I'm educated with a post graduate degree. I have worked in the various sectors of the economy (Para-Military, Sales, Marketing, Industrial Security & Training) with two decades of experience. However things took a down turn for some years now. Been a Security Consultant to a company but its currently not doing well & so no pay. Couldnt just be idle so I started using my car for e-hailing. Recently, my driver's license expired. When processing for renewal, I chose the option of by-pass so I can get the licence quicker but I didnt know that by choosing that option I cant be issued with a temporary licence. I have to use a copy of the form I filled but stamped by Road Safety until licence is ready. Problem is in e-hailing this is not valid so I'm down to nothing now until the next 2 or 3 months when the licence will be out & no guarantee on time. Now I've got a family of 7 to feed but nothing to do probably for the next 3 months & that is frightening. All I've got now is a toyota camry with no idea of what to do. I've tried kabukabu but returns can't fuel the car so I stopped before it packs up. I need help from well meaning Nairalanders. I have not taught before but I can because I have engaged in several trainings as a resource fellow. My post graduate is in English & also Management. Seven people's lives are at stake here please. I need help |

Fellow FMCG adventurers, Karin started this thread with a large heart of touching as many people as possible. There was no criterion or qualification from the beginning apart from interest to make a difference through FMCG. Not everyone will run with an idea at first encounter which does not mean they don't welcome it. The Good Book says a vision is always for an appointed time & the timing could be individual. I believe this thread is robust enough to accommodate everybody. Let's not make it a cult by cutting off those who haven't started off & limiting the impact of this good job. There are those who are invisible but following this thread religiously waiting for the 'right time' for them. Whether there's a right time is a thing of conjecture. I don't see the distractions here to stop anyone serious enough to make the move. I had made a commitment to share my testimony here. Nobody should deprive me of that privilege. I've met a couple of people through this thread & I'm grateful for it. Let's keep things on here. Those who need loan could be managed off the thread which I believe is going on now. Please let's not put a spanner on the works. Karin, you had a vision from the beginning. Even though you could admit inputs, don't let your initial vision be twisted. I rest my case 1 Like |

Karin, What attracted me to this thread was your unflinching desire to assist & the selflessness that went with it. I'm grateful it hasn't changed. I have gone low because of certain exigencies & I didn't want it to affect the morale of the thread. My other predicament is your stance not to have personal communication. If you can tamper with that, I'll like to share some thoughts. In case you change your mind & really desire to help then send me a blank mail or something to show you're the one & may be I'll be back on track. Just for clarity, I don't need pecuniary help. My email id: selfdiscovery1@yahoo.com. P.S. I have never missed a single post & I guess it's the same for some who have been inactive for a while. 1 Like |

Delivery doesn't seem a problem to me but pricing. Vendors around my area buy doughnuts for N1000 per pack of 25 so if we come with something higher and not exceptional, it won't fly. Negotiating pricing individually might not fly as well. If we need to collate orders for the producers to figure what they stand to gain, may be it could be helpful. Nutrientrich mentioned she had agreed for N900 per pack but had to renege because of current cost of production but that seems a better bargain for us. A N100 margin wouldn't be a bad idea, something less isn't motivating. The producers need to understand the quantity we will push for them. If doughnut wouldn't fly then let's look at chin chin. I really don't understand why we didn't start with chin chin because your strength seems to lie in it. That's what you're doing at the moment and you're pushing quite a huge amount. I strongly suggest the producers sell for N900 per 25 pack so we can maintain the market rate of N1000 per 25 at least for the beginning. We can look into N1050 after we have been accepted in the market as a formidable ally 2 Likes |

Hi Guys, Sorry I've been out of touch for about 18 hours but I'm free now though I need to prepare for tomorrow. I've read Lexadfg's comments. I stand by my earlier observations of the products in question. Since it's a weekend & I needed to confirm my earlier comments or otherwise, I gave both products to 3 adults of over 18yrs & 3 kids of under 14yrs. And the result confirmed that the kids loved Sob's & wanted more but the adults ate Fairy's but couldn't finish Sob's because of the sweetness. If our focus is on kids then Sob's will do well. Otherwise she may have to reduce sweetener. The packaging is what could be improved but if we're looking at 3 days duration then it'd do. I stated earlier that both products are not exceptional apart from the heart friendly claim of Sob's which she had explained. You cannot satisfy every retailers expectations. A. Salesman needs to be convinced himself of the product he's offering. Only then can he market the product. No product can be accepted 100% without a negative observation. If Lexadfg continues we'll dwell more on the negatives than the positives. To clinch this, let's get AstuteJay's reaction. I gave him some samples as well. If you ask me, Karin should conclude negotiation with the producers on the gray areas & as we go on greater feedbacks from the field could be addressed. 1 Like 1 Share |

Karin, Points of delivery for Sob Ventures will be where met @ Ogunnusi Road Omole bus stop & Ikotun Ferry's also will deliver anywhere in Ojodu-Berger General Remark: both brands are normal to perceive though Sob said what stands out in hers is the preparation which is heart friendly. Karin, Just back from SOB Ventures with Lexaydfg and this was my finding. I believe he will give his own: 1. We met two manufacturers: Sob Ventures & Ferry's from Akute. 2. Sob's brand is NutientRich Sweet Jam Doughnuts 3. Sob has a pack of 25 pieces of doughnuts for #1,000 each & retail price of #50 each 4. Ferry's brand is Ferry's Jam Doughnuts 5. Ferry's comes in a cartoon of 50 pieces for #2,000 & half carton of 25 for #1,000 & retail price of #50 6. Both are of standard taste & aesthetics 7. Sob seems sfweeter & will be patronised by children mainly while Ferry's with less jam & sugar will suit adults 8. Sob has one distributor around the area while Ferry's supplies the Grammar School 9. Exclusivity & appropriate pricing should be handled by Karin as both manufacturers commented that they had commenced discussions with her 3 Likes |

