Politics / Re: Criticize President Buhari: Don't Insult Him by ladgentle(m): 11:13am On Mar 28, 2020
You guys should not confuse HATRED FOR BUHARI with LOVE FOR NIGERIA. It's a free world, and you are free to hate Buhari and hurl insults at him. While that gives a weird satisfaction, it doesn't equate to a mindset a nation like Nigeria needs at a time like this, for advancement and prosperity.

And no, not all us who are not insulting Buhari supported Buhari or still supports him. We just want want what is good for Nigeria. And we don't see how insulting him will help us achieve that.

Yenefer:
It is becoming almost second nature for most Nigerians, both the educated and non-educated classes, to cross the line while pouring out their hearts on national issues. I agree, there are ample question marks on how the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has acted on and reacted to socio-political, economic, and religious matters; spanning from federal character, insurgency, ethno-religious skirmishes, education, malfeasance, to now presidential invisibility before this coronavirus pandemic.

Naturally, we feel betrayed, used, and insignificant to the presidency. Not paling in comparison to status-quo that should be, your feelings are indeed valid. But letting this emotional pain lead you to hurl insults of all sorts at President Buhari, as rampant online, is an overreaction. As you call him unprintable, reprehensible names and ridicule him through jokes/memes, remember he is fallible, someone's husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and holds office of President of Nigeria. It is enough to beg to differ with and criticize constructively his leadership style plus policies. Using constitutional and moral means to show displeasure are in order. Look emotional intelligence's way.

Disturbingly, some people even wish Buhari death, hoping news of his demise filters in soonest. If that's not a representation of the Scriptures' observation that "The heart of man is desperately wicked," then it must be of something worse. If you fall in this category, kindly stop now! Such comments are humor taken too far.

As events unfold and we watch with disappointment, anticipating the National Assembly does the needful and saves the day, let us (Nigerians) amplify our voices to be critically loud enough, not insulting enough.

Checks & Balances

The 1999 Constitution has neither checks nor balances. There are zero consequences for any breach of the wordings of the Constitution. The make-up of the states as vassals of the central government does not permit the fake federating units to disagree with the central government and call for negotiations of a point of discord. There are no means of enforcing any judgement given by any court...
There is no way whatsoever a president could be curtailed or contained if and when he goes overboard! There is no way to manage a rampaging president!

Some newts write that the current president does not obey the Rule of Law? Well, that is NOT exactly true! The fact is that by the 1999 Constitution, the Law DOES NOT rule! Where's the Rule of Law in that Constitution? The Nigerian President is the Law! He doesn't have to obey any court rulings because there isn't any means to enforce them!

The national assembly? Come on; read your Constitution! The Section 5 has vested ALL executive actions upon the president! He controls all aspects of security, finance and whatever! The Nigerian President is a super god! All he needs to do is to employ Executive Orders and hinge them on national security among others. We could bring up tens of clauses in the Constitution that allow him to do as he likes!
Severally we wrote about the inordinate codification of fascist clauses in that Constitution. We studied the History of that Constitution in order to understand the Spirit of it. The fact that the PDP presidents attempted to avoid those codes and clauses does not mean they weren't there or they couldn't use them. They could but sparingly used them!

Some Learned Illiterates; graduates of the Brainwashing Facilities labelled the Nigerian Law Schools had been negating obvious facts and calling us names all the while. We were always restrained and tried to stay on the path of enlightening the public on the dangerous document foisted upon us all. They mischievously lulled people into silence. We showed them aspects of the 1999 Constitution that proved that the Judiciary was subservient and subsumed under the powers of the president, they protested and called us Intellectual Terrorists! No problem!
Now, the president has removed the Chief Justice of the Federation without recourse to the NJC as dictated by the statutes employing Section 5 and national security as an excuse. Very legal. What could the Bar and Bench do now? We want our so-called legal folks to inform us how they could get the president to reverse this order. In fact, we want them to show us how the Constitution says the president should be punished for breaching this aspect of the Constitution. We want to know how they would remove the Sharia Judge and jail the president for this assault!

Ndi charge and bail lawyers talking rubbish since and defending the 1999 Constitution, come and tell us how you, your NBA, NJC, or whatever could stop this atrocious event and throw the president into jail. If you cannot tell us how it could be reversed and get it reversed, then you must agree that the Law Schools duped you of your school fees! You were duped so you could ask for a refund...or sue them! After all, the Rule of Law exists...in your minds!

What a mess we call a country! The 1999 Constitution has no checks and balances! There is no way to enforce it! It is a scam! You were trained at the Law Schools to interpret the Great Scam as Law! That is the truth! Now, go ahead and deny it as usual; that's what brainwashed people do!

