CHAPTER ONE

The music from the speakers blared loudly. I glide past the bodies dancing in Ace club to my target–the Red room.

“Rose, there are five men in the room. Retrieve the hard drive and leave no witnesses” Colonel Jacob voice fill my ear through the hidden earpiece I am wearing.

“Yes sir”. I steady the tray of Hennessy in my hands. I approach Tony and Edward the bouncers that guard the Red room.

“Order for the guests” I lean in and whisper into Tony’s ears. He's the more gullible one. I've worked at the Ace club for four months, gathering intel on Smoke, the leader of a drug cartel in Lagos.

“They don't want to be disturbed” Edward grunts. It's all w front, I see the way he looks at me when he thinks I'm not looking.

“Eddie calm down. I need to get lucky tonight” I rest my hands gently on his shoulders. “Who knows you might get lucky too”

“You have 5 minutes” He unlocke the door and let's me in.

There are six men instead of five. The Intel is never wrong, but I can't signal Jacob right now.

I drop the drink on the centre table gracefully.  I recognize smoke, with a burn scar on the right side of his face. He is signing some papers with the sixth unaccounted man.

“Mr.Amaechi, it was nice doing business with you. We expect the contracts done by May”.

I scan the room for the black briefcase he is to exchange with Brutus, the right hand man of another notorious cartel. Dirt and information the military needs to sentence them.

I move with the bottle to pour a drink for Brutus who tapped his glass asking for a refill.

“It's a pleasure working with you.  The Granite always delivers, there is no worries” the man is surprisingly young. I'm curious to how he met someone like Smoke. He has a sweet smile, it makes me feel he didn't deserve to be here. I swore to protect the innocent, but I haven't always been able to.

“Rose,  what's your situation” Jacob’s voice interrupts my thoughts. Too bad, orders are orders.

I smash the bottle against Brutus’ head and stab him in the neck. I take his gun and in few minutes the others are down.

Bang! A gun goes off behind me and I feel a sharp pain in my back. I turn and find Smoke standing, and I shoot him in the head.

I reach Smoke and pull the briefcase from the table. I clean his bloody thumb and unlock the box. The hard drive seats in the middle. I take it and close the box.

The room is sound proof and my team tech specialist Ajayi told me I would have 5 minutes from when I entered for him to disable the cctv.

“Ahh..” I hear a groan behind me and turn to shoot. Mr.Amaechi is holding his heading as he tries to sit up. I squeeze the cold metal of the gun, but I can't pull the trigger.

I tuck the hard drive into a strap around my thigh under my short gown. I see his black file bag on the floor and pick it up. I drag him up without wasting time. A pieecing pain in my back remind me of the bullet lodged somewhere in my spine.

“Give me your jacket” I say to him.  He hands it over quickly. I hope it would cover up the blood for as long as we need to get out of here.

“You weren't supposed to be here. There is another door that leads to the inner suits. You will pretend to be a client and we will slip out” I say quickly.

“What? I… I can't. Are you crazy? You just killed these people! Why should I trust you?” his eyes darts to the limp bodies on the floor.

I hold his chin firmly and turn his face back to me.

“You can trust me or walk into the club and die! Smoke has men surrounding this place, you think you would make it out alive?!” He shuts up which is good than him having a panic attack.

“Just follow my lead” he does so as we slip through the back door and past other VIP clients enjoying a private show. He covers his eyes with his hands. I keep our pace fast until we are out of the building.  I remove my black wig and dump it in a recycle bin.

“Where is your car?” I whisper to Amaechi.

“Outside the gate”. I feel like hitting him, of all the place to park.

“I wasn't supposed to be long” he says in defense reading my expression. We walk to the gate. I try to think of a way to keep them from chasing us if they think we're the suspects.

I turn to Mr.Amaechi and pull him in for a kiss. He tries to push me away. We are close enough for the guards to see us.

“Don’t be stupid” I warn him. I kiss him again and he pulls me closer to himself. For a moment I wished I wasn't trying to run for my life. He let me go and I hear the guards laughing at us, a cue that my plan worked.

I wrap my hands around Mr.Amaechi.

“Oga open gate. My client is not patient o”.

“We know” said one of them and the others burst into laughter.

The guards laughing suddenly stops. He places his hands to his ears. He is getting orders and his expression darkens.

I don't breathe for what seem like forever. Mr. Amaechi grips my waist. He is not helping right now,  but I can't tell him.

We can't wait around any longer. I start to walk towards the gate and they open up.

“Let the girl pass, after them lock the gate”. And we were out of Ace club. He ran and I followed, sprinting till we were out of breath.

“which one is your car?”

“The Ferrari” he point to the black car.

“The what?” I didn't expect someone like him would drive something so expensive let alone park it outside.

Once inside, he got the car into full speed.

He has good control of the car even at high speed.

“Stop” I said noticing Jacob standing by the SUV. I pull off his jacket and dump it in the back seat.

Mr. Amaechi noticed him too. “who are you people?” he asked. His pupils were still dilated from the rush. He will recover eventually.

“People you don't need to know Sir” I get out of the car and meet Colonel Jacobs.

Mr Amaechi’s Ferrari purrs to life again and he drives off.

“Hard drive?” he asks

“Yes" I pull it out of my thigh strap and give it to him.

“Who was that?” Jacob looks a me through slit eyes.

“My escape ride” I lie.

“You were told not to engage with too many people tonight”

“I didn't” I lie.

“Good. You should rest. Write a report, the General doesn't like waiting”

“After I get this bullet out”. I show him my back. He gets a first aid box out of the SUV and swiftly takes the bullet out.

"Agghh" I yell. My voice echoes through the empty road.

The muscles around the wound begin to contract like they do when the healing starts.

“At least this time you didn't jump off a building or crash into a trailer” Colonel Jacob says and shakes his head.

“Just because you can't die doesn't mean you should jump head first into danger” he says he closes the first aid box.

“Yes sir” I say, I didn't feel up for arguing tonight. We enter the SUV.

Ajayi sits inside working on his laptop as always.  “You did good as always no man left”. He says without looking up from the screen.

I freeze at his words. I remember Mr Amaechi saying he didn't think he would take long. I realize that Mr.Amaechi must have entered immediately after Ajayi messed with the cctv. Smoke’s real meeting had.been with Brutus.

“Yeah, I need a break as a reward”. I relax and laugh. They both join me

“Maybe we can go for a drink on Friday.” Jacob says and fixes his eyes on me.

“I don't want to”. Friday is Benjamin’s birthday.  He was my boyfriend. He died on a mission. Now Jacob thinks its his job to look after me.

“He wouldn't want you living this way. Like a shadow of yourself” I say nothing.

“He was my best friend too. But we have to move on” he stops talking after that. I fall asleep and i have a dream. In it I almost pull down a mask covering the face of the man who had pulled the bomb trigger that ended Ben’s life and the hostages

PROLOGUE

The gun went off and Umar Musa falls to the ground. A bullet in his head. The smile he wore few seconds ago has vanished. His body falls to the cold tiles. A fitting end for a cold man. I feel the surge of victory course through my veins and a sudden sharp pain in my chest.

“Medic! Medic!” I hear a husky male voice scream and then his voice seems to fade, but not before I heard the crunch of boots against the floor. I feel something hard hit me on the side. My vision gets blurry. I see Umar Musa's lifeless face again, but this time we are lying face to face. I realize I fell to the floor too. One of his bullets must have hit me. I am going to die.

