A student of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Ikot Akpaden, has been suspended “indefinitely” from the school for allegedly calling the university vice chancellor ‘foolish’ on Facebook. The student, Joy Nkanang, was in her second year in the department of performing arts before her suspension on May 9. An Abuja-based medical doctor, Daniel Eitokpah, who was detained after trying to revive a suicide victim, Michael Arowosaiye, has described his exoneration as providential. Arowosaiye, who was a gospel artist with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, had reportedly hanged himself on Tuesday at Sunnyvale Estate, Lokogoma District, Abuja. An Instagram user, Eitokpah Henri-Paul, had posted a series of videos on Wednesday, with a caption that read in part, “My brother, a medical doctor, along with two onlookers were detained for trying to help resuscitate a young man who committed suicide yesterday. Former Ekiti State Governor, Engr Segun Oni is in deeper trouble with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in his native Ifaki-Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government area. This is coming barely two weeks after losing an eligibility suit filed against Governor Kayode Fayemi at the Supreme Court. The party leaders have summoned Oni to come and defend himself within seven days against allegations levelled against him by party members. Oni, a former APC Deputy National Chairman (South), had challenged Fayemi’s victory at the May 12, 2018 governorship primary in which he came second after he had congratulated the winner. The ex-governor, in his suit, claimed that Fayemi was not eligible to stand as the APC flagbearer because he did not resign from office as Minister of Mines and Steel Development 30 days before the shadow election. Abdullahi Ganduje, incumbent Governor of Kano State, has secured a second term in office as winner of the governorship election. Ganduje, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won with a margin of more than 9,000 votes after the collation of figures for the supplementary elections held on March 23, 2019. Two local government areas had delayed the final collation till now: Kibiya and Nasarawa LGAs. However, the results for the LGAs in supplementary elections were declared on Sunday evening, the results for both LGAs were announced. For Kibiya LGA, Abba Yusuf, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 228 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 371 votes. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has provided a breakdown of how the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allegedly reduced his votes in 31 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Atiku made the claim in a petition he and his party filed before the presidential election tribunal. According to him, data from INEC server showed that he actually polled a total of 18,356,732 votes, to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari, who had 16,741,430 votes.
