Politics / The New Order Of Things In Rivers State by lordsterlin(m): 11:05am On Sep 03 |
Many centuries ago, Tom Paine spoke the minds of many when he said: “these are times that try men's souls”. I wonder what he would say today, were he here to see and indeed observe the frightful politics of delusions of grandeur. He would certainly see as does every right thinking man that thoughtful attention to the problems of acerbic and indeed primitive loyalty to certain cleavages has become mandatory for our collective security, welfare and even survival as ministers and parishioners of the state. The crisis permeating from our dear state is no temporary one. It is probable that we are living in one of the great transitions of human history. Clearly, politics and its attendant cleavages and appendages are changing in innumerable ways. Old actors are playing new and often reduced roles and new actors of uncertain quality and prospects are appearing constantly. Very copiously we may be witnessing not only major changes in the order of things but a systemic change that in time may produce a new pattern of political relationships altogether. Quite evidentially, we can say that the hitherto primitive, arbitrariness and the naked embrace of tyrannic style of governance is giving way to a new form of state leadership which is largely humane, considerate, equitos, pragmatic, human-centred and transparent. This is becoming the new order of things here. And unsurprisingly, the attempt by the primary actors who once held sway but who must now take the backseat of leadership are attempting in vain to resist vigorously this momentous change but the question is, do they think they have the capacity to turn the tide? Perhaps, they should be advised and indeed admonished on the futility of their attempts at holding on to straws thinking it can afford salvation. The late literary icon, Prof Chinua Achebe wrote in his famous work titled “Things Fall Apart”, “we stand in the house of cowards to point at houses where brave men once lived.” Those who think they possess uncommon and ungodly bravado should by all means draw inspiration from this quote. They should be told that silence should never be construed as cowardice and those who are noted for being garrulous should not be mistaken as brave as well. While holding on to whatever promises salvation, they should be informed that the order of things is changing very fast and the state, even our state, is benefiting immensely from it. Perhaps, it should be told “in Gath and published in Ashkelon' that these days the new order is embarking on twenty thousand housing units in Greater Port Harcourt City. Those living in and around Eleme are already dreaming and imagining the emergence of a new smart city within their domain Also those living in the shadows in remote places like Bakana, Ogruama, Bukuma and Tombia are in the foreseeable future going to have access to roads connecting their area to Port Harcourt. This is the New Order of Things! |
Politics / An Open Letter To Gov Sim Fubara Of Rivers State by lordsterlin(m): 10:38pm On Sep 02 |
Dear Mr. Governor, I understand very well that you are a very busy man and so may not have the luxury of time to read a lengthy letter as important matters of state can sometimes be burgeoning and will require your attention all the time. It is for this reason that I intend to hit the nail on its head immediately so you can respond to other pressing issues. Sir, you have consistently maintained that your administration will focus on building a sustainable education and healthcare sector. Each time I listen to you say this at state functions, I scratch my head in imagination of what you truly meant. I do this because I know that the previous administration of Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi made tremendous effort in modernizing the Primary school infrastructures and even went further to recruit thirteen thousand teachers to man the classrooms Despite this, I wrote an article wherein I tagged those “model schools” as “Glorified Sepulchres”. I tagged them so because for me, building a school goes beyond renovating and equipping the physical infrastructure. It also goes beyond employing teachers and other caregivers if there is no effective supervision then the efforts are futile. Sir, there is no doubt that that administration tried but the effort was never good enough. That was why officials which included commissioners and other functionaries never sent their children and even wards there. Sir, between 2004 and 2011, I attended secondary school. Within these period, I only learnt Introductory Technology, Agricultural Science and sometimes Social Studies as these were the subjects with available teachers. Government Technical College, Tombia never had teachers for the remaining subjects. Sir, from 2016 and 2020, I was recruited as Npower teacher and posted to CPS Okwuzi, in ONELGA. There, I observed that the school had teachers who are largely absent.! They only come around whenever they receive information that supervisors and inspectors from the ministry are going to be around. Sir, my brother recently returned from Government Secondary School, Obuama and reechoed the same tales of absentee teachers. Even the principal is hardly on ground to supervise teaching. You can confirm this by taking an unscheduled inspection tour of any of the schools in the rural areas and you would be amazed. Sir, I daresay that the problem of education in our state is not because there are not enough teachers, rather it is because of the lackadaisical attitude of those who have been lucky to be employed as teachers and civil servants not doing what they are employed to do. But they draw monthly salaries, insist on getting promotions while staying away from their jobs. Sir, how do we solve this problem? I think I have a solution! The National Youth Service Corps used to have this challenge where corps members fail to stay at their Places of Assignments but draw monthly stipends. The scheme managers solved the problem by introducing biometric monthly clearance without which a corp member would not be paid. This became the magic wand. Sir, if you can direct the State Universal Basic Education Board as well as the Senior Secondary Schools’ Board leadership to acquire biometric attendance registers and have them installed at the various schools first in the rural areas to take morning and afternoon attendance of teachers and other staff within the school system and rely on this attendance to prepare salary vouchers, “ghosting” by teachers in our schools will drastically reduce. Sir, I don't need to remind you the benefit of this investment as you will agree with me that pupils and students in public schools will benefit from this and the menace of examination malfeasance will reduce. After this sir, you can now consider any other intervention in the education system including building new structures. I am aware that this investment is going to cost the state so much but you can agree that it is worth it. Let me stop here as I have already taken much of your time. Sincerely, Princewill Emine |

