Properties / Lagos State Government Demolishes 2,000 Shanties In Jakande Estate by kimberlyrashid: 8:36am On Nov 02, 2016
Operatives of the Lagos State Building Investment Corporation, Monday, demolished over 2,000 illegal shanties and makeshift shops allegedly used to deface Jakande Estate in Ejigbo. The action of the agency, according to residents and shop owners in the estate have rendered hundreds of people jobless as the shops provided a ‘daily bread’ to the owners.
According to one of the residents, Kayode Adesina who spoke to The Guardian amidst tears:

“The demolition was carried by the Lagos State Building Investment Corporation and the Ministry of Environment. They gave us notice of demolition but where do they expect us to go. They said they want to beautify the estate. They came with over seven Bulldozers and dozens of military men and here we are, I have my children in the university. My job stopped and it was from this shop they demolished that we have been feeding on.

“I am devastated as I speak to you now. We have gone to the Lagos State House of Assembly to register our protest; we have also been to Baba Jakande’s house. I am confused and I don’t know what to do.”

Another shop owner, Gboyega Adebanjo told The Guardian that the entire estate would protest the action of government.
His words:

“This was not the change we voted for. It is unfair that actions of the government are usually against the poor and the middle class. What do they expect us to do now? How can they just come and destroy our source of livelihood?”

According to another resident, who identified himself as Damilola Agbaje:

“The exercise carried out by government is not in our favour. It is not good that Lagos State government has continued to make life miserable for us. We are not in a happy mood at all.”

Women and youths of the area were sighted wearing long faces as scavengers had a filled day carrying metals from the destroyed buildings.
Although, shop owners had attempted to halt the demolition, they were prevented by fierce looking military personnel who came with the Lagos State officials.

One of the shop owners who spoke with The Guardian said that she had owned the place for over a decade.

Career / Skye Bank Sacks 50 Workers by kimberlyrashid: 7:50am On Nov 02, 2016
About four months after it disengaged about 200 of its workers, Skye Bank Plc has retrenched about 50 members of staff, including those in outsourced and auxiliary functions.

Although the number of the affected non-core employees could not be ascertained since they were not direct workers of the bank, it was gathered that the reasons for their exit ranged from non-performance, disciplinary issues as well as rightsizing by the lender.

It was further gathered that most of the affected personnel were in outsourced functions like tellers, drivers and internal security guards.

When contacted on the development, the Head, Corporate and Brand Communication, Skye Bank, Mr. Nduneche Ezurike, confirmed the exit of the affected workers, adding that the management of the bank approved the payment of generous entitlements and severance packages to them as contained in their engagement letters and as agreed with the workers’ union.

The Central Bank of Nigeria had on July 4 sacked the Chairman, Skye Bank, Mr. Olatunde Ayeni; Managing Director, Timothy Oguntayo; Deputy Managing Director, Mrs. Amaka Onwughalu; non-executive directors, Mr. Victor Odozi, Mr. Babajide Agbabiaka, Dr. Jason Fadeyi, Mr. Kunle Aluko, Mr. Victor Adenigbagbe, Mr. Abdul Bello and Hajiya Amunna Lawan Ali; and the two longest-serving Executive Directors, Mr. Dotun Adeniyi and Mrs. Ibiye Ekong.

In their place, the CBN announced Alhaji Muhammad Ahmad as the new chairman, while Mr. Adetokunbo Abiru was also named as the new managing director.

Other members of the reconstituted board are Bayo Sanni, Idris Yakubu, Markie Idowu and Abimbola Izu, all of who had been serving as executive directors of the lender before now.

The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, had explained that the “proactive moves have become unavoidable in view of the persistent failure of Skye Bank to meet minimum thresholds in critical prudential and adequacy ratios, which has culminated in the bank’s permanent presence at the CBN lending window”.

The bank’s reconstituted Board was mandated to run a lean and efficient organisation; control costs; aggressively recover debts owed it; grow deposits; and shore up its liquidity position.

Crime / Men Steal Two Bicycles Worth N3m In Lagos, Sell One For N10,000 (Photo) by kimberlyrashid: 4:04pm On Nov 01, 2016
Afeez Hanafi

The police in Lagos State have arrested two suspects, Umaru Babangida and John Samuel, in connection with the stealing of two exotic sports bicycles worth about N3m.

The bicycles belong to a resident of Babatunde Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, identified as Osarenkhme Afe.

It was gathered that the stolen items – a Scott X10 hybrid bicycle and a giant defy advanced carbon fibre road bicycle – were valued at N1.1M and N1.9m respectively.

Twenty-year-old Babangida, was said to have bought the Scott X10 hybrid bicycle from Samuel and other suspects at large for N10,000.

