Please what is the US Federal police called? *honest question*

The fact that the Secret Service *was* similar to the EFCC years ago does not remove the fact that they have become a highly trained unit for providing close protection for VIPs. In Nigeria the DSS are the ones with equivalent training and weapons. They should be left to provide close protection for the commander in chief

Please do not mind him.he is only seeking attention

In the US, does FBI, which is similar to our DSS, provide security for the President?

The United States Secret Service (USSS) is a federal law enforcement agency under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.[1] Until 2003, the Service was part of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.[2]

The U.S. Secret Service has two distinct areas of responsibility:

Financial Crimes, covering missions such as prevention and investigation of counterfeit U.S. currency, U.S. treasury securities, and investigation of major fraud.[3]
Protection, which entails ensuring the safety of current and former national leaders and their families, such as the President, past Presidents, Vice Presidents, presidential candidates, visiting heads of state, and foreign embassies.

Please do not derail tthe thread. Preferring solutions to our problems is our obligation as Nigerians. Dele Momodu in his own way highlights our major problem, outlined causes and preferred solutionsolution, the same is required of us. No doubt the article is devoid of sentiments and a good read.

Fellow Nigerians, if you are a Christian you must definitely be familiar with the concept of deliverance. Just in case you are a non-Christian and you don’t know what it is to be delivered, then let me explain it the best way I can. A man or woman who requires deliverance is presumed to suffer some spiritual attacks or demonic afflictions. The problems are such that can’t be tackled and resolved through conventional means. In traditional societies, the families, and sometimes friends, of the afflicted often run to a Babalawo who has oracular powers of the third eye and is able to see, diagnose and exorcise the demons worrying the victim of spiritual oppression.
There are Pastors, especially of the Pentecostal denomination who have the capacity to expel or banish the demons and ghosts assaulting the afflicted and restore normalcy to the supplicant. Some people get delivered while some cases are too protracted and defy every power of prayer and restoration. This seems to have been the likely situation with Nigeria. Our case is so desperate that most of us have virtually given up any belief or hope that normal remedies and palliatives can work so that we are now in search of miracles and possible deliverance.
Let’s now try to determine our biggest affliction for which we need urgent deliverance. We shall analyse the impediments we are likely to encounter. We shall proffer solutions without which nothing tangible would ever happen. Here we go.
Ask the smallest Nigerian what our biggest problem is and you’re likely to get a response like CORRUPTION. The word sounds too simple to say and understand but not very easy to decipher under rigorous scrutiny. Let’s employ the simplistic approach. The common denominator of corruption which the man on the street will accept is STEALING. However, the more esoteric will say that corruption is ‘abuse of office’ and stealing is a mere incidence of that abuse.
We can move forward with our lesson in Semantics concentrating on the common man’s definition. What is stealing? A straight-forward answer should and could go this way: “It is an art or science, or both, of pilfering what belongs to someone or group of people!” Won’t you shout Eureka, like Archimedes, to that brilliant definition and revelation? But it doesn’t end there. Our matter is much worse. We actually steal our own property, even if it is our common wealth. This is the crux of the matter.
Why would any sane person steal what belongs to him, you may wish to ask. But until you look well, you may not see or find the answer. Stealing is as old as mankind. The book of Exodus 20:15 is very emphatic in its injunction: “Thou shall not steal…” Theft is treated with disdain and considered Haraam in Islam, totally forbidden and punishable under Sharia Law by cutting off the hands of the thief. Why then do we still steal and commit such monumental sin that every religion frowns at?
My first instinct tells me that we are mostly infidels who pretend to love our faith and serve our God. May be that is also not very correct. So let’s try another approach. Can’t we say the needs of man override all considerations? I see and hear how many Nigerians comment, condemn and pontificate over what has been aptly tagged Dasukigate. It presupposes that only those in government can steal and misappropriate resources while studiously ignoring the private sector. Truth is as the Bible rightly put it “let he without sin cast the first stone.” As long as we limit our attitude to seeing only those in government as rogues, our deliverance would be far-fetched.
My thesis is hinged on these facts. Stealing often starts from human needs and deprivations before it germinates and grows and matures into full-grown greed. Stealing is very attractive to both the rich and poor in our country. Even if you wanted to live like a saint, certain conditions and conditionality often conspire against you. Let me pick one of the commonest of human needs, Shelter. You are a worker earning meagre or major income. You need to rent a house wherever it may be located. Your landlord says you should pay two or three years rent in advance. The most benevolent landlord asks for one year at the beginning of your tenancy. Three or four things are likely to happen to you. One is ask your employer for a loan you are not likely to be granted because business is very slow or the man is just incorrigibly tough. The second is to become beggarly asking everyone fortunate or unfortunate to cross your path for help. The third is to compromise yourself by indulging in all manner of sexual exploitation including female (and nowadays even male) prostitution. The fourth is to descend into the abyss by seeking bribes, kickbacks or financial gratification in every possible misadventure. This is the foundation of the desperation and temptation that leads to large-scale stealing, the likes of which now seems to be a common occurrence in the polity. It is gratifying that the last Fashola administration in Lagos State tried to reduce the burden in this area by legislating that only one year’s rent should be demanded by landlords but the truth is that even this is too high. For most people a year’s rent is sometimes even more than their annual salary.
If you manage to scale that hurdle and somehow manage to pay your rent without compromising your principles, something else comes to challenge your manhood in our kind of society. Members of your family, committee of friends and village elders would soon send a powerful delegation in your direction if they consider that you are affluent but you have not built a house in your village where you don’t live and may never stay and another beautiful home in the city you are domiciled. It does not matter if you’ve been charitable with your income by helping your nieces and nephews, friends and associates to get education or even build their own homes. No one cares how you find the money for this project. It is simply a matter of prestige, not incidentally for you, but paradoxically for them! This is the second level leading to stealing in Nigeria.