tasalanoni: Methinks the Op is trying to dance around why he's not inclined to marriage. His reasons are as vague as the meaning of the word. Just simply tell us that yours is a complicated life and that the thought of living a pretentious life with someone you ain't attracted to all in the guise of marriage seem awkward to you hence your decision to pursue adoption. With adoption, you feel your attraction to people of same gender is completely going to be overlooked. This is your primary and secondary reason. You can't fool everyone here as more discerning men like me already know that you're GAY! |

So sorry for loss but I was just wondering why she chose to end her life. Could it be that she found something that made her feel like she can't withstand the guilt, shame and trauma? Suddenly discovering something like HIV infection for instance can make one consider suicide especially if there's no sufficient counseling. When last did you get tested? I am not saying she has HIV infection o, was just imagining. Could she have been abused by someone so close? This can also push her down that road. Please OP, find out why she chose to commit suicide. Start first by getting tested Elizkid: 1 Like |

OP, the name you said your mother told you sounds to me like your dad may be an Akwa Ibom or Cross River person. Only them bear Peter Paul, Paul James, Samuel Peter and all the combinations. Typical Yoruba or Igbo person will bear a name that connects him to his ancestral heritage. To help your case further, please post a very clear copy of the photo your mom gave you so we can run a search on it. Though might be difficult especially if the man is not into social media. |

Health / Help, I Can't Last Beyond 5mins During Sex by lordsterlin(m): 8:34pm On Nov 09, 2022 |
Dear Nairalanders, My name is Preston and I am 36yrs this year. I really need help. For the past 35yrs of my life I have never bleeped a girl or woman. The only thing I've done in the past was just to kiss, kiss and kiss. Another thing I do is to help myself through wanking. Recently, I've got a girlfriend (actually my first). She loves me obviously from her actions. Because I feared I may not be able to satisfy her, I went to buy a drug from a drugstore. The Man told me to take it atleast 10-15mins before the actual sex. I did as instructed but it didn't work as just few thrust, and my yogurts were out. Another day she came when I least expected her. I attempted to do it with her this time. I allowed myself lie while she mounted my rod. Again, just few thrusts, and I was done. This is becoming quite embarrassing. What can I do to solve this problem? 36 Likes 4 Shares |

Why does she claim you irritate her whenever you make those advances? It's probable that the sex isn't good enough. Like I mean, she's never satisfied with how you blow her. Things like this can make a woman (in this case, a wife) to snub the husband's sexual desires. Do get a grip, improve your sex skills and then surprise her. edunaragold: |

Romance / Chioma's Confession Against Apostle Suleiman; This Is What I Think by lordsterlin(m): 3:23pm On Aug 21, 2021 |
Ms Chioma Ifemelu Dike claims that she's now born again, and in order to free her spirit by restitution, she has to expose only one out of the legions of men with whom she committed fornication and adultery, including those that paid for it. Chioma referred to the detractors of Apostle Johnson Suleman, including herself as victims - isn't that ludicrous? For the records, I'm not a follower or fan of Johnson Suleman. In fact I consider myself an antagonist of his, particularly regarding his purported "miracle money". However, in this age of information, one of the quickest ways to boost your online followership is to denigrate people of high social capital, such as celebrities, politicians and pastors. In Nigeria, criticisms against pastors could bring you instant fame, and online vixen should know that. What Chioma hasn't told us: 1. How many times, and with how many persons have you committed fornication, and when are you going to do restitution in respect of each and every one of them? 2. How many times, and with how many persons have you committed adultery, and when are you going to do restitution in respect of each and every one of them? 3. In order to determine whether you're a victim or not: did Johnson Suleman rape you? 4. In order to determine whether you were a victim or not: did you participate actively in the sexual intercourse by mounting or giving him variations of pleasurable positions? 5. What particular sound were you making during your purported sexual escapades: - Were you begging him to stop or go harder? - Were you calling him sweet pet names that should compliment the passion of the moments? - Did you cum? If no, why? If yes, how did it go: did you scream, grab him and start telling him of California and Rumumasi all at the same time? 6. Did you thank him for the money he paid you for the sex? 7. The fact that you were arranged for him indicates your line of business: perhaps he was marketed for your services. Without giving us the full list, picking on Johnson Suleman would be indicative of prejudice. 8. Have you stopped rendering the service? 9. Were you dragged to Oriental Hotel? 10. Did you pay your Tax and Tithe out of your income from your specialized services, including one you claim to have rendered to Johnson? 11. Is this the first time you're giving your life to "Jesus"? If no, how often do you do your restitution? 12. From your narrative, it is certain that Johnson was not the first man to have purportedly had carnal knowledge or study of you. - Why mention only him? - Are your other sexual perusals not sinful? 13. Lastly, didn't you feel any anointing being released into you? Until you answer these questions, shame on you for growing your social media popularity at the expense of a pastor. 2 Likes

