Politics / Re: Open Letter To Seun And Politics Section Moderator(s) by Lagosway: 3:21am On Dec 27, 2009
@poster,

Very well said.
The problem is not likely with the moderators; they probably have been instructed to ignore
tribe-bashing threads since those threads are likely to pique the interest of many.

Hope Seun will respond to your appeal and do something.
As much I respect  freedom of speech, however,  a forum should not be about tearing people apart. If anything, it should be about fostering relationship and building a better future
for all.
Seun, this is call-out for you to do something. Enough of promoting hate - directly or indirectly.

Thanks for sharing. Incredible pictures!!
Also want to commend you in your belief that all is not lost in Nigeria.
Keep up the good work.

@transformR

All of us should celebrate together over the resurgence of Lagos under Fashola.  We are all Lagosians.
Hopefully,  more states will follow suit in this direction.
Thanks for sharing too!
Politics / Re: Terrifying View Of The Split Up Of Nigeria - Apocalypse for North & South? by Lagosway: 8:07pm On Oct 22, 2009
I, as a peaceful loving human being, would love to see a peaceful dissolution of
Nigeria if we ever get to that junction. However, I am a realist who knows that
dissolution will not occur as a result of a referendum amongst all the ethnic groups.
More than likely, a break-up is likely to be triggered by an event similar to
the events of the 60's (Pray not)

Here we are speculating what minorities would do. It is foolhardy to assume what
the position of any minority group would be. As they say in the old US of A, “assumption is the mother of all failures.
The writer of this article has been very objective and has captured some likely
scenarios, but it seems that we are hard of hearing.  Some dismiss the fears
of this writer as fear mongering and some are hell bent on treading on a path that can only lead to perdition.
War is hell! Those who have experienced it never hope to see it again and will never wish it for their worst enemy.

To put it in real perspective, there will be mayhem, hunger, deaths, infectious diseases,
refugees, etc.  Life as you know it today will seize! You will wish for Nigeria.
No fear mongering –just the facts ma’am.
Betrayals will be everywhere, because when alliances are formed, it would not be based
upon sentiments, such as; long standing relationship, ethnic similarities etc, but on self preservation.
It is everyman for himself!

For example, if Jaw folks (not picking on Ijaw, pls permit me) perceive that their interests
would be better served by the North, they could roll with the North. It is whoever you think
will be victorious you’ll align with.

Point is, in times of war, you can never assume who your friends are because friends
will turn to foes, and foes to friends.  I’ll recommend we acquaint ourselves with WWII
and other recent wars to understand the brutality of war and war betrayals.

The solution to all of this is simple: Demand good governance in your state.
Join a social conscious group, write articles, vent your displeasure on Nairaland,
Nigeria Village Sq, and other similar outlets. Let your focus be solely on your state
for now. Do not concern your self with the affairs of neighboring states unless
they interfere with yours. Let your gaze be laser-like on your governor.
Offer alternative opinions to your governor when necessary.

Success of one governor will eventually breed success in other sates as
constituents begin to demand for good governance. It will be similar to the period when we had regions.
Awo success in the West was lauded all over and it spurs other regions to respond with their own initiatives.
Did you know that Kano used to be the textile capital of Africa? It was Ahmadu Bellos’s
response to the West.  Success begets success.

I believe Nigeria it is for now until such a time that we are educated enough
to form separate countries without war and its consequences.

Good-luck to all.

Politics / Re: Yoruba Film Makers "Alaba Piracy Might Escalate To Intra-tribal War" by Lagosway: 4:32am On Sep 28, 2009
Why turn this into another tribal war on NL? The man was only expressing his concerns and fears that this could potentially lead to a tribal war.
Piracy of this magnitude is very bad business for our young movie industry regardless whether they are Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa movie! Nobody wants their work stolen.
Culture / Re: What Is Wrong With Nigerian Youths In The Uk? by Lagosway: 12:06am On Sep 22, 2009
I have never heard of any Nigerian gang in the US, however, I am sure there are some oddball Nigerian kids in AA gangs.
Please stop calling people Akata, Ireke, Kokoye etc. These names are derogatory! Life in the US is conducive for us Africans today because of the past struggles of AA.
Remember MLK?
