Hello,

tbh, my advise as what I would do: For immigration purpose/sake, I won't change back to the old name given that the record is there with the US/Russia and to avoid further future complications. This step would simply ease the situation:

1. A sworn affidavit(attached to it your birth certificate to connect your mother's previous maiden name to the new name, likewise to create further clearer understanding to the names reflecting on your academic certificates)

2. A newspaper change of name

3. A letter of explanation(should be very convincing to why such action of changing your previous surname to that of your stepfather - think outside the box)

4. if your sisters also took same action, include any evidence tangible to the understanding - hint on it in your LOE as physical evidence in addition to the stated reasons.

Thanks but what it I already changed it back to the name on my certificate.l, cos I already did cos people were like they are not going to believe was the owner of my certificate

Hello Sir/Ma’am
I have an issue similar to this, my name and name i’ve Been using in all my certificates is Ayodele Dolapo Anderson but my mom remarried and added my stepdad name to my passport as my surname and my dads name as the other name which is now Owolabi Dolapo Anderson Ayodele I applied for the USA visa last year with my stepdads name as the surname but wasn’t given now I changed the name on my passport back to the name on all my certificates and I want to apply for a Canadian study visa I don’t know what that might do to my application and I don’t know what to do.
Ps... i applied for a family US visa, my mom already had a visa and my two younger sisters were given I was the only one not giving
Ps.... my mom is my sponsor and she still has owolabi on her passport and on her SOA she has Ayodele and owolabi and she already Sworn affidavits that she bare all those names.

Swift response is highly appreciated

Gurus in the house,

Firstly I want to appreciate your effort for the support you have been rendering to folks here....much appreciated.

Please I need help on behalf of a friend. The previous passport he had has a mistake in his date of birth which he did not bother to correct at the time. He also used the passport to travel to Russia and came back. Now in applying for admission to Canada, his transcript carried his real date of birth so he had to correct the date of birth and one of his three names in a new passport at Abuja for 180k .
The challenge now is in applying for study permit, he is expected to also attached the old passport which will show a different date of birth as well as having one of his name different. Also because he has applied for US visa with the old passport, it might be misrepresentation to say he has not traveled before to avoid attaching the old passport knowing fully well Canada and US share info.

what do you suggest he do as a way of solution to this problem? thanks in advance.

I was a student of one of the Nigerian universities doing a diploma program. Almost two years into the program, the NUC scrapped diploma programs for universities. I was broken! So I decided to study abroad.

I applied for a visa to study in the US five times within a period of one year!
I couldn't get past the interviews cos I couldn't explain myself to the VO (kind of an introvert).
So I decided to try Canada once and if I didn't get the visa, I would give up any hope left of studying abroad. Fortunately my first application has just been approved.

I have never crossed Nigerian borders. That is, I have no travel history.

Observation:
I'm not a guru, but from my observation spending a lot of time on the US student visa thread and this Canada student visa thread;
The VOs know there is a 70% chance of we not returning to Nigeria after graduation, but they can't deny all applications based on this fact. So they want someone who shows potential of adding something positive to Canada, incase the person doesn't return to his/her country.
They key is just "self-hype". In my SOP, the way I hyped myself, you'ld think I thought Zuckerberg how to code.
(Hype yourself with sense sha)

Note: The above doesn't mean you should neglect saying you will come back to Nigeria. In my SOP, I stated some career opportunities for computer science graduates in Nigeria.

I fasted and prayed too. God did his part and I did mine. Thanks to God.

Special thanks to Frankreubben.
This guy went out of his way to teach me things I didn't know about the visa process. I too go ask am question!.. lol.... Thanks a lot brother.
Thanks to everyone who shared their profile and contributed in one way or the other to this thread.

To the hopefuls, "It shall end in praise!"
Congratulations on your success bro, Pls can you share your sop with me??
