Computers / Best Apps For Windows by Koscyber21: 3:59am On Jan 07, 2022
There are so many PC apps available online, it’s hard to tell which ones are the best suited for your purpose. For instance, you can delve into programs for social media, gaming, video downloads, photo editing, and program development kits, to name a few. These tools and utilities enhance your PC experience, no matter which operating system you’re running. You can even find emulators that bring the Android and iPhone experience to your computer.

Photo Director

Nowadays, editing your photos before posting them to social media is essential to capturing your followers’ attention. Thankfully, PhotoDirector makes it easy to pull off professional-level edits without any prior editing experience.

PhotoDirector is a high-performing, user-friendly image editing program with an impressive selection of tools and features. This program is much easier to learn than popular editors like Photoshop and includes all of the tools you need to turn basic, raw images into masterpieces.

PhotoDirector also comes with a 4,000,000+ stock library provided by both Shutterstock and iStock by Getty Images. You’ll have unlimited access to all the royalty-free images you’ll need while layer editing.

Here are a few key features of PhotoDirector:

Layer-based editing
Raw file support
Beauty tools
Photo and animation effects
LUTs and color matching

Team Viewer

TeamViewer is another useful Windows app for service-based companies that provide technical support for their customers. If a user cannot solve a serious issue with a service by following the textual instructions provided by customer support, TeamViewer is a fantastic alternative.

Your customer can share their ID and password with your customer support team, so your team can connect remotely to their computer and inspect the issue more thoroughly and resolve it as soon as possible. The app is pretty safe to use, and the connection is secure.

Nonetheless, as a customer, you should make sure that the person you are giving access to belongs to a legitimate company, and you shouldn’t move away from your computer while they are troubleshooting the issue in their service.

ProtonVPN

ProtonVPN is one of the best VPNs for Windows 10 and perhaps the best when it comes to privacy and security. It offers unlimited data with 256-bit encryption and has a no-logging policy for both free and paid users. I have been using ProtonVPN for quite some time and I can vouch for its performance and overall security.

Under the free tier, I have not encountered much reduction in speed, but there is limited access to servers from all around the world. For example, multiple servers from the US, Netherlands, and Japan are free for use but other than that, most countries are behind the paywall.

Nevertheless, since you have access to at least one server from the US, Europe, and Asia, you can unlock any geographically-restricted content without any issue. Apart from that, ProtonVPN also supports DNS Leak Prevention and Kill-switch to shut off the VPN tunnel in an emergency.

7-zip

Have you ever received an email with an attachment you can’t open on your computer? If so, 7-ZIP is one of the best apps you can download. This free Windows 10 app makes it easy to extract almost any type of compressed file on your Windows 10 PC, including ZIP, RAR, ISO, TAR, and other files.

With 7-Zip, you can also compress files before sending them if they are too large to send in an email attachment. On top of compression and extraction, 7-Zip also lets users add password protection or create files that self-extract.

Microsoft News

Staying informed is crucial, and you can use Windows 10’s Microsoft News app to keep up with all the news you need. After you’ve downloaded it, you can choose which topics you want to receive daily updates about, personalizing your stream of information. Additionally, the team will ensure that you get stories that are accurate and exciting. Whichever news you prioritize, Microsoft News supplies a wide range of topics, reliably sourced, to bring you breaking information on the news that matters most to you. You can even sync your preferences across the web. The app works in 20 different countries and collects content from more than 3,000 publications.

Slack

An internal communication tool is necessary for the smooth operation of any business. Although there are many options to choose from, Slack is one of the best. It is the only tool you need to enable your team members to communicate with each other effectively.

While your managers can create private chat groups to handle specific projects, they can also set up separate channels for each department. The collaboration between departments can happen instantly in separate rooms, and one search can lead anyone to the person they are looking for within your company.

WhatsApp

Don’t want to depend on a web browser to use WhatsApp on Windows 10, Then download the WhatsApp Desktop app on your device. With the app, you’ll be able to sync all your chats to your laptop or PC so that you can chat with your friends and family right from your desktop

The app especially comes in handy at the workplace, when you don’t want to be seen using your phone all that often. You can take my word for it.

