Politics / Re: Atiku Abubakar: Sowing The Seed Of Ethnic Superiority by lawdrukky(m): 2:40pm On Feb 20, 2023
What would you do if they win? Cos the race it’s open and in a democratic system no tribe can revolt against an election. This thing no gra gra o. You must present convincing facts and solicit people’s support and vote for your candidate

You people should do your campaign and convince those you can convince on who to vote. Northern elders should take a stand let’s see, by January 8 2015 they have already decided so I don’t see the need why they are mute till election week
Politics / Atiku Abubakar: Sowing The Seed Of Ethnic Superiority by lawdrukky(m): 3:18pm On Feb 17, 2023
By Rukevwe Ebesekaye

January 8 2015 Zaria Kaduna State, the former spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum Professor Ango Abdullahi declared that the organization has endorsed General Buhari for the 2015 presidential election. The rationale for this decision hinges primarily on power rotation to the north based on equity, justice, and fairness. The organization asserted that the PDP has breached its constitution thereby being unfair and unjust to the north. While a significant number of Nigerians from the south share this sentiment, the majority were already disenchanted with the PDP's failure in government especially with handling insecurity and corruption. On the other hand, the general sentiment of the north was that power must go to the north for equity, justice, and fairness. This monumental endorsement and the general sentiment were reflected in the voting pattern of the north which helped in ousting President Jonathan from the south and enthroned President Buhari from the north. At the heart of the northern agitation for power was a certain Atiku Abubakar who was a former vice president and desperately wanted to be president. Unfortunately for him, power was given to Buhari by God and the Nigerian people. If President Buhari has used the goodwill he got in 2015 to serve the Nigerian people and sufficiently solve their problems is left for the Nigerian people to judge.

Fast forward to 2019, Atiku had returned to the party he threw under the bus and had clinched the presidential ticket in a primary election contested only by northerners. The "repentant" PDP argued that since the last candidate was from the south, it is only fair and just that the next candidate comes from the north to engender inclusivity and not repeat the mistake of 2015. Unfortunately for the perpetual presidential aspirant, he was given a bloody nose by the same general who had beaten him in the 2014 APC primaries.

The 2023 general election is upon us and now the die is cast. Guess who has manipulated and bullied his way into picking the ticket of the PDP? You don't have to strain your brain to answer as all have seen and heard that the man who once destroyed his party for being unjust and unfair to one section of Nigeria is now on the ballot against the principle of justice, fairness, and inclusiveness he once stood for. This is bad politics for Nigeria and it is against the greatest constitution God has given us which is the human conscience. Because of the unique situation, we are in as a nation still struggling to live in harmony, unity, and prosperity in diversity, what we have on the ballot right now is not only competence, capacity, and track record but also justice, fairness, and equity. Uniting Nigeria is not a mere word of mouth, it is a principle backed by action and the PDP and Atiku have fallen short in this regard.

Now Nigerians and the world are keenly looking to see what position the Northern Elders Forum and other prominent northern organizations would take. The hope and appeal are that they maintain the same position and principle they fought for in 2015 because what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The Northern Elders Forum must not only defend the general interest of the North over the interest of a few northern politicians but must also place themselves as a pan-Nigerian group and help destroy this SEED OF ETHNIC SUPERIORITY being sown by Atiku Abubakar. Of the three frontrunners in this presidential election who coincidentally attended the Arewa Joint Committee interactive session, the Northern Elders Forum as well as other northern political and social groups should urgently endorse either of the southern candidates because the election is barely a week away and time is of the essence. They should also as a matter of transparency openly admonish northerners and by extension all Nigerians not to vote for Atiku Abubakar.

It has to be stated that there is no shortage of competent and credible people from all regions of the country who can lead Nigeria and in this race, Atiku ranks lower than his main competitors from the south. To be logically persuasive to those who would argue that they don't subscribe to sentimental argumentation in a democratic system, we will briefly outline the facts and records which don't lie. Of the three frontrunners, only Atiku hasn't held executive power for 8 years, therefore, has never been tested nor trusted for the security of the lives and properties of Nigerians. Only Atiku doesn't have a track record or educational qualification in the economic and financial sector and lastly, Atiku has the most baggage and scandals of corruption.

Nigerians must understand this is not the time to choose politicians with the largest political network, platform, or loyalists. We are at a critical time in our history and choosing people with verifiable track records, capacity, and courage to do the right thing is what Nigeria needs. We can't afford to have a president who has probably promised positions and opportunities to politicians even before he gets into office. Such a president will lack the political courage to take some tough decisions for the greater good of the country because they don't want to step on toes that assisted them to ascend power. With February 25th around the corner, Nigerians should reflect and vote wisely. In the words of the vice president of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osibanjo, "you cannot wish the country well and vote for someone you do not believe in". God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Great work
Politics / The Opposition In Power By Ebesekaye Rukevwe by lawdrukky(m): 1:55pm On Feb 06, 2023
The period from January 2nd to January 4th, 2012, were historic for our country as hundreds of thousands of Nigerians in major cities across the country took to the streets to protest the government's cut on fuel subsidy announced on January 1st, 2012. What a harsh way to wish Nigerians a Happy New Year. It must have taken a lot of guts but also came across as if the government did not anticipate the outrage from Nigerians who were faced with the reality of buying fuel at about double what it was sold just days before.

