Do U think the curriculum of private universities is different from public universities ?

U know it’s the same NUC that approves the curriculum of all universities in Nigeria right ?

You have not answered the question.
A private uni student in IT and a government uni student in IT,
Who do you think is better equipped on the strength of what they were taught in university?

My argument ? I was faulting ur false claim . U made a claim with no leg to stand on.

More like ur personal thoughts I are presenting as facts

You actually have always believed that there's no difference between both in terms of knowledge.
I believe there is. Asking me to prove that with data is fine for you but me asking you to support your argument with data is an issue?
Your personal thoughts and experiences have been what you've used to make your case.

Abi na lie?

Since we want to be posting school fees to prove a point.
For entry level into a government university 👍

I will recruit the one that demonstrates he possesses the skills and experience required for the job. I will not base my judgement on what school the candidate attended .

It’s only a foooolish HR that will first consider the school a candidate attended instead of the skills he demonstrated at the interview/assessment center .

Go to big 4’s like KPMG, PWC, EY and Delloite …. U will meet a mix of private and public university graduates working in different capacities . Everybody had equal chance of getting in irrespective of their educational background.

As for me requesting for data , I knew u won’t find any; just a case of “ Trust me bro, I no fit lie give u “

Oga I was specific when I said beginner role.
What you are saying is the IT student in government school will have to undergo alot more personal training to bridge the gap in knowledge as against the government student.

Again.
On the strength of what both students learnt from their curriculum in universities, which do you think is better equipped to get employed?
That was the question coz we are focusing on what both learnt in their respective institutions.

In many private secondary schools, teachers are told that students MUST get a good mark from the possible 30 marks of assessment tests though teachers should not influence the 70 marks of the real examinations.

I learnt that this will enable the promotion to the next class of most students since I learnt if the students failed despite the huge schools fees, parents would take away their children to another school.

I don't know if a thing like this happens in private universities, but if it does I won't be surprised at the pseudo quality service of these private universities.
Oga I don't know of any private university that they do that in.
Not 1 that I've heard off.

This is how people said the 1st class in private universities are lesser than that of government unis till the gap in knowledge base starts to show especially among the less intelligent students
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by livelongprospa: 4:03pm On Jun 21, 2023
BlueRayDick:

My friend, u will need to back this assertion up with verifiable data.
What data do you have to show both graduates are the same?

Coz you need to take into consideration the numbers of graduates coming out from government universities against those coming out from private.

Meaning you'll have higher count of dullards from government unis that private.
Same way you'll have a higher number of intelligent students from government unis vs private.

Now the question is what is available to both?
If today you want to hire for a beginner role in IT, which do you think will have a broader and more updated knowledge from the amenities and curriculum they are taught with?
Private or government student?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by livelongprospa: 3:29pm On Jun 21, 2023
Please no offence to government graduates but private university students are mostly better finished products on average.
That you have outliers doesn't change that reality.

Thing is recruitment companies also take that into account when shortlisting but when it comes to base knowledge in most cases the private uni student will be ahead just from what they learnt in uni.

Well, value of education varies with each school.

There is subsidy in Federal secondary schools sha. I can't remember paying anything close to what my friends in private sec. schools but there was no gulf in education between us, whether in facilities or quality of teachers.
Larride this is it.
It's why I cannot argue for secondary and primary schools

I think what he means is if your tertiary education was subsidized, it should be at the same level as that of Redeemers at a lower cost.

Personally, I feel Federal Varsities offer value for the fees paid. Atleast Uniuyo.

Thank you.
But now I want to know what he thinks the value of the education he received is actually worth.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by livelongprospa: 2:09pm On Jun 21, 2023

It is subsidized because it's still the govt funding the schools which is why the tuition is low and can't give us what we deserve. The standard of education in the public uni is not the same with private uni.

In the breakdown of our fees, tuition is 45k, it was all other fees that add up to make it 95k.

All the money I paid for my 4yrs to study Accounting is not up to the money someone in Redeemers University pay in a year to study the same Accounting.
Lets do this.
What do you think your experience in university will actually be worth.
Lets assume it is subsidised.
What would do you think your fees will be with everything you experienced?

