Nice to hear from you.
Why not visit kasoc in qhana, it's a nice place, that was the area ah stayed in ma last visit.
Tell me, how did u qot to Abidjan, which transport company did u follow, how was it like etc.

[quote author=schboy3 post=46088027]

I will try it out. I am still finding my way around

As to how to got to Abidjan, it was not straight. Because I was moving from Benin to Togo, I had to cross the Togo/Ghana border to ALAO(It is the town at the Ghana side of the border). I used the shortcut and paid 2500CFA. At AFLAO, there is a big motor park(I think it is called Diplomat Park) where I got a bus(long, comfortable) that took me directly to Elibou(The other end of Ghana). From AFLAO to Elibou is normally 9,500CFA or 10, 000CFA, never more than that.)

at the Elibou Border, you can get a bus that will take you directly to Treichville(A popular centre in Abidjan). It shouldn't cost more than 7000CFA. From treichville, you cab find your way around.

Please note that I didn't include all the bribes you just pay to immigration. While going from AFLAO to Elibou, you will pass through two immigration posts. You will have to pay 1000CFA to each of them unless your passport is stamped. After paying that, then you have to settle the real Ghana immigration folks, then the Ivorians.

My advice is: Get your valid vaccination card before travelling.

If you want to go from Accra to Abidjan, you can take STC(It is the most popular). Costs around 20, 000 CFA or so.

Hope this helps.. I don too type sef....

That your mathematical analysis no correct o!!!!
The analysis should have been between CFA and Cedi. Don't bring naira into it o.
The last time I checked. 6.5 Cedi equals 1000CFA.
Do the maths using that instead.
I used Gbaka too. Apprenti!!!!!!! lol grin cheesy

I'm happy you enjoyed the city, as it is a city I will visit again and again.

Funny enough I don't like attieke I just eat the fish and leave the rest.

Did you visit the university?
What ofthe zoo?
Enjoy Accra too o, and you can finish in Lome before coming home. That is another magical city.

5 Cedis is 1000CFA. I came into Accra about two weeks ago or so from Abidjan with CFA. In fact, when you wan drop for immigration guys dey will ask you to either pay 1000CFA or 5 Cedis.

Maybe the Naira analysis was wrong sha. I withdrew via ATM. Didn't even check the charges. I am using online conversion rate.

You mean the university of Cocody? When there is no WiFi at home, I take Gbaka to the university and enjoy unlimited free internet.. LOL. I didn't visit the zoo. I don't like going to see caged animals sha.

I went to Grand Bassam, Dabou, Yammousokro and then visited the park and malls around Plateau and Deux Plateau.

For Lome, I spend 4 days there. Apart from the beach, nothing so special for me. Maybe I didn't explore enough.. The horizon of the Ocean is great. Especially at night..

If you have name of places, drop them biko.

Next year, I will be off to Central and East Africa with my girlfriend.

I know data and calls can be very cheap. MTN gave me 180 MB for 2 cedi. I feel cheated right now; D

But cabs are costly here.
20GHC upwards
paid 30GHC to the airport From east legon. can you compare that with cab price in Abidjan? the highest I paid for cab is 3500 CFA and it is because the distance was far (Basaam)

Light bill is costly too.

And other stuffs tho

I agree on that..Cabs are expensive. But 20 Cedis is 1000 naira(Official rate). 3500 CFA is roughly above 1000 Naira(official rate).

When I was in Abidjan, I did everything to stay away from the red Taxis.Lmao.. I used Gbaka mostly and then the Suburb Taxis that charge around 100CFA or 200CFA.

The highest you will pay for Gbaka or the suburb Taxi is 400CFA. Highest..

I fit use that 3500 CFA buy Acheke with confirm Chicken and meat still collect change. Lmao.

Say No to Red Taxis.

I agree 100%
But Oga, Accra is expensive o!!!!
There is nothing really special though about Accra, but there is light.
But if you can, go to cape coast and have fun.

Continue roaming about.....
It's good for you

Communication is also way cheaper here. They are robbing us in Nigeria.
You can get 200MB of legitimate airtel data for 2Cedis. That is less than 100 Naira.

I bought Vodafone and subscribed for the " X" package. I paid just 11Cedis and I got 1.7GB with free calls to Vodafone X users and free SMS to all Vodafone users.

Can any network beat that in Nigeria?

Well, for just 4Cedis you can buy fried rice with chicken and spaghetti and maybe sprinklings of vegetables. And that is less than 200 Naira(Official) rate.. If I need chicken in Nigeria, I will be spending from 500 upwards.