TITLE: "FORLORN"

Episode 1

He stared at the darkness outside his window, the beating of his heart was almost a musical rhythm.

The reassurance of time set his heart at ease, Alec wondered if it was possible to buy time—he burst into a fit of laughter at his desperate thoughts.

He had been on an appointment with Dr.Johnson two months ago, but the discussion still felt very fresh to him.

"Alec, you need to take it easy on your body, the cancer it's growing and you need to comply for any treatments given to work!"

After he got his diagnosis about a year ago, Alec decided to live a little recklesslyy, but now he wondered if he had spent some of that time with his family instead.

He picked up his phone to call Emma, she told him never to speak to her again—he had been a horrible husband, but after three years he needed to hear her voice and see his son.

If she didn't want to see him maybe he could end it swiftly than live on borrowed time and pain.

The phone rang and a soft velvet voice came through it's speakers "Hello Alec, what do you want?"

"I'm sorry Emma, I just...." His voice broke.

FIGHT FOR YOUR DREAM

Men and women in suits looked at her, as she stood tensely in the middle of the room.
"Miss Morrison, you can begin now" the man at the farthest end of the table spoke.

She was in the board room of Tasti Inc and Alicia was there to pitch her business, WonderTaste, in a Pitchathalon to win a business grant and a year of consultation from these major players in the food industry.

The new eatery Oodun, on the same street as hers was, had attracted both her loyal and potential new customers.

Winning the Pitchathalon would give her the edge over Oodun.

As the breadwinner for her family following the passing of their parents, Alice was aware of how important the success of her business was, her sister's education depended on it.

She then took a deep breath before starting her pitch.

Alice spoke passionately about her love of food and how it led her to found WonderTaste, beginning with her early years when she first learned to cook for herself and her younger sister.

Her business wanted to give customers an experience instead of just a meal.

Every dish was served with a smile and a personal touch and was influenced by different cultures.

As Alice spoke, the board members nodded and took notes.

They interviewed twenty other contestants. Alice got more nervous as time passed.

When they finally announced the winner as WonderTaste she couldn't believe. All of Alice's effort had finally paid off.

For the next year, Alice followed every advised they gave on how to expand her business.

WonderTaste soon acquired two additional locations, a larger menu, and more personnel as a result. Even food critics praised the business.

Alice's younger sister Emery was able to graduate with honors and launch her teaching career.

Alice couldn't help smiling as she sat in her office surrounded by accolades and awards, proof that she had come a long way.

She always thanked her friend, Kikelomo for motivating her to compete in the Pitchathalon because she wouldn't be where she is today without her encouragement.

She also no longer had animosity toward Oodun because she now understood that everyone could find work in the food industry.

WonderTaste was more than just a business to Alice; it was a way of life.

TITLE: ANNA'S PLIGHT

“Many times we try to ignore the truth.
Even when it rings so loudly in our souls.”

KENOQUILL

Anna always had a dream to be married before twenty five, now she was twenty nine. She had hoped and searched in parties and dates for the one for her.

Two months ago her luck seemed to shine. There was a new Director of sales in the company she worked.

His name was James, he was tall, dark and perfect. She swooned when he spoke and he always liked her work.

He had asked her the day before if she wanted to grab lunch with him. Anna went with him, she was the envy of all the other ladies and she felt she was the star at work.

Two months turned into five and James finally invited her over to his house.

It was Saturday, and she had her little sister's graduation to attend. Anna picked up her phone and with regret in her heart she sent a message of apology to Harriet. "I can't make it. I'm sorry. Work came up".

Even as she sent her lies, she felt drained on the inside and it wasn't because she had lied, she lied to people almost everyday, she lied to her mother everytime she called.

Her mother always taught her about God and right living would probably die from shock if she ever found out. Anna rolled her eyes, it never did her any good to live like her mother.

She applied more lipstick to her already red lips. She looked at herself in the mirror and suddenly felt sick. She wanted to stay at home today.

But there was James, he was everything she needed, Anna couldn't bear to let him go. She would meet him today whether she felt like going out or not.

She drove with the directions he had given her. She was annoyed he hadn't picked her up himself, but he had explained he had a report to complete in the morning, and he had to make everything ready to entertain her.

" Hello James, I'm at your gate" Anna called him.

"Hello Beautiful, I'll be with you soon" His amazing voice came through the phone speaker.

She wanted those words to mean more. Anna smiled " I can't wait".

His house was practically a mansion. He had at least five cars parked. As he led her in , the house keepers smiled warmly as they greeted her.

The pit in her stomach was gone, replaced with awe. Whatever she had seen about him before was only a fraction of his wealth.

They talked about each other's week as he walked with her. He looked different wearing a white T-shirt on Jeans. She always saw him on a full suit.

"Make yourself comfortable" He said as he held her waist and guided her across the large parlour to the dining area.

"I made a feast just for you Anna" he brushed her cheeks and gave her a smile that revealed a set of dimples. It made her toes melt.

"Thank you James". As they sat to eat the delicacies that laid before them. James said "Grace" over the food.

Anna enjoyed herself beyond whatever she had imagined. That horrible feeling kept gnawing at her, she guessed she would need to apologize to her sister Harriet later.

James had a cinema room in his house. He had suggested they see a movie. It was interesting to watch, but between the dark room, and James holding her against his warmth, she just wanted to sleep.

"James can I take a little nap?"

He smiled at her "Sure babe" He planted a kiss on her forehead.

She was having the time of her life, but she couldn't shake off the sadness she felt deep inside, It was absurd.

As she drifted deeper, she thought for a moment that the sadness felt wasn't her own, like it was coming from someone who was there with her , someone who wasn't James but who deeply cared about her.

Anna shook it off, she enjoyed the way James stroked her back. In few moments she was entirely immersed in darkness.

When she woke up everything was cold. It was still dark the only light in the room were some candles. She was on a mat, not the sofa. To her horror, she noted she couldn't move although she wasn't tied.

"James" she called out softly. When there was no answer, she felt her lungs become constricted. "James!" She screamed this time, she was trying her best not to have a panic attack.

"I'm right here" his voice echoed in the darkness. He stalked towards her, in the candle light she could see his handsome face that always looked at her with serenity and affection was stony and distant.

"Don't be afraid Anna" he said as he stroked her hair. She felt cold where he touched her.

"You won't feel a thing. Or at least you won't feel all of it"

"I don't understand. James I need a doctor, I don't feel so good" her lips trembled as she spoke.

"I know. Now shhhh" he put a finger to his lips.

"Take me home James" Anna began to cry.
James bent over her and kissed her on her forehead. He found her right ear "I can't " he whispered into it.

He drew back and Anna felt a jab at the left side of her chest. She didn't know what was going on, something warm and liquid touched her face, it was not very thick. She could smell it though—it was blood.

She saw the knife in his hands finally with blood, her blood. She saw someone behind James, he was so bright she almost couldn't make out his face.

The man was crying. He was in agony, like his heart was breaking, feeling every pain she couldn't feel.

Anna realized she was dying. She had heard of people who prayed to God before they died to forgive them. She had been horrible as a person.

She held the shiny man's gaze, his eyes seemed to burn. She tried to reach out to him but she couldn't.

"Merc...." She tried to say Mercy, but she felt James' blade slice through her throat.

He turned her body over. Her neck was held over a bowl and she faced the reality of him. Before her an ugly stone god on an altar, as ugly as the real James.

The light from the man disappeared. She felt cold and the light in the room disappeared.

The darkness became dark ugly creatures, they seemed to yank her up, pulling her upright and she was staring down at her limp body.

