Nairaland / General / Angry Mob Stripes Two Alleged Cannibals Unclad, Makes To Set Them Ablaze by kmanning: 2:31pm On Sep 18, 2013
An angry mob on Monday striped naked two men, identified as Alaba Abiodun and Samuel for allegedly eating human flesh. But for the timely arrival of policemen, the suspects would have been set ablaze.

It was gathered that a passerby along the rail line in Ikeja saw three men in tattered clothes with one of them making a call and another eating a meat suspected to be human flesh.

The passerby raised an alarm that attracted the mob which instantly pounced on the suspected cannibals. Luck was on the side of the one making the phone call as he managed to escape.

Celebrities / EXCLUSIVE: Afrocandy Opens Up On Her Séx Scenes And Much More by kmanning: 11:02am On Sep 02, 2013

Exclusively, this is the interview Tribune had interview with the controversial, never seizes to follow US-based Nigerian actress, Judith Opara Mazagwu, a.k.a AfroCandy. The mother of two is however insisting that many Nigerians love what she is doing and they are rushing for her movies, even though some are pretending in public.

Below are AfroCandy's revelations on her latest séx scene and more:

Your recently released movie entitled “Destructive Instinct” has generated mixed reactions. Surely you expected this to happen.
Well, you should know that the people that are condemning my movie are not my fans. They are pure haters. My fans do not condemn me, but they love everything I do. They are even happy that I could beat the odds to release the movie regardless of all the setbacks. I don’t care about the people that are speaking negatively about the movie. They should get used to it because this is just the beginning. It is what it is! Their bad comments and attacks did not stop me, can never stop me and will never stop me.

Is it true that you want to bring the movie to Nigeria ?
Yes. I was even preparing to release it in Nigeria this month, but there is a little discrepancy with the marketers. They want the original version with the sex scenes, but we are still discussing on some issues. I didn’t get naked and didn’t have sex in the movie and will regard it as the usual or normal movie. So, we are still on it and as soon as we reach an agreement, I will drop it.

How convinced are you that the Censors Board will not ban the movie in Nigeria?
I already told you the marketers said I should leave that for them to handle. That is why they are asking for that version. I guess they know better.

Is it true that the main reason you produced the porn movie was to gain publicity here in Nigeria?
Publicity was not the intention. I was trying to break a record in Africa, not just in Nigeria. But the fact is that this kind of movie I made does not come without ‘publicity’. You know.

What is your grouse with Mercy Johnson, Uche Jumbo, Ini Edo and other Nigerian actresses?
I have nothing with or against any of the actresses .

It was reported that you always took Ini Edo along with you to locations back then. Does the relationship remain the same?
I never had any relationship with any of them. As for Ini Edo, I worked on the same productions with her director who had to beg me to pick her up from the bus stops. One was at the Amuwo Odofin. We were shooting a movie in Festac and she had no car then, while I already had my first car. The second time was at Ogba. That was years back.

Do you see these actresses ahead of you now?
I see myself as AfroCandy. I am who I am and doing my things in my own ways. I am not competing with any actress, neither am I trying to be like any other. So, I don’t see myself amidst anybody. Sometimes I make references just to let people know what is on, instead of just letting them judge me by mere assumption.

Don’t you feel you are missing as you are not based in Nigeria?
I live in a country where most of them long to live. I don’t think I am missing anything because I can still do whatever I want to do from America. The only thing is, I took a break to focus on raising my daughters as a single mother. I have to stay closer to them.My first has turned 18 and she is very responsible. I will loosen up a little bit to pay attention to my career though, so I will be doing more now. And whether I am in Nigeria or not, you won’t know the difference.

But Uche Ogbodo and Cossy Orjiakor remain your true friends in the industry?
I think I answered you before.

As a mother and an actress, which of your movies do your children like most?
I don’t discuss that with my children. I only give them a hint of my projects. They don’t even have to see my projects to like them, or approve of them, especially now that I have started doing more of explicit projects. Explicit stuffs are not for children.

But people, especially the under-aged, could gain access to these explicit stuff considering the level of technology we have today.
Well, you can’t control what children see on the internet, but your job as a parent is to educate them on the implications. If they are responsible kids, they stay away from such things. My kids are very intelligent, smart and very responsible. They know what to stay away from.

