See what the letter writer Reno Omokri wrote about the children in court

"Anybody telling you that Tinubu hates Arewa
because of this prosecution of some teenagers is
just gaslighting you. And it is so sad to see Buhari
administration appointees stoking such sentiments.
My question to these Buhari administration officials is this:What should be done with teenagers who are suspected of looting or destroying public property?
They should be given a big sloppy kiss and a medal?
Please fact-check me: Under the Common Law,the Age of criminality in Nigeria and England is 10.As long as they are not underaged children, there is absolutely nothing wrong with prosecuting teenagers. Please fact-check me:"-

Foreign Affairs / Former British Colonies Owe ‘Debt Of Gratitude’, Says Robert Jenrick by KEVIND: 9:06pm On Oct 30
Britain’s former colonies should be thankful for the legacy of empire, not demanding reparations, according to the Conservative leadership candidate Robert Jenrick.

In comments that were described by a Labour MP as “deeply offensive”, the former minister said countries that were part of the empire “owe us a debt of gratitude for the inheritance we left them” in the form of legal and democratic institutions.

Jenrick made the comments in an article in the Daily Mail, pushing back against the growing momentum to provide reparations and justice to countries and people affected by transatlantic slavery.

Commonwealth leaders agreed at the weekend that the “time has come” for a conversation about reparations for the slave trade.

Keir Starmer was among 56 heads of government who signed a document at the Commonwealth summit that acknowledged calls for “discussions on reparatory justice” for the “abhorrent” transatlantic slave trade.

Starmer was criticised before the conference after he told reporters he wanted to “look forward” rather than have “very long endless discussions about reparations on the past”.

Jenrick accused Starmer of doing a U-turn on the issue and of “capitulating to those determined to tear our country down”.

The MP, who is regarded as trailing his rival, Kemi Badenoch, in a run-off for the votes of Conservative members before the announcement of a final result on Saturday, claimed that the debate about reparations had “seeped into our national debate through universities overrun by leftists peddling pseudo-Marxist gibberish to impressionable undergraduates”.

He said: “The territories colonised by our empire were not advanced democracies. Many had been cruel, slave-trading powers. Some had never been independent. The British empire broke the long chain of violent tyranny as we came to introduce – gradually and imperfectly – Christian values.”

Alongside “honesty about the crimes of colonialism”, Jenrick said, Britain should be proud of its “achievements”, instancing the model of common law and other British institutions in former colonies.

He wrote: “I’m not ashamed of our history. It may not feel like it, but many of our former colonies – amid the complex realities of empire – owe us a debt of gratitude for the inheritance we left them.”

Bell Ribeiro-Addy, the chair of the all-party parliamentary group for Afrikan reparations, which has organised Britain’s second national conference on reparations, taking place on Sunday, described Jenrick’s comments as “deeply offensive and an obnoxious distortion of history”.

She said: “Enslavement and colonialism were not ‘gifts’ but imposed systems that brutally exploited people, extracted wealth, and dismantled societies, all for the benefit of Britain. To suggest that former colonies should be ‘grateful’ for such unimaginable harm disregards the legacy of these injustices and the long-term impact they still have on many nations today.

“Following Brexit we need to establish ourselves as a nation that everyone can do business with. We cannot afford such vile, baseless commentary. Whilst it might send perfectly pitched dog whistles for a Tory leadership contest, these insulting sentiments are catastrophic for international relations.”

Days before the deadline for Conservative members to cast their votes on who should succeed Rishi Sunak as leader, Badenoch has also spoken out against reparations, claiming that British politicians are “too embarrassed” to be visibly against the idea.

“I would not put my name to any document that mentioned reparations,” she told the Telegraph.

All this sad.ist that are wondering how Obi keeps on soaring high & donating hundreds of millions to the public.
Let me school you about Peter Obi. Obi was a already a billionaire in his 30s. No presents Nigeria politicians will boast of not making their fortunes from politics except Peter Obi.

Now:
A little about HE Peter Obi

Obi headed a market management company that specialised in imports. He ushered in Heinz Salad Cream, Ovaltine, South African Breweries, and many more consumer brands into the Nigerian market. This is why he’s repeatedly bragged about his reputation as a “big trader”.

In the 1990s, Obi was the CEO of Next Nigeria International Ltd. He also founded the popular Next Cash and Carry which remains one of the largest indigenous retail malls in Nigeria.

By the time he became the governor of Anambra State in 2006, Obi was the chairman of 11 companies in Nigeria and abroad.

In the corporate world, Obi chaired four banks — Fidelity Bank Plc, Guardian Express Mortgage Bank Ltd, Future Views Securities Ltd, and Paymaster Nigeria Plc.

He was also a board member of Guardian Express Bank Plc, Chams Nigeria Plc, Emerging Capital Ltd, and Card Centre Plc.

“I was sitting on the board of three banks and was the chairman of one before I became a governor,” Obi said on Arise TV in 2021.

Peter Obi had major shares in the banks where he was a board member, and has invested in many more businesses over the years.

Politics / Throwback News: IMF borrowed from Nigeria in 1974 – Former Finance Minister by KEVIND: 9:36am On Oct 22
Sokoto — Minister of Finance in the Second Republic, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, said yesterday the International Monetary Fund, IMF, borrowed money from Nigeria in 1974.

