Car Talk / Re: What Type Of Engine Oil Do You Use In Your Car And How Much Is It? by Larrydee(m): 9:44pm On Nov 16, 2017
Now that we can't get mile master anywhere in Nigeria any longer, what have you 5w-20 folks been using in you cars? I'm way due for servicing but don't know a trusted replacement I can use for mile master which I have been using for like 2yrs now without any issues.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Help a brother, Save an engine today!
Nairaland / General / Re: Mazda6 4cycl 2.3 Lt by Larrydee(m): 5:22pm On Aug 26, 2017
I have a 2006 model. I service after 3000 miles with Milemaster engine oil or any oil with grade 5w20.
I've had the annoying vibration at 60kmph severally. Had to change the shafts on every ocassion (2 or 3 pair of shafts in close to 3yrs of use).
Never had any issue with the engine since i started driving mine. Changed plugs once and oil seal once. no overheating, no erratic sensors, no electrical issues, and the a/c plus sound system is badass. Just the suspension every once in a while. Great car. Be nice to it and it will be nice to u. wink

Tonmab:
Hello Nairalanders, i bought a used mazda6. Please anyone who has used this type of car should tell me how to manage this car. How often do i need to service the car, when do i need to change brake pads, belts etc
I like the car although i found out i have to work on the power steering because i notice leaks each time i top ATS oil, and the car steering vibrate each time i do 60km/h

Please i have always found your advice useful. Users of the same car or auto personnel, please your candid advice.
the car has registered 105k miles
Car Talk / Re: A/c Condenser Gets Very Hot Yet A/c Not Cooling Well by Larrydee(m): 6:17pm On Mar 11, 2017
Lexusgs:
Your condenser should be cold, not hot !!!! (in action)

Actually, the condenser is usually hot, not cold. That's why some vehicle manufactures have a separate fan for it, or for cars with single fans, the fans revolves faster when the ac is on, so the heat can be dissipated better.

If you have a split unit air conditioner, the outdoor unit houses the condenser, and I'm sure you can feel the heat when you stand by it. If anything is cool at all, it's the evaporator. That's where the cooling of the air takes place.

Autos / Re: Transmission Fluids, Getting The Right One For Your Vehicle by Larrydee(m): 5:27am On Feb 06, 2016
Hello Sooperrescue,
My owner's manual recommends AFT M-V as replacement. I'm presently due for transmission oil change as the one in now has turned brown! It's a 2006 mazda.
That specification is difficult to come by. Could you recommend an option I could use and won't end up with a burnt transmission.
Thanks in adv.

Sincerely sir,i can't understand what you have written, which car did you buy and is the sum in naira or cefa, kindly explain, thanks.

I bought a hyundai accent 2006 model. The buying price for the car was NGN798k which was about 2.3mllion at the exchange rate as at the time of purchase. What I am saying is that i had to part with additional NGN600k to get the car delivered to my house. According to my agent, the 600k covers cost of clearing, something about security and Nigerian customs duty.

The question is: does it cost so much to move the car out of the car lot up to the time it is delivered to the customer or did my agent mix up the figures.
Autos / Re: Purchase Cheap,accident free cars 4rm Cotonou.. by Larrydee(m): 10:37pm On Apr 24, 2015
I bought an 06 car from. Cotonou. Buying price was around 800k. Cost of bringing it to my house was around 600k extra. Is it that expensive to move d car out of the car lot to Lagos?
Car Talk / Re: Mazda Thread by Larrydee(m): 6:19pm On Apr 19, 2015
My 06 mazda 6 didn't come with a rear wing spoiler cos it's the entry level model. Can I get aftermarket or stock spoiler and other parts to fix from ladipo or anywhere else in Nigeria for that matter. EBay is not an option. I've tried, they don't ship to Nigeria in most cases.

Do you own a Mazda car, truck, or SUV like Mazda 3,5,6,millinea,protege,tribute,CX etc. Lets talk and share our experiences. What is your view on these cars? Fuel economy, interior/styling, engine, how strong the body is? etc.
I own a 2007 mazda 6i 2.3l 4cyl. The fuel economy is very superb, beautiful car but no much power from idle. I travel appro. 45miles daily by 5days/week and it uses a half tank of 68.0litre full tank capacity. It got a superb bose sound systems, beautiful interior and exterior, twin exhaust, bezel xenon headlamps. No mechanical or electrical problems so far. I use a mobil 1 oil 0w40 for my services. All fluids are intact. All-in-one, my 2007 mazda 6i is a sweet car for a young and classic mind. It's eye catchy.
Lets know yours please.

oktawian:
It's a very nice car, if you will find one that is in really good shape it will give you a lots of fan from driving.

Try to find one with 1.8l or 2.0l petrol engine, about the gearbox , maunal and automatic , both are good but the way that they taking care about automatic gearboxes in Nigeria... hmm cheesy

As a mechanic engineer from Europe:

My advice if it will be automatic , buy proper gearbox oil and filter and change them right away after buying the car ! It will give you a pece of mind for a really long time ! If you don't know what type of oil it use, feel free to ask me.

If you have a chance try to scan the whole car before buying, by scan i mean plug in the computer in to the car and check for any errors in engine, ABS, airbag, gearbox, etc. modules.

Regards Oktawian

You are my person. I was scrolling down to remind them of the missing $20bllion when I saw your post. That money when found shall be more than enough to finance revenue short fall.

Like Fashola said... Burj Khalifa in Dubai cost $1.5 billion to build. Nigeria has lost $20 billion...

That money will definitely be enough to cushion the effect of revenue shortfall.

Science/Technology / Re: Cost Of Different Sources Of Electricity In Nigeria by Larrydee(m): 2:08pm On Apr 08, 2013
A perfect balance of PHCN and renewable energy sources will be just fine.
PHCN when you require cooling (refrigerator, air conditioning) and solar when you need to power appliances with fairly low energy consumption. You can use energy saving bulbs (which consume far lower than regular bulbs yet emit practically no heat, whilst achieving the same lighting effect), flat screen TVs, rather than CRTs, etc.