Then why don't you wait for the school to update their site before you start arguing?

How can you be arguing about school fees that the school has not published?

Is there no expectation that the discussion has to be fact-based at the very least?

Huh.. A student is saying what is part of the fees.
So if you speak to a uniben student today and he says their fees has gone up and the school site in a government school in Nigeria hasn't updated it yet, would you then call him a liar?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by livelongprospa: 1:25pm On Jun 21, 2023

The experience and quality of education defer. You went to a private university, you surely cannot comprehend some of the things those that attended federal or some state universities face.

Thankfully the state uni I went to dont usually admit alot of students yearly, for example in my faculty management science, Accounting (my set) had the highest intake and we were around 110 or so, banking and finance was 40+, I'm not even sure if Business administration was up to 40. So I cant really relate with alot of those that went to public uni and attend class in a crowded hall because for 90% of the time I was in Uni, my experience wasn't so except for the GNS and French lectures that we have combined class.

We had lecturers that were teaching 3 or more departments which most times make some of them miss classes due to exhaustion. Our own department lecturer were not even up to 5, we share the rest with Banking n Finance.

When I was President of my department and went to Redeemers Uni to talk to their own Accounting department President, I realise that we are lagging behind a lot. While their own association chapter was recognized by ICAN, ACCA and the likes and they attend their conferences and all, we have no such privileges. Infact the seminar that I held while I was President and invited the then ICAN President, he didnt come and sent Osun State Chapter Chairman for the event.

They (Redeemers) also had many lecturers compared to us, they also have relaxation areas, sporting complex, a big library that makes ours (That we usually use to make mouth) looks like a joke.

All these are part of what differentiate the experiences that those that attended my school and Redeemers uni will get.

You are further making my point for me.
You have even broken it down even more.

So again what you people paid for in government universities is exactly what you got.
From the type of lecturers you had to the way you were taught to the living conditions..
Which is why I'm asking how that is subsidised. When the Gulf between "non-subsidised" education is so much more different.

That it is cheap doesn't mean it is subsidised. Because value=Amount paid

This is for 200 level.

And yes, it's still subsidized.

Go and check how much Private Uni are charging and then compare.

Funny enough. From 300-600l pays lower than 200 level students which means they have different fees for 100l, 200l and from 300l upwards.
This is where we differ.
I do not believe it is because the experience is not the same with what you get from private universities.
Or would you say it is?

If they check the AAU website, they will see that the tuition fees for 100l nursing students for 2022/23 is actually not listed.

There's an acceptance fee of 70k listed for 100l nursing students, but no tuition fees.

Lmao.. You should use the Internet more to check for fees.
There are times schools will not quickly update their sites for information but that information is already circulating in student whatsapp groups.
I say this as someone that went to a private university.
So what more a government school.

Again, state uni charge far higher than federal uni but I refuse to believe a state uni will charge 790k for Medicine unless they have facilities that rival private universities.

And yes, state govt subsidies tertiary education also but not on the level of the federal ones.

I was paying 95k to study Accounting in a State Uni while a friend that went to Redeemers University Ede was paying around 750k to study the same Accounting.

They were fast tracked by the parents, how? Is it by telling the Governor to make her a judge or by influencing the NJC to recommend her?

Most times the President/Governor approves and appoint whoever the NJC recommends.

Lmao.. Larride again you should speak to lawyers about appointments of judges so they give you gist.

The children of big men especially those with parents who are judges and what not will have their names sent to the NJC who ask the governor or president. By the time the slots are filled up, na the common lawyers wey dey extremely good especially in top law firms go get the remaining spots.

If I come across that convo again, I'll share the link.

That's incorrect please. The National Judicial Commission makes recommendations for a vacant position and the President/Governor assent to it.

If you are claiming that our judges are not appointing on merits, you will have to bring examples.

If you listen to lawyers talk about the appointment of judges then you'll know you are incorrect.

For example the appointment of Peter Odili's daughters as judges while 'legal" they were fast tracked their parents.
