Good Morning,

Please, I just recently picked up my marriage bases visa. We started the journey as cr1 visa category but our marriages was 2 years old the day the visa was printed and I still got the cr1 we started with but was thinking the visa category would change to ir1 because of the length of the marriage. Is there need to contact the consulate? What can I really do about that? Thanks.
Romance / Re: Husbands, Protect Your Wives From Your Friends. by laurynkay: 11:33am On Jan 14, 2016
I finally told him. Thanks Guys, felt like a huge weight has been taken off my shoulders. Sometimes we know the right thing but then most times we require a slight push towards the right direction.
Romance / Husbands, Protect Your Wives From Your Friends. by laurynkay: 12:04am On Jan 13, 2016
My Fellow Nairalanders, I recently met my husband's friend whom I never knew he had. I had a transaction with him on my husband's behalf and of course with his permission. The very first day we met, I knew he was into me and funny enough, I told my husband his friend was attractive, little did I know. I didn't know his advances would come on this strong. His text, his calls, emails.... they are all becoming too emotional and sensual for me and he just won't stop. I still have a couple of meetings with him on my husband's behalf and am finding it difficult because I don't want to screw with my husband's business plans or cause his friend to bail out on us. I feel like letting my husband know but at the same time, I want to make this business plan a success before letting him know who his friend is. I really don't know how to go about it. I am confused. Any advice please?

VisaOfficer:

Since you know you're not eligible for the K, you might as well withdraw the petition now. Sorry there's not better news.

Thanks
hope filing for the 1-130 from the same petitioner will not have a negative impact on approval. Want to get the necessary information so we don't make mistakes.

VisaOfficer:

Good morning,

Unfortunately this is an area in which Nigerian law and U.S. law do not neatly overlap: You are not eligible for a K1 visa because you are married, but your spouse can't file the I-130 for you without a marriage certificate. You will need to formalize your marriage in Nigeria and apply for the spouse visa, as you are not eligible for the K1.

This is really a hard pill for but thank you.

Having read your post, would you suggest he withdraws the application now ( because he just recently filed it) and probably file the 1-130 in January or February after we must have legalized it? or waits till it gets approved/denied at NVC and get possible denial too at the Consulate before refiling? want to know if the application can be withdrawn and if yes, at what point can it be done.......

Thank a lot.

Please Ma, thank you for the time u have devoted to helping us on this forum.

I have an issue of great concern.. My fiancée ( a service man) just recently filed a K1 application for me in my birth name while I had a change of name few months back. I got traditionally engaged to him in 2013 and afterwards got a passport since i never had one before, adopting his last name as mine though I have a court order to that effect. This traditional engagement was not documented anywhere and as such do not have documented proof except for the change of name where I gave my reason for the change as having performed traditional marriage rites and customs. We thought of spousal visa before now but not having a certificate and the nature of his job not being able to come back for the legalized marriage because at that point, he was deployed to Afghanistan became a huge challenge. Currently, he doesn't have enough leave days saved up because he used it up while PCSing and transitioning back to the US.
Presently, I am confused and need to know the possibility of getting a K1 visa and possible suggestions.
Thank u.

Almost a similar case with mine, Guys can be douche bags. they say it's in their nature to cheat but seriously, it really unfair to we ladies. my dear, the ball is in ur court, make the decision as for me, i have left mine for good. i believe in the future, don't dwell in the past.