She was dead, no one was coming to save her—she knew the people who held her were too cold, not like the man she had saw earlier. She knew she wasn't going to see the shiny man again. She was going to hell.

******

Here's a story of a woman who ignored all the warning signs. Many people have heard the word of God too many times to count.
Yet they do nothing to grab their copy of God's mercies.

Many people try to do life by themselves and they ignore the word of God that's meant to light up their path, to give them direction.

And like Anna many ignore the holyspirit when he tries to tell them about things.

You don't have be be in a life or death situation before you finally choose to listen to God. He speaks to you all the time.

According to Matthew.6.33 - "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

This scripture shows us that God knows what you need, he also knows its important for you to get some things in life. Whether it is getting married, money, children, promotion, etc.

But because of dangers both physically and spiritually, like the one Anna found herself; God needs you to seek him first.

So he can guide you, so he can keep you safe and most of all so you won't loose you soul to hell—instead you would be with him in heaven forever.

Dear reader, it is time to make a decision to live your life for God, do not wait for tomorrow — EVEN THE NEXT SECOND MIGHT BE TOO LATE.

CHAPTER 3(PART B)

As Marcus departs to relay Decimus' decision to Antigonus, Julia expresses her disappointment at his sudden departure. Phoebe observes the close bond between her children but worries about Marcus' growing hedonistic nature, contrasting with Julia's spirited yet pure-hearted disposition.

In a time where decency and purity seem to be disappearing, Decimus and Phoebe find themselves worried about what has become of their son, Marcus.
They long for him to settle down and find purpose, but Marcus seems to be absorbed in a self-centered and indulgent lifestyle, much like his aristocratic friends.
Decimus, concerned for the state of Rome, had hoped to convince Marcus to support a new order that could bring about much-needed changes. However, Marcus only seems interested in increasing the Valerian wealth and lacks any altruistic motivations for rebuilding Rome.

Decimus reflects on his own role in Marcus' fixation on money. Having spent his life building the Valerian fortune through various enterprises, Decimus recognizes that he has unknowingly instilled in Marcus a desire for wealth and power.
Marcus possesses a unique ability to see into men's souls and has proven himself shrewd and capable of making money. However, Decimus also sees a callousness in his son, as he manipulates and uses people to his advantage.

The relationship between Marcus and his younger sister, Julia, is strained as well. Julia yearns to attend the gladiatorial contests, but Marcus continually puts her off, knowing their mother would not approve. Julia tries to manipulate Marcus, pointing out that he takes Arria, a girl only slightly older than her, to these events. Marcus, however, finds no interest in the games or in marriage, deeming them both lacking in nobility and purpose.

Julia's heart raced as she processed her father's shocking revelation. He wanted Marcus, her beloved brother, to get married. The question burned on her lips, "To whom?" As she wasn't present when they discussed him marrying Arria.

But Marcus evaded her inquiry, not ready to disclose the truth just yet.

In the past, Marcus had once toyed with the idea of marrying Arria during the height of their fiery affair.

However, rationality had prevailed, silencing his intentions. Arria, with her captivating beauty and electrifying presence, had once enthralled him.

The mere thought of her had sent his blood racing, especially as they reveled in the violent spectacles of gladiator fights. But even Arria, with all her charms, had begun to bore him. There was an emptiness creeping into their once passionate relationship.

Julia continues to push her brother to take her to the gladiator games.

Marcus is concerned and doesn’t want to take her, but she blackmails him with the rumors of his affair with the wife of a senator named Patrobus.

Marcus eventually gives in to her, but not without noting her manipulative nature.

*******************************†**†***
Marcus and Julia can afford life's luxuries and they have very caring parents.

Yet they both have questionable tendencies and desires different from what their parents have in mind.

Keep reading future chapter summaries to find out what becomes of them.

CHAPTER 3 (PART A)

Decimus desperately tries to direct Marcus his son down the path he has chosen for him. However, Marcus, a strong-willed and independent young man, has his own ideas and ambitions that don't align with his father's.

He believes that his son, should secure a position of power in the new order of Rome. However, Marcus resists his father's pressure, refusing to involve himself in the political games that he considers corrupt and unreliable.
Marcus remains skeptical of politics and its treacherous nature. He has witnessed the untimely deaths of his friends, who were unjustly accused of treason and ordered to commit suicide.

Decimus, however, sees an opportunity for Marcus to find purpose and honor in serving the new emperor.

He entices his son with the promise of a seat in the senate and a place in the equestrian order, offering him a sense of belonging and legitimacy—despite their Ephesian blood.

But Marcus, torn between his own desires and his father's expectations, questions the worthiness of such a path.

Decimus, frustrated with Marcus's lack of ambition and desire for a simple life of enjoyment, urges him to pursue a political career or marry Arria.
Marcus, however, has his own plans for his life and refuses to be dictated to by his father's desires.

As the discussion between father and son comes to a head, Julia Marcus' sister magines Marcus as a senator, a grand image in her eyes.

But Marcus dismisses her whimsical thinking and instead suggests supporting Antigonus in politics, a man his father distrusts.

Decimus, initially dismissive of Antigonus, learns that his son has formed a close friendship with this aspiring politician.

Marcus reveals that Antigonus, with his influence over the emperor's son, Domitian, poses a threat to the established members of the senate.

Antigonus, however, finds himself in despair due to the rising costs of the extravagant games he sponsors, and Marcus suggests that his father could aid him financially.

Phoebe, Decimus' wife, expresses her concern about Marcus' involvement with Antigonus, as she believed him to be a friend.

Decimus, albeit wary, agrees to consider supporting Antigonus financially, intrigued by his son's audacity and understanding of politics.

As the family enjoys an opulent feast, an Egyptian slave girl presents a platter of delectable pork slices along with other slaves.

The Egyptian slave girl captures Marcus' attention with her meaningful gaze, but Phoebe discreetly dismisses her, aware of her son's amorous tendencies.

Sometimes you cannot stop things from happening,
Just like you can't stop the rain,
And you cannot stop your shivering from the cold;
Although you can find shelter
You could even put on a hoodie
Just to keep dry and warm.

Sometimes you cannot stop things from happening,
But you can do something to manage it when it does happen
There are things we can control and things we cannot
Focus on what you can control and the things you can fix.

LOST IN YOUR ARMS(by Kenoquill)

In the village of Ravensbrook, nestled amidst rolling hills and vibrant meadows, a sense of tranquility filled the air.

Life flowed steadily for its inhabitants, guided by the age-old wisdom passed down from generation to generation, led by village elders the people lived in unity and harmony.

The people of Ravensbrook valued virtues and good morals above anything in the world, they saw it as what has kept them in peace and prosperity.

Ethan, the only son of the village Head, a young man of twenty-three summers, was a dreamer with a restless heart.

From his childhood, he always loved to visit Arim a young travelling merchant from their village.

Arim always came back from his travels with new stories of ports and cities beyond their own.

Ethan hoped to one day sail across the Deep Sea with him.

His days were spent overseeing the large farm his family owned, but his mind never stopped yearning for excitement beyond the village's borders.

On a crisp autumn morning, a mysterious stranger arrived in Ravensbrook's market.
Her name was Rosalind, her presence exuding an air of intrigue, immediately drew attention from the villagers.

With a cascade of red urls and eyes the color of emeralds, she possessed a beauty that seemed ethereal, but it was her enchanting looks that truly captivated their hearts, it was her high spirit, and this also made some wary of her.