You recently celebrated your birthday. How fulfilled are you?
Very fulfilled.

How did you celebrate it?
I was too busy trying to release my movie. For now, it is all business before pleasure for me. When I achieve all I am working toward, I shall relax and celebrate birthdays because I don’t believe in chasing grasshoppers while the house is on fire.

How did you feel seeing your social media walls flooded with loads of birthday wishes?
It felt good.

You have more male fans than the females
I think so.

Maybe they got attracted to your weird postures?
The fact is that I am a female. More of the opposite sex should naturally be attracted to me.

Were you impressed with the turnout to your recent “Dick” auditioning?
I was overwhelmed, not just impressed. I even twitted about it. I got more responses than I expected.

What prompted the auditioning?
I cannot go into details about that for now.

In your last interview you promised to remarry soon. Any plan towards that yet?
No plans yet. Like I said, I am too busy for that.

Would you encourage any of your wards to go into acting or sing?
I have once answered that question but the press misconstrued it and wrote what I did not say. So, please, leave that. Leave my children out of it. They got their education to focus on and don’t need these distractions. If I want them to act or sing, they will. But for now, let them be.

A host of Nigerian, Ghanaian movie producers and you, in recent time, have appeared in movies that could pass as Indecency. Is it a new avenue?
It is what it is. That’s all I have to say.

What really spurred you to produce such movies?
I wanted to break a life time record. I wanted to set the pace while others can follow. You can say that I love making history.

Can you state briefly the main story line of the movie?
It is a long story, it’s a movie with four parts. I can’t start telling it here. I’ll rather have people get the movie and watch it to figure out what the story is all about.

How did you arrive at the title “Destructive Instinct”?
Honestly, it was my producer in Nigeria that gave the name ‘Destructive Instinct’. I can’t tell how he came about it.

Words were that it was because you’ve been starved of sex.
Oh, really? I never read about that. But I would let you and those that reported it to take a good look at me and tell me if I look like a sex starved woman. I guess it’s conji that is affecting our people. They are the ones that are sex-starved for them to have even had such crap in their hearts.

What are the challenges that almost turned you off during the course of producing that movie?
We had so many challenges right from the beginning to the end, but what matters is where we are. At last, the movie came out. It became a reality.

What should your fans expect after Destructive instinct?
I am coming out with a new movie titled ‘Ikebe Squad’ and a new single.

Would you say you are successful are as an actress?
I am not as successful as I want be, so I cannot tell you that I am successful; as long as the hustle continues, no success yet.

With your experience, how would you compare Naija entertainment and that of the US?
Is there any comparison between the two? The difference is clear because we are third in the world, meaning we are evolving in quantity, but USA is higher in quality, but we will get there someday.

How have you been able to contribute to the growth of the industry, especially in US?
You can see what I am doing already; at least I brought something new to the Industry.

One of the house mates of the just concluded Big Brother Africa (BBA), Beverly, had rejected your invitation to feature her in your film. How will you react to this?
I will not comment on that for now. I cannot answer anything that has to do with Beverly yet.

Would you honour the invitation if you were asked to participate in the next edition of BBA?
I want to reserve my comment on that. I remember the late Goldie featured as a guest artiste in one of the editions, but did AfroCandy represent Nigeria on BBA? I still want to keep mute on that. I don’t know, but it sounds funny to me.

How often do you follow the game?
I do not watch reality shows, but I know and heard about the activities on it.

As the African woman you claim to be, do you have African attires?
Of course, I have a lot them, Am I not an African Woman? Original Igbo Woman for that matter, I lived in Lagos for 14 years with all the Owambe parties.

Talking about appearance and looks, what reactions do you get from people when you go out?
Well, I do not walk around naked, and my stage appearance is usually different from the regular day to day dressing, so I do not raise any eyebrows when am on the streets. Sometimes you may not even recognise me; absolutely no different reactions.