That for me is cheap. And houses are cheap here. I don't know about Hotels though, I've never stayed in one during all my travels. But house rent and buying a house is quite cheap.

For light, it is less shitty than Lagos. But the electricity problems is almost the same. Better than Nigeria but still bad.

I stayed in Abidjan for close to two Months and the lights never went off. Not once.

I am headed to Cape coast in August. Will probably spend two weeks there. I passed through it and it was just amazing.

Where have life taken you to? There is nothing as fun as roaming about.. If you have the right bank account and roaming about for the right reasons.

good morning guys,
1..please whats the exchange rate of naira to cfa at the border?
2. Where is the best place to change your naira to cfa.
Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Terrible mehn. Try changing at Sabo. Something between 1400 Naira against 1000 CFA and 1800 to 1000 CFA. That is from two weeks ago. Naira is still taking a nosedive. So, it might be worst.

Last time I went to the airport in Abidjan, 1000CFA was 1000 Naira.

Yes, it is bad.

@kelvinlarmar,how is things in Abidjan compared to accra?I learnt their ladies are cute! Is it true?let's hear more from u,thanks.

Abidjan is far more advanced and organized than Accra. Accra is just a half-baked version of Lagos.

For the ladies, yeah. They are really really cute. For me, I Stayed INA middle class neighborhood, so you'd find a lot of those really cute girls around. And, most of the really cute ones I've seen around speak a bit of English since they attend decent schools.

For Accra girls, not much there. Unless perhaps the ones that have Lebanese ancestry like their TV stars(There are lots of them Lebanese-Ghanian in Accra). You cab still find pretty girls here and there.

But Abidjan is the city to be in.

Hi KelvinLamar, how was ur trip to Abidjan, so can share ur experience. Am also planninq such, buh ah just to wanna prepare maself before then.

Abidjan is splendid city, great city. It is by far the best African city I've been to yet. I lived in Abidjan for one month and roughly one week with a family host, so it helped cut my spending. Abidjan have the very basic of a modern society: Electricity and clean water. Abidjan is a lot much more organized than, say, Lagos. And it has a very large expatriate population with an above average night/fun life. Modern bars with Acheke joints flanking them are scattered all over the city. The road network is great.

I can go on and on and on!!!! So many good stuffs. I didn't spend on food and internet(I got that for free at my host family) so I can't give you an idea on cost of living. But if there is a Francophone city worth visiting, it is Abidjan.

I am currently in Accra. And it is as shitty as Lagos. Just less expensive.

Good day my Cotonou people.
Who has gone and come back recently? Please update me on current exchange rates at seme border o
I wan waka that route again....
Any ideas?

As of last week, 1000 Naira was 1800 CFA. I think it is dropping further. Not sure though.

I am currently in Abidjan. it is 1000 Naira to 1000 CFA at their airport and then 1000 Naira to 1300 CFA at BDC guys here.

However, the rate is still the same at the banks... 2.99 or so. Not sure. Though you can't use your ATM card.

As an experienced West African traveller, lol grin Lemme advice you.
Better carry cash on you, because ATMs have been blocked, except it is a dolkat/Euro account.
Learn at least some phrases in French. It will help you. Numbers will help you even more, if not you go hear an for there o.

Draw your roadmaps on time too.

Which cities are you doing?

Cotonou-Lome-Accra-Abidjan-Bamako-Dakar?

or you go cut am?
Willing to hear from you

Ugosample,
I have done most of my homework. I am still bad with French though. I will be in Cotonou tomorrow. By Monday, I should move over to Lome and then Accra during the weekends. I plan to end it all in Abidjan, but if I have enough money left, I should try out Burkina Faso.

Thankfully, I was part of AIESEC, a student organization present in about 126 countries(All West African countries). I will be staying and touring with fellow AIESEC members and Alumni as hosts in each country.

Hopefully, I no go enter one chance. Will give guys feedbacks with time.

Thanks!

Most of them do their transactions at seme boarder. for those who do transactions with banks at cotonue, then they must have ascertain a little knowledge in french or much knowledge.

Zhukafa. I have been following this thread since late last year. Thank you so much for the information you have been providing here.

I plan on travelling across West Africa, starting from Benin Republic. I am leaving next week.

My question is: Can I use maybe a UBA or EcoBank ATM card to withdraw in CFA without going through the hassle of the black market? I mean, those banks are "supposedly" pan African. Something like, get into Benin Republic and just withdraw there directly in CFA.

There are so many other questions. But you have already answered them(2012 till date)