When Ethan first laid eyes on Rosalind in the market, his world tilted on its axis. She was breathtaking in her red dress and lightly jeweled neck.

He watched her hands dance around the bottle of spices she was bringing to her nose. When she sniffed one she had a look on her face, one of utter bliss.

He was to collect the payment for his father's rams he had sold to Tam the butcher.
Ethan did so quickly and followed this mysterious woman as she made her way into the village.

As Rosalind weaved her way through the village she sang, her voice carried like a lilting melody, charming all who crossed her path.
Her voice was rich and was velvety to Ethan's hearing

They had gotten to the Village's central well when he was bold enough to speak
"Hello there" he said and she turned to him
There was a brief twinkle in her eyes and she gave him a half smile

It was enough to make his heart melt
"Well, hello to you too..."

"I see you are not from around here" he continued trying his best not to make a full of himself

"And who are you to know that, if I may ask" she said but it almost sounded like a calculated purr of a cat.

"I am Ethan, Son of Hermun the Village head, and I've known almost everyone since I was a child and I would know a new face when I saw one"

He smiled at her and luckily for him, she smiled back
"Ok then Ethan, I guess you could help me I. Getting to know about Ravenbrook, and maybe it's because I look so different no one has offered to do so"

Ethan scratched behind his neck "They aren't usually like this, the people here a very kind and they will warm up to you...soon" he eyed her jeweled neck and her bright colored dress, which showed off a lot of her chest, girls he had grown up with wore clothes that covered them more than this lady's did.

He knew she was different but it intrigued him
"I'll tell you about Ravenbrook, if you tell me about you and where you are from"
He grinned at her.

"Fine...My name is Rosalind" she turned and kept walking towards the path she had been walking towards and Ethan followed
Every evening since that they after Ethan was done at the farms, he met her at the well.
They got to know more of one another and as the days went on Ethan found himself more drawn in by this strange lady.

She spoke of distant lands, tales of adventure, and dreams too grand to be contained within Ravensbrook's modest boundaries. Ethan, a captive audience, found himself drawn deeper.

Whispers of circulated among the villagers, for they recognized Ethan slowly change from his cheerful self with everyone to them seeing less of him, and that it began in Rosalind's wake.

Some of the village elders tried to caution Ethan and Spoke to his Father about what they had observed.

His father decided to talk to Ethan one day
"Son, our lives may feel confined to you, but it has kept the peace within our walls and with other villages, and when I am gone the people will have you to look up to, to maintain the peace"

"Father, if you are speaking of learning our ways and tending to our farms and animals, I am doing that" Ethan argued, his features darkened.

"I am speaking of Rosalind, you will see her no more, focus on the work before you son, there are many other women even beyond Ravensbrook, but not that one"

"But why father?!" Ethan stood on his feet and started down at his father, his nose flared.

"Because she is Arim's bride!... he brought her home from a far country on one of his travels—he spent a month with her and left on one of his travels again...."

"That's a lie, no one heard of the marriage and no one held a party on their return" Ethan held his father's gaze, but Hermun only stared at his son with a look of pitiful sorrow in his eyes
"Son you need to understand.....she seems like trouble, and even his family disapproved so no one speaks of her."

" She doesn't live at Arim's house, I know this place like the palm of my hands father!..its just people spewing nonsense" when Hermun didn't give an answer, Ethan felt frustrating squeeze his gut

"I will ask her myself"

Ethan stormed out of his father's house that night and made his way to Rosalind's house, she had shown him the way to get there some days ago, he had seen no sign of a man, what his father had said must have been a concocted story to change his heart.

He had to ask her for himself, to hear her say it to him, after all these months he was sure she would have told him if she was married.

As he neared the house, he heard her sing, entranced by Rosalind's siren voice, he brushed aside the voice of his father’s concerns.

He told himself that he knew Arim's house and this wasn't it

"Hello Rosalind " he called out
She came out and smiled at him
Rosalind led Ethan into her house a secluded cottage nestled deep within the whispering woods, away from prying eyes.

They both sat at her table, with a basket of fruit in front of him, he stared at her hands as she picked an apple and brought them to her full lips.

When she was done with the apple, she turned her attention to Ethan seated quietly in the corner.

“Ethan, did you come all the way to be quiet?” she smiled at him

“Are you married to Arim?” Ethan asked, his palm sweaty

Her smile fell “No I am not married to any man?!”

She stood and walked away from him and he followed standing behind Rosalind
“Ever since I moved here, people have had one story or another about me…but I didn’t expect you to believe them”

She turned to Ethan and looked in his eye, he saw the pain there, the pain he had caused
“My family died in a fire, I lost everything including the house, it sat atop my father’s spices shop and all I left with we’re clothes, these clothes from my friends”

She swallowed “I couldn’t stay there, it was too hard…too painful, I wanted to start afresh somewhere quiet”

Ethan pulled her into a hug
“I’m sorry….I'm sorry” he kept saying in her ear, as his hands ran along her back soothing her as she sobbed.

She moved out of his embrace a little and looked into his beautiful blue eyes

“You were the only one that made me feel welcomed” she sniffed and Ethan raised a finger to brush away little teardrops that fell from her eyes.

Rosalind looked so vulnerable, so broken and alone; Ethan felt the need to protect this woman with all that he had.

He leaned in and kissed her on the cheek and then on her lips and she held onto him tightly
As the night wore on within her cottage, their desires intertwined like thorny vines, their hearts shrouded in a cloak of secrecy. The cottage became their sanctuary, a den of darkness where the rules of morality were discarded, and the intoxicating blend of love and lust reigned supreme.

When it was over, in the shadows doubts began to gnaw at Ethan's conscience, he questioned if he had done the right thing.

The flickering candlelight revealed the consequences of his actions, Rosalind laid asleep by his side, naked.

He loved her and Ethan believed it was enough to fight for what they had begun. He slipped out and made his way home before dawn while she still slept.

Weeks rolled by and he kept coming back to her, the intoxicating thrall of their affair kept him shackled, and he pushed aside the lingering guilt, choosing to live in the ephemeral bliss that Rosalind's presence provided.

He went back to her day after day, and spoke no more of her to his father, it seemed for a while that all the dust had settled.

Ethan spent less time in the fields and with the villagers. He stopped eating dinner with his father.

His heart hand wandered away from the things he once deeply cared for.
Time wore on, eroding the façade of bliss that Ethan had meticulously constructed.

Rosalind's charms, once irresistible, began to fade, revealing the hollow nature of their liaison. Doubt clawed at Ethan's heart, and he yearned for the simplicity of the life he had forsaken. In the depths of his soul, his father’s warnings resurfaced.

Ethan decided to spend time in the fields with his father’s workers and tend to the animals.
Some nights he didn’t leave the farm and for three days he didn’t go to Rosalind, he felt he needed to find a missing part of himself. He loved her deeply but he still felt incomplete, more lost than he had ever been.

Tessa an older woman who sold grains in Ravenbrook and other villages, drew him aside on a day he passed by her stall on his way to collect payment from Tam the butcher.

"How have you been Ethan"

"I am good Tessa" he gave her a kiss on the cheek

"Your father must be so proud to have you as a son" she chuckled

“You flatter me Tessa as always” he grinned at her

“Its true, you are a dutiful son, this village will be blessed by the heavens to have you be its head someday”

Ethan didn’t feel so sure about that.
"I have some exotic spices coming in tomorrow..." She said interrupting his train of thought.

