jesusjnr2020: Are you ok sir? From what you just said, the man was derailing from the things of God. That's not questioning, that's cautioning. Plus, I do not think you grab her context of questioning. Please, slow down with your fingers on the keyboard or is it bad for MTN or Glo or Airtel or whatever SIM you use to browse to agree to sell data for you ni?? 1 Like |
Health / Should You Marry Hiv Positive Partner? by KomsaNsg(m): 12:26pm On Aug 01, 2021 |
HIV and AIDS is a worldwide health challenge. It is not a disease of race, gender, age, geographical location or economic status Millions of people have died from the disease and millions more are living with it.Epidemiological studies reveal that 3.2 million Nigerians are living with HIV and about 500 thousands are newly infected. Nigeria has the 2nd highest burden in the world. People living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) are spread across all age-groups, though mostly between ages 15 and 40, Which constitutes the majority of workforce, the singles and waiting population. GENDER AND AGE EPIDEMIOLOGY According to UNAIDS in 2010, driven by huge populations and gender disparities in Sub-Saharan Africa, young women aged 15-24 make up 60% of people living with HIV globally 11% of adolescent girls have had sex before age 15, accounting for 16 million births every year. An estimated 2 million adolescents aged 10-19 were living with HIV in 2009, 65% of them are girls A 2005 multi-country study found that between 1%-21% women experience sexual abuse before age 15. In a nutshell, there’s a higher percentage of woman and girls living with HIV SERO-DISCORDANCE Sero-discordance is the term used to describe the conflicting HIV status of intended couples or already married couples. Marriage is a blessing but sero-discordance is huge concern. Especially when the woman/lady is HIV positive. Conflicting HIV status brings discontent, rejections, segregation, intimidation, relegation and disapproval. Various concerns are meditated and acted upon, of which families of couples involved are unhappy. CONCERNS A good number of disturbing issues arise between sero-discordant couples. Most of which are foundations of marital bliss and coexistence. Some of these concerns include; 1️⃣Transmission 2️⃣Financial commitment for management 3️⃣Public acceptance 4️⃣Tradition/culture Transmission Transmission from person to person is the chief concern of sero-discordant couples. Husbands are scared of getting infected by positive wives just as much as wives are about their positive husbands. Infection/transmission to offspring is another height of fear between sero-discordant couples where the wife is positive. All these fears were subjected to research and it was found that the probability of transmission from husband to wife is greater than wife to husband. Also, if a nursing mother is under appropriate and regular Anti-retroviral therapy (ART), she is less likely to transmit to her babies during birth/breastfeeding. Irrespective of the transmission concern, ART provides a safe window for normal social interactions as long as sharps and accidental discharges are monitored/avoided. Financial Commitment For Management At the current Naira to Dollars exchange rate, monthly ART is estimated to cost between #684,000 to #1,714,000. This requires huge financial capacity and can cripple the financial/economic status of a family. As a result, many try to opt for subsidized treatment options and for some who couldn’t, they risk family breakup and abandonment. Public Acceptance One of the major challenge of people living with HIV/AIDS is public acceptance. In Africa for example, your HIV status is a treasured secret to prevent public shame. Positive individuals are treated as less human than everyone else. They are detached from social gatherings and usually actively treated so. Human being are the prime social animals and anyone lacking social connections slips into depression or hostility. Therefore, intentional transmissions linger. Plus increased suicide rate and tendencies. Tradition/Culture Rejection and disapproval can ensue as a result of Traditional or cultural procedures. Africans or Nigerians precisely always do background checks for intended couple and diseases raise serious eyebrows. CONCLUSION Should you marry a positive individual? Maybe. Can you marry a positive individual? Yes. If the concerns mentioned above can be dealt with or probably eliminated, marriage can occur happily. |
Health / Nigerians And COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines by KomsaNsg(m): 9:13am On Jul 31, 2021 |
In the Beginning Till date, Nigeria and the whole world is in awe of the 2019/2020 emergence and spread of coronavirus, now known as Covid-19. It threatened the core structures of existence and living with great turbulence, crippling more lives than leprosy ever did to legs Millions dead, national and international weeping dominated the media space. One can not console another, everybody losses someone or something. Many were confined to hospital beds with no forthcoming social support or care from family, friends and colleagues. Later on Countries doubled efforts of surveillance, quarantine and monitoring of every foot that steps through land, sea, or air borders. As a result, Quarantine became the most popular word, seconded by lockdown, hunger and family disputes in the period. Conspiracy theories dominated the internet space with theists at the centre of it all. Clerics of various religions admonished all to cling to their maker, ‘for this is one of the signs of end-time’ they said. Finally, light at the end of the Tunnel!!! Months passed, time, energy and money sank, and at last, vaccines came floating on top of the scientific resources the generation had and is able to spare. Still, conspirators wouldn’t rest on their beliefs. Some clerics say the vaccine is the mark of the beast as recorded in their holy books. Others hold that there are microchips embedded within it aimed at controlling the will of people and spying on their daily lives. Consequently, the world was separated into factions. Groups take stances and made them public Some would receive the salvation the vaccines offer, irrespective of the rumours spreading like wildfire. Another, notably, believe the disease was just a normal respiratory seasonal infection and would soon pass without need for serious medical or political cold feet The Nigerian Stand In the background the drama, conspiracies and theories lies an uncommon group of black people/culture residing in a developing country, the acclaimed ‘Giant of Africa’. These people have great amounts of energy and potential for massive success in all fields, including science, engineering, architecture and art. In this country, the basic preventive counsel for Covid-19 are disobeyed in an unapologetic manner. Switching the purpose of some of these measures (use of facemasks, face shields and hand sanitizers) from medical to fashion and class. Hand-washing basins in public places have become new territories for arachnids and physical distancing was as though it was never a preventive option disseminated by W.H.O. Words on the streets is that Covid-19 claims publicized by the government structure concerned with disease control is a ‘big sham’. Nigerians do not act ready for civility or able to accept it. One of the ripple effects of constant subjection to intense corruption. Low and middle class citizens entrust the attitude of civility to the rich and affluent. Corruption digs deep and the effects target an important factor for growth, optimism and respect for government opinion The burden The habit of respect for internationally recognized principles for prevention, especially in the case of a pandemic such as Covid-19 is important, else, Nigeria would become a reservoir. Wear a mask, face shield or glove Always wash your hands Sanitize with alcohol-based hand sanitizers Maintain 2m distance in a public gathering Above all, stay informed from reliable sources |