That Constitution must go! If the NBA and NJC had joined the fight to discard the 1999 Constitution all this time, we might have made some progress; but they had been the greatest defenders of the biggest Heist of the 20th Century!
Shame!!!

I agree with you completely. But unfortunately, Nigerians will rather rant than take decisive course of action that are solution-oriented.
Family / Re: My Experience - The Scourge Of PHCN Estimated Billing by ladgentle(m): 7:15pm On Jun 20, 2018
Emmerlee:
Hello House,

The subject matter refers.. Guys what is really happening in Nigeria? Why are we all not making noise on the current grand fraud being perpetuated via PHCN estimated billing? What really is the reason PHCN is unable to supply prepaid meters to ALL households even when we are READY to pay double for each one? The unprecedented level of grand thieving that is happening in PHCN in broad day light defies all logic. It is unbelievable how callous we have become as a people.

I live at Kernel Street, off Amosu Street in Bode Thomas (Surulere LGA). As of January 2016, my postpaid PHCN bill was exactly N5,501.76. This was followed by a steady, continuous rise to N22,416.00 by January 2017 (407.5% increase). As of today, the 20th of June 2018, my MONTHLY estimated bills hover between N24,000.00 and N35,000.00. To be precise, the estimated bill given to me by PHCN for the month of June 2018 is exactly N29,760.00! In a country where minimum wage is N18,000 and house rent is paid by God's special grace.. What exactly is wrong with these people for goodness sake? How can you be doing this to us and be getting away with it because those who ought to care do not care?

I live in a 2 bedroom flat, I'm single and hardly in the house because of the nature of my job except for weekends. I also don't sleep at night with the Air Conditioner on because of health issues (knee related). I hardly have time to use my electric iron so I dry clean my clothes. My fridge has the popular advanced Smart Inverter Compressor technology that saves so much energy and can be powered by even a small generator. What exactly is in my small house that I should be paying an average of N30,000 every month to PHCN? I am finding it so hard to understand this level of wickedness and it's beginning to affect my sanity.

Before you ask what I've done about this please find details of my efforts at resolving this over the years:

1. I have been to the PHCN offices at Mushin and Ijora to complain (including their Doyin office which is closest to my house), nothing has come out of it.
2. I have written letters and sent emails to EKEDP (customercare@ekedp.com), nothing has come out of it.
3. I have written a letter to the Honourable Minister for Power, Works and Housing (letter was acknowledged as received) and a copy of the letter made to the Commercial Manager, Eko Electric Distribution Board, Mushin which was received with an official stamp by EKEDP customer care unit on the 13th of March 2017. Again, nothing came out of it.
4. I have sent emails to NERC (Eko Forum) on two different occasion this year to complain about this massive fraud going on in my area. The first time I wrote to Eko Forum, the PHCN marketer in charge of my area was summoned somehow because after that email he came over to my house to take an inventory of the electronic appliances in the house. After this he assured me that something will surely be done about my bills. It's about 3 months since that time and the crazy bills have continued. I wrote another email to them and they replied the following day that my request had been forwarded to EKEDP. Till today nothing has been done and the bills are still soaring high!

PHCN officials never come to the house to take Meter readings. They are just not interested. I was recently out of town for about 2 weeks with the house under lock and key but this does not stop PHCN from increasing my bills every month (whether there's usage or not). It may also interest you to know that PHCN officials, as is the norm of recent, always disconnect my building for at least 5 to 7 days each month following the inability of one of our tenants to pay up on time. Whenever this happens we all suffer blackout that last for several days while we wait for my neighbor to pay his own portion of the estimated bill which is around the same range as mine. This is so because PHCN supplies all the apartments in the house power via one cable that runs from the street pole to the building. Despite all the inconveniences PHCN will still proceed to punish us every month, with extremely high, unjustified bills! It beats my imagination how wicked these people are.

You are expected to pay up ANY bill you are given, regardless of the amount and regardless of usage. How you pay is none of their business. As I write this our power line has been disconnected again (all 4 flats) because one of our tenants is still running around looking for money to pay up. This is after I paid N30,000 and my next door neighbour paid N34,000. My people, do you really think this is sustainable? I'm tired of the whole thing. I feel as though I've been kidnapped and forced to part with my hard earned money every month. These guys are likely on a mission to ensure our monthly salaries end up in their pockets. The bills are still rising and will soon get to N50,000+ per month at this rate. Companies around my area (with lots of Air Conditioners and other heavy electronic gadgets) pay an average of N10,000 to N14,000 each month from my investigations, and three bedroom residential apartments with prepaid meters do not pay up to 20% of what I dole out to PHCN each month. why are defenseless Citizens being made to go through hell in Nigeria? I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of Nigerians groaning from this fraud. Where is our conscience as a people? Is this how we want to attain greatness without the fear of God?