"That's amazing, maybe I'll get some for father to make goat stew"

"Yes, you should, Arim always brings the best stuff home, he's our best merchant"
Ethan didn’t know why he stiffened at his name
“Arim is back?”

“Yes Ethan, he returned two days back with so many goods and he couldn’t stop talking about going home to his new bride”

“New bride?” Ethan felt the earth under him move, he felt like throwing up his breakfast
"That wife of his, she is a flighty beautiful thing…I would run home to her if I were Arim" she continued

"He has a wife? Who is she" Ethan felt his palms become sweaty, he prayed, hoped it wasn't Rosalind

"Oh that new friend of yours I see you with every evening...i thought you would know"
"No" He shook his head

" No?...well Arim did say she wanted to move to another house, she didn’t like the old one he lived in…she is quite different..." Tessa chuckled and kept talking but Ethan didn't hear the rest.

“Why did no one say anything or throw some celebration?” he felt angry at himself, everything, everyone.

He was trying even his breath
“well it’s obvious to every eye that she’s not very tame..and we would rather avoid the gossip” Tessa eyed Ethan.

“Arim's taste for exotic things, the bizzare and exploring also affected his choice for a wife, something's going to go amiss soon” she clucked her tongue.

“He's so old and she’s so young…what was he thinking” she said more to herself than Ethan
"Save some spices for me Tessa" he said in a low voice he gave her a small smile and turned to go.

He stumbled through the market and found his way home. He tried his best not to throw up his lunch, he felt sick, sick with guilt.
He had pretended it was nothing for so long, but by tomorrow there was no more hiding from the consequences of his wandering heart, he had wandered so far till he became lost in her arms.

The defining moment arrived, shattering the fragile illusion Ethan had clung to.

The consequences of his actions unfolded before his eyes, leaving him hollow and disillusioned. With a heavy heart, he finally recognized the magnitude of his mistakes, and the weight of his remorse threatened to consume him.

In the depths of despair, Ethan sought solace in the embrace of his father. He searched for him, Hermun sat in front of the hearth starting into the fire.

"Father I need your help"

"I know" hermun answered, simply without looking at his son.

"I went to her and I did something wrong, and I kept going back, I couldn't stop"
"I know" Hermun answered, still staring into the fire

"Are you even going to look at me!...say something that is not 'I know'..." Ethan was breathing hard
His father stood from his chair and walked slowly towards his son, he held him in an embrace.

"I knew that day you came home, it was in your eyes....i waited for you to come to me" Ethan broke down and sobbed like a baby
"I should have listened to you father"
He wailed until he had no more strength and his father held him still.

Hermun held his son, his heart broken but full of love for Ethan, he had promised Mirsa his wife on her deathbed to raise and protect their son, with everything.
He planned to do just that.

The next day Hermun called Arim to his home. Arim felt it a great honor and shared with Ethan’s father his experience on his travels.
They shared a drink and a meal, and Hermun shared with him what had happened while he was away.

Arim was full of fury but he admitted that he knew of his wife's promiscuous ways, he had found out after he married her.

Her family had indeed perished, but she had been that way before he married her, but he loved her enough to give her a fresh start.
“What will be done about her ways Arim…she did lie to Ethan”

“And your Son did not also heed your warnings”
Both men stared at one another.

A compromise needed to be reached and they both knew it.

Arim was much younger than Hermun, he should show more respect, but Arim felt wounded even though he knew most of it was Rosalind's fault for leading Ethan on, but it didn’t excuse him either.

“I will speak to her, If she does something like this or even show any sign of misbehavior, we will move to another village “

Arim continued "Ravenbrooks has been my home, no matter my travels, it’d be a shame to leave…I want it to be hers too”

“We would not want to loose you or her Arim” Hermun responded understanding the man’s pain and the decision he might have to make if she didn’t change.

He left with a bow to Hermun, and a promise not to harm Ethan.

As he stepped out of their home, Arim met Ethan at the doorway kneeling, his head to the ground at his feet and in tears
“Ethan, rise” Arim's hands rested on his shoulders
“I don’t deserve your mercy, you should tell everyone and punish me”
“To what end boy?, it would shame my family too….I do wish you harm, but heavens help me “
Ethan raised his head to meet Arim's sad but smiling face
“In my travels I’ve seem many thing more shocking than her affair, and I risked a lot bringing her home…I loved her too much, I still do ”

Ethan understood how Arim felt all too well. Rosalind was like new wine to a thirsty man, she brought life to him, and with it devastation.
Arim left for his house to settle things with Rosalind.

Herman looked at his son glowing in the morning sunlight, he looked lighter, a burden lifted. He understood Ethan had a lot more training ahead of him to fill in his shoes, but he knew at heart Ethan was a true and caring leader their village needed.

As Ethan embarked on the arduous journey of self-discovery, he began talking with the people of Ravenbrook like he used to and the village enveloped him in a blanket of compassion.

Through his father’s unwavering support, he learned that it was never too late to reclaim one's path and rebuild a life shattered by regret.

Ethan emerged from the depths of darkness, a transformed man. The scars of his past became badges of humility and strength, reminding him of the dangers that lay in the pursuit of forbidden desires. With newfound wisdom, he set out to rebuild his life, to mend the broken relationships that had suffered in his time with Rosalind.

And when Hermun was laid to rest many years later, Ethan had found for himself a beautiful wife and he became a great leader expanding the village, just like Tessa and Hermun foresaw.

As the excitement and adrenaline course through Atretes, visions of winged beasts and fierce battles fill his mind. The sweet scent of the incense intoxicates him, transporting him to a realm where mortal combat and spiritual transcendence merge into one.

As the new chieftain, Atretes is faced with a difficult and heart-wrenching task: executing his oldest friend, Wagast, for the crime of cowardice. Set in a time of war between the German tribes and the Roman legions, Atretes is forced to make a decision that goes against his own loyalty and sense of honor.

As Wagast pleads desperately for his life, Atretes recalls the moment when he witnessed his own father's demise, a memory that fuels his anger towards Wagast's perceived betrayal. Despite Wagast's claims that his shield was knocked from his hands during battle, the other tribesmen and elders dismiss his words, declaring that his death is the only acceptable punishment.

Atretes srikes Wagast with his fist and throws him into a treacherous bog, condemning him to a slow and agonizing demise. The men stand in silence, understanding the heavy weight of shame and dishonor that accompanies death in the morass.

Atretes decides to take his men back into battle against the Romans and there he meets Severus Albanus Majorian, a seasoned commander who has faced the German tribes before. As the battle rages on, Severus is both shocked and impressed by the ferocity of the German warriors. Determined to end the continuous attacks, Severus devises a plan to eliminate the leader of the tribes, Atretes.

Severus leads his cavalry into battle, aiming to capture or kill Atretes, who proves himself to be a formidable opponent.

Atretes finds himself surrounded by a group of Roman soldiers. He fights desperately, not willing to go down without a fight. Atretes's tenacity and skill allow him to dispatch several soldiers, but he is ultimately cornered and looses consciousness after being hit on the head by a roman soldier.

Atretes awakes and his senses are overwhelmed by the stench of blood and urine, a stark contrast to the familiar scents of the forest. As he struggles to rise, the rattling of chains sends waves of pain through his throbbing head, bringing him face to face with the harsh reality of his defeat.

Atretes reflects on his mother's prophecy, which promised him an undefeated life. Yet, here he lies, chained to a slab of wood, awaiting an unknown fate. He laments his failure, both to his people and to himself, as he recalls the pledge they made to die as free men rather than submit to Roman dominion. The humiliation of captivity weighs heavily on his spirit, as he has always believed that death would come to him on the battlefield.

