Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by kaymode(m): 2:29pm On Dec 10, 2019
Good day gurus in the house. Please I need advice, my battery seems to be discharging when parked overnight. I have been to different re-wires, I just end up spending money and the problem keep re-occurring. One of them even recoiled the alternator, the problem still persists. I have ended using 2 batteries in a year. Please does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this? I use an 05 Nissan Pathfinder.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Gurus in the house. Please does anyone have a rough time frame to hear from the VAC? I got a "UK Visa Application - Application Concluded" last friday the 19th of July. I assumed the passport will be ready for pick up today considering posting might have been done over the weekend. Please can anyone share thier experience about the time lines.

Hello, I am trying to invite my mother to visit us. She was given a 6months visa which expired in December 2018. With regards to the supporting documents I can send to her. Can I send only my pay slip? Or they will be needing my bank statement aswell. I will be responsible for her trip.

Car Talk / Exhaust Pipe Leak Repairs - Nissan Pathfinder 2005 by kaymode(m): 3:57pm On Dec 03, 2016
Hello House,

Please can anyone recommend any reputable technician that can deal with a leaking exhaust system? My nissan pathfinder 2005 has just been checked and confirmed to have a leaking exhaust which is triggering the P0430 code. Looking for someone who can fix this and where I can get the pipes to replace.

Thanks in advance for your contribution.

You have two issues, not too serious to tackle.
1. The oil leak. The engine oil cooler gasket (ring rubber as it's called) has probably gone flat. You may need to change it. If not then its either the filter is not properly fixed or the cooler housing is damaged.
2. The Cats. You could gut (evacuate) them. The world would not crash. If after removal you're tormented by the two error codes then you could fix spacers or extenders on the two downstream O2 sensors.

Thank you sir. Your comment was spot on. Just left a mechanic I met here on nairaland and he confirmed the leak was from the cooler gasket. That's been sorted. And for the cat code, there were leaks in the exhaust. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread

Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it. Symptoms Symptoms can include: Hard starting or no start Rough running / misfiring Loss of engine power Causes A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened: a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken the camshaft position sensor may have failed the PCM may have failed there exists an open circuit the crankshaft position sensor may have failed Possible Solutions With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try: Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit Check for continuity in the circuit wiring Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor Replace the camshaft position sensor as required Check the crankshaft position circuit as well Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

Code is P0430 not P0340 sir. Thanks for the info.

Contact any reputable auto technician in Lagos. (Gazzuzz comes to mind)

Thanks. Already contacted him as his work shop is not far from where I stay. Unfortunately he mentioned he doesn't work on Nissan vehicles.

Any idea where I could get good cats?

If cats are bad, the best practice I'd recommend is to replace it with good. No more no less.

@Kaymode, where's your location and what type of engine is your lNissan apathy using?

Thank you Kingreign, I stay in Ojodu berger. The truck is a V6 4.0 litre engine.

Hello Sir. Thank you for your very enlightening post. I just bought a 2005 pathfinder, the car mileage is on the high side (170k miles) . I'm not sure if the by pass has been carried out on the vehicle. Is there an easy way for me to check this considering I'm not too familiar with the connection system.

Looking forward to your response Sir.

Don't give yourself unnecessary stress, 500k compare to 450/470 you said you got here is not much different. Just monitor the progress and be available to receive your vehicle.

All the best.

Thank you all for your help. I'm new to this so the tips I have received here has been very helpful. I'm grateful to everyone.

Except other people that have consignments in the container agreed with you to provide your agent, since your own is one, you cannot use yours preferred agent because everything goes together irrespective of whose name is on the document. Negotiate with them to bring the price down.

Thanks for your post Sir. Just spoke to the guy and he said he would reduce it to 500k and when I mentioned involving another agent. He said what you wrote in your post above about him clearing the entire container and he hung up the phone.
I wonder why some people cannot be transparent, he should have an invoice where he details charges to clear and his own charges. Not just fudge up a figure. I probably would never ship through Canada.
Please can anyone advise how I could approach this?
Thanks for your responses.

Hi,
I have just shipped a 2005 Nissan pathfinder from Toronto canada to lagos(Tincan). The vehicle is being shipped in a shared container. I posted on this thread a few weeks ago seeking information on how much it will cost me to clear the car. I was informed it will cost me around 450-470k.

Please i need someone to enlighten me, on the Bill of Laden, under the forwarding Agent/Reference Section it states .... " For Delivery Apply to / Reference LIV Raison:" A clearing agent in nigeria.

The thing is, when i called this agent after getting an idea of the clearing cost from Nairaland, without doing any calculation, the guy just said 650k.

My question is, even though is company name is quoted on the Bill of Laden, Can I use a preffered clearing agent who will clear at a more reasonable rate for me.

Thanks and looking forward to your help.
