The Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has revealed what he meant by the statement he made during his inauguration speech, where he said, "I feel like a Tiger, Lion inside me, to devour the internal enemies of Nigeria.

He revealed he said that just to express how very anxious he is, to start working and to also convey the message that he is very much aware that there are enemies they need to fight together.

According to him, “I mean to explain what I said yesterday when I said the way I was feeling right now is like there was a tiger or a lion in me, ready to chase criminals away in Nigeria and devour the internal enemies of Nigeria.

“I said that just to express how anxious I am to start work. And to also convey the message that I'm aware that there are enemies that we need to fight together, if you listen to my speech, I mentioned that we need to collaborate together to be able to surmount the courage to face our challenges today.

“It is going to a collective responsibility. All of us will be involved; everybody will be a policeman. We are going to partner with every group, every law-abiding individual.”

Politics / Tinubu At Terrorism Centre, Tasks Security Agencies On Sharing Intel (Video) by Lightupdates: 3:16pm On Jun 05, 2023

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhRaN8VXRZ4

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday tasked security and intelligence agencies in the country on the importance of sharing information and intelligence among themselves, saying hoarding such resources could be counterproductive in the fight against terrorism.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Information, State House, Abuja, Abiodun Oladunjoye, the President spoke after undertaking a tour of the new Office of National Security Adviser and facilities at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), in Abuja.

Recall former President Muhammadu Buhari had in March inaugurated the new office of NCTC.

President Tinubu, while noting the efforts demonstrated in countering terrorism and the state-of-the-art facilities at the two facilities, highlighted the importance of backing such efforts with knowledge.

According to him, his administration had recognised that in order to achieve economic revival, prosperity, and development, security should be of optimum priority.

“It is a great joy to see that we are getting proactive resources to prepare ourselves.

“Terrorism is not unique to Nigeria alone. It is across the world and we have to fight it. We have to eliminate it completely.

“If we as Nigerians are looking for economic revival, prosperity and development, then we have to give priority to security.

“What I have seen here is a demonstration of intelligence efforts to counter-terrorism. This must be backed by knowledge.

“Counter-terrorism that is not backed by knowledge and intelligence is not going to be of any service to any nation. We are going to work on that together.

“The effort of the entire armed forces of this country must be put together in a way that there will be one single focus on securing the country.

“You can’t have disharmony in an orchestra. We must focus on one tunnel; coordinate, share information, share intelligence and work harder.

“You cannot hoard information. You cannot hoard intelligence. I am glad that Nigeria is on the path to success. We will, I assure you.

“We will make it a priority and that is why I am here this morning.”

President Tinubu, who described the tour of facilities at the new ONSA building as very important, expressed his willingness to do whatever was necessary to support the nation’s security architecture.

In his remarks, the NSA, Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd), thanked the President for making the visit his first engagement outside the Villa, saying that “it reinforces his commitment, dedication and inflexible rigidity to ensuring that the security misfortunes of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and by extension, the sub-region are overcome within the shortest possible time.”

Monguno pledged the total commitment and dedication of ONSA to ensure that President Tinubu realizes the promises he made to the Nigerian people on security.

Politics / Will The Supreme Court Disqualify Tinubu And Shettima On May 26? (Video) by Lightupdates: 4:21am On May 24, 2023

Is the Supreme Court of Nigeria going to disqualify Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his vice, Kashim Shettima, over the issue of double nomination when the court delivers its judgment on Friday, 26th May 2023?

Did the APC go against Section 35 of the Electoral Act 2022 when they nominated Shettima, who was already an APC candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial District for the 2023 general elections, as the running mate to Tinubu?

The Nigerian Army has vowed to punish soldiers caught on camera brutalising civilians inside gutters at 2Season Hotel and Resort in Kaduna State.

It was gathered that the civilians who are staff members of the hotel demanded their salary after cleaning the hotel but the manager of the hotel called soldiers to beat them up.

The soldiers humiliated the workers and forced them into a gutter, seized their phones and threatened them with grievous bodily harm.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Sunday condemned the soldiers’ action, describing it as an aberration of the values and ethics of professionalism, courage, selflessness and service to humanity which the NA represents.

Nwachukwu said the authorities of the NA have directed an immediate investigation into the footage to ascertain its veracity, with a view to identifying the culprits.

He said, “A provocative and unacceptable video footage trending on the social media, in which certain persons clad in military camouflage were seen molesting civilians, have been brought to the attention of the Nigerian Army (NA).

“The condemnable incident which was said to have taken place at 2Season Hotel and Resorts, Kaduna is an aberration of the values and ethics of professionalism, courage, selflessness and service to humanity which the NA represents.

“As a disciplined and regimented force committed to the supremacy of the constitution, defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation as well as aid to civil authorities, the NA has zero tolerance for any act inimical to the rights and wellbeing of the citizenry.

“Consequently, authorities of the NA have directed immediate investigation into the audio-visual footage to ascertain its veracity, with a view to identifying the culprits.

“Outcome of the investigation and sanctions against the persons clad in military camouflage, who perpetrated the dastardly acts, if found to be NA personnel, would be treated in accordance with extant provisions of the Armed Forces Acts.

“While appreciating the general public for their continued support, the NA, urges all law-abiding citizens to go about their legitimate businesses without any fear of molestation or intimidation from any quarter and to report any untoward conduct by troops to Nigerian Army Human Rights Desks at the Headquarters Nigerian Army or at the Divisions Headquarters.”

Nigerian evacuees from Sudan on Thursday receive the sum of N100,000 each upon their return to the country.

Additional to this is N25,000 worth of recharge cards and 1.5 Gigabytes of data.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouq, disclosed these at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Thursday morning.

The PUNCH reports Wednesday night that returnees arrived in the country around 11:35 pm on Wednesday while more are still expected in the country.

Farouq stated that the cash and other gifts given to the returnees were done to make them comfortable as they return to the country.

She said, “Today, we are very happy to receive them. They have gone through a very traumatic period but we give thanks to Almighty Allah that all of them are back safely. No life was lost which is the most important thing. All the efforts put in place were not in vain. I thank every member of the Committee that has put all efforts to ensure that these people are brought back safely and with dignity. We thank the transport companies for their support.

“There is N100,000 that would transport them back to their families which is supported by the Dangote Foundation by giving them the transportation fare as well as the dignity kits and also 25,000 recharge cards from MTN and 1.5 GB data courtesy of MTN. All efforts have been put in place and everyone has contributed to ensuring that at least these Nigerians have some comfort when they return home.”

Our correspondents observed that the returnees were handed the N100,000 cash and the dignity kits at the airport after putting down their information.

Giving the details on the returnees, she said a total of 376 persons arrived in the country from Eygpt.

She said the Air Peace aircraft conveyed 282 persons while that of the Nigeria Air Force evacuated 94.

Farouq said, “Today, we have received the first batch of the evacuees. The C130 aircraft of NAF brought about 94 of them while the Air Peace which I commend and appreciate the Chairman/CEO for the support and bringing back our nationals. They brought back about 282 Nigerians.

“They will be in the hall and they will go through a process of profiling and after which they will go through the immigration and they will be given their dignity packs for them to get back to their respective destinations. Some of them, their family members are here to receive them while others would be under our care until they get to their families.

She, however, warned against the consequences of war, urging Nigerians to pray for peace in the country.

“War is not a good thing. People went to study and they became refugees all of a sudden. It is an international crisis and also a humanitarian crisis as people had no food, water, or where to go.

“Nigerians should pray for peace and also not experience this kind of situation.”