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), empowered by the Electric Power Sector Reform (EPSR) Act, 2005 stated on their website that it is the customer’s right to be notified in writing ahead of disconnection of electricity service by the DisCo serving the customer in line with NERC’s guidelines. PHCN does not write before disconnection. They are so quick to disconnect within 2 minutes and require us to pay N2000 per flat (N8,000 in total from my building) before they can reconnect, regardless. Who then are the laws made for? You complain, nothing comes our of it. You write letters to the authorities, nothing comes out of it. Maybe I should consider sueing them to court for all the inconveniences caused me over the years, but then will anything come out of it? I am Tired.

Maybe I should consider asking them to come remove my meter completely (they don't read it anyways). I'm tired of paying bills I do not understand. Any suggestions on how to handle this will be appreciated. Thanks for reading my rants, I really hope I don't end up with clinical depression at this rate.

I'm going through the same ordeal in my area. I went to the closest Ikeja Distribution Company to complain and the explained the situation this way. The said it was not practicable to meter every electricity consumer in the short term, NERC mandated them to meter the transformers instead. So the total value of power, used as indicated by the transformer readings, is shared equally to all electricity consumers on that transformer.

Religion / Re: How Do You Fight An Ancestral Python Spirit? by ladgentle(m): 2:25pm On Oct 18, 2017
Guy, this is not just an MFM issue as this is not a regular deliverance case. This is pure spiritual warfare matter which requires you to assert your authority in Christ over this demonic spirit. What you need is understanding and not formulars.

1. Understand that in Christ Jesus, you are a new creature. A brand new creature. So in effect, in Christ, you died to whatever agreement your ancestors had with this demon. In Christ you have been disconnected from every negative flow in your blood line.
2. Understand that you have been given the power of attorney to use the name of Jesus. At the name of Jesus EVERY knee bows, including that of this Python spirit.
3. Understand that you are seated in Christ Jesus far above all principalities, powers, dominion and every name that is named. See Ephesians 1&2.

When the spirit attacks, speak the Word. Before you sleep declare the Word. Tell the demonic spirit that 'Christ has spoiled principalities and powers and made an open show of them'. That means he has disarmed the power of darkness.

Tell the demonic force that you 'have been translated from the powers of darkness into the kingdom of His dear son'. Their authority over you has been annulled.

With this knowledge, resist this Python spirit, and he will flee from you!

I think people misunderstand what real prosperity means. Prosperity is the superimposition of the divine life in the human spirit over the natural. The divine life is superior to the natural life because it operates on highers laws. That was why Jesus could walk on water, multiplied loaves of bread etc. The born again christian has the divine life. So prosperity is NOT cutting corners or looking for cheap means to get one's desire. It is simply employing higher laws for the advancement of the plans and purposes of God for the benefit of mankind.

Nigeria is too big as a black nation to be governed by one man. Nigeria needs to be decentralized for things to work. We are black people....we aren't organized like whites to maintain and run a successful country considering how big and diversed we are.

Nigeria needs to function as a united regions just as we have USA, UAE, United Kingdom, etc.

Nigeria will work better if we restructure Nigeria to become United Regions of Africa; URA. With each region having their own Police, state laws and Premiere and then we have council of premieres comprising the 6 premieres from Northeast, Northwest, North central, Southwest, Southeast, South south and then we can then have one prime minister to act as the president or leader of Nigerian central government and his job will be mostly about foreign policies, national security.

With this system, government and development can get to grassroots and every region and tribe will hold their premiere responsible for not developing their region.

This will lessen the so much burden on the federal government.

As for natural resources like crude oil, all oil producing states can be made to remit say 45% of their revenue from crude oil to the central government and from that 45% revenue, there will be a certain % mapped for the development and assistance of States with less or no natural resources to ensure they develop equally like other states with abundant mineral resources.

This will kill tribalism and religious nepotism among Nigerian leaders and presidents and Nigeria will begin to work like a normal nation like Europe and Asia if not, Nigeria will continue to lag behind in the comity of nations till Jesus comes cry

I love this your submission. I wish other proponents of restructuring can be this explicit.