The pressure becomes so scorching that you begin to feel the blisters all over you. Your brain starts to work overtime and your whole being goes into overdrive. What can you do? You must find money to buy your land in an area that supposedly befits your status. Meanwhile your regular income is not commensurate to your assumed stature in society, but by this time nobody cares and you yourself are now so far gone that you don’t care too. You must devise means and find ways to steal. It starts slowly and steadily until it becomes a rollercoaster. You need to do your foundation, buy your cement quickly, import your finishing, and so on. It is a rat race. You are running at blinding pace until you forget God and begin to worship the god of money. Can anyone blame you for your slide into the pits of corruption when you can’t readily walk into a bank, fulfil all righteousness and hope to get a decent mortgage?
A brand new home means you need to change your good old reliable banger of a car. As a matter of fact, you must get at least one for Madam if you want peace in the house. I almost forgot that you need one for school runs, one for market trips and another as escort for your personal safety. Your kids must think of going to schools abroad because the ones at home are no longer what they used to be. Everywhere you turn, you need big money. Your church or mosque is undergoing renovation. Your friend’s daughter is getting married. Your schoolmate’s dad has just died. Your cousin has been sent out for unpaid school fees. Your nephew is about to be ejected by his landlord. You have your own pending bills and no one to talk to because they won’t believe you’re only patch-patching your personal life like a vulcaniser. Can you blame any artful dodger for altering the books and running amok with any money in sight?
Let’s call a spade a SPADE, our culture encourages stealing. We must study and imbibe the measures that discouraged and reduced corruption in other climes. Until we do this nothing will change. The present anti-corruption war will evaporate like the ones before it unless we put certain structures in place. I do not know of any developed nation without some form of credit system. You can’t insist on people paying cash for every transaction and expect cash not to vanish regularly and intermittently. Indeed, a viable and credible credit system is a veritable tool for wealth creation of the sort that would take Nigeria to the level that it deserves to be. Our banks and other financial institutions need to change their attitude in this regard. No credit system can thrive where interest rates are as exhorbitant as they currently are in Nigeria. There is no impetus and incentive to repay any credit because there is simply no way to pay back at the rate that is being sought. The Central Bank has a significant role to play in this regard.
The atrocious funds available to politicians also make corruption attractive and intractable. Over inflated contracts have been our banes in Nigeria. Sadly, it has reared its ugly head even in President Buhari’s controversial budget. The figures we are about to waste on pampering our leaders are unjustifiably foolish for a nation in dire straits. Whilst the President is preaching austerity and belt tightening some bureaucrats seem hell bent on treating governance as business as usual. The money channelled into wasteful, profligate and outlandish items and projects should have been pumped into the productive sector thus creating the much needed employment and job opportunities for our army of unemployed youths.
Politics is still the fastest means of getting rich in Nigeria. The Buhari government should make it less attractive but it would only happen if and when the Federal Government tightens its own belt. Instead of making provision for white elephant projects and ostentatious living Government should embark on aggressive industrialisation and invest heavily in agriculture, food production, preservation, processing and distribution. The Governors would have nothing new to learn when the Federal Government itself fails to operate austerity measures. Right now the binge continues. All talk of a fight against corruption thus becomes meaningless and a charade, if care is not taken.
Another area that makes for stealing and corruption to thrive is what the President has described as the rot in the Judiciary. I will however only go far as to say that all is not well with the Judiciary. The Judiciary is the last hope of the masses. It is the last bastion of the fight against corruption and the bulwark upon which democracy is founded. Yet in Nigeria it is bleeding dangerously. The conditions of service of our Judges need to be looked into and the entire system overhauled. A poor judge would always fall for big or even cheap temptation. In other countries Judges are the highest paid individuals because it is recognised that they are needed to sanitise the society and everything must therefore be done to make them comfortable and thus relatively incorruptible. Similarly, a miserable police force would go the same way. An underfunded EFCC, ICPC, Special Fraud Unit, CID, SSS, or whatever nomenclature we give them would collapse under the weight of corruption. All these agencies combined lack the capacity and capability to investigate the horrendous cases at hand. At the rate we are going, most of the cases would stall as always and we may be back to square one unless we change a lot of things around from the way they are presently configured.
Perhaps however the biggest sign that deliverance may never come our way is the fact that Government itself is guilty of stealing from the people. How else can you explain a government that fails to pay its workers at the end of each month not to mention one that does not pay for months on end and still expects dedication, forthrightness and loyalty from its civil servants? To compound matters you have the case of a government which fails to pay pensions on time, or sometimes even at all, to public servants who have rendered loyal and stellar services to their Fatherland. What do you expect those pensioners to tell their children about government service and integrity? The younger generation is ultimately afraid of becoming impoverished like their parents when old age comes knocking invariably. There are many more examples and I have merely chosen two from the extreme ends of the scale but the sum total is that unless the Government itself stops short-changing the people the loyalty it seeks and craves will only be a mirage. Government must first start this corruption crusade from within by embarking on policies which demonstrate that it understands that loyalty is reciprocal and is not a one-way street. Until then not even deliverance or exorcism can save us!

