WestAfrican:

Buy cars with logbook or buy a car from a dealer, it may be dearer but you have a peace of mind that if anything goes wrong you can swap for something else.

If the person is on budget, they can buy a cheap car but watch out for crack/blown head gasket, ball joint, overheating, and transmission problems. Meanwhile it pays to buy cars within $3-4k mark, they may have high kms but are still good cars.

In australia you don't really look at km on cars if they are constantly serviced. You have to drive long distance for work and other things.

Thank you

What to expect is the normal wear and tear of an old car. If the person knows about car, he should be able to identify any that will create big problem after purchase.

For peace of mind, he should get a car of about $1500. Do a good inspection and test drive before committing to buy. Some junkies who have very good cars sell them at ridiculous cheap price when they are desperate to buy drugs.

Thank you

Depends from $600-$3000

Thank you for your response Bellong. Please can you advise on getting a car for $600 - what to expect and so on. Pardon the lack of substance in my post. I am based in UK and I know you can get a functional car that costs similar to $600 but my brother in Queensland has been advised that he has to spend at least $2,500 to get a good car. Please any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey bro,

I doubt they'd call to verify your qualification - if however they do, it will be to the university so you'd have nothing to worry about. I believe it is compulsory to write IELTS if you are claiming any points from Language ability. However, if you don't need to claim any point from IELTS (provided you have accumulated 60 points without IELTS) then I think you might be ok with your uni proficiency. Please don't take my word only for this as I am not 100 percent certain.

I have no problem sharing my email but to be honest, you have better chances of getting support on here than with only one person - especially at this stage. I will be more than happy to share some of my experiences with you on here.

Cheers

afolaseg:

I studied computer science and want to assess my credentials. so i wanted to confirm if they do cal for verification. will like to get your contact or email me your contact at afolaseg@gmail.com . pls is it compulsory i write the ielts too? or can i use letter of proficiency from school because i graduated 2012 ?

thanks for the response.
Travel / Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by kolawolead(m): 3:49pm On Jul 15, 2016
Hi Afolaseg,

The assessing body is Vetassess and there was no call regarding the qualifications neither was there any regarding the work experience. I guess the fact that the transcript goes directly from the school is enough check? not sure....

Do you have a chosen course of study yet? Or perhaps profession depending on whichever route you have chosen?

House, please I need help with a contact in Queensland, any help will be gratefully received.
Thanks

afolaseg:
Congrat bro.. i just sent a message to your email.. pls reply or send me your email or phone number. i will really need your help. When assessing her credentials, did the assessing bodies call her to ask your sisters questions about her work experience or qualifications?

thanks

Good news, got visa for sister and her family on the skilled 489 for Qld!

With a heart full of thanks, I just wanted to take the time to appreciate and thank everyone on this platform. I started out on a journey for visa for my sister and her family right here. It was such a blessing to have you guys share your experience and guidance here.

Special mention to BossLadyMO - who is no longer on this platform, but without her support it would have been very difficult to get thing through. Also to Future Don and all all the class of 2014/2015, I am thankful.

To anyone planning to move between now and December, please get in touch.

I'll also appreciate tips of guide from anyone already there in Aus or Qld.

Politics / Re: Nigeria Has Over N 2.7Trn In Treasury Single Account ( TSA ) – AGF by kolawolead(m): 12:04am On Apr 24, 2016
Attempt to shed more light on the concept of the TSA.

The money in the TSA account does not belong to the FG (yet)! It belongs to federal ministries and parastatals.

These are their revenues. They also have expenditures which will be taken out of this account. This is why the reported figure/amount would often vary. A federal parastatal may have been generating revenues over the past 10 months and can have one huge expenditure in the 11th month which can reduce the balance in the account.

By and Large, the essence of the TSA is that only genuine expenditure would be expected to go through. We should also note that ministries are in the habit of trying to put through as much expenditure as possible towards the end of the year.

With this in mind, PMB would be breaking the law (rule if you like) by spending this money. What ever is carried forward into the next year is what the FG is able to spend!

Congrats to all for all the success stories so far and thanks to all sharing their experience to help us all.

Please I have a question. With the recent forex limitations in Nigerian banks, how is the best way to pay for aus visa fees? I mean would banks do such transaction or do I have to go and source exchange in the parallel market?

All your help and advise will be gratefully received.

Thanks

I understand that events would have overtaken this particular post but I wanted to add my voice in appreciating you @BossLadyMo. I am a benefactor of your kindness. More so now that you live in Australia, we are truly blessed to have your support (and others' on this forum) because time is of a different value when one lives in a western country.

