Day one of table tennis event


No upset yet as the Men's Singles Round of 16 starts today.

The leading names,the defending Champion and other notables players will be in contention today for a place in the quarter final of the Men's Singles .

Lagos's Adeyinka Hammed ,who is the defending Champion at the National Sport festival will have Oladele Kehinde from Ogun state to defeat for a place in the quarterfinals.

The light skinned Hammed defeated Mojeed Olayiwola to win Gold at Eko2012 .

Nigeria number two player and Akwa Ibom representative , Segun Toriola , who survived a scarce in the round of 32 againts Mustapha Bello of Bayelsa will have a tougher opponent in David Faleye of Lagos state .

David Faleye , a soldier , is the reigning Asoju Oba Champion and have played in the final of same competition three times .

Another thrilling encounter would be between Azeez Solanke of FCT and Fagbamila Wale of Ondo State , the former who represented Nigeria at the Youth Olympics in Argentina is gradually become a household name in Nigeria .

Timothy Olatunji of Ogun state will slug it out with National Junior , player Mati Taiwo of Ondo .

Mati Taiwo was described as the future " Aruna Quadri " by an International magazine .

Orimolade Siraju of FCT will be challenging 2016 Asoju Oba Champion , Rilwan Akanbi of Delta state

Rilwan Akanbi is a ping ponger that can cause upset .

The oldest ping ponger at the festival , Taofik Maya of Oyo state will face Eko 2012 bronze medalist , Ganiyu Ashimiyu of Bayelsa .

Komolafe Peters of Sokoto will play Samson Samuel of Bayelsa while Etim Orok of Cross River will battle Oyeniyi Lateef of Osun state .

1. 2008 u-13,i won sliver medal in single and Doubles event at
national school sport festiver Lagos,i went to abuja for national
insutition for development program abuja .
2. 2009 u-13 I won bronze medal in at national school sport festiver.
3. 2010 u-13 i won gold medal national school sport festiver kano state.
4. 2013 u-17 gold medal in Doubles event and i won sliver medal in
single event at 10th Aso table tennis Championship, i won bronze medal
in Doubles event at Lagos international table tennis classic, i won
gold medal in single and Doubles event at under 17 inter zonal table
tennis Championship, i won bronze medal in single event at kwara state
men's table tennis Championship.
5. 2015 u-17, i won bronze medal in single event at 11th Aso table
tennis club Championship, i lost in round of 32 at ITTF world tour
nigeria open,i won gold medal in Kwara state men's table tennis
Championship.
6. 2016 u-21,i lost at round of eight to egyt player
3-0,11-7,11-8,11-5, i lost at round of 16 in men's single, my world
ranking is number 827 in world and i won 2016 under 21 nigeria best
player.

With the performance of some Nigerian players in the last ITTF Premier Lotto Nigeria Open may aided the entrance of the players into the latest world ranking to be released by the world table tennis ruling body this week.
Top among the Nigerian players that his name will be inked on the list is Tobi Falana who , beyond all odds , made it to the last 16 of the men ’ s singles as a qualifier after causing an upset in the main draw ( round of 32 ) .
To be among the top 16 elite stars in the men ’s singles event, Falana bundled out number 15 seed, Ghana ’ s Felix Lartey 9 - 11 , 5 - 11 ,11 - 8 , 17 - 15 , 11 - 9, 13 - 11 (4 - 2 ) .
Falana however, met his Waterloo against the eventual champion , Finland’s Benedek Olah but the young Nigerian told NationSport , “ I think this is the best achievement for me especially making it to the last 16 of an ITTF World Tour . I am hoping that I can make the world ranking list this year , ” he said .
Also , Ahmed Bello , who after battling from the preliminary to make it to the main draw had an easy ride to the main last 16 after walking over Morocco ’s Mounaim Tirselt .
There are indications that the winner of the 2016 ITTF Premier Lotto Nigeria Open , Benedek Olah will move up the ranking table .
Listed at no . 149 on the Men’ s World Rankings at the start of the year in January , Benedek Olah is presently named at a career high figure of no . 74 and is now surely destined to

Six players, three boys and three girls will represent Kwara state in the forthcoming 1st National U-16 Table Tennis League scheduled to hold at the Knock-up hall of the National Table Tennis Training Center, National Stadium, Lagos, between March 30th and April 8th. The team will be led to the competition being organized by the Nigeria table Tennis Federation (NTTF) by Coach Kehinde Aiyelabegan and the Association Secretary, Asaju Folashade. The duo pledged that the players will give good account of themselves at the competition and
do the state proud, and also improve on their rating. The players are Falana Iyanu, Sukrat Aiyelabegan, Rofiat Jimoh,Abdullahi Issa ana Awwal jawondo. All the preliminaries will hold at the national Table Tennis Training Center, while he final will take place at the Sir Chief Molade Okoya Thomas Sports hall, Teslim balogun stadium, Lagos.

Lagos – The Nigeria Table Tennis
Federation (NTTF) on Tuesday said a
Nigerian Open qualification would hold
between April 2 and April 4.
NTTF’s Secretary-General, Chinedu
Ezealah-Ogundare, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the
qualification was to select more players
that would participate in the forthcoming
Nigeria Open.
“Our top four players will not be
participating in the qualifiers. They have merit slots.
“The qualification is to select more
players to join our top players in making
up the number of entries allocated to us.
“There are three categories involved in
the competition and ideally, each country can have 12 entries in each category.
“We have the men and women, U-21
boys and girls and the doubles.
“In past editions, we have always
pleaded with the International Table
Tennis Federation to increase our number of entries.