Politics / NPF As A Case Study by Logicalsoul(m): 11:12am On Dec 28, 2015
We have come a long way as a Nation of diverse multi ethnic tribe, culture and religion. We have been waged by several wars. Like the popular saying "if you can't beat them, join them" and It seems this particular war, like an epidemic is ravaging our dear nation without a cure. We seem to have joined them since we can't beat them, but that's a cruel step considering the effects of conceding defeat to this particular enemy. It's fatal to our national growth and stability, it hinders all form of development. This particular enemy is well known by every Nigerian and every sensible Nigerian abhors it, detest it, would never condone it. Yet some welcomes it with arms wide open, with no repercussions because the law is too weak to fight it. Corruption is defined as the act of corrupting or impairing integrity, virtue, or moral  principles . Integrity is a costly commodity most Nigerians can't afford.
One of our weapons used in combating this common enemy is the Nigerian police force. But it's like bringing kitchen knife to a gun fight. In other developed and serious Nations it is an effective tool in combating this menace. But in our dear and beloved Nigeria, it's quite ineffective. Corruption seems to be rooted in our DNA, the NPF lackadaisical approach to this enemy is quite baffling to say the least. Corruption takes a subtle step in subduing its prey, it takes a psychological and societal approach which Nigerians are vulnerable to. A vacuum created by our own dear government. The NPF is tagged as one of the most corrupt government institutions, taking a critical and unbiased look at the NPF, we could simply conclude we are our own architect of our dilemma. The NPF is
plagued with series of internal problems, ranging from recruitment procedures, remuneration, and patriotism. When patriotism is the reason for enlisting for Police, and the government is keeping it's end of her bargain "remuneration" the NPF would become an effective tool in combating  corruption.
We have seen, heard cases of Nigerian Police Officers killing for stipends. Like I said we are the architect of our own problems, when enlisting for Police is seen as last resort, an escape route from poverty and an avenue for intimidation. When most recruits were thugs or criminals before enlisting, we tend to have a faulty institution. In developed nations background checks are done to ascertain eligibility, thereby building an institution of integrity. No doubt even in developed Nations corruption still rears it's ugly head but is constantly trampled on, subduing it to the barest minimum. Psychological evaluation and mental acuity should be a criteria, when police officers understands NPF is like a white cloth that would be stained and rendered useless by oil (corruption), integrity would become their watchword.
There are so many unresolved murder cases, NPF is known for starting but never concluding most investigation.
Investigation requires a level of mental acuity and psychological stability. I have seen some interesting TV series like criminal mind, the mentalist and lie to me. These series centres on investigation using psychology and Scientific approach, regardless of when and where the crime is committed, the culprit will eventually be apprehended. It's no rocket science, I believe NPF can achieve even greater feats if positioned in the right angle. I believe according to the law, an accused is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, but reverse is the case as most officers are judge, jury and executioner. Accused are remanded in cells without any form of investigation or in most cases trial . I have witnessed cases where a police officer couldn't defend himself Sims because his gun was taken away from him by hoodlums, most police force in other parts of the world incorporate martial art as self defence. In Nigeria I know of a great and young zealous people skilled at the martial art, they restore law and order in their community, such institutions ought to be contracted by NPF for proper self defence training. HIOMMA is a professional martial art Academy based in Port Harcourt, coincidentally one of their student enlisted for Navy and became their martial art instructor. Most police officers can't run for miles chasing criminals or would take to their heels when faced with 5 or more hoodlums, reverse should be the case. On the other hand government ought to keep their end of their bargain, a police officer may die on the line of duty and his immediate families would be left to their fate, which is quite discouraging, that's why they deep their hands in whatever could fetch them extra income incase of the inevitable. Nigerian government have a lot to do in boosting the morales of police officers by keeping to their promises. With these in check there would be less stain on the prestigious institution and integrity would be restored. With the present government drive for action I sincerely hope NPF would be revamped to international standard. I believe in greater Nigeria.

