Education / Landmark Unveils Digital Teacher Series to Enhance Quality Learning Experience by LandmarkUnivers: 2:59pm On Aug 19, 2020
LANDMARK UNIVERSITY UNVEILS THE MAKING OF A DIGITAL TEACHER SERIES TO FURTHER ENHANCE QUALITY LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS

Landmark has again raised the antenna of its commitment to quality learning delivery and global best practices with the webinar titled "Beyond COVID-19: The Making of a Digital Teacher (I)" organised by its Centre for Systems and Information Services on Monday, 17th August 2020.

The aptness of the webinar was espoused in the context of teacher-student interaction in the digital era. The webinar actually exposed members of faculty of the University to the technological skills required for effective digital pedagogy which included communication and time management; patience, compassion and empathy; technical skills and tools; and technological literacy. The webinar also enhanced their ability to navigate the tools and skills needed for working and living in a digital society and providing instructions to students in the same skills.

Giving his remarks at the webinar, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adeniyi Olayanju noted that the University has the responsibility of providing necessary support for the faculty to deliver quality service to her students and that was why the University facilitated a robust learning environment with the state of the art smart boards in classes and lecture theatres, stable and fast internet connections, a robust learning management system among others. In furtherance of this effort in the reality of COVID-19, the Vice-Chancellor said that it was imperative for the University to upgrade her teaching approach. “There is a need to upgrade content to meet the demands of this present digital and e-learning era as forced on us by the COVID-19 pandemic, hence the introduction of instructional design (ID) in our lecture materials,” he said. Also according to him, the instructional design is a systematic process of translating principles of learning and instruction into plans for instructional materials and activities. Therefore, for effective online lecture delivery, lecture materials are to be prepared in an instructional design format.

While appreciating the Centre for Systems and Information Services for its support toward the realisation of the vision of the University especially to flourish in the current pandemic, the Vice-Chancellor implored all members of faculty that “the Landmark post-COVID-19 teacher, therefore, needs to accept that education delivery is evolving and must be ready to adapt and communicate the evolution.”

The Registrar, Miss Fola Oyinloye commended the role of the Centre for Systems and Information Services in helping the University to achieve seamless transition from the physical classroom to virtual. She said being an ICT driven University did not make the University competent digital teacher-users but the webinar would further position the University to explore the deliverables of the ICT towards the advancement of the vision of Landmark.

Welcoming participants to the webinar, the Director of the Centre, Mr Opeyemi Matiluko, said the webinar was rather promptly organised to fully embrace the new normal of blended learning in conjunction with the benefits inherent in digitization and technology for all-round human advancement. On his team was Mr Olufemi Ojo, the E-learning Officer who took the members of faculty on the journey to becoming digital teachers

Education / Landmark Undergraduate Becomes Ican Certified At Age 19 by LandmarkUnivers: 5:17pm On Aug 03, 2020
Landmark University continues to pride in her legacies of excellence laid through her commitment to creating unprecedented opportunities for students to launch their careers, thereby equipping them to become global pathfinders.

One of such opportunities is the Landmark Professional Accountancy Centre (L-PAC) of the College of Business and Social Sciences that nurtured Queen Oluwatobi Grace Adeoye to professional maturity in the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) qualifying examinations.

Queen Adeoye who was admitted to the University’s Accounting and Finance Department in 2016 started her professional journey in her 2nd year as one of the pioneer students of the Centre and by dint of hard work, consistency and diligence passed the each of the five stages of ICAN qualifying examination at first attempt within two and a half years.

This feat was not unexpected by the University Centre considering the time, expertise and academic investments on the students towards giving value to the financial commitments of their parents.

By this feat, Queen Adeoye has joined the hall of fame of very few individuals who became chartered Accountants as undergraduate and in their teen ages. At present, Queen Adeoye is in 400 level with an impressive First-class CGPA and expected to graduate in July 2020.

In retrospect, Mr Tobi Oladiran as an undergraduate in the Department of Accounting and Finance, Landmark University wasn’t only a Chartered Accountant but also one of the top 3 Affiliates of ACCA in Nigeria and the overall best graduating student of the Marvel set of pathfinders.

