Islam for Muslims / Re: Why Do Muslim Guys Prefer To Date Christians Girls? by koladz(m): 4:00pm On Nov 19, 2007
smileyI'm new, so hello. Please I need some help and advice, lipsrsealed cry angry

I married my Muslim husband in October of last year and if I'm honest it has never been easy. There are so many differences and its ruining what we had. When I met him he wasn't practising, we met in a club whilst he was drunk and he moved in with me shortly afterwards. At that time I was in the process of a divorce which he didn't seem to mind about. His father died about a year later - after we had done Fetiha in his home country. I agreed to do as I was told, he didn't even really explain what went on - but I am confident in my religion and went along with it. A year later we married in England, firstly in a Registry Office so religion was not a problem but I wanted to be blessed, we modified the wedding so as not to offend or cause a problem with Islam for my husband or his friends, which meant I had no sign of the cross and no kneeling - I did this for him. 4 weeks prior to our wedding he decides hold me that if and when we have children they must be Muslim, now I'm sorry, I love my husband but I find this very difficult. My husband has now semi-returned to practicing Islam - he doesn't pray or go to the mosque - doesn't drink, only eats halal and is now pretty much trying to keep us at home. Due to his semi-return my life has changed, I don't drink, we very rarely go out, I end up eating halal, which I don't agree with, but I have to accept this because of him. We all know from above my husband has committed extremely serious sins, I was not the first woman he had an affair with. He tells me he will be punished severely for these sins but the fact is he still insists the children must be Muslim. I don't understand this, if he was fully practising then perhaps (and it is perhaps) I could understand this better but he is not. We have discussed names of children so we can try and find some common ground - Joseph and Yousef but he insists that they must been known as Yousef - I am fair haired and blue eyed - what if we have a child the same, he is going to have so much to deal with from a very early age. I do not hate Islam, but I do not understand the constrains it puts upon us, my Christianity never comes into it, we are never not able to do anything due to Christianity. I feel I sound like a spoilt child who is not getting her way but this is splitting up our relationship, I love my husband but he will not give on one point, which I'm lead to believe is Islam - can anyone else give me some ideas on how to get through this, I don't want to divorce but its getting to the point where I just don't want to be miserable anymore. I'm 32 years old, I don't go out other than to work - I hold down 2 jobs while he has 1, I stay at home, cook halal and feel I have given up my identity. There are many many more things that have gone wrong in the last 3 years too many to put on here and they are all based around my husband's selfishness towards me and my religion.

I am sorry to have ranted on but I'm desperate to find people who have been through this and got out the other side. Sorry to be so miserable on my first posting.

Kind regards

Religion / Re: The Important Of Fasting To Muslim by koladz(m): 9:44am On Sep 21, 2007
1, Ramadan is the name of the Muslims' fasting month. Ramadan comes approximately every 11.5 months (10 to 12 days earlier every year, because the Muslim month is 29 days except for Ramadan which could be 29 or 30, and February in the normal calendar is almost always 28 days while the other months are usually 30 to 31 days such as July). So fasting could occur during the summer and during the winter.

2, The Wisdom behind fasting is to develop self-restraint, feel for the poor, and to fully appreciate Allah Almighty's Holy Gifts to us here on earth from food, drinks and daily comfort.

3, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. It is during this month that Muslims observe the Fast of Ramadan.

Prophet Muhammad(saw) said, “Ramadan burns the sins and faults, just as the fire burns the wood.” The importance of this divine month was reiterated by the Prophet when he said, “The Month of Ramadan is the month of Allah (God), bringing His Mercy and Forgiveness.” According to the Holy Qur’an, fasting was made obligatory by God not only for the followers of the Prophet Muhammad but also for the followers of all the Prophets who preceded him (including prophets Moses and Jesus): “O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those who preceded you; that perhaps you will be mindful of God,” (Qur’an 2:183).

The basic mandatory elements of the Muslim fast, how-ever, are straightforward. As the Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad expound, it consists in the simple abstention from food, drink and sexual relations during the hours of daylight. Just before the call for the Dawn Prayer is given, the Muslims gather to share the meal called suhur, usually a light meal of vegetables, yogurt and fruit. Then, usually break fast together. When invited to break the fast, the Prophet Muhammad used to supplicate for his hosts by saying: “May those who are fasting break their fast with you, and may the pious eat of your food and may the angels invoke blessings for you. O Allah feed the one who fed me, and give drink to the one who gave me drink.”