As an African and Igbo woman, it is believed that people do not see single parents as responsible persons. What is your take to this?
That is Nigerian mentality, “slave mentality.” I want to tell you and those people with such mentalities to look around the world, especially in America, most influential people were raised by single mothers, President Obama was raised by a single mom, Oprah was raised by a single mom and the list goes on.

You mean you don’t have any regrets as a single mother, even if there were lots of condemnation to such development?
Does my looks and demeanor suggest that I have any regrets?

What is your most embarrassing moment?
I never really had a very embarrassing experience, but there was a time, I was moving into a new apartment, the truck and the movers were outside with some of my neighbours, I came out carrying something to the truck and somehow my wig got stuck on one of the things I was carrying and fell off of, everyone was looking at me before I realised I had no wigs on my head, I ran back into the house to fix it. It was a crazy experience.

Nairaland / General / Man Kidnaps Self, Demands N2million Ransom From Brothers by kmanning: 8:33pm On Sep 01, 2013

The police in Enugu State have arrested one Samuel Ani after he allegedly “kidnapped himself” and demanded N2 million ransom from his brothers.

Samuel saw his own kidnap as the quickest way of getting financial assistance from his brothers, who he labeled “stingy fellows”.

However, it has ended up badly for the coffin dealer, an indigene of Ugwuaji, Enugu South Local Government Area.

It was gathered that he faked kidnap and hid himself for six days at a bush behind his shop situated at Gariki axis of Awkunanaw also in Enugu South, from where he was making telephone calls to his two younger brothers in a very convincing tone that he had been abducted and that the sum of N2 million was required to get him out of the purported kidnappers den, else he would be killed.

The spokesman of the police in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, who confirmed the incident disclosed that the case was reported to the State Police Command, which mobilized its anti- kidnapping unit.

According to him, “when Samuel intensified his call that the purported kidnappers were on the verge of killing him if his people cannot bring the money, which was later reduced to N1.2m, some amount of money was sent across to the account number provided by the purported kidnappers and a certain girl who went to cash the sum of initial N100, 000 sent into the account in one of the new generation banks located around Agbani road axis on 29/8/13, was tracked and picked by the operatives.

“Her revelation led to the arrest of Samuel who disclosed that he was not kidnapped but that he kidnapped himself so that his wealthy younger brothers can pay money for ransom which he will use to sort out his business dealings”.

Ladies..we have a tough one here..Lol in this interview with Punch,Melvin says he doesnt fall inlove. He also addresses rumours that he’s jinxed.. Excerpts…

You were attracted to Selly and later to Dillish. Who were you really attracted to?
I don’t fall in love and I didn’t see myself falling in love in the house. Love just doesn’t happen. For me, love is a gradual process. That was why I didn’t ‘toast’ anybody.

First it was Gulder Ultimate Search and later Mr. Nigeria and now Big Brother. Do we see you go into any competition again?
Ah! I have tried o. I am not the only one in Nigeria.

I don’t intend to go into any other competition. I would just use this platform I have now to move my career. I have been finishing as a runner up in all this shows. But I am not jinxed. It is not easy to be in this competition. It has a little bit of psychological effect on you but it is all good. That you didn’t finish first doesn’t mean that you are not good enough.

I look at the positive side. I will not sulk but I will keep doing what I have to do.

What do you intend to do after now?
I am going to take my acting career to greater heights. I was an actor before I got into the house. I think that my acting career will go up.

Science/Technology / See What Will Now Be Used To Cure HIV by kmanning: 3:43pm On Sep 01, 2013

Scientists have discovered that apart from pollinating crops, producing honey, beeswax , propolis, pollen and royal jelly, Bees could also be the solution to the highly dreaded HIV and cancer.

A team of scientists at the Washington University School of Medicine in the US, used nanoparticles carrying a toxin found in Bee venom to destroy HIV without harming nearby body cells, successfully.

According to Agency Report, the findings were contained in the current issue of Antiviral Therapy.

Explaining the modus operandi, Dr. Samuel A. Wickline, one of the researchers said; “Bee Venom contains a potent toxin called melittin that can poke holes in the protective envelope that surrounds HIV and other viruses. It has even shown melittin-loaded nanoparticles to be effective in killing tumor cells.”