Code writer

Are you a budding developer who’s on the lookout for a good text and code editor for your Windows PC? Then you should probably take a look at Code Writer. The app brings support for over 20 file types and features active syntax highlighting which updates as you edit your documents.

You can use it as a replacement for Notepad++ or any other quick edit apps that you’ve been using. I especially like the app for its clean and distraction-free user interface, which I’m sure most developers will appreciate.

Phones / Best Tips To Know Before Buying Any Smartphone by Koscyber21: 4:39am On Jan 03, 2022
Smartphones have become one of the important parts of any family. Apart from connectivity, they have become our lifeline as well as our window to the outside world.

Every two minutes, we need to glance at our phones to get updates, messages, and notifications. Considering the necessity of phones in our lives, it is essential to pay attention to certain factors before buying a cell phone.

Buying A Smartphone

Before you buy a new smartphone, assess your need and budget. After this, you may head out to look for the cheapest deal available.

Many resources can guide you in what you want on your smartphone or how to buy cell phones that will give you good value for money. Websites such Amazon, Best Buy, and eBay will give you a range of smartphones that are available within your

Knowing the Type Of You Want To Buy

Smartphones are in plenty. If you do not know which smartphone you should buy, then the chances are that you are lost. When looking to buy cell phones, decide whether you are looking for Android, iOS, or a Windows phone.

Knowing what you care about most

It’s the screen size? Camera quality? Battery life? This will help narrow down your choices. Phones like the iPhone 13 Pro, for example, pack incredible cameras that rival the quality you’d get from a DSLR.

If you’re a photographer then spending money here is a good idea. If not, you can likely save yourself a bundle.

Buy Smartphones With Minimum Of 32GB Storage

If you spot a good deal on a smartphone with 16GB storage ignore it. Instead, look for a smartphone with a minimum of 32GB of internal storage and if possible 64GB.

While a lot depends on your usage, ideally you would want to store games, photos, videos, and music on a phone. It would be nice to have an Android smartphone with a microSD card slot to expand your storage. But Apple doesn’t offer microSD support on iPhones.

Buy It On Discounts Deals

Look for deep discounts and promo deals around major holidays, especially Amazon’s Prime Day and Black Friday. And find out your grace period in case you need a quick return or exchange.

Questions A Buyer Should Always Ask A Seller When Sales Negotiation:

• Is there anything wrong with this smartphone?
• What can you tell me about the history of this smartphone?
• Do you have the warranty card on this smartphone?
• Have you made any repairs to this smartphone?

Indeed YouTube is the most popular and world-known site for video streaming, watching, and uploading from the heart of Google. When online content viewing and creation comes to mind, YouTube is the first site that the mind and the body vote on because of its popularity.

The only disadvantage of YouTube is that it collects your viewing information and always pushes up similar videos anytime you visit their site.

However, it helps you to watch or stream videos per your choice, and surfing the site becomes easy for you.

YouTube has some alternative sites for watching videos which most of them are much better customized, and the experience of video watching is no less compromising.

Let us discuss the top five YouTube alternatives for to know and enjoy your surfing

Dailymotion

Dailymotion has been around for a very long time since the starting of YouTube, life in Paris, France in 2005. It allows anyone who is willing to create an account to view personalized videos, and this site automatically prompts the videos as a comper to your choice.

It’s also a popular video uploading and sharing service that also offers a great user experience compared to YouTube. The Dailymotion homepage also displays a trending video, categories, and a search bar that allows the user to search for videos based on tags and a channel.

It has a disadvantage of HD quality uploads being limited to pro users and there is a 4GB video limit, which means around 1-hour video uploads are acceptable.

Metacafe (VideosHub)

Metacafe can also be considered as another great alternative to YouTube.Because it was one of the biggest and the oldest online videos platforms around until it disappeared in August 2021, Now it calls VideosHub so anytime you open Matecafe it will redirect you to videosHub homepage.