Nairaland / General / Nigerians Need A Little Intoxication Of Piety And Humility by Logicalsoul(m): 9:00pm On Dec 27, 2015
Inebriation is a state or characteristics of drunkenness.
Drunkenness is a physiological state (that may also include psychological alterations of consciousness) induced by the ingestion of ethanol (alcohol) {wikipedia}.
People get drunk for various reasons, anniversaries, sober reflection, emotional instability etc.
So many factors could result to inebriation, people get drunk with authority, emotional instability, success, failures. A drunk mind could hardly discern right from wrong, invariably endangering himself and others around as well. Certain religions prohibits inebriation, due to the overwhelming effect on the consumer and humanity at large. We have seen, heard or even read cases of intoxication, which resulted in calamity, misery and untold hardship to humanity. Alcohol intoxication can wane off with time, but intoxication of the mind could have a devastating or
Productive effects. Doctors, engineers, scientists, teachers, are all drunk with a passion for making life less miserable and more enjoyable. Whilst terrorist, rapist, assassin's are drunk with a passion for misery. I have read cases where security  personnel who are supposed to protect citizens get drunk with authority, shooting at the slightest provocation. I have seen politicians get drunk with personal ambition thereby neglecting the core demands of democracy. When was the last time the world's seen drunkard of piety and humility? It's day 622 since over 300 chibok girls were kidnapped by boko haram terrorist, daily, Nigerians troop in their numbers in solidarity for the abducted girls without minding the menace of d deadly terrorist group, but would Nigerians be counting day 622 if the presidents daughter, or Vice presidents or even Senate presidents daughter is among the abducted girls? Oby Ezekwesili and other brave Nigerians are brave enough to stand up to neglect on the part of the federal government , lending a voice to the voiceless. Despite the widespread condemnation of their courageous movement they stood their ground, reminding the government of their electoral promises, I truly admire their courage, but I think holding candle light procession would not change the kind of rigid government in power, a top government official squandered budget meant for purchase of superior firepower to defeat the beast called boko haram, such people are drunk with passion of causing misery and untold hardship not just to the gallant soldiers risking their lives at the war front but also the lives of citizens at large. I feel the bring back our girls campaign should take a more radical approach by demanding immediate rescue of the abducted girls. Our own government care less about protest, NLC should join the solidarity match, shutting down a section of the economy would trigger a rapid response to the cause of rescuing the abducted girls. Instead of holding procession at unity fountain, I think national assembly sessions should be interrupted sending a strong signal to whoever in charge that this is no more business as usual. Nigerians need to be intoxicated with piety and humility. We are a great nation we only need the right intoxicant.