Speaking with Vanguard in Ibadan recently, Mr. Ayodele Salako, a Beekeeper, corroborated the assertion of the researchers. “The Bee sting is very medicinal. A bee keeper who is stung by a bee every now and then, will not complain of any ailment because the bees have taken those things away from you by enhancing your immunity. That is one of the best works of bee venom.”

He demonstrated this by administering bee venom therapy on some people with pains in various parts of the body like the waist, hands and knees. All recipients said the pains stopped after a few minutes.

“Because the bee venom toxin has been engineered not to attack healthy cells, a vaginal gel loaded with bee venom particles, could be ideal for couples where one partner has HIV and they want to have a baby,” the report said, adding; “It’s also theoretically possible that intravenous injections of the nanoparticles would be able to clear HIV from the blood stream, a virtual miracle for those who have tested positive.”

Nairaland / General / Birthday Party Ends In Tragedy As Jealous Girlfriend Bath Her Lover In Hot Water by kmanning: 10:04am On Aug 30, 2013

A birthday party organised by a student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Niyi Adelana, ended up in tragedy as his girlfriend bathed him with hot water over a minor disagreement.

The 19-year-old lady simply identified as Yetunde, a National Diploma 1 (NDI) student of Science Laboratory Technology, was said to have lost her temper when her boyfriend invited other ladies to the birthday party. The ugly incident occurred last weekend at Miracle Hall, BHS area in Iree where Yetunde and Adelana reside as off-campus students.

It was gathered that Adelana, who celebrated his birthday last Saturday, invited some of his friends mostly ladies to his birthday party, a situation that did not go down well with Yetunde. However, when the party ended, Adelana decided to pacify his lover but met a resistance as she out of anger, reportedly poured hot water on him.

The agonising scream from Adelana drew the attention of neighbours to the scene of the incident and he was quickly rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the town. The matter was later reported to the Police who promptly arrested Yetunde alongside her father for interrogation.

Investigations conducted by The Guardian showed that Adelana received severe burns on his chest, neck and right hand. According to a source, the victim had shunned Yetunde during the birthday party while attending to other guests but later in the evening, he decided to visit her but the visit turned sour as his lover poured hot water on him out of anger.

Sadly, when the news of Adelana’s ordeal broke, his ailing father was said to have slumped and died after hearing his son’s predicament. When contacted for reaction, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Tope Abiola said that the incident took place outside the school premises hence the management could not interfere.

He said: “It’s very unfortunate and we sympathise with the victim and his parents. It is a criminal act, the school does not have power over it because the incident happened outside the campus.”

If any lady is so insecure about her man then it is best for her mental help to dump him and remain single as she works on her self confidence. So sad.

Pastor Biodun and Ese Walter when the going was good

It was an atmosphere of artificial crowd and artificial shouting in COZA as the man in the eye of the storm, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo mounted the pulpit during Sunday service to REACT to what you all have been reading about him in the social media.

And the Pastor Fatoyinbo said:
"I'm sure you read somethings about me in the social network. I've been receiving calls from
different people even big people in government... They have been advising me; 'don't talk, we understand'.
Read my lips: Because I know that there are people here that are not part of us:
We are going to speak but we are consulting. We'll come out with a robust reply.....but for now...we ask God he said 'don't talk'.... My destiny is not in anybody's hands...
He also said something like people are trying to bring him down because he is building a new church, saying: "Brethren, no one will see our new church building site and not want to bring us down."

Well, let's not make conclusion now. But I'm kind of surprised why Pastor Fatoyinbo could not go STRAIGHT TO POINT on this matter. Ha!! I think you are feeling the same way too.

What's really going on?