In Landmark University, students are rest assured of an avant-garde education system with accompanying cutting-edge advantages not only to rank among the best but also to break limits globally. Landmark University community, therefore, congratulates our very outstanding Queen Oluwatobi Grace Adeoye on her breaking-limit milestone.

Education / More Landmark University Programmes Earn Nuc Full Accreditation Status by LandmarkUnivers: 4:47pm On Aug 03, 2020
Landmark University has again recorded another giant stride as six of her programmes presented to the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the October-November 2019 accreditation returned full accreditation status with excellent total scores between 88 and 99%. The programmes are Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Microbiology, Industrial Chemistry and International Relations. It is noteworthy that Political Science was granted interim accreditation.

The Commission through its Directorate of Accreditation communicated the results to the University in a letter dated 19th March 2020 with the implication that the full accreditation status is valid for five (5) years while interim accreditation status is two (2) years.

In his congratulatory message to the University community on Monday 11th May 2020, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adeniyi Olayanju described the feat as the Lord’s doing.

While reiterating the commitment of the institution towards attaining world-class status by sustainably ensuring best practices in the University, Professor Olayanju used the medium to appreciate the Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo, Members of Board of Regents, Management and the entire University community for their unquantifiable efforts during the exercise.

He, therefore, implored the university community to see the achievement as a call to do more, noting that there is always a room for improvement. He stated that with the array of dedicated faculty and staff, Landmark will in no distant time become a force to reckon globally in excellent academic practices, teaching and research, food production and provision.

Agriculture / Glohwoc Partners With Landmark On Women Empowerment In Agribusiness by LandmarkUnivers: 4:55pm On Jul 31, 2020
Landmark University’s quest to restore the dignity of the black race was again demonstrated in her collaboration with the Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC) to provide technical capacity building on agribusiness for women in Irepodun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State on Tuesday, 28th July 2020. The capacity-building event which focused on plant, animal and livestock production and their value chains had 62 participants from the various villages across the LGA.

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adeniyi Olayanju, reiterated the commitment of the University to her tripodal responsibilities, noting how the University is positioned to impact society positively with her knowledge and facility endowments. Commending the initiative to empower women in society, Professor Olayanju situated the connections between women’s empowerment, food security, and agricultural growth. He emphasised the crucial role of women in agricultural development, adding that inequalities in access to agricultural resources have limited their opportunities and development, thereby contributing to global hunger and poverty. He submitted that eradication of the inequalities in agriculture must be prioritized to give women their place in agriculture. “It is, therefore, important, given women's crucial role in food production and provision, that any effort towards sustainable food security must address their limited access to productive resources including knowledge of maximizing agricultural value chains.” While expressing concern over the effect of COVID-19 on agricultural activities in the year 2020, he noted the aptness of the workshop, saying that it would spur the participants to immediate agricultural engagements in preparation for 2021 and beyond.
He, therefore, expressed optimism that the technical training would expose them to the opportunities in agribusiness that would increase their participation in agriculture tending towards attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nation – Zero Hunger, No Poverty, and Eradicate Inequalities.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Mrs Christy Abayomi-Oluwole, the Foundation’s Financial Executive, Mr Alaba Adesuyi, said the project was supported by Global Affairs Canada through ActionAid Nigeria to provide economic empowerment for women in two (2) local government areas of Kwara State which are Irepodun and Ilorin South. He added that the foundation would not only train the women but would also provide them with mentorship and other enabling resources which included land allocations and capital disbursement amongst others to maximize the knowledge acquired for their economic freedom. He appreciated the management of Landmark University for their open-door policy towards people development.

In her remarks, the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies and former Dean, College of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Charity Aremu, could not hide her delight over the turnout of women interested in agriculture, asserting that it was a move to stall the impending global famine as forecast by the United Nations. She congratulated the women for making such a decision to exempt themselves from the impending hunger and noted that increased knowledge base is all that is required to have successful agricultural practice.

Speaking earlier, the Dean, College of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Olasunkanmi Bamiro had traced the challenges of rural women in agriculture to the non-realisation of agriculture as a business that could change their economic status, noting that many of them do not see agriculture beyond subsistence. He said until they realise agriculture is a business, their level of involvement would remain low.

The women proceeded to the Landmark University Teaching and Research Farm for the technical session which exposed them to enhanced methods in plant and animal farming and their respective value chains.
