SOURCE(NAIJAPALABA.COM)-An assailant has stabbed to death the son of former German president Richard von Weizsaecker in attack at a Berlin hospital that left one other person seriously injured, police said Wednesday. The motive for the attack on Fritz von Weizsaecker, 59, on Tuesday evening was unclear. Von Weizsaecker, a doctor, had just delivered a lecture on liver diseases at the Schlosspark hospital in the western Berlin neighbourhood of Charlottenburg when he was stabbed, a police spokesman said. He died at the scene despite efforts to save him. The suspect was overpowered by other people present, one of whom was severely injured by the attacker.

SOURCE(NAIJAPALABA.COM)-African countries should hasten the adoption of the Chinese legal tender — yuan — as a reserve currency amid increased bilateral trade with China, a Kenyan economist said. Bernard Ayieko, a Nairobi-based economist said in a commentary published by the Business Daily newspaper that the adoption of the yuan would boost the ability of African countries to attract new investments and trade favourably at the global market. “The Chinese growing influence and the increase in Sino-Africa relations have brought to the fore a debate on the African countries’ need to adopt the renminbi as a currency reserve,” Ayieko added.

Later Thursday, the emperor will take a ritual bath in a specially constructed complex of wooden buildings in the imperial palace known as the Daijokyu and then slip into white silk vestments.

The IATA stated that airlines in the region were burdened by excessive charges, which accounted for 11.4 per cent of their operating costs. “User charges are excessive. They account for 11.4 per cent of African airlines’ operating costs. That is double the industry average. And there is a plethora of taxes and charges, some unique,” the Chief Executive Officer of the IATA, Alexander de Junaic said.

The Human Rights Watch also called on the Federal Government to order investigation into the abuses.

SOURCE(NAIJAPALABA.COM)-The Federal Ministry of Justice owes private lawyers engaged to prosecute a retired judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, and two former co-defendants, to the tune of N164m, the private legal practitioners have alleged. Sunday obtained their letter dated October 21, 2019, sent to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), demanding to be paid their legal fee. A copy of the letter bearing the AGF office’s acknowledgment stamp dated October 25, 2019, stated that the unpaid N164m was the fee for the lawyers’ handling of the appeals challenging the judgment of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja which had in April 2017 exonerated Justice Ademola and his co-defendants.

SOURCE(NAIJAPALABA.COM)-The drop in the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly known as cooking gas, to Lagos has led to an increase in the retail price of the commodity, raising fears of an imminent scarcity in the state and many parts of the country. The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers said last Wednesday that terminal owners had increased the price of 20 metric tonnes of the LPG by 33 per cent to N4.2m within five days. NALPGAM said efforts to extract the cause of the sudden price increase from the terminal operators had not been successful.
