Phones / Your Phone & You... by KennethD: 11:52am On Oct 04, 2020
Phones are so important, aren't they? At the moment a whopping 5.22 Billion out of the world's 7 Billion population have them. Nigeria has nearly 186 Million subscribers so it's safe to assume that around that number of phones will be in use here.

My focus however, in this short post is to shed light on how you use your devices. A lot of people don't have much of phone etiquette. They just got phones and started using them without trying to understand best practices on their usage. Here are a few things we shouldn't do....

1. Shouting when making or receiving a call. This exposes you as lacking class and disrespectful of others. Re-initiate the call again if you are having difficulty hearing the person on the other side.

2. Typing SMS/Messages/Posts in Capital letters. This comes across as you are SHOUTING!!!

3. Looking at your phone repeatedly when talking to someone. This is disrespectful to the other person. He/she deserves your attention when in conversation with you.

4. Plugging headphones into your ears comes off as aloof/you don't want to be disturbed. While this is ok when you're at home it's unacceptable at work

5. Using your phone when driving, especially without a hands free device. I believe there's a fine to be paid of you get caught

6. Calling someone and when the person picks, saying, "Who is this?" when you initiated the call. This happens most commonly when you are returning a missed call to a number you don't know. It's in poor taste.

7. Flashing, the art of initiating a call and then cutting it before the person on the other end can pick it. The objective, usually is for the other person to call you back. It can be really annoying

8. Those who call at odd hours of the day just because they have a phone in their hand. When others should be sleeping. Such "Midnight calls" can be disturbing.

9. Taking unnecessary shots/videos at events. How many of those images do you go back to look at once the event is over?

10. Carrying smartphones around with cracked and chipped screens. This gives the impression that you're either sloppy, or financially incapable of properly maintaining your high end devices.

While the first 9 points above are focused on behaviour that can be changed with a decision, the 10th point requires better care and maintenance for you device. We've got a service in place that can help you protect your devices from breakage or liquid damage thus saving you up to 75% in repair costs. Phones / Save At Least 75% On Your Smartphone Repairs by KennethD: 11:24am On Sep 30, 2020
We all love those shiny, beautiful and high premium smartphones and handsets. Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Infinix are just some of the brands Nigerians know and love.

But what happens if the device gets damaged? It is quite commonplace to have accidents with our devices. When this happens we have to recourse to repairs and fixing them.

The main challenge experienced by most people is the cost of the repairs. In most instances the cost of screen replacement could be enough to buy another phone of comparable standard. And even the cost to replace motherboards and other parts is not much better.

And that's why Evolve Systems Limited, in partnership with Axa Mansard Insurance Limited is promoting a device protection/device insurance package. While it can't prevent accidents from happening we can help you reduce your device repair costs by up to 75% thereby saving you good money.

Our product is geared towards either liquid damage or screen breakage occurring on your device. Customers pay a premium for the insurance which is usually 10% or less of the value of your device. If your screen gets broken you can claim up to 30% of the device towards the repairs. But if it is liquid damage you can claim up to 40%.

So for instance you purchase an iphone 11 for N500,000. Paying a one time insurance premium of N35,000 means if your screen gets broken you can claim N150,000 (30% of N500,000) towards the repairs. And if it is iquid damage N200,000 (40% of 500,000) could be claimed towards the repairs.

When you consider the cost of repairs these amounts would definitely go a long way to reducing your spend hence we can confidently beat our chest to say your costs can be reduced by as much as 75% if you ever need to make repairs.

For more details please click on the following link www.evolvesystems.com.ng. This service is open to new purchases of smartphones and tablets of not more than 2 months or for those intending to make a new purchase. You can also call/whatsapp 080 2312 2649 or 070 6337 3391 for more info

Phones / 10 Reasons Why You Need Smartphone Insurance by KennethD: 11:03am On Sep 28, 2020
Yinka was ecstatic. For months she had saved up to buy the latest Iphone. And today she had done it! She had gone to the best Iphone store in town and purchased the phone. The feeling she felt was one of great pleasure and accomplishment because it was quite expensive.

While waiting to pay at the checkout counter Titi, a store canvasser walked over to her. “Madam, congratulations on your purchase of the latest Iphone. We also sell insurance in case of screen or liquid damage. It will cost you around 10% of the cost of your device to get it insured.”

“Well, I’m always very careful with my handsets,” Yinka responded. “I’ll just buy a case to protect the phone and it will be fine.” “Besides the money for insurance is too much and I don’t have it now.”