My sister, God will continue to strengthen you and your family as you strive to help people you have never met in your life. The same goes for all other legendary helpers, God will come to your support in every aspect of your lives. God well bless all our hustle, Amen.

Keep flying high BossLady, regards.

I derive pleasure from helping people. It's just the way I am, the way I am programmed. I am not some sadistic psycopath who derives pleasure from online attention. I am of the opinion that no one should be left in Nigeria, if they have the chance to gain a better life abroad....especially people with kids. Looking at my kids, I know that even if something happens and we can't afford to pay for their education...they have a government and systems in place to enable them continue their education as much as they can. So if I can help anyone else in any way I can, why not? I don't answer questions to show off. I say what I know. I was once a novice also. I remember my very first post on this thread. But I took my time to research thoroughly...like I said, I was not willing to spend a huge chunk of money on a process I knew nothing about.

So for someone to come and say there is more to me 'online niceness'....hmmm.....

I will let it die there.

Thanks to everyone who came to my defence.

Thanks BossLadyMo,

I have read online that IELTS can be waived when the applicant and dependants (above the age of 16) possess equivalent of a bachelors degree.

This link http://www.workpermit.com/australia/ielts.htm
"To determine that you have sufficient English language ability to be able to participate in the Australian labour force, the Australian authorities require that you take the IELTS examination if you are not a native English speaker. You do not need to take the IELTS exam if you have gained a tertiary degree (equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification) from a University where English is the medium of instruction."

And

This one for NZ which has a lot in common with Australia - http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/skilledmigrant/caniapply/english/

However, you may not have to take the IELTS test, if you can show us that you:
have a recognised qualification from a course taught entirely in English
have ongoing skilled employment in New Zealand, and have been in the job for at least the last 12 months
have other evidence that you are competent in English - we will consider the evidence that you provide.

I am keen to avoid relying on the IELTS because poor sister just had a baby and I feel it will help if she doesn't have to add more pressure of preparing for IELTS

Please give your opinion based on these information if it's a risk worth taking by relying on proficiency letter from university

bossladyMo:

Yay!

No, she has to do IELTS, if she is the main applicant. Do that Asap, so you can apply in this financial year...in case the rules change in July or the occupation gets removed.

Hello Nairalanders,

I have come with gratitude to you all, especially @BossladyMo for your help and support on this forum for newbies.

I have received outcome of the assessment and it is positive.
The next stage is to make EOI which I intend to do by this weekend. Also my sister may be relying on the English language proficiency letter from university for her visa application - please what do you think about this?

Thank you

Congrats BossLady Mo,
After logging in after a while and saw a lot of congratulatory messages to you, I decided to dig far back to this post - to like, congratulate and appreciate God for his blessings. More power to your elbow, the Aussies and the system will continue to "reckon" with you lol!

PS - no update yet on sister's stuff, will keep you posted if any.

Blessings!
bossladyMo:

Naaaaa...just your Naija license. You need to take a written test though, and then a practical test. The written test is not hard, as long as you study the material...I passed mine in one go. Also, even if your licwnse is expired, but by not more than 2yrs, you can still convert it...just that you will have to spend $130 on a learner's permit to take the test.

The sockets are different here oooo. So be ready to buy a converter adaptor...$14. Also, ensure you bring AV and RF cord for TV, just in case the house you rent does not have it. AV cord that is sold for N200 or so, is over $30 here...while the cheapest RF is $19......imagine!!!

Got a job with Telstra y'all, training starts Monday....entry level position, but still something to get my foot in the 'Australian Experience' Door.....peace!

Hi Nairalanders,

Please I'm unsure how to interpret this “At least a bachelor degree from an Australian educational institution or other degree of a recognised standard”.
Does other degree of a recognised standard refer to other degree types awarded in Australia only or does it include Nigerian degree?

Hi alhajichuks,

You may want to start by visiting this website - http://www.studyinaustralia.gov.au/
You will also find it helpful to read (thoroughly) through previous posts on this page. Newbies (like myself) have found numerous experience shared here quite helpful - at least to understand where to start from.

Thanks for the response ferdimako,
I guess my concern now is will the embassy (visa processing authority) accept the letter of proficiency?
Thanks

ferdimako:

You must do any of the approved test of English for any PR application. Letter of proficiency is to avoid doing any but some schools insist more.
Travel / Re: General Australian Visa Enquiries by kolawolead(m): 9:44pm On Feb 19, 2015
Hello happytbaby, many thanks for this very useful information.

I understand you need to give your previous institution an address that you want the letter of proficiency to be sent - I believe this would be the University in your case?
If yes, did you send the same letter (Carrying OZ's university address) with your visa application?

I am asking because I am unsure if this letter of proficiency can be used for the 489 provisional pr as well - and if it should be addressed to VETASSESS or Aus's embassy?