And to show you how VERY IGNORANT and very DISHONEST he is, he posts that Micheal Faraday didn't believe in evolution.

Micheal Faraday was neither a biologist, botanist or zoologist, and certainly did not make any refutation of Darwin's theory, which was published 6 years before his(Faraday's ) death in 1867.

Forgetting, of course that most people, scientists or not, were creationist before the publication of Darwin's The Origin Of Species and the Descent Of Man.

In fact, Darwin's "The Descent Of Man" was published in 1871, 4 yrs after the death of Faraday.

This same cut and paste non-thinker is ignorant of the fact that Robert Boyle died in 1691, more than 270 yrs before Darwin published his first paper on the evolution.
undecided

Johannes Keppler died in 1630, 230 yrs before Darwin's first publication.

Francis Bacon died in 1626, 234 yrs before Darwin's first publication.

And so on and so forth.

This is the end result when religion is your driver.

Evolution is a broad topic, and an agendum for religion to trample on. But are humans really evolving? I would say yes and no. Is evolution hereditary NO. Is evolution confined to certain tribe and  races? Ummm that's a hard sale but yes.
Most people understand evolution only in a biological context, but is the word "Evolution" confined to the journals of biology? Another bigger NO.
Evolution could be defined as "a progression of change often branching and diversifying in the process" Now that we are clear on what evolution is really about, let's discuss on a broader note. We were often told Africa is the cradle of civilization, what we failed yet to understand is that civilization is no longer a baby clunching on feeders, civilization is a matured man with family and responsibilities.there has been enormous and tremendous change so diverse it affects our life positively, it was a burden centuries ago travelling from Nigeria to Burundi, but is an ease now.i asked if evolution is confined to certain tribes or races or hereditary I conform with affirmation.the Arabs, Europeans, Americans, all agree evolution is not a hard sale, but a way of life.unlike Africa with a different mentality entirely. Religion as a way of life.i am not trying to convince anyone into disbelieving in what you believe in. But ask yourself this simple question, were you able to power your phone, cook your meals, set schedules because religion as a way of life taught you so? Religion / Religion Or Evolution As A Template Of Life For Africa by Logicalsoul(m): 6:06am On Nov 22, 2015
Nairaland / General / Mko Abiola The President We Never Had But We Could Still Have.. by Logicalsoul(m): 7:09am On Nov 21, 2015
Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, CFR (24 August 1937 – 7 July 1998), often referred to as M. K. O. Abiola, was a popular Nigerian Yoruba businessman, publisher, politician. He ran for the presidency in 1993, and is widely regarded as the presumed winner of the inconclusive election since no official final results were announced. He died in 1998, after being denied victory when the entire election results were dubiously annulled by the preceding military president Ibrahim Babangida because of alleged evidence that they were corrupt and unfair.
MKO was endeared by most Nigerians, not because of his philanthropic gesture but because he is a man of the people.. Till date he is still celebrated as a hero of democracy, not withstanding the military intimidation, misinformation, he is still being commemorated on June the 12th. He ran for the presidency not because he wanted to enrich himself or his immediate families, he ran because he wanted to affect lives positively, I could vividly remember how found and lovely I used to love Abiola milk, never asked why it was named so, but as I grew older it dawned on me how MKO Abiola really wanted to help The masses and he became famous for it. During political unrest in the early 1990 growing up in a city like Port Harcourt was quite peaceful and fun, I could recall a song sang by virtually all yoruba's I knew, it was like a national anthem, reminding Nigerians about the massive mismanagement and corruption endeared by the then military rulers. The parts of the song I could remember goes thus, E kigbe ole, Ole, Obasanjo, Ole, Babangida, Ole. MKO never enriched himself through politics.
MKO showed entrepreneurial talents at a very young age, at the age of nine he started his first business selling firewood. He would wake up at dawn to go to the forest and gather firewood, which he would then cart back to town and sell before going to school, to support his old father and his siblings. He later founded a band at age fifteen where he would perform at various ceremonies in exchange for food. He eventually became famous enough to start demanding payment for his performances and used the money to support his family and his secondary education at the Baptist Boys High School Abeokuta, where he excelled. He was the editor of the school magazineThe Trumpeter.
MKO Abiola started his professional career in 1956 as a clerk in Barclays bank plc in Ibadan, he obviously furthered his education, hence receiving a distinction from the institute chartered accountants of Scotland. On his return to Nigeria he served in higher capacities at the Lagos state university, pfizer and eventually joining ITT corporation where he rose to the position of vice president Africa and middle East of the entire corporation.
MKO sprang to national and international prominence through his philanthropic endeavours,
From 1972 till his death MKO has been conferred with so many traditional titles by several traditional communities in response to his philanthropic gestures that built over 150 mosques, churches thereby fostering religious harmony. He built over 60 secondary schools, libraries, water projects in several States of federation. In this regard he won admiration among multifarious ethnic groups and religious divides in Nigeria.