As Atretes tries to assess his surroundings, he realizes he is confined to a small room made of thick logs. Harsh sunlight seeps through a high window, causing him to squint in pain. He feels the restraints cutting into his wrists and ankles, the chains a reminder of his powerlessness.

Two men enter the room, seemingly unaffected by Atretes' defiance. One is a high-ranking officer, adorned in magnificent armor and a scarlet cloak, while the other is a wealthy merchant wearing fine garments. Severus, the officer, smirks down at the young warrior, pleased to see him conscious and defiant. He reveals that his men wish to flog and crucify Atretes, but he has other, more profitable plans for him.

Severus introduces Atretes to Malcenas, the merchant, who becomes transfixed by the young warrior's appearance, despite his initial aversion to Atretes' growls and odor. Severus taunts Malcenas, knowing the captive's allure will captivate the Roman women and even some men. Malcenas, despite his fear, is excited by the danger Atretes poses, unable to tear his gaze away from the fierce blue eyes. However, he attempts to negotiate a lower price, receiving a firm refusal from Severus, who knows Atretes' true worth.

As the discussion turns to Atretes' fate, Severus recounts the warrior's impressive skills in battle, his ability to dispatch numerous legionnaires with ease. Atretes' strength and defiance make him a lucrative asset in the gladiatorial arena. Malcenas cannot resist the allure of owning such a specimen, despite his reservations about the price.

Severus suggests showing Malcenas others of inferior quality, but he is swiftly dismissed. Malcenas resolves to seal the deal for Atretes and promises that the funds will be transferred upon his return to Rome. A man named Quintus enters the room and is tasked with ensuring Atretes' wounds are tended to during their journey to the ludus, where gladiators are trained.

Do you think Atretes should have gone back to get revenge for his father's death?? Or do you think he should have taken his people and run away as far as possible

PART II
Chapter 2

We are transported to the heart of the Germanic tribes' battle against the might of the Roman legion in the dramatic setting of Germania. Atretes takes center stage as he raises his hand high, a signal to his father and fellow warriors that the Roman legion is approaching their hiding place in the clearing. The German warriors, armed with the dreaded framea - a spear feared by the Romans for its razor-sharp head and accuracy - wait with bated breath.

When the moment is right, Atretes brings his hand down, igniting the war cry that echoes across the horizon as the Bructeri and Batavi tribes, led by their revered leader Marcobus, join in. The terrifying sound reverberates like a roar from the depths of the underworld, causing the Roman legionnaires to lose their rhythm and their composure. Seizing this advantage, the tribesmen charge down the hillsides, surprising and confusing the Romans who struggle to form their defense.

Amidst the chaos and the ferocious screams of the tribesmen, the Romans can barely hear their commanders instructing them to form the tortoise formation, their only hope against the barbarians. However, the sight of the fierce and nearly naked warriors with their spears is enough to break the legion's ranks temporarily, giving the tribesmen a much-needed edge. The framea fly through the air, sending legionnaires crashing to the ground, while Atretes' father, Hermun, leads the charge of the wedge formation, his chieftain's helmet glistening with determination.

As the battle ensues, Atretes, driven by his war cry and warrior instinct, throws his framea with deadly accuracy, taking down a Roman tribune. He unleashes his skills in close combat, breaking backs and thrusting spears through soldiers.

With a sudden snap, Atretes' spear breaks as he thrusts it through the armor of a centurion. Swearing to the war god, Tiwaz, he must rely on his shield and the dead centurion's short sword, or gladius, to fend off the blows of other Romans. Unaccustomed to fighting with a short sword, he realizes that he must retreat before he is overcome by their superior training and discipline. The initial panic of the Roman legion is replaced by the mounting authority of their officers and the relentless closing of their ranks.

In the midst of the tumultuous battle, Atretes witnesses his brother, Varus, fall. With every ounce of strength, he amputates a Roman soldier's arm, fighting off another centurion with resilience. As the battle intensifies, Atretes' father warns him to watch his back just in time for him to evade an attack, while his Father is killed.

Atretes fights desperately to protect his clan and avenge the death of his father, the chieftain. With every swing of his sword and every life taken, Atretes displays his unwavering determination and loyalty.

As the Roman soldiers dominate the battlefield, Atretes finds himself torn between his instinct to fight until his last breath and the need to prioritize the safety of his surviving clan members. The intensity of the battle is palpable as the German forces suffer heavy casualties and are forced to retreat, leaving Atretes grappling with a mixture of grief, anger, and a burning desire for vengeance but is forced to retreat.

When they return Atretes encounters his sister, Marta, desperately tending to her wounded husband, and his unconscious brother. Atretes's unwavering loyalty to his family shines through as he carries their father's lifeless body, his own strength waning with every step. The weight of leadership now falls upon Atretes's shoulders, as the prophecies he once believed in begin to crumble, and the dream of freedom slips further away.

Vespasian, Rome's emperor had come to power after a series of events that saw three emperors fall. Now, his youngest son, Domitian, is leading eight legions against the rebel forces of Julius Civilis who is aiding the Germanic tribe rebellion.

Despite the ominous prophecy of a seer named Veleda, who predicted that Domitian's youth would be his downfall, the young ruler stands at the forefront of the battle, determined to prove himself as capable as his father and brother. And succeed he does. Domitian not only defeats the rebel forces but also orders their leaders to be crucified, demonstrating his ruthless determination to maintain control.
Atretes, is filled with anger and grief as he mourns the loss of his father and contemplates his own role in the tribe. His mother, a revered seer, believes that Atretes is destined to become the tribe's chieftain. Reluctant to take on the burden of leadership, Atretes questions whether he is truly capable of fulfilling this prophecy.

As the Roman forces march north and tensions rise, Atretes grapples with his own desires for freedom, the influence of his tribe's gods, and the impending storm that will inevitably engulf the entire Empire. His mother's prophetic vision only raises more questions, suggesting that Atretes will play a crucial role in the upcoming destruction of Rome.
As he stands amidst the glowing embers of the death house where his father’s remains were laid to be burnt, his mother spoke to him "You must rest, Atretes. You must be ready for what is ahead."

The weight of leadership falls upon Atretes as the council looks to him for guidance. The task at hand is not an easy one - passing judgment on a deserter, Wagast. Though Atretes knows what must be done, the burden of such a decision weighs heavily on his soul. As the men gather in the oak grove, the air grows cool and the sound of nature seems to add an eerie backdrop to the tense moment.

As the sacred oak comes to life, with the priest unwrapping and holding high the golden horns adorned with graven symbols, Atretes finds himself drawn deeper into the ancient rituals and customs of his clan. The priest's pale blue eyes meet his, and Atretes can feel his heart pounding with anticipation. The moment of reckoning is upon him.

With the cheers of the men and their raised spears confirming his destiny, Atretes finds himself touching the sacred horns, thereby declaring himself the new high chieftain.

Symbolically offering his own blood, Atretes solidifies his commitment and loyalty to his newfound position. The incense explodes in vivid colors, enveloping the men in a mixture of fear and awe. The sacred knives cut into their flesh, their blood mingling with Atretes' own, as they bestow their blessings upon him.

Together, they grapple with the question of God's will, wondering why they must suffer while others thrive.

As the siege wears on, the Jewish resistance remains unyielding, fueling a glimmer of hope within their hearts. Despite the despair and devastation, Hadassah clings to her faith, offering solace to her younger sister Leah amidst the chaos.