Health / Is The Subject Of Marijuana Debatable? Harmful? by kmanning: 4:18am On Aug 24, 2013
Let's look at this issue together since there are increasing degree of freedom these days due to enlightenment and civil rights

Marijuana, ordinarily, is a weed. The dried leaves, flowering tops and stems, which can be used as a drug because of the curative properties are wrapped into cigarettees form and often smoked by people. Cannabis is the plant yielding the marijuana leaves. It’s name is derived from Latin American Spanish.
Historically, Marijuana came into Nigeria after the first and second world wars when Nigerians were conscipted to fight on the sides of Britain. Some of the soldiers on their return from Burma and North African military campaigns brought the weeds home.
Marijuana
Initially, Marijuana had several local names apart from the popular one – Indian Hemp. It used to be called “Morocco,””Igboo,” “Ganja”, “Smoke”, “Grass”,”Weewee”, “Stone” etc.
Because of its attribution to “mental disorder”, the authorities criminalised the smoking of Marijuana as anyone found in possession of it, or caught smoking is liable to be sentenced to six months in prison without option of fine. That was the situation until the military intervention on January 15, 1966, when the army took over from elected civilian government.
However, it was the military government of Yakubu Gowon who changed the punishment for smoking and possessing Indian Hemp from six months to 10 years imprisonment, thus making people to be aware that Marijuana was dangerous and could be the cause of violent crimes in the society.
This led to the police getting more returns from those caught smoking the weed at different joints and homes across the country.
However when the Gowon regime was overthrown, the new military government of Maj-Gen Murtala Muhammed saw no reason for the long jail term for Indian hemp offences and therefore repelled that law, reverting the punishment to six months prison term. This was received by the people with a sigh of relief. The sentence for marijuana possession had remained soft and flexible till the coming of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, which introduced stiff penalties for offenders and other serious drugs like cocaine, heroin, etc.
Marijuana has been found not to be harmful nor addictive and people need not be afraid of its usage, although it can make the smoker “high”, and operating in another thought-level.
There are research studies indicating the medicinal, herbal, healing and curative qualities of marijuana.
In some states in America, there is what is called “Medical Marijuana” which could be legally used with doctor’s prescription.
Doctors can prescribe marijuana for some ailments like epilepsy which has no cure, except by marijuana.
Even children of two years and above are given “edible marijuana” for cure of epilepsy which has been very effective to control the frequent seizures. So the recreational and medicinal use of marijuana are now gaining ground in USA. Governor Christie of New Jersey is sending a bill to the state legislature to legalise use of marijuana for medical purposes. Edible marijuana administered to a 2-year old child suffering from epilepsy has worked perfectly well with the child fully cured and seizures reduced from 100 a day now to zero

Crime / Lagos Rescues 25 Children From Alleged Trafficker by kmanning: 4:54pm On Aug 23, 2013

Lagos State Government has rescued 25 children from an alleged child trafficker in the Egbeda area of the state.
It was learnt that the suspected trafficker, Mrs. Rosemary Nwachukwu, was also arrested and had been handed over to the Alausa Police Division, while the children were currently in government’s custody.
The government accused Nwachukwu of operating an illegal orphanage named, Saint Stephen Charity Foundation, on Abiodun Adebanbo Street, Egbeda.
It was gathered that officials from the Office of Youth and Social Department, led by the Director, Child Development, Mrs. Alaba Fadairo, in conjunction with personnel from the Office of Public Defender and policemen, stormed the orphanage on Saturday.
The government said findings showed that the suspect was using the orphanage as a front for another illegal business.
The Director, OPD, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, said of the children, whose ages ranged from three months to 12 years, were victims of human trafficking.

Rotimi said, “It was discovered upon investigation that Nwachukwu trafficked 27 children and kept them in a room. We were able to rescue three infants of ages three to six months and 22 other children. Efforts are still on to locate the remaining two.”
The OPD director added that the suspect used the victims for financial gains by putting them up for adoption. She said the suspect would be charged to court after investigations had been concluded.
However, Fadairo, said, “Investigation also shows that there are no records of each child and no evidence of how the children got to her orphanage. No police or security report.”
Fadairo urged members of the public to be vigilant and report suspicious orphanages to the appropriate authorities. She said some of the orphanages might be fronts for human trafficking.
She said, “People and organisations that operated unapproved orphanages will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.”
But Nwachukwu said she had been running the orphanage for 18 years, adding that it was purely on charity basis, and without financial gain.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said Nwachukwu was in police custody and would be charged to court on Friday (today).
She said, “We found out that she registered as a charity and thus not qualified to run an orphanage. She will be taken to court on Friday (today).”