Despite his popularity he suffered criticism but he was never detracted.
Despite the annulment of 1993 elections, Nigerians still consider him the president we never had. He won admirations not because he was a business tycon, or because he wanted to become president, he became endeared by Nigerians because of he is a man of charisma and a man of the people.
Very few Nigerian politicians can be regarded like MKO, a man of the people, who became famous not by his involment into politics but being MKO. He was a president we never had in 1993 but we could have a greater MKO in subsequent elections if we let out conscience be our guide and not our desire for enrichment, political or religious sentiments lead us blindly.
I believe in his dream in making Nigeria a great nation. I believe in greater MKO we will soon know and celebrate.
Politics / Brains Not Bullets by Logicalsoul(m): 3:37pm On Nov 20, 2015
The Nigerian civil war was fought to reintegrate and unify the country not to annihilate or to disparage a certain tribe as claimed by many.
The Nation of Nigeria, as it is known today, has never really been one homogeneous country, for it's widely differing peoples, tribes and cultures. This obvious fact notwithstanding, the former colonial master decided to keep the country one in order to effectively control her vital resources for their economic interests. Thus, for administrative control the Northern and Southern Nigeria were amalgamated in 1914. Thereafter the only thing this people had in common was the name of their country since each side had different administrative set - up.This alone was an insufficient basis for true unity and stability. Under normal circumstances the amagalmation ought to have brought the various peoples together and provided a firm basis for the arduous task of establishing closer cultural, social, religious, and linguistic ties vital for true unity among the people. There was obvious division, hatred, unhealthy rivalry, and pronounced disparity in development.
The Nigerian Civil War broke out on 6 July 1967. The war was the culmination of an uneasy peace and stability that had plagued the Nation from independence in 1960. This situation had its genesis in the history and culture of Nigeria. The immediate cause of the civil war itself may be identified as the coup and the counter coup of 1966 which altered the political equation and destroyed the fragile trust existing among the major ethnic groups. As a means of holding the country together in the last result, the country was divided into twelve states from the original four regions in May 1967. The former Eastern Region under Lt. Col. Ojukwu saw the act of the creation of states by decree "without consultation" as the last straw, and declared the Region an independent state of "Biafra". The Federal Government in Lagos saw this as an act of secession and illegal. Several meetings were held to resolve the issue peacefully without success. To avoid disintegration of the country, the central government was left with only one choice of bringing back the Region to the main fold by force. The Federal side expected a quick victory while the Biafrans saw the war as that of survival and were ready to fight to the last man.
The self - acclaimed Head of State of Biafra, Lt. Col. Ojukwu, realizing the hopelessness of the situation fled the enclave with his immediate family members on the 10th of January 1970. The Commander of the Biafran Army who took over the administration of the remaining enclave surrendered to the Federal Government on 14th January 1970 bringing an end to the war, secessionist attempt and bloodshed.
Several lessons were learnt from the war and these have helped in the unification, political, military and economical progress of the country.
Recruitment of soldiers into the Nigerian Army was based on ethnic quota system. Under this system Northern Nigeria provided 60%, Eastern and Western Nigeria 15% each and Mid - Western Nigeria 10%. The standard of entry into the Army was as well lowered to favor the Northerners. As a result the North in 1966 had the absolute majority within the rank and file of the Army.
What seems to me a human tragedy all through ages is the inability of man to learn a good lesson from the past so as to avoid the pitfall of those who had gone before. There is also the innate and unconscious desire of man to remain oblivious of the lessons of the past.
The war had come and gone. The story of the war and what led to it has been told, is being told and will continue to be told. However, there are exceptions of nations and men who had learnt from history to avoid collective and individual disasters or a repetition of such disasters.
Nnamdi Kanu became a beacon of light, after the demise of the great leader Lt Odimegwu Ojukwu. He became a voice clamoring for Biafra. But men like Nnamdi Kanu should have known better than agitating for soveringty through violence.
Ideas not bullets win wars.
The east should focus more on human development, rather than invest massively in lagos and Abuja dedicate those wealth in actually making the eastern region the Japan of Africa
the dredging of the river niger will enable easy passage of cargo ships and boats to the northern parts of the country and will indeed open up the South-Eastern region ,a commercial seaport setup would inadvertently ease the over reliance on lagos sea ports..
With the Delta State Government constructing an International and cargo Airport in Asaba, which if completed will serve the commercial needs of the entire Igbo; it will also be wise if the south Easterners cogitate on constructing a sea port at the Onitsha end of the River Niger. We must not bury ourselves in cheap excuses because we know that with today’s technology in place, anything is achievable, as we have seen landlocked nations artificially create rivers.
Brains not bullets.