A few days later Yinka was busy modelling some outfits for a fashion brand by the pool of a 5-star hotel. In between several shots her phone rang. It was her brother. As she engaged him in conversation she lost her footing and fell headlong into the pool. Upon her rescue she discovered, much to her dismay that the phone had stopped working.

She tried everything to power it up, to no avail. On a visit to the store she discovered that she would have to pay nearly 40% of the value of the phone to repair it. “If only I had listened to the store canvasser the other day,” she thought to herself. “I would have paid ten percent of the value to protect me from having to cough out forty percent for repairs.”

Sadly lots of people behave like Yinka when it comes to smartphone insurance. You hear things like, “Nothing will happen to my device.” Or, “I didn’t plan to spend on insurance.” But smartphone insurance is too important to simply ignore.

Here are 10 reasons why it is so:

High Cost of Repairs
One of the downsides of tech gadgets is the fact that repairs and replacement of damaged and defective parts could be quite expensive. In many cases you could be spending nearly 40% - 50% of the cost of purchasing the device just to repair it. Investing in a robust device insurance policy could drastically reduce your cost outlay by as much as 90%.

Tech Gadgets are Pricey and Expensive
Smartphones, tablets, laptops and all other tech gadgets are usually very pricey. Every year manufacturers add a few additional benefits and introduce new models into the market place. These devices are essentially “lifestyle” driven so they are positioned as premium. And very costly. Thus it makes sense to get the most out of your devices by using them for as long as possible. Smartphone insurance will go a long way towards your achieving this.

Dwindling Purchasing Power
In case you haven’t noticed, the value of what your money can buy continues to drop over time. What N100,000 can buy now will not be the same in 1 years time. Prices for tech gadgets and devices will continue to rise and rise. While this happens the value of your earnings will be stagnant, or even dwindle. This will cause many people to cut off certain expenditure. You can still get the best out of your current devices even when it may become harder to replace them with device insurance.

Accidents can, and will Happen
No one knows tomorrow. You can’t even predict what will happen 5 minutes from now. That’s why you must protect your valuables as much as possible and reduce your risks. Truth is, living life itself is a risk. Unexpected occurrences and unplanned outcomes can arise at any time. However it behoves on you to mitigate and minimize their impact on you, where possible.

Insurance is Protection
In your journey through life you need protection. There’s no better feeling than being protected just in case something unexpected occurs. And that’s basically what insurance is. Protection. According to the dictionary insurance can be defined as, “a thing providing protection against a possible eventuality.” It pays to be protected against damage to your devices always.

Guaranteed Compensation
Device insurance guarantees compensation for specified loss or damage to your devices in return for the payment of a specified premium. Premiums paid are usually far less in value than the claims a customer is entitled to if something happens. In other words you’re getting a further compensation towards the resolution of the eventuality experienced. Now that’s wonderful news.

Peace of Mind
In addition to being protected device insurance will give you peace of mind. You’re far less likely to be worried when something happens if you are insured against it. And that peace of mind in the midst of the storms of life is extremely priceless. This also translates to a sense of security.

Reduction of Out-of-Pocket Payments
Imagine how much Yinka will have to cough out for the repairs of her device. This was most definitely unplanned and would be quite substantial.
But with a device insurance cover this huge outlay would have been minimized significantly. At most she would have just added a more affordable amount.

Some Insurers offer additional benefits
Benefits vary from company to company, or depend on the nature of the device insurance cover. For instance some insurers can provide you with a temporary replacement for your damaged device until it is repaired.

Coverage for varying risks
There are so many risks that can occur to one’s devices. Theft, Screen and liquid damage, faulty charging port or earphone jack are just some examples. Again this varies between different service providers. But a top range plan essentially covers two or more of these risks when they occur. And at a reasonably priced premium because it has to be a competitively priced. This is definitely a huge benefit for subscribers.

In conclusion smartphone insurance might seem like a novel idea to many in Nigeria but it isn’t. In most developed countries people have always relied on it to protect their devices. And it’s surely one of the initiatives that makes it easy to afford the best devices for personal use.

Our Smartphone Insurance offering from Axa Mansard Insurance allows you to protect your smartphones and tablets from Accidental damage from liquid or screen breakage over a 12-month period for one affordable premium. If either occurs you can claim up to 30% - 40% of the value of your device towards the repairs. You can reach out to us on 08023122649 or 07063373391 for more info.

It’s definitely not too late for Yinka. She can still take up a device insurance cover even after repairing her phone this time. Who’s to say that one of the varying risks listed above doesn’t happen again?
