What's the purpose of Intimate relationship like dating and marriage and why is it different from platonic relationship ?!

Both involve having a deep friendship and sometimes even love, people in a romantic relationship are typically physically intimate (romance and sex) whereas there is no sex or physical intimacy in a platonic relationship.