The city plunges into darkness as a starving woman's unthinkable act of eating their children sends shockwaves of Roman hatred throughout the streets. Josephus, a figure of authority, asserts that God is using the Romans as instruments of destruction, fulfilling ancient prophecies. The Jews, fueled by desperation, set their own temple ablaze, sacrificing their most sacred place to inflict damage upon the Romans. Yet, the Romans regain control, extinguishing the fire and prompting a brutal retaliation. The temple falls into the hands of the Romans, who set it alight once again, mercilessly slaughtering every person they encounter.

As death and destruction surround her, Hadassah grapples with her own survival and the fate of her loved ones. She witnesses her mother's passing on a scorching August day, knowing that she and her siblings are next in line for destruction. Fear grips her as the Roman soldiers draw closer, cruelly extinguishing any semblance of life they encounter, including that of her brother.

In a moment of unexpected mercy, Tertius, a Roman soldier, hesitates when faced with the two girls. Haunted by the atrocities he has witnessed and committed during his time in Judea, something about Hadassah's eyes touches him, temporarily numbing his desire for violence.

As they make their way through the city, Tertius and the girls are confronted with the horrifying aftermath of the violence and destruction. Dead bodies, both slain by Roman soldiers and victims of starvation, litter the streets, their decaying state causing Hadassah, the older girl, to feel faint.

Finally, they arrive at the Women's Court, where thousands of survivors have gathered. Gaunt, weak, and hopeless, the survivors moan and wail for their lost loved ones. Tertius releases the dying child from his shoulder, leaving Hadassah to care for her sister. The soldier walks away, leaving the girls to face the harsh realities of their new and uncertain reality.

In the midst of the turmoil, Hadassah manages to protect her sister Leah and find a safer spot by the wall, close to a Levite. They hold on to each other for warmth as the sun sets and darkness engulfs them. However, tragedy strikes in the morning as Leah is found dead.

Despite her pain and despair, Hadassah clings onto her sister's lifeless body, refusing to let go. A Roman soldier callously tries to take Leah away, but Hadassah resists, only to be struck and kicked aside by the soldier. Helplessly, she watches as her sister's fragile body is callously thrown onto a heap of other corpses.

Filled with grief, Hadassah remains devastated and weeps uncontrollably, her body ravaged with pain.

The Romans provide food for the captives, but those who rebel against Roman rule are denied sustenance. Hadassah, weak and sick, is among those who receive no food.

Eventually, soldiers approach the captives and order them to line up for rations of wheat and barley. Hadassah, weak and certain she would once again be denied food, rises and joins the long line. Tears blur her vision as she cups her hands, waiting for disappointment. But to her astonishment, golden kernels spill into her palms. It is a miraculous provision that reminds her of her mother's words: "The Lord will provide."

Acknowledging this act of divine sustenance, Hadassah expresses her gratitude to the young soldier, unaware he was the soldier who had killed her brother and brought her out of Jerusalem.

As she moves away, she fails to notice that the soldier's attention remains fixed on her. He continues to distribute corn without taking his gaze away.

With her faith rekindled and a renewed sense of purpose, Hadassah embraces the warmth of the night, the satisfaction of having eaten, and the certainty that she will continue to live. Through moments of despair and doubt, she realizes that God's presence remains close by, guiding her through the darkness. As she reflects on her own insignificance amidst the vastness of the universe, she finds hope and consolation in the knowledge that she is not alone, and her faith will sustain her through the trials ahead.

Do you think Hadassah's story will get better or do you think it will get worse??

PART I

Chapter 1

In the scorching heat of Jerusalem, a city plagued by death and decay, the Romans, led by Titus, are ready to conquer and destroy. The city, torn apart by warring factions, has already witnessed the murder of prominent citizens and the desecration of the holy temple.

As the Romans siege the city, devastation and despair grip Jerusalem. Hadassah, holding her malnourished mother, remembers a once-beautiful woman now reduced to a shell of her former self. With starvation and anarchy taking their toll, Jerusalem's fate hangs in the balance.

Hadassah, is a young girl caught in the midst of the turmoil and suffering of Jerusalem. As she waits anxiously by her mother's side, the pain in her empty belly serves as a constant reminder of their dire circumstances.

Having already scrounged for scraps of food, which consisted of little more than the shield leather off a dead Roman soldier, Hadassah grapples with the question of how much longer they can endure.

Haunted by her father's words, spoken only weeks prior, she remembers his unwavering resolve even in the face of imminent danger. Hananiah, her brave and devoted father, would venture out to speak to the unbelievers about the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. Although Hadassah pleaded with him to stay, knowing the grave dangers that awaited him, Hananiah believed it was their duty to seize every opportunity to share the truth and promote peace, especially in these desperate times.

However, Hadassah's worst fears became a reality when her father did not return. Gripped by desperation and fear, she clings to her mother, fearing she will lose her too.

Hadassah reflects on the better times and longs for their return. She recalls their journey to Jerusalem from Galilee, never expecting to become trapped in a city filled with suffering and despair. Her father, before they entered the city, shared stories of their heritage and faith, speaking of the laws of Moses and the prophets. He spoke passionately of Yeshua, the Christ, leaving a lasting impression on Hadassah's young and impressionable mind.

The annual pilgrimage to Jerusalem holds great significance for Hadassah's family. They gather with other believers in an upper room to share in a Passover meal, a poignant reenactment of the Last Supper. It is during this time that Hadassah's father, Shimeon Baronijah, retells his own personal story to those new to the faith.

Born into a modest family, Shimeon had followed in his father's footsteps as a merchant near Jerusalem. However, tragedy struck when he was just fourteen as his father passed away, leaving him to take over the family business. Times were tough, and Shimeon found himself young and inexperienced in the harsh world of commerce. But through his unwavering faith, he managed to provide for himself and his mother.

Yet, his struggles did not end there. As he fell ill with a fever, Shimeon found himself on the verge of death. Desperate pleas to God filled his thoughts, as he prayed for strength and healing. His mother's weeping and cries intertwined with his prayers, as he begged for his life, knowing that his mother depended on him. However, despite his pleas, death ultimately overcame him, enveloping him in a cold darkness.
Then Jesus stopped his funeral procession and touched Hananiah, resulting in his miraculous resurrection.

However, outside the safety of the upper room, Hadassah's fear resurfaces. She dreads her father's public speaking engagements where he shares his story of resurrection with believers and nonbelievers alike. While believers rejoice at the testimony, unbelievers ridicule and mock Hananiah. Hadassah witnesses the abuse her father endures and feels the euphoria and security she once felt among fellow believers dissolve.

Two friends, Elkanah and Benaiah, advise Hananiah to leave Jerusalem and find a place where his message will be better received, but he remains steadfast in his belief that Jerusalem is where the Lord wants him to be. Hadassah's hope of leaving the city is shattered, and she struggles with her faith, praying that her father will be sent to a place where people will listen and not harm him.

Haunted by her father's teachings and his unwavering commitment to spreading the truth, Hadassah finds herself questioning her own faith. She wonders why her father had to die for his beliefs and why she must face the same fate. In the midst of her grief and anger, she longs for the safety of her home and the guidance of her father.

As she searches for answers and comfort, Hadassah is met with more heartbreak and despair. Her brother, Mark, returns from a desperate search for food empty-handed, crushed by the weight of their circumstances.

ALICE IN WONDERTASTE

Men and women suits looked at her, as she stood tensely in the middle of the room.