Everyone's input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

happytbaby:
Yes, depending on the school. You will need to ask your previous institution for a 'letter of proficiency in English Language". The University also requested for transcripts to be sent directly from his previous institution.

The letter of proficiency was also submitted for the visa application.

Travel / Re: General Australian Visa Enquiries by kolawolead(m): 11:38am On Feb 04, 2015
I am not aware of any reason why it's a bad idea - especially if a large sum is involved. however one will most certainly get better rates in local Bureau de Change outlets

I'm sorry but you are ignorant....you know very little about life outside Nigeria.

No need to be sorry @justwise, it would have just helped if you highlighted which part of my post you don't understand or disagree with?
Or does my handle sounds like "okoomoge2" ni? lol

equlibrium:

so what happened to the two bitter university of Australia graduates, sitting besides you and grumbling/cursing at all we stupidos heading to Australia like mad sheep heading off a cliff?
Did they move back to make you change your mind or did they die overnight?
Or is this an indication that it's your two UA graduates that are the lazy asses who in your own words would "struggle even in paradise"?
You my friend have never had anything positive to contribute here before so finding these two UA grads to discourage you further, instead of the hundreds of others who could have put fire in your belly is in character for you I suppose.
And you obviously have never worked in this country, bossladymo described my life for you in that work in VI, live in abeokuta piece, it is hell! 5k on fuel every week? That is hell! All those dead souls over worthless phones, cars, politics? That is hell! You live in hell my bro, and you are obviously aiit with it, no biggie, stay!!! But kindly log off the forum of would be migrants! Cos I could tell you I have had it great here. Great job straight from school and a modest salary by Nigerian standards, but I want even more!!! I deserve better! You don't have to want the same thing, but then always coming here to criticise those of us who know what we want and go for it, LAME!
As for the old man, no jobs, @seun's classmate guy, you obviously don't know what suffering is even if it slapped you in the face, but everyone here has pointed you in the right direction, its called immigration jobs. But I will go a step further, come try sure-p jobs, the same ones GEJ says he has created 1.4m of. Come pick one, in your black tshirt and black pants.
You don't know anyone here, but calling people kids is pretty foolish of you, if seun and you were mates in ife, that would make you a 2003 grad, and you think everyone here was in nursery school at the time? You think all the numbers you hear about 50% youth unemployment rates here are lies? Hahaha, you have obviously had light and water for too long man.
Took me 10years to find a dear friend a 50k monthly salary job here in Nigeria, does that go figure for you? Dude, you have totally forgotten how it was here, please come back home.

IF I CAN MAKE IT HERE, I CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE!!!

Moving to Australia today, Oh Australia! I cannot wait to make you mine!

LOL! You apparently didn't read my post properly (except if you are being mischievous?) so I won't dignify your incorrect and baseless accusations towards me with any response.
Travel / Re: General Australian Visa Enquiries by kolawolead(m): 7:47pm On Feb 03, 2015
I'm quite pleased I have learnt some thing! That saying "hook line and sinker" never meant more than a saying to me...but eh, it means a lot more now lol thanks BossLAdyMo! For other curious minds like mine - "It has its roots in fishing lingo, referring to a fish having fallen for the bait easily; swallowing the hook, the fishing line, and the sinker along with it."

My tuppenceworth regarding level of unemployment in Australia is this - As mentioned in many earlier posts, there is no such place where fortune is freestyle. That said, there are enough opportunities in advanced countries - provided you are focus minded and you enjoy the grace of the almighty God. Those that gets caught up in unemployment issues (whether black or white) are those with lackadaisical attitude towards life - these kinda people will struggle even if they migrate to the paradise.

The OP on unemployment rate has merely expressed his views through an acutely short-sighted lens - and my advise to him will be to start to see beyond his nose. To all aspiring to travel to Australia, I have heard good stories about people living there - it is apparently on of the best places to live in the world. However, more than anything focus is a fundamental requirement in any where we find ourselves. With the GRACE of God, things often seem effortless.

bossladyMo:
A country where minimum wage is $18, govt benefits are there to help you out.....you would have to be a drug user or a gambling addict to not afford a fairly okay lifestyle.

I was watching Secret Millionaire. The version I watch from other countries, shows homeless ghetto people, poverty stricken people etc..........Australia's version was mainly about the disabled people and a few people luving on the minimum wage line (who by the way looked like they were living better than many Nigerians I see around).

Australia is not a land of gold...no where on earth is. But just because someone came here to spew trash (...as far as I am concerned), insulting people, does not mean qe all should swallow it hook line and sinker...(and the fisherman and the boat sef lol).