It hosts a similar mix of popular, funny, and random videos. They also group videos into different categories, including entertainment, sports, video games, movies, news, and television, and millions of unique viewers come to watch videos every month.

One thing that I love about Metacafe is that it ensures that the video you download is excellent, high quality and there is no duplication in their website.

Vimeo

Vimeo is a US-based website that was launched in late 2004 and it stands for “video ” with “me“. It is an indirect competitor to YouTube because of its limitations.

These consist of a large collection of powerful video tools that helps you in curating better videos and driving curating engagements. The only side you get a limitation is the amount of uploads weekly which is 500 MB.

But if you wish to get more space to upload your videos then you need to pay an extra price somewhere around $7 to $75 and 5GB of uploads every week for $7 per month.

DTube is one of the safest websites to stream videos because of its bash on Blockchain and the good news is that it is a completely decentralized platform the serves as an excellent alternative for YouTube. Blockchain is a source of cryptocurrency.

Webmasters / What Is Tor And How Does It Work? by Koscyber21: 12:55pm On Dec 17, 2021
Tor or Tor Browser is a system intended to enable online anonymity, composed of client software and a network of servers that can hide information about users’ locations and other factors which might identify their identity.

Imagine a message being wrapped in several layers of protection, every server needs to take off one layer. Thereby immediately deleting the sender information of the previous server.

The use of this system makes it more difficult to trace internet traffic to the user, including visiting Web sites, online posts. instant messages, and other communication forums. Tor browser is also known as the Onion Router.

It is intended to protect users’ personal freedom, privacy, and ability to conduct confidential business by keeping their internet activities from being monitored. The software is open -source and its network are free for everyone to use.

How Tor Browser works
Tor does not provide protection against traffic analysis, it cannot prevent traffic confirmation (this is called end-to-end correlation)

Tor Browser routes all your web traffic through the Tor network, anonymizing it. As Tor does not and by design cannot encrypt the traffic between an exilt node and the target server

And exilt node is in a position to capture any traffic passing through it which does not use end-to-use encryption such as TLS (Transport Layer Security).

Tor consists of a three-layer proxy, like layers of an onion. Tor Browser connects at random to one of the publicly listed entry nodes, bounces that traffic through a randomly selected middle relay, and finally spits out your traffic through the third and final exit node.

The images below illustrate,

As a result, don’t be surprised if Google or another service greets you in a foreign tongue. These services look at your IP address and guesstimate your country and language, but when using Tor, you will often appear to be in a physical location halfway around the world.

How Tor works, step 2
If you live in a regime that blocks Tor or need to access a web service that blocks Tor, you can also configure Tor Browser to use bridges. Unlike Tor’s entry and exit nodes, bridge IP addresses are not publicly listed, making it difficult for web services or governments, to blacklist those IP addresses.

Using Tor Browser Bundle (TBB)

The Tor Browser Bundle (TBB) includes everything you need to begin browsing the Internet anonymously and this browser is a modified version of Firefox.

The TBB lets you use Tor on Windows, OSX, and Linux without requiring you to configure a Web browser. It’s also a portable application that can be run from a USB flash drive, allowing you to carry it into any PC without installing it on a computer hard drive.

How To Download Tor Browser Bundle (TBB)

You can download The Tor Browser Bundle from the torproject.org website, it can be a single file of 13MB of a split version that is multiple files of 1.4MB which is easy to download on slower network connections.

If the torproject.org website is filtered from where you are. Or based on your location you can not access the torproject.org site just type “tor mirrors” on your search engine.

This includes alternative addresses to download the Tor Browser Bundle.

Phones / 7 Tips To Secure Your Iphone From Hackers by Koscyber21: 3:50am On Dec 15, 2021
Protecting or Securing your iPhone is the most important thing to do, even though iPhone has its own built-in security but it all depends on how to secure your privacy.

Here are the seven tips to follow to secure your iPhone from hackers

1. Use a PIN of Fingerprint Security
With all the things we now use on our smartphones for email, banking, browsing, shopping, it’s dangerous to leave them unsecured. Looking at your screen will protect your sensitive data and apps from meddling.