But what of the infirm, the elderly and those whose work involves strenuous physical labor? According to the Qur’an, anyone sick or engaged upon a journey is entitled not to observe the fast, and no blame attaches to this. The days in which the fast is broken are made up at any later time during the year when the sickness is at an end or when the traveler returns. As for the elderly or the incurably ill, such people are neither required to observe the fast nor to make it up afterwards. Those working at tasks which are extremely physically demanding, such as quarry-men or steel workers, are likewise permitted to break the fast, together with certain other categories of people, such as pregnant women. The guiding principle, as with every other practice of Islam, is that what can’t be done, or causes extreme hardship, is not required.

It is essential to try to understand the effects of fasting on the human spirit. Muslims say that when they fast they feel that a barrier has been erected between them and the world. No longer are they constantly absorbing sustenance from their the effects of this is to compel them to realize their total dependence upon food and drink, so that they fervently thank their Creator for His unfailing provision of their daily needs. In addition, they will come to know hunger. We read so often that one-quarter of the world’s population is in a state of constant hunger, yet how many of us realize the nature of this sensation? If our lunch is two hours late most of us feel extremely uncomfortable. But to grasp the true meaning of hunger, it is necessary to go without food for longer time. By the end of a day’s fast, the Muslim usually feels hungry, but not unbearably so. Thus we are awakened in the most real and direct way to the plight of millions of our fellow human beings, and will be more willing and ready to extend to them our assistance.

Ramadan is declared by God as a month of blessings, the Holy Qur’an, the greatest favor upon humankind, was gifted in this month. The Prophet called it a month of sympathy, an equalizer of rich and poor and the Divine Will multiplied rewards during it.

Fasting is worship, a time of reflection to refresh our long-forgotten pledge with God, the pledge of being perfect witnesses of the Prophets’ lifestyle. It is the time to look at ourselves critically, see where have we departed from the ways of Prophets Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, Abraham and other prophets (peace be upon them all), eradicate selfishness, ego, and violence and excel in love for all human beings.

Romance / Re: Who Is A Friend? by koladz(m): 12:23pm On Sep 14, 2007
A friend is,
A push when you've stopped,
A word when you're lonely,
A guide when you're searching,
A light when you go blind;
A glass of ice lemonade when you feel thirsty,
A colour-drenched scene when you're in the dark.
A guarantee when you're uncertain,
A cheer when you fear,
A smile when you're sad,
A song when you're glad,
A sense of trust when you're in deep rest.
Do we really have such a "friend"?

Computers / Re: Why Is My Laptop So Slow? Help! by koladz(m): 12:14pm On Sep 14, 2007
The first thing I would look at is processes running within Program Manager. Also, have you added hardware or software just before this slowdown started? Do you run the Defrag' utility regularily, doing an 'anaylze' to check if it is needed or do you have 'Defrag' set to run at a specific time? There are several possibilities.

This can also be a memory issue. As a computer ages and contains more and more files, the MFT (Master file table) grows and grows, and more memory is required for the MFT, which decreases the amount of memory available for applications.

When I get major slowdowns to look at, what I do is:
(1) run something like Ad Aware to clear out any malware
(2) run disk cleanup and defrag the hard drive
(3) give it a three-finger salute and look at running processes. If there is anything there that I don't recognise, or which looks suss, I google it and see if it is malware (some requires a heavier blow than your antivirus or antimalware program can deliver). There's often an on-line solution to this kind of nasty.
(4) I also look at how busy the CPU is -- sometimes a service can be trying to initialise and repeatedly failing, and heavy CPU usage when you are not doing very much with the computer could be a clue. Event Log will sometimes show you where a problem is occurring.
(5) panic
(6) if there is an occasional warning about virtual memory, I reset the virtual memory to have the computer manage virtual memory rather than set a minimum and maximum
(7) reinstall the entire system.

I have seen add-ons like Yahoo or Google search tools mess up internet access, but am unsure whether they also mess up system speed; I have also seen computers slow down quite dramatically when running MS Office, with PowerPoint likely to be a particular offender, but that was more of a problem with version 97 than with more recent versions.

Occasionally there can be intermittent hardware problems, so, if everything else fails to solve the problem, you may have a bad connexion to the hard drive or a failing CD drive which keeps trying to start up.
