial misappropriation.

After the purported impeachment, Mr. Malachi Coker, Ayodele Arowele and Olamide George were appointed as speaker, deputy speaker and majority leader in acting capacity but Akindele insisted that she was still the authentic speaker of the Assembly .

Since the crisis begun the lawmakers had not sat down for legislative activities in the Assembly. To this end Governor Akeredolu was said to have appealed to the lawmakers to settle the crisis amicably.

The Chairman House Committee on Information, Mr. Siji Akindiose who spoke with our correspondent in Akure on Tuesday said the governor at the meeting advised them to go back to the Assembly and resolve the crisis among themselves amicably.

He said, “Our meeting with the governor has shown that he (Akeredolu) is a very fair-minded person. He has shown that he is a person we can work with. He insisted that we should have amicable resolution and we believe in him.

“He insists that the 26 of us must come together and work for, not for him but for the people that elected us. He did not take side and we have expressed our desire to him to do our best in the interest of our people”

However, the spokesman of the Coker’s faction of the lawmakers, Mr. Iroju Ogundeji said the meeting of Akeredolu with other faction had not changed their decision to remove Akindele as the speaker of the House.

Ogundeji, who spoke on Orange FM, Akure on Tuesday said all the impeached principals officers remained impeached, saying particularly that Akindele had committed an impeachable offence.

He said, ” I am aware that the governor has looked into the matter but as far as we are concerned, we believe that the course of the law must prevail.

” The issue of impeachment against the three principal officers has come to stay. We are talking about resolution but the subject matter of the impeachment has not been resolved. What led to the impeachment was fraud and it had not been resolved.”

It was gathered that the governor had scheduled to meet all the 26 lawmakers before the week runs out.

Romance / Fausat ELEJA SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 by Kakakino(m): 12:28am On Dec 15, 2016
WRITTEN BY ONISMATE DEVELOPED BY YKOLAZ EPISODE 1 The wisest person is not the one who has the fewest failures but the one who turns failures to best account. All humane things are subject to decay, And when fate summons, Monarchs must obey. This is my story................."The longer I live the more I see that I am never wrong about anything, and all the pains that I have so humbly taken to verify my notions have only wasted my time and ended it up here...."....... .......I met her during our Gns classes when I was in 100 level in Funaab. We sat close to each other on the same seat. I began chatting with her during the class and, after the class, we continued the chat. She said her name was seyi. I followed her to Colnas (College Of Natural science building). She said she was in MCB(micro biology). Few days later, I asked her out, she refused. I already knew that’s how it would be. Girls like her are very tough and hard to get. Before she accepted for us to date, it took about 4 months, after I have talked, begged and, all through that I never gave up on her, I love her. There is something about her that is so different, this is the unique. After the endless pressures. Finally she accepted; She called me on that faithful day, infact her call woke me up that morning. She told me she had something to tell me in school, that I should meet her at one of the eateries at SUB by 1pm. After the day's lecture, I headed for sub, I met her at one of the buka. I sat oppositely to her seat, I was anxious to hear what she had to say, I thought maybe she had a problem but that was not it. She broke the news to me. That she has accepted to date me. I was so happy, so joyous. The way I screamed and hugged her, she was embarrassed but I never mind. People were just looking at us. I felt God has answered my prayers. With all excitement, I told her to follow me home; thank God she wasn’t having any other lecture for the day; me too, I wasn’t having any other lectures. She agreed and, straight away we went to somorine. We got to somorine junction with a cab. We entered a bike (okada). As I was talking with the Okada man, I was sure he noticed I was so excited, she couldn’t ask me why. Both of us (me and seyi) got to my house. This is not her first time of coming to my house, she had been there couple of times but to her female friends. But this time, it was special. The visit was only for me and nobody else. We got to my gate, the okada dropped us, I paid him while he left. As she wanted to enter inside my room, I did something hilarious

Celebrities / Are These The Reasons Why 'hot' Lagos Babes Are Still Single? by Kakakino(m): 8:06am On Sep 15, 2016
I came across this piece online and it kept me asking if these 5 reasons are part of the reason for this.

Are these mere speculations on possible reasons why these hot, smart, down to earth, and funny girls are single? Read on...

Men presume they’re already taken

This is a number one reason most of the hottest girls in Lagos are still single. A lot of men assume that because the girl is pretty, has an education, makes her own money, and seems happy, she must already be taken so they give up even before they start. They do not bother to get close to the girl or even ask her out as they feel they would be fighting an already lost battle.

Society does not set the rules

In Nigeria, most girls are generally groomed from a young age to believe that finding a man and having a family is the most important accomplishment in life. As a result, there is the expectation from the society that a girl above 25 should either be married or in a serious relationship that would lead to marriage. The thing with Lagos girls, though, is that they do not conform to this dictate of the society. The Lagos girl most times is occupied with so many other things making “finding a man to spend the rest of her life with” an item not so high on her list of to do’s. Basically, she makes her own rules and lives the way she wants to rather than being told what is and isn’t appropriate.

Most men are intimidated by their confidence

Lagos girls are one of the most confident girls in the world, especially the hot ones. While the confidence can be attractive, it tends to make the men want to run for cover. Usually, even the cockiest of men will second guess themselves before even daring to approach a Lagos girl. They get intimated and scared as they do not want to risk getting rejected.

The men are not as into commitment as they were

Thanks to modernization and influence from western cultures, a majority of Nigerian men, especially the one in Lagos have adopted the “hook up culture”, and this now seems to take precedence over serious relationships. It is therefore now difficult for Lagos girls to find commitment in a sea of men who just are not into it. Hence they remain single.

Most of the girls are focused on their career and have the time to meet men

In Lagos, the hustle is real for not just men but women as well. Most of the hottest girls work a lot of hours a day, including weekends as they focused on their career and want to climb as many ladders as they can. They are consumed with work, and coupled with the Lagos traffic there is little or no time for actual recreation , making the chances of them meeting men much slimmer. The few who end up creating profiles on online dating sites eventually give up as they may never get the time to meet up with their interests or when they do, they find they have been deceived.

What do you think guys?

Legendary RnB singer, 2face Idibia recently had a chat with NET.
In the interview, the singer revealed that he was scared of getting married while his fears included being unfaithful to his wife, Annie Idibia.

“I’m not surprised. Honestly, I mean back in the day it had come across my mind one or two times to propose to her but somehow it got to this point where I was like I’m not going to get married. Even before I started having kids I had already said I’m not going to get married.” said the father of 7.

The singer also added “Before then there’s been one or two times where I almost proposed to Annie. But I just said no no no because I just thought I wasn’t going to be faithful, I wasn’t going to be good enough. I had always thought I wasn’t going to be the best man for any woman so because of that, I just thought I’m not going to get married; I’m just going to live my life”.