Politics / Political Consciousness by Logicalsoul(m): 9:12pm On Sep 26, 2015
Change change change mantra we chanted, argued, shouted, defended even physically represented, because we were fed up with being in forced matrimony with corruption, mismanagement, impunity, disregard for rule of law,we wanted something different from the normal norm. We wanted change, so we fought for change like our lives depended on it, in contrast our lives depended on government policies to say the least. But Nigeria politics is in a whole different realm, where the number one priority of every sensible democratic government is taken for levity. Election as observed in other climes is a peaceful process of electing credible representation , but in Nigeria it is 'survival of the fittest' not credibility.
2015 election is historic not just because the ruling party lost to the opposition party after 16 years of being in control.
But because Nigerians stood up for what we believed in. Even though we were out rightly lied to, we just wanted change. So we stood for something. We realised we have the power to decide our own foreseeable destiny through the ballot box.
2015 is a historic year in Nigeria, it is a year of cleansing, party membership became the basis of sainthood. No Era in human history has seen such massive repentance and recognition of sainthood. I am sure if the Devil holds the party membership card of Apc he would be regarded a saint.
It worked like hypnotism, chant change and your sins would be forgiven even god ascribes punishments for sins, no outright forgiveness but I guess Apc's got a better and upgraded operating system (change).
Opposition party became the ruling party and we hoped for the best, in Apc we trust, days turned weeks, and the avoidable disaster of selfish interest amongst party members almost imploded the once envied party. We were cleared of our hypnosis, we now clearly see and understand sainthood is not bought on the platform of party membership. The great people of kwara are the first set of Nigerians to be cleared of such hypnosis, saraki dynasty is about to go bonkers. Nigerian spring is about to erupt.
If saraki is found guilty of the corruption charges levied against him, what does it say about the party he rode to victory on?
I honestly think Apc is an accidental formation not ready for leadership if it's anti corruption chant is just mere lip service.

Nairaland / General / Ingenious Advertisement In Nigeria by Logicalsoul(m): 12:15pm On Sep 21, 2015
Advertising in business [clarification needed] is a form of marketing communication used to encourage, persuade, or manipulate an audience (viewers, readers or listeners; sometimes a specific group) to take or continue to take some action.(Wikipedia)
I have watched awfully some Nigerian adverts and at the end of it I ask myself is the intended message portrayed in the advert?
One major area most advertisers fail to grasp is the angle of target audience. You cannot spend millions advertising the latest and hottest designer cloths in a cartoon character and expect high patronage. I am not saying animation advertising is wrong, in fact it's quite unique. I bought an Etisalat Sim card due to a comical animation I watched.
I don't intend calling calling names of awful brand adverts, but here's one that got me rolling.
You are advertising freshness of breath and you are blowing away people seated closet to you with the same product thats supposed to connect you. I mean after watching the said advert I laughed till it hurts.
All I am emphasizing is advertisers should stop sending the wrong signal.
Like the comical coke advert that was supposed to be an ingenious feat which turned out to be a disaster simple because Arabs read from right to left, after seeing the advert they saw disaster. They failed in recognizing their target audience.
I am not criticizing anyone I am only offering an opportunity for a better oriented product advert.
I am offering any brand the opportunity free advert consultancy, absolutely free of charge. If my idea seems awful to you you can always use the thrash bin.
Whoever is interested in trying something new should send a mail to
sqaobreed@yahoo.com.
