Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by kingakaay: 12:53am On May 17, 2022
Hello guys,

Please if someone could respond: I'm asking regarding proof of funds for a 2-year course in Canada. Is it compulsory for a successful study permit application to have the 2 years of tuition and living expenses available in your bank account as proof of funds? Is it possible to show enough funds for the first year?

What are the other possible ways to show the visa officer you can afford to pay for the second year aside from landed assets or treasury bills?

I'll be glad if someone can help here, thanks.

Thanks to everyone that responded to my questions when I got the previous denial. I sent multiple emails to JustMellow and he was so helpful and very responsive, gave detailed analysis to the doubts I had, I'm super grateful.

So, I did my biometrics in Lagos, how do I go about sending my passport?

Also, I just realized that my current passport expires in January 2023 and I plan to send that for stamping. But I dont know if that will be a problem seeing that my classes start in September. Since I have a few months before resumption, can I renew my passport here in Nigeria? The renewed passport will not have the stamp, so I'm confused on what to do.

How do I handle this situation so I won't need to request for a new visa when I enter canada?
Please advise.

Do you and the kids plan to join her later too? And how do you plan to go about that, thanks.

Investment / Save, Budget & Invest The Right Way In 2021 by kingakaay: 10:45am On Dec 15, 2020
You need to have a savings, budgeting and investing habit to be able to escape the cycle of living on monthly salaries. We know ourselves that before the month ends we have already finished last month's salary and waiting for this month's.

You have to break that cycle in 2021 by just have a simple system to allow you to save some little from what you earn and invest some too.

Business / #staysafe: Tips For Navigating Uncertainties In The Economy And Stock Market by kingakaay: 1:54pm On Apr 08, 2020
Often, the best time to buy is the time when you are most likely to lose faith and sell.

Here are a few tips that would help you stay invested and take advantage of opportunities during uncertain times.

Diversify

Spread your portfolio to include commodities, bonds, and cash. Example of a safe-haven commodity is SPDR Gold Trust (GLD), backed by real gold. You can earn passive income and also diversify through iShares Core US Treasury Bond (GOVT)

Invest What You Can

It's best to use short-term funds for essentials, food and rent.

Value Stocks are Great

Underpriced, battered and beaten up are all descriptions of assets during a bear market. Pick companies that are survivor companies (usually the biggest companies in a sector).

Invest in Defensive Stocks

Companies that produce and sell household and non-durables - toothpaste, shampoo, shaving cream - are examples of defensive industries because people will still use these items in hard times. Example of an asset in this category is the SPDR Consumer Staples Select Sector (XLP).

Dollar-Cost Averaging

You should think of buying investments like you buy food–do it often. Buying assets on fixed dates and fixed amounts regardless of prices means you don't have to bother about the right time to buy stocks.

Inverse ETFs

These funds allow you to make returns even when the market is declining. However, make sure you have a strategy to close your position after some time. Example include the Proshares Short S&P 500 (SH).

Keep Your Cool

Separate your emotions from your investment decision-making process.

Finally, to get through this period, join the daily investing webinar organised by Chaka at 3 pm every day of the week to guide you through the market.

Stay Safe.

Business / How To Make Money From Bitcoin In 2019 - 6 Practical Methods by kingakaay: 12:04pm On Mar 13, 2019
You need to read this post to learn about the several legitimate ways to make money with bitcoin in Nigeria. Aside from investing, we have identified 5 other ways to earn bitcoin.

This practical guide will help anyone that wants to make money from bitcoin in Nigeria. More accurately, help you legitimately earn bitcoin with a reasonable amount of effort.

1. Investing in bitcoin

The world is increasingly reliant on the internet, and bitcoin, a secure digital currency, has piqued the interest of many investors. Some believe that bitcoin would eventually replace paper money as everyone in the world gets on the internet and desire a faster, transparent means to transfer value, while others believe bitcoin will be the digital gold existing side-by-side with paper money.

Regardless of the future of bitcoin, this digital currency has provided an exciting opportunity for everyone to have an entirely new asset class in their investment portfolio. Bitcoin is a high-profit investment vehicle albeit with high risk. Returns on bitcoin have performed better than the all-share index of most stock exchanges on the African continent.

2. Trading bitcoin

Another way to make money from bitcoin is by trying to benefit from the daily upward and downward movement of price. There are several methods traders use to make money in the market, but the two listed below are common and practicable:

Proprietary Trading

It involves you buying a portion of bitcoin from an exchange and selling it in some hours/weeks/months when the prices go up. Although it sounds effortless, there are some important details to note about this approach.

