As a student, it is possible you are thinking that getting a good grade is all that matters (because that’s what you have been made to believe). So you work hard, put in the needed effort just to see that you achieve that. Well, that’s good but what you may not know is that getting a formal education is different from getting a life. I know you are planning to get a good job and have a successful life. The thing is that, for you to achieve that, you have to face the real world. It will test you. This kind of test is different from the one you take in school. As you may not have learnt much about the real world. I want to point out here 5 things every student must bear in mind before your graduation. 1. A Good Degree Does Not Guarantee A Good Job, Your Brain And Skills Do To get a degree certificate is good but gone are the days when jobs will be waiting for you the moment you leave school as a graduate. What matters in the job market today is what you can offer; what you can do. There are thousands of unemployed people with same level of degree that you have. What do you think that will differentiate you and give you the needed edge, if not your skills and your ability to think and solve issues? You never can tell, that skill you consider menial can earn you more than your degree and certificate could possibly earned you. I have a pretty long list of people who aren’t employed or earning a dime with their certificates but are fully employed and earning big with one skill or the other they picked up along the line. Look out for practical skills in your field of discipline and learn all you can. It does not even have to be just in your area of discipline. Believe me, in the real world you need the hard skills (e.g Proficiency in a foreign language, Computer programming etc) as well as the soft skills (e.g Communication, Time Management, Team work etc) to succeed. 2. Your “A”s in School Will Not Necessarily Translate To Success In The Real World Robert Kiyosaki (one of the world’s richest entrepreneurs) once told a story about what happened during his senior year in high school. He and one of his close friends named Mike were lined up in front of a small group of students made up primarily of the leaders (bright students) of their class. Their guidance counselor turned to him and Mike and said, “The two of you will never amount to anything,” primarily because they were doing terribly poor academically. Few years after graduation Robert and Mike went for their High School Reunion and Guess what? the so called class leaders were still struggling and had not become successful in the years after high school. Where as Robert and his friend, Mike are already successful big time entrepreneurs. Success in life is a product of the application of success principles. And unfortunately they don’t teach you that in school. You need to self-educate yourself on that. Go beyond pursuing good grades and take time to develop yourself. Never run from what you need to learn. Learn and apply the principles of success (they are universal) in all you do and you will succeed. 3. Who You Know Is As Important As What You know What you know may be enough to get you through school. However, in the real world, who you know is as important as what you know. Now, don’t get it twisted. I am not trying to say that without connections, you will not be successful and live the good life you dream of. I am only saying that with the right connections the process would be easier and shorter. Therefore you need to build and maintain the right connections and learn to leverage on them when need be. So have it in mind that your skills and knowledge are important but then so are the people you know. Bottom line: The two are important to your success. 4. One Of The Most Important Things You Need To Manage Well Is Money In the real world Money is an important tool. It’s going to feed you, puts clothes on your back, and puts a roof over your head. You may not really know the value of money probably because you have always received it from friends and family without really working for it. Yeah, you have that privilege now but you won’t in the nearest future. If you do not learn how to manage it now you may likely end up broke and in debt when you face the real world and trust me, it won’t be funny at all. When it comes to managing money I have three rules for you: Save it! Invest it! Multiply it! 5. True Success Does Not Happen In A Flash True Success is not by accident. It involves process. It is an accumulation of certain habits and principles practiced within a stretch of time. The road to true success is often bumpy. It takes time. Little wonder many usually try to use a “shortcut” by getting involved in shady lifestyles. That will only be counter-productive in the long run. The only way I know to hasten success is to have a PHD. I guess you are wondering what that means? Well, it simply means Passion, Hunger and Drive. And don’t equally forget to put God at the center of it all. Thanks for reading this.. See you all at the Top!!! 2 Likes |

