United States senator, Cory Booker, has joined Senator Bob Menendez, a ranking member of the US Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, in condemning the rearrest of Omoyele Sowore in court.

On Friday, Menendez had said the brutal manner in which Sowore arrested was a blatant miscarriage of justice and promised to have his country intervene on the matter.

Booker, who also reacted on Friday, described the situation as dangerous and promised to assent to any move that will uphold the rule of law in the country.

The defectors led by the House of Representatives candidate of the ANN for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Akeem Amosun, in the last general elections, said that they elected to move to PDP to form a vibrant and formidable opposition in the Gateway State.

Operatives of the Department of State Services,DSS. on Friday morning disrupted the ongoing trial of activists Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare, attempting to rearrest the two men, who were only released from its detention on Thursday evening.

The DSS operatives also chased away the presiding judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu while also brutalising a journalist with a popular television station.

The Lagos State police command on Thursday, December 5, has arrested Smart Adeyemi over the breach at Baruwa swamp along the System 2B of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in Alimosho area which resulted to the death of two persons.

The police also identified the dead as those who came to the river in the area for spiritual bath.

The prophet who coordinated the spiritual bath is said to have escaped after the candle he lit for the cleansing process resulted in an explosion.

Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who once represented Kogi west senatorial district in the National Assembly has been defeated in the just concluded supplementary poll in his senatorial zone.

Melaye was defeated by Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to become the senator-elect of the Kogi west senatorial district.

The supplementary poll was held after the November 16 election in the district was declared inconclusive by INEC.

Smart Adeyemi was leading by 80,118, while Dino Melaye was trailing with 59,548 votes. The final result after the Saturday, November 30, supplementary election showed that Adeyemi defeated Melaye by a total of 88,373 votes to 62,133. READ FULL STORY HERE

According to Channels Television reports that Justice Adumein Otisi, who led the judgement, threw out the appeal filed by PDP’s Jeremiah Useni for lacking merit.

Election results of the Five out of the Seven local government areas in the senatorial district has been announced so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in the Kogi West senatorial rerun election show that PDP’s Dino Melaye is poised to lose his seat in the Senate to his closest rival, Smart Adeyemi of the APC.

Of the seven local government areas in the senatorial district, five have been announced.

Of the five local government results announced, Mr Adeyemi has polled a total of 52,389 while Mr Melaye trails with 37,856.