They were apprehended on October 22, after the case was reported to the police at the Maroko Police Division.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Afe had come back from morning jogging on September 14, when he discovered that the bicycles had been stolen.

It was learnt that the thieves had crept into the building when a security guard manning it had slept off, stealing the guard’s phone and the bicycles.

One of the suspects, Babangida, told the police that he was initially suspicious that the bicycle was stolen, but decided to buy it after assurances that there was no problem.

He said, “I bought the bicycle from a man that was brought to me by John (Samuel). I bought it for N10,000 but he didn’t give me a receipt. The man said it belonged to him and that I should not worry.”

Samuel denied the knowledge of the theft, saying he only facilitated the selling of the bicycle to Babangida.

“I met a man on the road and he said he wanted to sell a bicycle. I told him I didn’t have money and took him to my friend, Babangida. I didn’t know it was stolen,” he added.

A police prosecutor, Inspector Philip Osijale, on Monday arraigned the two suspects before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on three counts bordering on stealing and receiving stolen property.

The charges read in part, “That you, John Samuel and others now at large on September 14, 2016, at about 6.30am, at Babatunde Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area, within the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal one giant defy advanced carbon fibre road bicycle valued at N1.935,000, and one Scott X10 hybrid bicycle valued at N1.1m, property of one Osarenkhme Afe, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

The defendants pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum by a presiding magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami.

The case was adjourned till December 21, 2016.

Celebrities / "I Don't Feel Betrayed By Iyanya's Move To Mavin Records" - Ubi Franklin by kimberlyrashid: 2:18pm On Oct 31, 2016
CEO of Made Men Music Group (MMMG) and Iyanya's former manager, Ubi Franklin, has reacted to the singer's major move to Don Jazzy's Mavin Records. Ubi states that he's happy for his former partner and does not feel betrayed by his move to a competing music label.

News broke this morning that your former partner, Iyanya has signed onto Don Jazzy's music label, Mavin Records. We would love to know your stance and reaction to this?

I’m happy for Iyanya. The truth is that, if you are happy for somebody, God will be happy with you and you will be happy with yourself. I don’t have anything against him.

This is music business and everything you do - as far your music is right and you are making the music for the world, it doesn’t depend on the label that you are in for all to enjoy it. I'm happy he is where great music comes out from, a label with one of the best music producers in Africa. I'm so happy for him, today is his birthday and I wish him all the best.

Iyanya informed everyone initially that he was going to start up his own label. This has however changed. Do you feel betrayed?

We are all human beings; today Iyanya is 30 by age. As a 30-year-old man, you are able to take any decision on your own, you can change your mind, you can do whatever you want to do. The most important thing is that from what I've seen, trust me he is happy. Nobody takes a decision that is going to be bad for him.. I still know he still has his own plans for his Label. But at this point, I know Iyanya is where good music comes from.

So you don't feel betrayed?

No No! The only way I will feel betrayed is if there was something he owed me and he didn’t give back to me, but there is nothing like that. I'm happy for him.

Do you see any more collaborations between your team and Iyanya in the future?

That’s the funny thing about music, everything is possible. When you see people in music having issues, just leave them, the wheel goes round, if you check my snapchat, I'm always dancing to his music. There might be a future collaboration, I'm open to anything. I'm a business man, there is nothing we are fighting for.

Nigerian controversial entertainer, Charly Boy has taken to social media to write to all the ‘frustrated Nigerians’.
He also went further to reveal himself as the ‘President of Frustrated Nigerians’ announcing he will be leading a revolution group against corrupt politicians in the country. Read what Area Fada wrote below:
“Like my friend Obinna said and I agree with him, henceforth…. “DON’T ASK for a Revolution; Be the Revolution. Forget about Buhari’s Change. Be the Change. Do not wail for that which is troubling this country; Fight to fix it and make the country great again. Do not hail the Corrupt and destroyers of our Dreams; Expose and ridicule them. The Politicians are Corruptly Connected; Criminally Bonded and Fearful of the MOB; The People. We must be audacious in our Demands; we must be Fearless in our Agitation and we must be ready to sacrifice our all for this Country.”I will take the First Bullet; let my body be the first to drop; Let my Blood be the first to wash our LANDS. But let no Nigeria turn back once we begin this Resistance to Political Insensitivity and mindless looting of our common wealth; Let no Nigerian Walk Alone…The Nigerian Politician is our Enemy; The Nigerian People are the Victim and it is time to channel our anger towards a Peaceful Revolution”. We must stop being the victims and become THE FEAR. If our yeye Leaders no fear us, change no go come. Stay tuned for The Change. *Charlyboy Oputa* *(AreaFada)* *President* *Frustrated Nigerians*h”........................http://www.aksmedias.com.ng/2016/10/charly-boy-has-taken-to-social-media-to.html
