The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Saturday, stated that there will be no extension of voting time in the Governorship, State Houses of Assembly and FCT Area Council elections, following an early commencement of the polls nationwide.

Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner, and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, said this while briefing newsmen in the INEC national situation room in Abuja.

Okoye said that INEC was pleased to report that the electoral process started as scheduled and that the Smart Card Reader proved its functionality and efficiency by successfully authenticating voters within a short time at polling units across the country.

According to him, most polling units were opened for accreditation by 8 am.

He said the commission would investigate and report to security agencies, security challenges experienced by some states for necessary action.

Okoye said the commission had not received any report on cases of underage voting in this year’s elections.

Speaking on the low turnout of voters in the FCT, Okoye said the commission would take a decision on voter apathy.

We gathered that an Airforce fighter jet was deployed to the State yesterday to add to the Federal might.
It has been reported that the Nigerian Army in Kwara State has allegedly allowed and in some cases partook in targeted harassment of PDP agents, forcing them to leave the polling units where they have been assigned.
This took place in a large number of polling units around Ilorin and Kwara South, as the army reportedly chased agents suspected to be of the PDP, from the polling units, threatening mayhem, if they come back.

As at the time of filing this report, the military has already whisked away the Ajikobi Ward youth leader to an unknown location, on the order of the APC chieftain; Kale Shiru.
That not withstanding, the PDP is reportedly in an early lead across most parts of Kwara South and Ilorin, as Kwarans defy alleged military invasion to cast their votes.

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC operatives intercepted bags of cash meant for vote-buying at North Bank Area, Makurdi, Benue State.

In an attempt to arrest the culprit, some thugs attacked operatives and vandalised the bus used for patrol.

The bags of money are presently in the hands of the security operatives with efforts being made to investigate the issue.

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command has arrested a man in his mid 30s, Monday Awolowo, for being in possession of fake N1,000 notes, TheCable reports.

It was gathered that intelligence gathering led the operatives to the house of the suspect, where, the sum of N272,000 of fake N1000 notes were recovered from him after a thorough search.

The police Command said investigation into the matter were still ongoing to determine the source of the fake bank notes.

According to the suspect who said he had been a taxi driver since 2010, the desire to survive pushed him into the crime.

He said in 2018, some of his friends advised him to abandon taxi driving for a more profitable venture of using fake N1000 notes for business transaction.

“All these N1000 notes are fake. I always add one or two fake notes of N1000 to nine or eight original notes to make up N10,000 so that the loss will not be too much loss for the victims.

“My thought was that the victims could also be lucky to use the fake notes without being detected,” he said.

The state police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, while confirming the report, however said that the suspect is a kidnapper.

He said; “The young man who was caught with fake 1000 naira notes, actually confessed to being a kidnapper. He is among others that carried out a kidnap operation. He is currently with the police, helping the police with investigation that could lead to the arrest of other gang members.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating a case of €150 million money laundering allegation against Alhaji Babalele Abdullahi, a Finance Director of Atiku Abubakar’s group of companies, sources have disclosed.

The source who craved anonymity said that the case was ongoing and that Abdullahi “may be released soon”.

The sources said the money, about N61.4 billion came in before the election.

Abdullahi, also Atiku’s son-in-law, was arrested on Saturday by EFCC operatives at his Maitama residence.

NAN reports that Abubakar, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate at the just concluded Presidential election raised an alarm over the arrest.

Atiku’s media Aide, Mr Paul Ibe alleged that the arrest was part of a “desperate move” to make Atiku concede and congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at about 8.30 a.m. on Saturday invaded the Maitama residence of Abdullahi.

“The EFCC agents numbering about two dozens came in two regular vehicles, an 18-seater Toyota bus (registration Abuja CS 522 RSH) and a Hilux van.

“They came with a search warrant to search the house and office of Abdullah and found nothing incriminating.

“They then proceeded to his office at Oakland Centre in Maitama and found nothing incriminating there.

“However, they took away some documents of landed properties. Not done, the EFCC officials stormed his Wuse residence where they again found nothing incriminating after the search.

“Afterwards, Abdullahi was taken away to the EFCC office in Wuse to make a statement alongside Mr. Lawan Ayuba.”

When NAN reached out to the Acting Spokesman of the EFCC, Mr Tony Orilade, he said that “yes, he is with us.

“We are investigating a case of money laundering against Abdullahi.

“We shall speak at the appropriate time, ” Orilade said.