Literature / Are You Like John?? by Kenoquill: 8:55pm On Jun 22, 2023
John had attended church his entire life. Every Sunday, he attended, sat in the same pew, sang every song, and attended the sermons. However, something in his life just wasn't right. He had no meaningful relationships, a pointless job, or any sense of direction.

He made the decision one day to discuss it with the pastor. He questioned, "Why isn't God blessing me? I attend church, pray, and pay my tithes, but nothing changes. ".

After patiently listening, the pastor asked, "John, you've been coming to church for years, but have you been working the Word? Have you been applying the principles of the Bible to your life?".

John shook his head in disbelief. He acknowledged, "I guess I haven't really thought about it that way.".

The pastor revealed Philippians 2:12 to John after taking a Bible out of his bag. "It says here work out your own salvation with fear and trembling," he said. That means it's up to you to put God's Word to use in your life by applying it. ".

John was inspired and challenged as he left the pastor's office. He didn't just listen to sermons on Sundays; he also began reading the Bible on his own. He started to intentionally pray and look for opportunities to help others. He even started going to Bible studies and small group gatherings.

John's life began to alter gradually but surely. Where he had previously only seen dead ends, he now saw opportunities. He received a promotion at work and was able to forge closer relationships with others.

Even more, he began giving his time to a neighborhood charity that provided aid to those in need.

John once marveled at how many blessings God had bestowed upon him as he reflected on his life.

He understood that the reason wasn't just that he attended church or paid his tithes, but also that he had accepted responsibility for applying the Word of God to his own life. The Word was working for him as a result of his work with it.

John was filled with thanks and joy as he sat in church on Sunday. He was conscious of his place in God's plan for his life and the impact he was having on those around him. John had learned the true meaning of a victorious life as a result of his willingness to work the Word.

HOW I LOST MY LIFE SAVINGS

I always felt uncomfortable on wet beds, tonight I didn't care as I lay on my bed, which was soaked with my tears.

Just two hours ago, my life savings were lost. What made it so painful was not that I lost the money, but rather that I could have prevented it if only I had listened to God.

I invested my savings in a cryptocurrency expecting a high return after learning from my friend Femi a week ago about a cryptocurrency that was certain to rise.

Naturally, I trusted him because he was more experienced in it than I was.

Until yesterday everything he had told me had helped me make lots of profit.

But two days ago I felt that I should to invest in a cryptocurrency that wasn't doing so well while I was watching the market.

I ignored it because I thought it was so ridiculous. Even Justus my Flatmate told me over dinner "o boy, you sure say this update when Femi give you pure?"

Justus knew I was staking all I had and he was worried about me loosing it all.

I climbed aboard the other ship, just like Jonah, and did as Femi suggested.

I lost track of the Holy Spirit's leading as I became preoccupied with watching the market.

The pressure to pay my bills was real.

I spent less time in prayer and fellowship with God, and relied more on my own abilities and knowledge.

My mother's voice was all I heard during that week.

"Tolu, your sister has still not been able to pay her acceptance fee; are you certain she won't have to forfeit her admission?".

After three years of applying for admission and failing, I couldn't let Tolani go through that once more.

"Tolu, I just called to remind you that your house rent expires next month; pay up or leave" my Landlord said last week.

Other bills also needed to be sorted out, and the salary from my current job would not be enough

I felt like I was drowning in my many worries, and the profit from trading the cryptocurrency Femi showed me appeared to be the only way out.

And now I've lost everything—my last chance, and Tolani's future.

The money I invest fell from hundreds of thousands of naira to just fifteen thousand naira!

I then thought of Jonah's words.
"When all hope was gone, I once more focused my thoughts on the LORD. And I prayed fervently to you in your revered Temple. "

I sobbed in pain, "God help me, I have nowhere else to go, have mercy on me."

I prayed before dozing off.

The following morning, I saw a message from Femi when I woke up. I quickly swiped it away in anger and continued with my morning devotion.

I heard, "Listen to him," but I didn't want to believe it was from God because I had gotten into trouble before for following Femi's advice.

When I opened Femi's text, I noticed a link that I clicked, which led to a job posting in a company. Since I was qualified for the position, I applied.

I tried to gather myself, but it was still difficult to move on and forget the losses. I wondered how I would start over.

The job offer felt like a ray of sunshine in my dark world.

I waited a week before the company I had applied to sent me a letter of confirmation, and then I was given the job.

After spending more time with God, I realized that the salary was sufficient to cover Tolani's acceptance fee as well as other investments I had been told by God to make.

In addition to giving me another chance out of His great mercy, God also gave me the tools I needed to start over.

No matter how far you have strayed from God and no matter how many chances you have missed, I pray that God's mercy and grace will find you and grant you a second chance. This is my prayer for anyone reading my story.

Frances read the words written behind her journal once again on the drive to her new place of work

She recalled a few weeks ago when she got the letter from the head office of the company she worked for, to inform her of her transfer and promotion

Frances had always done well as a Personal assistant to her previous bosses over the years

"I don't think I'm fit for this job" she had told her friend Agnes

"You won't know unless you tried Frances, and if they picked you, then they must see in you the potential to become a leader" Agnes said as she held firmly Frances' shaky hands

"Maybe you are right" Frances hands stopped shaking and she felt the tension in her neck ease

Now she was on her way to the head office at Ikoyi.

"We have arrived at your destination ma'am" the bolt drive said bringing her back to the present

"Oh, thank you" Frances replied, she made her payments and made her way to the reception, where she informed the receptionist of her reason for being there

Few minutes of sitting in the lobby, the HR came for her, and took her to the manager

"Hello Frances, it's wonderful to have you on our Team" said Mr.Ayodele the Manager, he had a firm handshake and a soothing smile that was enhanced by his fair complexion.

Frances was introduced to the Public Relations team that she would be heading

"Hello everyone, This is Frances Johnson and she is the new head of the PR team"

A round of applause roared through the room, Frances looked at the faces of those should would be working with, they were all of different age groups

She had only had to work with one to three persons most of the time and now she has a group of twelve people

"Ms. Johnson?" She saw Mr.Ayodele staring at her and she knew she had been spacing out again

"Good Morning everyone, My name is Frances Johnson, I look forward to working with you all, and I would also like to know your names"

They began to introduce themselves one after the other and what role they played in the team.

In the weeks to come there were times she felt she was doing the right thing and at other times Frances wanted to run away like a dog with her tail between her legs

It's been two months now, she opened to the back of her journal where she had scribbled a scripture she found when she initially got the promotion

It was her ritual, everyday for the last two months, Frances would open up her journal and read "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

She loved to read about Joshua, like her, he never wanted to fill in Moses's shoes, but he found himself in such a situation that he had to step up and lead the people of Israel

Frances learned to remind herself daily that she was no longer in the comfort zone of being someone's faithful assistant

She had to learn to be strong and courageous everyday she stepped into the office

Frances looked through the window of her office and she saw the PR team going about their own activities for the day

They had come a long way together as a team and she hoped to achieve greater things with them

Only if she would keep fighting her fears and doubt, if she could be more courageous and trust that everyday God would lead her by the hand.

Just like Frances, every person has things they fear and doubts that makes them want to shy away from challenging themselves to do more.

There is strength that comes to continue when you are conscious that your courage should be in the presence of God that is always with you

Be confident of your abilities, be courageous in whatever capacity you lead; even if it is leading your children, those younger than you, etc.
Do this and watch yourself grow in Leadership.