The face of the protest was opposition political party leaders, labour unions, civil society groups, celebrities, and prominent individuals from all works of life. The government was flayed and verbally abused until they eventually ceded to the demands. The protest was a combination of strike actions, civil disobedience, demonstrations, social media activism and unfortunately, some Nigerians lost their lives during the protest.

While some critics would say that cutting of fuel subsidy by the government was barbaric, unreasonable and a deliberate attempt to inflict pain on the people it was meant to serve, others will argue that there wasn't adequate consultation across board with key stakeholders and enlightenment of the public as to why the government considered such drastic action necessary. However, this does not negate the fact that there were Nigerians who believed
that the government has taken a courageous and auspicious decision.
The motivations for participating in the protest varied. Some individuals instigated the protest for political gain, while others supported it due to a lack of understanding of the issue. Some individuals sought to gain fame, while others who were already famous believed it was their responsibility to use their influence to speak out on behalf of those suffering. With the prominent use of social media during the protest, it was difficult to remain humming and hawing in one's stance.

The "Occupy Nigeria" protest was a monumental event for opposition political figures who were gaining heroic status in the heart of the ordinary man. This propelled them
even further as subsequent anti-government rallies and protest were organized by opposition leaders who were gradually winning the sympathy of many Nigerians.

April 2014 could be considered a tipping point as the actions of the Boko Haram terrorist group provided opposition leaders with an opportunity to portray the government as a villain, an incompetent and ineffective bunch led by President Goodluck Jonathan. This resulted in a concomitant raucous within and outside Nigeria as well as a hurricane of condemnation, accusation, and disappointment locally and internationally. Protest erupted in major Nigeria cities as well as cities around the world. Social media played a significant role in amplifying the global response to the situation, as the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls became a widely trending topic, with world leaders and celebrities joining in to lend their voices to the cause.

Opposition leaders, who by that time had consolidated their forces into a formidable political party, appeared to benefit from the Chibok girl’s unfortunate incident as they lampooned the government for their actions and inactions. This provided a powerful tool properly wielded by the opposition to engender public resentment against the government and simultaneously promote their promises to Nigerians who were sentimentally disposed to anyone but the government. Lots of lofty promises were made by the opposition during the campaign leading up to the 2015 general election which contributed to the incumbent government losing power.

It was a new dawn for Nigeria, or so it seemed, until glaring signs began to emanate that more propaganda was sold to Nigerians than actual plans to address the issues facing the country. The opposition had promised to "fix everything" that was wrong and said they had the capabilities to do so in four years, stating that the problems facing the country were not "rocket science". Howbeit, this is 2023 and if you think of problems currently bedeviling Nigeria such as insecurity, a struggling economy, power shortages, poverty, weak currency, fuel prices and unavailability, wasteful and fraudulent subsidies, corruption, poor education and health, suppression of media and free speech, among others, are still prevalent, despite these being issues the opposition had promised to resolve largely or completely by 2019. Now, each Nigerian can form their own opinion and give their verdict on the matter.

After almost eight years in power, the overwhelming assessment of Nigerians is that there is an opposition in power. They have been unmasked as the opposition to the emancipation of Nigeria and progress of Nigerians. While some politicians and sympathizers of the current government try to absolve themselves of responsibilities for the current woes we face or give excuses for their failure by using phrases like "the president is an honest man with good intentions but surrounded by dishonest self-seeking politicians”, it’s only a callous reprobate and sycophant that will insinuate that this government and ruling party has done well to deserve another chance at power in whatever form or shape they are presented. Even
the most ardent supporter of this government knows the bulk stops on the table of the president who is head of government and by extension the ruling party who has been at the helm of affairs for almost eight tumultuous and painful years.

As another election approaches, the opposition in power still wallows in self-aggrandizement and grandiloquent arrogance, going around Nigeria in their shameless overbearing demeanour shunning out same lies and fake promises they failed to fulfil after about eight years in office. Now masquerading themselves with the same old faces that brought calamity upon us as if Nigerians have forgotten the events of the past eight years. It is disheartening when they disregard the needs and opinions of Nigerians, but it's even more egregious when they refuse to acknowledge their mistakes but still, they are gallivanting around the country campaigning instead of soberly going around asking Nigerians for forgiveness.

Fool me once shame on you but fool me twice shame on me. Thankfully, Nigerians are a peaceful people and will not resort to hauling stones at these snollygosters when they come with their sham message of renewed hope. Nevertheless, Nigerians are not docile, and they know who the real enemies are, they know that the opposition to their progress and a good life are currently in power but through democratic means and the power of their votes, they will work to legally remove these obstacles and usher in a new era where leaders with compassion, capability, and accountability preside over the affairs of the country, ensuring that those who oppose the freedom of the Nigerian people will never again attain power.