Femi Fani-Kayode Is A Bigoted, Anti-Igbo Tribalist By Femi Aribisala

The year was 1965. I was an innocent starry-eyed 13 year-old and Nigeria was in turmoil. It was the era of the “wetie,” when the houses of politicians and key public-figures were burnt down in the brouhaha that was then Western Nigeria.

Xby Counterflix

We lived in Oke-Ado in Ibadan and our next-door neighbour was Chief Ogundiran, a minister in the government of Chief S.L. Akintola, the Premier of the Western Region. (Ogundiran was famous for only wearing white.) In the spirit of the times, a mob came early one morning and burnt down his house. He jumped out of the window and managed to escape.

Fani-Power, Fani-igbo: I was having private lessons in Mathematics at the home of a colleague, Enitan Abiodun, when we heard the noise of a crowd outside. We rushed to the veranda to see Chief Remi Fani-Kayode (alias Fani-Power), then Deputy Governor of the Western Region, standing on the seat of a moving convertible. He was surrounded by a mob, which was shouting and hailing him. On hearing the noise, Enitan’s mother rushed to the veranda shouting “Awo!” only to discover that the people outside were not supporters of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, but those of his arch-enemies.

The shout of “Awo!” by Mrs. Abiodun brought the procession to a screeching halt.

“Who said that? Who said that?” demanded the mob, enraged.

“Fani-Power” turned and looked up at us. His eyes were the usual blood-shot red. At the time, many claimed it was because he regularly smoked Indian-hemp. Fani-Kayode pointed to our building and identified to his thugs that the offending shout came from our direction. We did not know that the floor of the convertible he was standing in was loaded with empty bottles. His thugs reached for the bottles and rained them down on us as we all scrambled back inside the house for dear life.

Like father, like son: That was 48 years ago. Today, Femi Fani-Kayode, the 53-year-old son of “Fani-Power,” continues in the mischievous tradition of his father: throwing dangerous missiles at the innocent. He recently wrote an incendiary article entitled: “The Bitter Truth About the Igbo,” in which he maligned the Igbos and virtually told them to get out of Lagos and leave Lagos for the Yorubas.

What is peculiar about the article is that Femi Fani-Kayode himself is no more Lagosian than the Igbos he berates. The Fani-Kayodes are not from Lagos. They are from Ile-Ife in Osun State. Femi Fani-Kayode’s only legitimate claim to Lagos is that he was born there.

But then so were many Igbos who are, therefore, Lagosians. Moreover, Igbo-Lagosians have one up on Femi Fani-Kayode. They live in Lagos. Femi Fani-Kayode does not. Igbo-Lagosians work in Lagos and pay taxes to the Lagos State government. Femi Fani-Kayode does not. Therefore, what right does he have to write his diatribe against them? What right does he have to maintain Lagos does not belong to Igbo-Lagosians?

Having thrown these bottles maliciously, Femi Fani-Kayode decided to throw a few more. He wrote another invective entitled: “A Word For Those Who Say I Am A Tribalist.” In order to demonstrate that he was not anti-Igbo, he presented the cliché that some of his best friends are Igbos. As proof, he detailed three Igbo women (some of them happily-married) he claims to have had affairs with. Only God knows how this shows he is not biased against the Igbos. Slave-traders slept with their slaves. Is that proof they were not racist?

The jury is out already. Femi Fani-Kayode is a bigoted tribalist. Only a tribalist can say he is not anti-Igbo and then say this about the Igbos: “(They are) collectively unlettered, uncouth, uncultured, unrestrained and crude in all their ways.” “They have no restraining factors because money and the acquisition of wealth is their sole objective and purpose in life.”

Clearly, Femi Fani-Kayode is out of control. He has become something of a train-wreck. He was President Obasanjo’s agent-provocateur for so long, where he maligned elder-statesmen like Yakubu Gowon; he no longer knows how to speak with decorum.

The fact that we have allowed others to thrive and settle in our land and share it with us does not mean that we have stopped owning that land. The suggestion that Lagos is a ”no-man’s land’ and that the Igbo or any other nationality outside the Yoruba generate up to 55 per cent of it’s revenue or business is absolutely absurd and frankly it has no basis in reality or rationality. It is not only a dirty lie but it is also very insulting. Guests, no matter how welcome, esteemed, cherished and valued they are, cannot become the owners of the house no matter how comfortable they are made to feel within it. Those guests will always be guests. Lagos belongs to the Yoruba and to the Yoruba alone. ALL others that reside there are guests, though some guests are far closer to us than others. The Igbo are the least close, the most distant and the least familiar with our customs and our ways. They ought to be the last to be claiming our heritage and coveting our land and neither can they claim to have made any real input to our glaring success. For them to think otherwise is nothing but delusion.