First, there are about a thousand cryptocurrency exchanges around these days, and some of them are just pure scams. The critical thing you want to do is find the safest and most secure cryptocurrency exchange you want to use. Guava Exchange is one of the most secure platforms to trade in Nigeria. International exchanges like Binance and Bittrex provide the opportunity to trade your bitcoin with several other profitable cryptoassets.

The second thing to know is that bitcoin is quite volatile, and it’s difficult to predict what the price will be in the future. In other words, its price could experience sharp fluctuations in a short period. For example, the price of bitcoin fell by about 35 per cent in November 2018 alone. So, to be able to make some nice profit you have to learn how to anticipate the market correctly through the use of historical data and learning from experienced traders.

Market Making

A market maker is at both ends of a bitcoin trade. Market makers earn their profits by providing liquidity for the market. They do that by creating limit orders in both directions, their profit is the spread on the bid and ask (Bid is a buy order while Ask is a sell order).

For example, the price of bitcoin could be at N1, 300, 000. You create a buy order for N1, 299, 900 and a sell order for N1,300, 100. When both orders get filled, you earn N200 as profit. That seems small, but considering that you can keep doing this same thing over and over again and quickly get to 100 trades a day, it makes sense for many traders. (Note: professional traders make use of a trading bot to execute these transactions).

3. Bitcoin arbitrage between exchanges

The price of bitcoin at any moment depends upon which exchange you are using at that particular time. Bitcoin arbitrage is the act of taking advantage of the price difference between two or more exchanges. An arbitrage opportunity exists when there is the opportunity to buy something for a low price and sell it for a higher price on a different exchange.

How does this work? You register on different exchanges like Luno, Remitano and other cryptocurrency exchanges that are easy to use. You set up ready to buy on one exchange and transfer the bitcoin to another exchange to sell at a profit, taking advantage of the disparity in prices.

Of course, it’s not that easy to buy bitcoin on one exchange and then transfer and sell it on another exchange. You have to put into consideration fees and time delays between transferring the bitcoin from one wallet to another. Only if it would be profitable then should you embark on arbitrage.

4. Making money from remittance

Nigerians living in the diaspora are often looking for a way to send money to their families or business partners in Nigeria while saving money on transfer fees. That is an opportunity for you.

You can help people transfer money by receiving what they intend to send in a specific bitcoin price, converting it to Naira, and handing the money over to the recipient here in the country. Of course, you have to ensure you have adjusted the agreed bitcoin rate to cover for any possible loss that could arise as a result of a decline in the price of bitcoin.

Read this article to find out other ways.

Bitcoin is not a scam oh. It's the future of currency.
Business / How To Create A Bitcoin Account/wallet In Nigeria by kingakaay: 1:15pm On Feb 11, 2019
A bitcoin wallet is a service either online or offline that stores the private key for the bitcoins in your possession. Should your wallet ever become inaccessible, the private key would be out-of-reach, which makes your bitcoins unspendable. That's one of the significant differences between a bitcoin wallet and your traditional bank account.

These wallets can exist on physical devices, as software on a personal computer, on a cryptocurrency exchange or on a paper (a printout of both your public and private keys; the coins will still exist on the blockchain).

Now, to open a bitcoin account, you have to sign up for an account with a bitcoin wallet provider. Some online exchanges, including Guava Exchange, automatically create wallets for new user accounts on the platform. All you have to do is load the wallet with bitcoin. However, there are other flexible and free non-exchange options too.

Bitcoin wallet providers available to Nigerians

Some of the companies that provide wallet services to Nigerians include:

1. Guava

The Guava wallet has a simple design that allows you to keep tabs on all transactions in and out of your wallet. By clicking on the wallet, you can easily see the historical view of transactions on the right panel of the page. With the Guava wallet, you don't have to worry about losing your private keys or setting up security procedures to safeguard your coin. You also have access to the easiest and fastest way to buy bitcoin in Nigeria through the Guava Exchange.

2. Blockchain.info

This company is one of the oldest Bitcoin wallet providers. Headquartered in Luxembourg but everyone around the world can sign up for their free bitcoin wallet.

Note that you cannot buy or sell bitcoin on Blockchain.info. It only affords you the ability to send and receive bitcoins.

3. Ledger

The Ledger Nano S is a USB hardware wallet. It's portable and provides the ability to store your bitcoins offline. It's useful if you have a large portion of bitcoin that you intend to save for a long time. The product currently retails for above 25, 000 Naira.
