Donald Trump has broken with a two- decade old tradition of hosting an iftar meal at the White House during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The modern tradition was started by First Lady Hillary Clinton, who hosted a meal on Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, in 1996. Both Presidents George Bush and Barack Obama hosted an annual iftar - the sunset meal that breaks the daily fast during the holy month - in their time in office. The first, informal, White House iftar is said to have taken place in 1805, when Thomas Jefferson hosted the Tunisian envoy to the US and announced in invitations that "dinner will be on the table precisely at sun-set". Secretary of State Rex Tillerson reportedly rejected a request by his department's office of religion and global affairs to hold an event for the holiday. “It is disappointing because that’s been a good tradition,” Imam Talib Shareef of the Nation’s Mosque in Washington, DC, told the magazine Newsweek of Mr Trump's decision. "To stop it doesn’t send a good message. You get the chance to go golfing and all this other kind of stuff. How come you don’t have time for a population of your society that needs some assistance? The message that it sends is that we’re not that important.”

Irishman McGregor, 28, announced the fight on Twitter by simply saying “The fight is on” and accompanying it with a cheeky dig at his rival — a pic of Mayweather’s DAD.

And five-weight former world champ Mayweather responded moments later to confirm the most-hyped fight ever with a video showing a boxing ring, the pair’s faces and the fight date emblazoned across it.

On TV, UFC president Dana White then revealed the bout between undefeated Mayweather and MMA superstar McGregor would take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas and be at light-middleweight.

White said: “The impossible deal is now done. We’ve been in negotiations for a while.

“It’ll be in a ring, it’s a boxing event.

“Conor McGregor is a guy who’s done a lot of good things for the sport and this company and he wanted this and the fans too.

“Conor is 100 per cent positive he wins this fight and I stopped doubting him a long time ago.

“Floyd Mayweather is 40 years old, he’s always had problems with southpaws.

“Conor is 28 and southpaw. When Conor hits people, they fall.

“The reason Conor’s as big as he is is he’ll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. He will go after Floyd Mayweather and he will try to knock him out.”

The duo have been engaged in a year-long slanging match that has left fans salivating at the prospect of a cross-code showdown.

The pay-per-view bout will be broadcast on Showtime and could gross a staggering $1bn — £784million.

In his first UFC fight four years ago, Irishman McGregor pocketed just £8,000.

Mayweather, who will come out of retirement to take on McGregor, is undefeated in his 49 bouts.

Irishman McGregor is the only UFC fighter to hold a world title in two different weight divisions.

IN LONDON we’ve had the Gherkin, the Walkie Talkie and the Cheese Grater, so if New York’s latest skyscraper isn’t nicknamed the U-Bend, we’ll be sorely disappointed.

For now though, the architects who have masterminded the new arched building are labelling it ‘The Big Bend.’

The structure has been described as ‘The longest building in the world,’ because the skyscraper would be built upwards, before curving round and allowing a second connecting tower to then continue back down to ground level.

The 4,000ft-long design came about because the architects were trying to build the best building within the city’s strict planning laws.


Oiio, the design studio responsible for the project said: “New York city’s zoning laws have created a peculiar set of tricks through which developers try to maximise their property’s height, but what if our buildings were long instead of tall?

“The Big Bend can become a modest architectural solution to the height limitations of Manhattan.”
They added: “We can now provide our structures with the measurements that will make them stand out, without worrying about the limits of the sky.”

The property would sit on Billionaire’s Row on 57th Street, making it one of New York’s most prestigious buildings.

As well as slick interiors, the property would also house a mind-bending lift system that would travel in a loop, horizontally and along curves.

A MUM has given into her instincts and begun to breastfeed her baby boy, despite calling him an ‘alien’ for his deformities.

The unusual looking baby, from India, was born with a tiny head, bulging eyes and a hard, shell-like body.


He has been swarmed by local visitors who believe he is a reincarnation of a Hindu God.

Mum-of-four Khalida Begum, 35, gave birth to the little boy on Monday and said she was “shocked” when she saw his appearance.

She initially refused to breastfeed the baby, who was born prematurely.

Doctors in India have diagnosed the boy with a“extremely rare genetic condition called harlequin ichthyosis, locals said


I was so shocked and saddened by this that I asked the midwife to take the baby out of my sight.

“My other children were born healthy without any deformity.

“That’s why it took me sometime to absorb the shock.”

The boy’s father, Mohammed Imtiyaz added: “Maybe God has sent him as an exhibit.”

It is not known how long the boy is expected to survive.

What is harlequin ichthyosis?
Ichthyosis is a condition that causes and persistent thick, dry, “fish-scale” skin.
There are at least 20 different types of ichthyosis. Some types are inherited at birth and other types are acquired during adulthood.
There’s no cure for ichthyosis, but a daily skincare routine usually keeps the symptoms mild and manageable.
Most people with ichthyosis have inherited a particular faulty gene from their parent. The signs and symptoms of inherited ichthyosis appear at birth or within the first year of life.
The faulty gene affects the rate at which the skin regenerates – either the shedding of old skin cells is too slow, or the skin cells reproduce at a much faster rate than they can shed old skin. Either way, this causes a build-up of rough, scaly skin
Ichthyosis vulgaris is the most common type of inherited ichthyosis, affecting 1 in 250-1,000 people.
Harlequin ichthyosis is extremely rare, but the scaling is severe and requires intensive care at birth.
There’s no cure for ichthyosis, but moisturising and exfoliating the skin daily can help prevent dryness, scaling and the build-up of skin cells.
People with severe ichthyosis may need to spend several hours a day caring for their skin.
People with mild ichthyosis have a normal lifespan. However, the most severe inherited types can be life threatening.
