Yes it's better you take your exams in naija. Self study is possible however for PMP because of the new syllabus, I would suggest you take lectures. There are plenty of them online in naija.

All the best!

Abiodunnn:
Hello people,
Trust we’re all doing great.
Please I wish to start studying to become a Business Analyst and a Project Management Professional by writing CBAP and PMPI exams. My background is in Construction Management.

My question is; how easy is it for me to self-study for these exams? I’m still in Nigeria though

Thank you so much

Nothing like best bank here jare, all offering almost same. Usually new immigrants take advantage of what any of the banks are offering at the moment. E.g RBC will give iPad abi iPod, Scotiabank will do free 1yr banking no charges etc

LordAA:

Please from your experience what is the best bank for saving in Canada.
Thank you

Go to where your profession has the most job offers. Remember you are not spending in naira so quit converting the money in your mind ooo.

Good day!
Please for a family of 4 with no family or "close" friends in Canada, whose initial main focus is "settling down" (basically to start working in entry level positions and not deplete POF, then later face regulated professions licensing), kindly assist to offer advise on the best landing city.
Presently considering Manitoba, Edmonton and Calgary, based on my online research on the cost of living.
Please kindly advise and help us make a final informed decision.
Thanks.

Hi,

Relationship Management here is baseline ,nothing biggy about it, a little above minimum wage.

My recommendation for RM/HOP/HSS people is do something in internal control/audit/compliance/ IT audit/system control/risk etc, take their internationally recognized certifications & build some experience in them before you arrive so you hit the ground running.

Teaching/Academia requires you to have experience, better for you if you have taught outside the shores of Nigeria. If you have taught in high school/universities, you might need to take some courses to understand their system.

Hope this helps

quote author=slydog post=86172825]Good morning fellow Canadians, I hope I can get info here.

My crs is currently 467, while I'm expecting my spouse ECA from Wes by next month to move us up to 475, I'm overly optimistic that I will be in Canny by yearend.

I want to find out career prospects and what I can start doing from here to land me a suitable job.
I have seven years experience in banking as a relationship manager, I also have first to third degrees in economics. So I have flair in banking and teaching/academics, how can break into any of these sectors, what certifications do I need? What other jobs are open to me?
In general, what should I start doing here in Nigeria?

On Rental in Ontario specifically Toronto & GTA

Should I say beacuse Canada is a capitalist country or due to the influx of immigrants, rental can be a nightmare.

Some.are lucky to get rental before they arrive through a friend who have stood as thier guarantor or a friend who is sub letting a room or entire apartment due to a move others aren't.

So majority who don't have friends/family to ease them into thier new location typically get an Airbnb, which is ok.

Landlords are reluctant to give new immigrants rental mostly when they don't have a JOB, a WELL PAID JOB so they demand for 6months- 1yr upfront payment. E.g a 1 bedroom in GTA averages $1400×12= $16,800 or $8400 for 6months.

An option is to get a realtor who can help ease the madness on your behalf. There is nothing like agency fee.

Soooo, be prepared!

N.B: am not refering to crazy landlords that have bias or just acting stupid ooo.

Summer is in full swing already, the heat get as e be. Itz a bum short something, ribfeasts, a lot of outdoor events going on. No stress buy anything winter if you are landing before October. Besides there's always winter sales.

Claire18:
I also searched for his number the day I was at Yaba. Couldnt buy anything cos they were all looking dead. So, one day at Ikotun market, I stumbled on a small shop, n got good winter jackets from there though not Canadian winter, but good for starters. And I think I got it cheap. Winter Jackets @ 3k each, Sweater @ 2k, and one cardigan @1k. Good thing is that I can switch back for another. See pictures attached...
Don't mind me...I just like off white. There are other colours.
I will still try out Yaba.

To share accomodation? Increase it to CAD750 per month to be on the safe side. Goodluck!
Hurricanecol11:
Please I'd be in Toronto by mid Aug. Is a budget of 500CAD good to get a place close to Humber College?

It's between 40k -60k,most new advisors get 40k-45k. All are accepted, the idea is find the one that you wants e.g mutual funds etc. Check CSI/CSC Canada site. All these figures is before tax oooo
topeolu1:
Please whats the avg pay for the banking advisors you mentioned earlier. Similarly which of the courses is most preferable. I see you have several of them to CFC, cifc (not sure though). Which is most widely accepted and recognized.

That role is performed by tellers called customers representatives. They earn around $14-$16/hr. Hence my suggestion earlier on taking a look at Internal control/Audit etc for a boost&better pay

yengi:

Hi thanks for the notes. If the RM's in Nigerian banks are called Banking Advisors what are those in banking ng operations (cash services, funds transfer etc) called?

Just a few words of advice/encouragement as you conclude plans to land especially with regards to work settlement.

1. If you decide to continue in your current line of profession& there is a certification for it,please DO IT especially if it can be done from Nigeria. E.g PMP, do it from Naija, Bankers with branch/RM experience, do the CSC exam from naija if possible worse case, plan to take it immediately upon arrival,it goes a loooooong way to help.

2. Search for career events&register if its few weeks to your arrival.

3. If you decide to change your career upon arrival & you haven't started say taking exams etc before arrival, remember you don't expect to be on the same terrain or have the same audience from recruiters here as the person who has started.

4. If you a RM in a Naija bank, remember to change that title to Banking Advisor here because that's what it's called. It soo helps

5. For anyone planning to be a Business Analyst & you have never been one, decide which type of BA (Iat, Operations, Strategy) you want to be,take free courses online to understand the lingo+CBAP

6. Head of Operations/HOP/HSS, pls note you can't be those roles in Canada because it doesn't work like that. What of thinking along the line of Internal Control,Audit,Risk, AML etc?? Just saying!

7. YOU CAN GET A JOB THAT PAYS SAME OR MORE THAN YOU ARE EARNING IN NIGERIA. JUST COMEFULLY ARMED& PREPARED!!

Am sure we have heard most of these things before, however a lot of newly landed still fall into these categories & it hurts gannnn..

God bless!