Karin, It just occurred to me that Omole Phase 1 has three gates along Ogunnusi Road. It will be helpful if she was specific. The first gate from my end is opposite GT Bank, the second is opposite Grammar School while the third seems to be the main one (wider than others)close to NNPC Filling Station. From the post it could be any of these and they are apart so moving from one to the other could take some time. SOB Ventures is unmistakable It's getting exciting |

Karin, This is the first thread I've encountered you and if I doubted your genuineness, I won't open up on my personal predicament here. It was all because I saw your transparency and whether my judgment was right or wrong I still stand by it. I wanted you to assure us and you've done that. If the guy is envious of your following, let him think harder However, don't let him make you re-affirm anonymity which we have affected to a level. i sensed a masked anger in your comment. Though rightly so, if there is no opposition then it might as well not be worth the while. You were considering the probability of personal communication. I'm already in communication with two members here. I can't mention them except they give a nod. Also if two won't be a crowd I'll like to join rose75 to taste the sample. If it be of God and your personal conviction nothing can stop the initiative and like I said before, my testimony will be posted here. 1 Like |

AstuteJay, Thanks for your good gesture. I take it as the beginning of the success of this venture. I don't take it lightly and remember we could always do something together when we find something mutually beneficial. Thanks. Karin, I've been a bit busy and could only reach my notebook this time. I'm grateful to God for little mercies. Like I said above I take it as a sign that we are on right course. I'm combing my area tomorrow for definite assessment. Please who is this goldman777? Why is he accusing you of a scam? Do you know him before? Please keep my mind at rest. His comment is embarrassing. goldman777, I will appreciate if you throw more light on your accusation. You just barge into an otherwise great conversation to make such grave accusation? Did you go through the whole thread? She refused an offer by someone to invest in the business with N500,000 which she could have been in charge of disbursing it. N20,000 x 20 = 400,000 less than the N500,000 so I'm at loss. I demand a good explanation from you |

Hey Guys, Thanks for your comments and encouragements. I appreciate you all but I'll prefer we stick to how the business could be a success. I do not indulge in self-pity and I'm the last person to think it's over. I just wanted you guys to know where I'm coming from and where we should help me get to. I've thought things over before unbuttoning myself. Karin, If you can make exception, I'll like that we talk offline or communicate by emails or What's app. rose75, I like your bluntness but I've overcome others' perception to even mention it here because I've referred people who know me to this thread and if you read my book, you'll know me better. I'm not proud of my experiences but I'm not ashamed either because I believe many have benefited from it and will still benefit from it. I'm a die-heart optimist. I accept responsibilities for my actions. You can see it from my nick name here. If you don't mind we could communicate offline as well. What I didn't state in my earlier post is that I've failed in a couple of businesses too. Presently I have a whiteboard I've not been able to sell. Later I'll share some reasons why those businesses failed for others to learn. I may not be able to tell how to succeed but I surely know how to direct not to fail and if I achieve that I guess I've shown the road to success somehow For now let's get ahead. Once the cards are clear I'll fall in line. 2 Likes |

Dear All, Thanks for your frank reactions and advice to my post. I still want to make somethings clearer. One, white collar job in my sense is decent job with a car and driver allowance not necessarily rich. I have no building of my own but an empty land. So status problem is just education (Bachelors, Post Graduate Diploma & Masters) and other people's perception. And to crown it I'm a part time pastor - so the congregation is also there. I attempted buying a bus on hire purchase to personally operate but was discouraged by my senior pastor on grounds that it was beneath me. Now I'm wiser because nobody is sharing my bills! So I want to discard all that and start afresh that's why I could say all these here. My initial reaction was to find a way and contact Karin privately but I did not intend to breach her privacy policy she had stated earlier, that's why I came out here. Karin, you seem economical with your views in that you didn't want to tease my ego. I'm not that egocentric. Those who don't see my inner mind think I'm down to earth because I relate with anyone I want to no matter their station in life. Presently, there is no money of my own but I can raise up to N600,000 which I had intended to use for the soft loan business club. I have a huge liability already and someone said you must start a business with money you can afford to lose. So I'm not about borrowing to start. I love rose75: Shit money doesn't have shit odour (my own adaptation). Great quote. From research I understood that only 2% of Americans can work successfully without any form of supervision. I believe here in Naija it could be 1% or less and I'm thinking that I may belong to the other side. That's why I need someone that I could be accountable to even if anonymously. Karin, gathering sales boys will take some capital because you'll need to make provision for allowances or salaries for some period before ROI could cater for the allowances. I'm ready to go along with this model but I needed to be sure of ROI and period of incubation. Also I need to be clear about the source of our goods. Is it going to be centralised? That is sourced from a single company? If we go it individually, securing exclusivity might be a challenge. Already someone in my area has indicated interest now Once again, I appreciate every comment in reaction to my post and hope that some day I will post a testimony about this. And by the way I wrote a book about myself, Why Success Eluded Me for So Long. It may be helpful to some especially the younger ones. And I intend to write another book, How I Finally Made It. I believe that journey has begun here 2 Likes |