Alhaji, who revealed this when Senator Shehu Sani paid him a private visit in his residence in Sokoto, said he signed the loan agreement when he was Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The former Finance Minister, who did not disclose the amount involved, said: “I weep for Nigeria for what it has become today. The country has vast resources that if well harnessed, could lead the country to greater heights.

‘’In 1974 when I was permanent secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance, the IMF approached us for a loan. I signed the agreement on behalf of Nigeria. Unfortunately, today expenses of government have driven us into recession,’’ he said.

He added that Nigeria’s over-dependence on oil was the result of the economic problems the nation was plunged into.

He said: “Aside from oil and agriculture, Nigeria had industries that were earning foreign exchange for it. Agriculture and the industries were allowed to recede and when global fuel prices crashed, we are nowhere today.”

Alhaji further noted that the present 36 states were too many and had bred corruption, noting that government’s expenditure was on the high side.

He said: “The more states we have, the more corruption there is. We should have between six and twelve states. We should cut our coat according to our size.”

On the Biafran agitation, the former Minister said Nigeria should remain united, noting “there is nothing better for us than a united Nigeria. We have potentials that could be harnessed and enjoyed together.”

Northern groups plot to draft Jonathan into 2027 presidential contest

Retired General, North East gov lead push

SOME power brokers from the northern part of the country have initiated moves to draft former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, into the 2027 presidential race.

The permutation is that Jonathan is only eligible for a term of four years, having served as president between 2011 and 2015. The project is led by a North East state governor and a retired General from the North West.

Saturday Tribune learnt that the leaders weighed their options based on the collective interest of the North before electing to bank on the fact that the 1999 Constitution (as amended) allows a maximum of eight years of four years each for president.

The move is part of latest efforts by those described as members of the highly influential caucus in the northern power bloc to abort President Bola Tinubu’s second term ambition.

There is, however, a counter-group which includes some governors and influential politicians who are rooting for another southern politician for the top job. Both groups are against Tinubu’s re-election.

Although talks and consultations are still at the exploratory stage, the promoters of the Jonathan-for-2027 project recently launched intense lobbying of certain critical stakeholders in the Nigeria project to get them to join in the bid to convince the former governor of Bayelsa State, who has been mostly engaged in diplomatic and other activities to foster peace and democratic norms around the world.

A source within the fold told Saturday Tribune that the northern leaders working behind the scenes on the Jonathan-for-2027-presidency lobby are bigwigs from across the political divide in the North who are united and determined to stop what they called Tinubu’s mismanagement of the country.

According to another inside source, to bolster the effort, forces within the coalition have reached out to like minds across the six geopolitical zones, civil and pro-democracy bodies and other pressure groups to rally their commitment and support for the project.

The promoters of the move also believe that given the prevailing circumstances in the nation’s political space, Jonathan is sellable because of his goodwill across the three geopolitical zones in the South and because his candidature could galvanise maximum support in the 17 states in the axis.

The permutation is also that the southern support could complement the goodwill Jonathan still enjoys in most of the 19 states in the North nine years after his presidency.

It August this year, there was a report that certain leaders had tinkered with the possibility of persuading Jonathan to contest the 2027 race.

The initiative coincided with the position canvassed by a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Jonathan administration and current governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, that he would step down the possibility of running for president if Jonathan bowed to pressure to take a fresh shot at the presidency.

After an event organised by a pressure group, Save Africa Initiative (SAI), the governor was quoted as saying that Jonathan had more experience and would do a good job if he had another opportunity to lead the country.

“With regard to your call for me to present myself, I am still contemplating my chances as the leader of the opposition. I know there are good leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), especially my boss, Goodluck Jonathan.

Politics / More Hardship Coming In 2025, Nigerians Will Revolt – Primate Ayodele by KEVIND: 8:25am On Oct 15
The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Friday, revealed that there will be more hardship in 2025.

Primate Ayodele said there will be an economic blackout, which will make citizens revolt against the Nigerian government.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele made it known that the Nigerian government had failed to perform its duties by working towards bringing an end to the current hardship faced by Nigerian citizens.

Primate Ayodele noted that Nigerians are suffering but it will bite harder next year unless the government does what is expected of it.

He said refineries will not solve Nigeria’s problems because it will be frustrated.

‘’As it is now, we will soon buy rice for N150,000 and beans for more than N200,000. The government hasn’t done what they are supposed to do to bring the price of food commodities down."

People are suffering and haven’t enjoyed this government. Instead it’s still more suffering and agony.

’The hardship is coming up and will bite Nigeria hard next year. The government has refused to solve the country’s problems and that’s why the Nigerian economy will fail.

“Refinery will not create anything and foreign exchange will not improve, it will still increase except something is done but I don’t see this government doing anything.’’

Primate Ayodele noted that economic hardship will be three times harder next year unless the government does the needful.

He added: ‘’The price of every commodity, kerosene, gas, diesel, etc will continue to be expensive because there is so much rot in the country.

“The government ought to take out some people from this administration, but it’s surprising that the president is comfortable despite the gross irresponsibility in the country."

"Economic hardship will be times three of what we are experiencing now next year; the government must be careful so that the citizens will not revolt. There will be a kind of economic blackout.’’