Just go into the setting app on your device, then the general tab and “Touch ID” and passcode lock from here you will be able to turn on either a numeric PIN or Touch ID fingerprint scanning.

If You do use a PIN steer clear of the two most common and therefore easily guessed combinations: 0000 and 1234.

2. Use Longer Passphrases

If you want more security than a four-digit provides, after all, there’s a one-in-10000 chance that someone will guess it correctly the first time, you can choose instead to use a passphrase.

To do this, go to your setting app, then ” Touch ID” and Passcode” off. This will allow you to create a longer and more-complex passcode with upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters or symbols.

3. Self Destruct

If you are serious about stopping intrudes then you can tell your phone to delete all data if it thinks someone is trying to break in.

Under the same page on settings, you can enable ” erase data” this will wipe the phone clean after ten incorrect guesses at the PIN. If you have Touch ID enabled then it will allow you three chances to get your fingerprint recognized, then it will revert to PIN entry.

4. Privacy Protection and settings

You have dozens of apps installed on your phone and they all have access to various features or data on your phone, some can use the camera, others the microphone, some might even be able to look at your photographs.

You are have had to give them each permission to do this at the time, but it’s easy to lose track- maybe there are apps you no longer use, and giving them access is an unnecessary risk.

Go into your settings app and then the “privacy” tap. Here you will be able to see which apps have which privileges, and turn them off or on.

Read More: https://koscyber.info/2021/12/14/7-tips-to-secure-your-iphone-from-hackers/

5. Turn Off Notifications

The ability to see a summary of notifications on the lock screen is handy, but if that gives away personal or confidential data then you be in trouble.

Remember, it will show the contents of messages you receive, your calendar for that day, and various other things.

6. Disable Siri

Just as with notifications, Siri can leak data even when your phone is locked. An attacker finding your phone unattended can ask him or her all sorts of questions that could reveal personal information.

To put a stop to this go to settings then “Touch ID and Passcode” and set “Allow access when locked” on sire to off.

7. Type Your Passcode Yourself.

Autofill is a handy feature that does exactly what it says on the tin, anytime that Safari sees a box asking for your name, password, or credit card detail, it fills them in for you. This is fine unless someone else happens to be using your phone.

To turn it off, go to setting, the general, and “Password, and AutoFill.

Nairaland / General / How To Secure Your Whatsapp Account by Koscyber21: 12:22am On Dec 12, 2021
You must secure your WhatsApp account before is too late. Meta’s WhatsApp messaging service is incredibly easy to set up and for that matter, the process of setting up your account is open and easy to be hacked if care is not taken.

Thankfully, Meta makes it simple to enable an extra layer of security on your account. That means you won’t lose your account if your six-digit activation codes get compromised

You can secure your Whatsapp account with the following tips

Never share your registration codes or two-step verification pin with anyone, not even your family members.
Enable two-step verification and provide email in case you forget your pin.
Set a device code
Be aware of who has physical access to your phone, if someone has access to your phone they can use your WhatsApp account without your permission.
Note: Anytime you receive an email to reset your two-step verification pin or registration codes and you did not request for it, please don’t click on the link.

It may be a scammer or a hacker who is attempting to get access to your phone number on WhatsApp.

How To Secure Your WhatsApp Accounts.
Follow the steps to best secure your WhatsApp account.

Open WhatsApp and tap on the three-dot on the top-right corn of the screen.
Hit “Setting” “Account ” then select two-step verification and provide “Email” to recover your account if in case you forget your pin.
Hit “Enable” and pick your six-digit activation pins

One more thing: it would be remiss of us if we didn’t mention that, in the past, Facebook (WhatsApp’s parent company) has gotten in trouble for using phone numbers provided for two-factor authentication for ad-targeting. The Federal Trade Commission told the company to stop the practice last year. When we asked WhatsApp, it categorically denied that it does this with its backup email addresses, and we think the benefits of providing an email address outweigh the risks, so don’t forget to add email for the recovering as mentioned before is very important.