Seunvense: Web design is closely related to Graphics design(infact its a sub discipline of graphics design) because you dont need to learn codes all u need is an eye for design, knowledge of design principles (eg Harmony, Balance, Proportion etc) and use of design elements (color, line shape etc), and u can design a website in photoshop or corel draw. WEB DEVELOPMENT ON D ODA HAND REQUIRES CODING SKILLS. Web development requires knowledge of HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, etc.. it is divided into 2 ; frontend and backend. FRONT-END web development involves languages like HTML&CSS(compulsory) ,JAVASCRIPT, JQUERY etc. it involves d coding of what d user sees on their browser. A FRONT END WEB DEVELOPER TRANSLATES A WEB-DESIGN into codes for d browser to understand. BACKEND webdevelopment involves knowlege of programs like PHP,MYSQL,etc. if u know dis den u r a WEB PROGRAMMER and u will b able to build social networks, ecommerce websites, site similar to facebook, nairaland etc(but u av to b good) NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!! so many pple confuse FRONT-END WEB DEVELOPMENT with WEB DESIGN. they are 2 different disciplines. IF SOMEONE promises to teach u web design and in ur first week u learnt HTML AND CSS he/she is teaching u WEB DEVELOPMENT(frontend) not web design. though it is advisable that you as a front end web developer av knowledge of web design(graphics) so that u will b able to code beautiful, neat website. lastly stuffs u need to learn if u want to become a : WEB DESIGNER: design principles and elements, web layout, photoshop, coreldraw(optional) FRONTEND WEB DEVELOPER: html , css, javascript, jquery(makes javascript coding easy), and if i u want to be very independent learn WEBDESIGN(optional) etc... BACKEND WEB DEVELOPER: php(for programming), mysql (for database), PYTHON(for programming&optional), POSTGRESQL( for database) , ASP.NET(for programming &optional)etc LEARN ALL OF D ABOVE and u ll be called a FULL STACKED WEB DEVELOPER.... ALL THE BEST.... 1 Like |

You have the freedom to move around, freedom to go to parties, freedom to date whoever you want because you are still a free citizen. Prisoners don't have those privileges but they do have one freedom now; freedom to write WAEC. About 43 prisoners were presented with their WAEC result on friday at the Kuje Medium Prison at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). They sat for the exam in November/December last year and it was funded by a non-governmental agency called NUGA best. At the occasion of the presentation of the result to the inmates, it was also stated that about 33 inmates have gained admission to National Open university of Nigeria(NOUN). I guess we are getting to a point in this country where prisioners will be treated like those in developed countries(you know, the good food and all.) Whats your opinion about the freedom to write WAEC exmination in Nigerian Prisons? SOURCE: http://note-street..com/2014/08/1-nigerian-prision-where-prisoners.html |

gbanikiti: You agree with NewNigeriaMind, yet you disapprove his point. I don't get that. He should first admit he's wrong and thus learn. The thread is to Educate people like him. Thanks I agreed with him partially but not fully and I stated my reasons... @gbankiti mistakes makes us humans(thats why we are not perfect like God). When you want to point out someone mistake, try not making another mistake by criticizing them. the best you can do is provide a solution to their mistake. You think he is wrong but yet he thinks he is right(nothing you say is going to make him change his mind; thats every human nature). Take a look at things from his own perspective and also from your own perspective look at the similarities and differences. Agree with the similarities and state reasons why you also disagree( with the differences) don't say he is wrong I believe if we start settling our differences this way there will be no tribalism and development will be the next way foward( not civil war or breakup) 1 Like |

NewNigeriaMind: The OP is definitely out for mischief because from all indications after independence in 1960, the south west already has university college Ibadan and Yaba college of Technology. Azikwe being an Igbo man and being the person he is felt there is a need to have another university in the east since most people before then from the east that had education was educated in Ibadan.I AGREE WITH YOU NEWNIGERIAMIND . THIS POST IS POINTLESS BUT AGAIN IT SEEMS TO EDUCATE PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW THAT THE FIRST UNIVERSITY FOUNDED BY THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT IS UNN. FACT AND HISTORY STATES THAT UI IS THE FIRST UNIVERSITY IN NIGERIA(WE DON'T CARE WHO ESTABLISHED IT BUT IT HAD THE FIRST NIGERIAN UNDERGRADUATE ON HOMESOIL) LETS NOT ALWAYS TALK ABOUT TRIBALISM COS ITS A DISTRACTION TO DEVELOPMENT. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE TRIBALISTIC PEOPLE AROUND(FACT) BUT WE SEEK TRUE DEVELOPMENT,PROGRESS AND UNITY WE NEED MAJORITY OF NIGERIANS TO SHUN TRIBALISM.(ITS NT HELPING AND IT WILL NEVER HELP) |

paranorman: Out of the total money on her, Kelly took 20% off with her and left over the rest at home on her way to the market. On getting to the market, she saw a radio she liked but found out its price (initial) on its manufacturer's list was 25% higher than what she took to the market. So she thought she could work something out with the seller but was disappointed when told the list got old, prices were adjusted due to inflation and the radio could only be sold at a price which was 50% of her left-over at home; this price was a mark-up of 14 whole and 2/7 % on the original price the seller should have sold it and make a decent profit.my teacher no remember teach me this one |
