Buhari summons Makinde, Fayemi, other South West Governors over ‘Amotekun’ security created

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has summoned the six governors from the South West region to a meeting at Aso Rock over Amotekun security created in the region.

According to the Daily Post who gathered the report that the summon is connected with the launch of a new security outfit code-named Amotekun by the six governors.

It was gathered that the six governors, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State had last year agreed to establish a security outfit that will put a stop to the insecurity situation in the region. Ahead of the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States as well as future elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that only national party chairmen will allow to submit candidates’ names to commission.

INEC who warned the 91 political parties on Friday, December 27, that it will not receive communication from any organ of the party, except the chairman and the National Executive Council of the party.

Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have killed one and arrested four suspects who attempted to rob a First Bank in the Mpape, a satellite town of Abuja.

The robbers, who broke into the bank around 10 am on Saturday, met resistance from the Police, Army and the Department of State Security, who cordoned the place minutes after responding to a distress call.

A gang of armed robbers are currently trapped inside a First Bank in Mpape area of Abuja, hours after attempting to rob the branch.

Men of the Police and Nigerian Army have currently barricaded the entrance, forcing the robbers to remain indoor since 10 am when they forced their way into the bank.

The armed robbers were said to have stormed the bank, shooting sporadically into the air to scare people away.

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Friday, December 27 has raised fresh alarm over Nigeria’s external debt profile suddenly grew from $10.32 billion to $81.274 billion (approximate to N24.947 trillion).

Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi on Thursday, December 26, has upgraded eleven traditional rulers to Grade A and granted autonomous status to five communities in the state.

The state government announced that the Executive Council approved the White Paper on the Justice J.K.B. Aladejana Chieftaincy Review Commission.

According to the State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Muyiwa Olumilua, the White Paper was considered and approved at the Council’s meeting on Thursday, 19th December, 2019.

Three teenagers on Wednesday, December 19, died after being buried alive with sand in Rigasa Community of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident created confusion in the community as two other teenagers were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

Nigerian Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has condemned the the Department of State Security (DSS) invasion of a court and re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore, by declining to receive an anti-corruption award days after the incident.
