esquire:

The guy with the usb modem
Have been very indisposed lately
Due to my experience with all these modems on linux, if it does not work out of the box in linux then its a serial usb modem.Now lets ddo it together

Step 1. Insert the card and open terminal type sudo dmesg and supply your password the it should provide lots of output but search for someething like this 0.0: ttyS0 at I/O 0x2e8 (irq = 3) is a 16C950/954. Take note of something like ttySO or Usb0 thats the mounting point of your modem

Step 2. edit /etc/wvdial.conf this way in the terminal sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf the it should provide you with a text editor with nothing or somethinng inside the copy and paste these to replace whats inside the text editor

Modem = /dev/ttyS0
Baud = 57600
SetVolume = 0
Dial-AT-OK ATDT Command =
Init1 = ATZ
FlowControl = Hardware (CRTSCTS)
Phone = #777
Username = put your usern
Password =
New PPPD = yes
Carrier Check = no
Stupid Mode = 1

Note thats the mount point that i told you to take not of is whats you'll put in front of your modem, out your usernameand password then save and exit then type sudo wvdial from the terminal it should connect, in case it gives you any error just copy and put the error mesg so that we'll look into it. Am not so good at writing guides so bear with me

Thank you so much, i'll work with this now and paste any errors is found.

Computers / Re: Best Antivirus To Use by kend0a2j: 1:00am On Jul 02, 2009
Used AVG for a long time and i was in love with it, until it got to a point i could not update it anymore, each time i try to update i get error msg. tried Avast and discovered it was not stil good enuf while i tried cleanin my external HD from some trojans, then tried NOD32 for a while and it only made it worse couldn't do a thing kept advising to delete files instead of repair, then Kaspersky did a little wonder but could not keep up wit kaspersky cos it detected some of my programs as virus and wouldn't let them run properly plus i was using Win XP compat. application for Vista, u know d difficultly if u know wat am talkin about, and then came Norton 2009, wow am sure this will break many hearts, it worked wonders fixed my external HD but stil didn't like it cos i never did, now am back to avast.

In all i stil think kaspersky worked the best during this period.

Computers / Re: Need Help On Sata Compatible Window Xp by kend0a2j: 7:23pm On Jul 01, 2009
@subby4u I have successfully downgraded and upgrade from Vista to XP and XP back to Vista on Vista Based Toshiba Satellite by creating my own SATA Windows XP SP3 dis. Its a simple and logical process. You will need nLite for this integration, I bet you can do it yourself cos am a newbie in this field too. Google is your friend, but if no way, then you can post the model of your system, i mean;

Product name:
Model:
And other related information.

Kollyp is very correct to an extent, if you have a HSDPA enabled phone, not just any 3G phone, you will enjoy download speed as high as 210Kb/s but is you use a phone with not too good 3G capabilty then i strongly recommend you use a datacard or USB Fastlink if you want to enjoy the 3.5G thing.

As for the day plan, i think its not for people for people who stay long hours online or do heavy downloads.

For the Nite plan, well like some1 already said you can keep it alive even after the nite time time, but I want to add that I have kept it alive continuosly for 2days grin , don't be surprised I spend longtime online. I finally had to get off it, cos I had to stay out long enough for my system to go off while PHCN did their thing. So, in a nutshell, if you don't disconnect and ur system don't is busy, u can remain online even after the nite plan.

As for the limit and generally to round it up, I got a way wit it, no limit, no disconnection on my end. lol and I intend to keep this to myself and few others that already know. You all know naija thing, "tell one and it might last a little while, but tell a few oh, its dead instantly".

Thank you for reading.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by kend0a2j: 6:20pm On Mar 21, 2008
I found this forum during my quest to expand the stations on my satelite. I reside in Edo state and use a Strong Brand of Decoder with a 90cm dish and on a monthly subcription with MYTV.

I am able to FTA stations and other subscribed stations on mytv,, i wish to know other stations available on this KU band satelite aside the regular religious stations and my subscribed stations, plus other readily available helpful tips and infos.

Please feel free to message me at kendoa2j@yahoo.com