This is a general misconception, the CBN do not withdraw from the Foreign Reserves and in fact has added about $500 million in the last two weeks -- $75 million this week alone.

For the record, the money the CBN is auctioning is in accordance with 2017 budget provision -- official exchange rate of N305 with the oil benchmark pegged at $44 a barrel. Therefore, it is part of N2.2 trillion stipulated in the 2017 budget to come from oil revenue.

The subsidised rate is still above N305/$ official rate, commercial banks are directed not to sell more than 20% above the official rate, which is about N375/$. This fund is needed to fund capital projects in Naira and not dollars. Hence, the exchange.

So whether we can sustain it or not, 2017 budget must be funded, either through loan or revenue generation. Let just pray militants continued to yield to the agreement.

Debate like this is what makes me to frequent the nairaland platform. Please guys keep it up.

hoodboy:
what agreement, did November record sign with majek to negotiate and collect funds on his behalf, maybe Timi negotiated with the wrong agent. did he demand legal proof from November records to show they were authorised to give out the license to Majek's song

That's my thinking too. Perhaps Charles Novia should publish his agreement with Majek. I hope he won't come out and say it was a verbal agreement
Politics / Re: Poll For 2face February 6th Protest: Are You For Or Against? by ladgentle(m): 7:37am On Feb 04, 2017
The truth of the matter is that this protest is too general and vague. In other words it is not actionable. So how will you judge the success or otherwise of this protest. Previous protests had some actionable demands, viz: reverse fuel price hike, reverse election annulment, reinstate sacked workers and the likes of it. But this tuface protest is just another opportunity to keep bashing PMB. At the end of it, things continue the way they are. Of course I don't expect tuface to lead a protest with actionable demands. Almost all Nigerians don't understand what the real issues her. Because if they do, they will know it not about Buhari. If you remove Buhari today it won't change the country's balance of trade that has been skewed against us since time immemorial. It won't make us an exporting nation over night. And these are factors that make our naira to depreciate at the speed of light which in turn drive inflation which is the reason why food prices are so high today!Abeg I tire to type. I tire for Nigerians.

Politics / Re: Why I Support FRCN's Governance Code For NGOS by ladgentle(m): 6:12am On Jan 12, 2017
greenpasture:

Let me address your initial post here. I completely agree with you that non profits should be regulated and I agree with you that churches are not specifically targeted. Neither are the thousands of private trusts and foundations managed directly by families under wills, Deed of gifts or settlement.

This is the problem.

The Code is part of the dysfunction of Nigerian government similar to a civil defence official arresting you for not having a fire extinguisher in your car. It is an abuse of office and of the law and sound societies are not built this way.

1. The NFP code is not promulgated law. It did not pass through NASS neither did it require or receive the assent of either GEJ or PMB. It is a guidance code without any sanction for breach whatsover. And why would this be? Perhaps because it contains no sanctions or enforcement power. Let us go to point 2.

2. The FRCN is NOT the body tasked with supervising NFP management structures or governance. This is admitted by the FRCN in clause 35 of the code. It only has remit for financial statements. The body tasked with Managing companies AND NPF's is the corporate affairs commission, the Federal Inland Revenue ( FIRS). The latter issues them with Tax Exemption Certificates while the former supervises and investigates their operations under pursuant to sections 315(2) and 606 of the CAMA where the interest of the public so demands.

3. The code published by FRCN ( being at best subordinate orders or guidance/practice notes has attempted to amend two pieces of superior Federal legislation by fiat. Namely the CAMA and the Trustee Investments Act without legislative approval and without reconciling conflicting clauses Without first amending these two pieces of legislation through the NASS the FRCN code is void to the extent of such inconsistency.

We need to avoid getting trapped in the matrix here. Many people including myself feel upset with the way many religious bodies comport themselves. Anti church sentiment is high because of the opaque way many of them manage money and especially their failure to translate this into better lives for the poor in society. Many others see this as an opportunity to score political points - blaming GEJ or PMB. This is also part of the cleverly constructed Nigerian matrix that gets people to waste their energies and focus. What is really important is that things be done legally - this is the foundation of a just society

The FRCN over reached its powers and created a potential legal traffic jam. Happily it has been resolved for now. May I also point out that many private Foundations and Family Trusts would have been affected with the loss of international donor support and the inability of Trustees to provide for beneficiaries ( many of them aged people and under aged children)

I have enjoyed reading many of your posts and I like the way you try to isolate key points for the reader. I wish you a prosperous and fulfilled new year.
