I bought a nigerian used benz 190E. The car consumes excesive fuel. I dnt recomend benz to any buyer.

Benz 190 is quite an old car. regardless of that, it's not supposed to be that thirsty. 2km/litre??

The car looks good I hope you ran the VIN? If you're around Ikeja you can use the same mechanic a member of this forum uses and they took care of his bmw.

i m yet to pay for the car. i have run a VIN check, not comprehensive anyway. does the mechanic specialize on BMW cars alone?

Thanks so much for your advices, i think I will join the bmw club. With E46 320i (2001 model) I think I m good to go. The interior of that car is so lovely. To me, it beats even 2005 Camry. I pray the one i will choose doesn't give me issues.

@Locomike, please Benz model do you drive and what"s ur experince witth it

@ locomike and cne010, I grow up in Ibadan too. I passed in front of because ( Ile Akede) to schoool everyday in sec schl days

What do guys you think about this ride?

Err op, you should follow your heart. Be a man and decide what you want.

NB: if you're gonna eventually buy a pencil light abi na eraser darkness, do buy the following:

1. Double barrel gun with magazines,
2. Whistle/alarm or anything which produces a very high pitch sound.
3. Extra battery
4. Extra ECU/brainbox
5. Extra shocks (front and rear)
6. Steering lock (both local and foreign type)
7. Pedal locks (both local and foreign type)
8. Immobilizer
9. Tracking device
10. Comprehensive insurance
11. Car cage with reinforced steel, anti burglar gates and 3 tamper proof padlocks
Finally,

Alway purchase only 5litre fuel max (you'll need this when all luck runs out).

GOODLUCK!

Bros, you mean Camry attracts thieves to that extent. Lmao

Both Japan and Germany makes excellent vehicles and you choice is based on the specific models that you can afford.

I assure you that theres nothing plasticky about an LS450 or Acura NSX. And there's lots of plasticky on a base model Golf.

You will regret buying a BMW or Benz since you are on a skin, so just buy your pencil, or is it eraser, and blend into the traffic.

In my opinion serious BMW/Benz buyers do it because they love the brand not because there are no alternatives.

What do mean by I'm on skin?
Car Talk / Need Your Advice, German Or Japanese Car? by ladycool430: 9:59am On Nov 04, 2014
I strongly love anything made in GERMANY. I currently drive Volkswagen golf 3, that's my first car anyway. I have driven my brother's and sister Honda and Toyota cars respectively in the past. Japanese cars looks like plastics to me. I have plan to switch to BMW (2001 320i)or BENZ (2003 c-class) soonest.

Benz vs Bmw, please wch is better?

My second concern is COST, shouldn't I overdo and just go for 2001 Toyota camry which I think is more economical to fuel and maintain. I spend an average of 30k/month On my golf. 20k fuel, 10k thereof on maintenance. But, I won't be as happy driving On Toyota.

House, what do you think?

I have changed the air filter today, and I filled my gas tank so that I can compare the fuel efficiency.

It's obvious you have NOT read your Owner's Manual. 20W-50 oil weight is too thick! Even a 1985 Volkswagen Golf II wouldn't be happy with that oil weight.

Another point...you don't state what engine your car has. This is VERY important. What country was the car imported from?

2.0 litre, 4 cylinder engine, injector. it was imported from Germany. this is a shot from the manual

Mobil has got lots of grades/types oils and so has Total. Which Mobil in particular? Which Total in particular?

for the first and second time, I used Mobil super
1000, third time Total quartz 5000. both are 20w50

DECOtech:
1. When you did the servicing, did you change the air filter and oil filter?
2. Have you checked if your MAF or MAP sensor is working?
3. How about the condition of your thermostat? Is it still in place? Has it been removed? Is it faulty?
4. What oil type (not brand) did you use before and now?
_
Having all this questions in mind, a mechanic would quickly jump into "trial/error" mode which won't be in ur best interest.
_
The 97 golf is OBD2 compliant. Get your car scanned first of all cos the problem could even be electrical.
_
Pls don't use oil treatment in your engine. The white man spent millions of dollars in research to give you the quality you have in the best of engine oils. You can't beat them to it with just N500 oil treatment.
_
You can use oil treatment when you want to run palm oil or groundnut oil in your engine.
_
God bless you.

1. I changed oil filter but air cleaner, NO
2. don't know if MAF n MAP sensors work, pls how do
I confirm that?
3. I bought the car Tokunbo in March, I don't know if
the thermostat has been removed or not.
4. for the first and second time, I used Mobil super
1000, third time Total quartz 5000. both are 20w50

IdaraCHODB raised a good point, I think the fuel efficiency dropped when i switch from Mobil to Total oil.

What engine oil did you use during the last service?

the car mileage when I bought it was 183000km, I serviced it that very day using Mobil.
at 186000km, I used Mobil.
at 190000km (the last service), I used total

my mileage at present is 192000km+

I drive 1997 Volkswagen golf. I got it 7 months ago. my fuel tank capacity is 60litres (plus reserve). I have taken note of fuel consumption rate of the car several times. it used to give me 400km (+/-15km) thereabout when I just got the car in March till around June. After which its fuel efficiency start dropping till today. I get roughly around 300km with 60litres gas now. I use AC all the time anyway, I read the car' s review online. I discovered the full tank should give up to 500km (combining city and highway trips). I drive on Lekki expressway to and fro mostly. So far, I have not done any work on the engine apart changing the oil after 4000km.

Going through a thread on NL now, I saw posts of cars covering between 500 - 600km with the same quantity of fuel- even SUVs and cars that are by far older than my golf (1990 Toyota carina)

PLS, WHAT CAN I DO