Crime / Why I Support The End SARS Protests by lordsterlin(m): 11:26am On Oct 10, 2020 |
My Sars experience happened 2/3 years ago. I have chosen to forget it until now. These guys were SAKs (anti kidnapping squad) they accused me of stealing my father's car on my way to get fuel just two streets away from home, still in my neighborhood. They asked for papers, they did not even look at the papers when I gave them. They asked me out of the car with a gun pointed at me and put me in cuffs saying I stole the car. They threw me at the back of their van. I was totally wowed, cuz, I could not believe it. I didn't even argue I just couldn't. They were the ones with the guns, so, they win. Wetin I wan talk? One of them drove my dads car behind following. What saved me...was that literally everyone was watching. It can be embarrassing but it's always helpful if the world is watching. When they drove to their next stop in the next street to apprehend a group of boys managing their lives...the whole neighborhood was shocked to see me in cuffs at the back of their van...I remember this particular woman asking strongly, "what did he do?" And the SAKs man was asking her to stay back. I told her they accused me of stealing my father's car!! Everyone knows the car in the neighborhood...it was just ridiculous! She was like... "Na him papa car na!!" They asked if she was my mother, I didn't answer, they threatened to cuff her too if she came near the van. She was furious! Calls were made, some people began to come out... they said they will shoot, if anyone drew closer...my brother came with my driver's license(I didn't have it, they didn't ask either)...and then these mudafukas denied I didn't show them the vehicle papers. I remember my bro shouting at me to show the the papers...I yelled back at him "it's with them already!" They said they were not with it! Everyone fucking saw me giving it to them!!! At this point I was done. I was just helpless. I wasn't even ready to stress myself. If I'm going to be put in cuffs and treated like a criminal, I should at least look pretty. So I kept quiet and kept a seamless face. They began bargaining money with my bro. One man who lived in my compound came to also talk with them. Personally, I didn't care because it was still funny to me. It was still looking like a joke to me. Even after I was released moments later...it was still like a joke that wasn't funny. Unfortunately, it wasn't a joke to those people who had lost their lives in the hands of these men!!! Their money and their sanity! The trauma that follows with such abuse can be damaging for life and the painful fact that no one is paying for it is just why we must #ENDSARSNOW 1 Like |
Politics / Can Mother Nigeria Ever Have Their Own Version Ngozi Okonjo-iweala? by lordsterlin(m): 2:37pm On Oct 09, 2020 |
I have unsurprisingly heard many person's send congratulatory messages to the former Minister of Finance, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala PhD because of her numerous achievements in the global stage with her very recent exploits in the nomination process to be the first ever female Director General of the World Trade Organization. It is true that the Delta State born development economist has distinguished herself in her chosen area if endeavor but then would she have achieved this feat had her husband Dr. Ikemba I. Iweala who is an emergency medicine physician in Washington, District of Columbia, not allowed her or given her the unfettered freedom to build on her enduring career? You must realise that as staff of the World Bank, Mrs Iweala required studies upon studies so she can meet up with the demands of her office and other aspirations. The need to study means that she must create time out of her very busy schedule to seek sound education in the Americas, Asia, Europe and in whatever place there's new knowledge. As Managing Director in the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank) she must keep late nights attending one board meeting or the other. As Managing Director, she had oversight responsibility for the World Bank’s $81 billion operational portfolio in Africa, South Asia, Europe and Central Asia. Okonjo-Iweala spearheaded several World Bank initiatives to assist low-income countries during the 2008 – 2009, food crises, and later during the financial crisis. In 2010, she was Chair of the IDA replenishment, the World Bank’s successful drive to raise $49.3 billion in grants and low interest credit for the poorest countries in the world In the midst of her very busy schedule, she must also nurture her children to become her good ambassadors. Did she fail in that? Not exactly! Her children may not have had the kind of Fame their mother has but then they can stand on their own and be counted differently as successful people. Her husband did not envy her as he also has a career of his own that keeps him very busy. This is the 21st century! Back home, President Buhari once said: "I don't know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room." This view by the Nigerian president is shared by many in Nigeria today. They do not see anything good in women except to make babies and to give them(the men) sexual pleasure. To prove that this crude pattern of thinking is very much real in Nigeria particularly in the North, Sahara Reporters in the week reported the following: “Hisbah is punishing youths for keeping afro hair and sometimes it is accompanied with beating. "They have also prevented women and girls from using smartphones, claiming that it is used to spread unIslamic behaviours". Why taking part in the mandatory National Youth Service scheme in the North, I discovered that only a few of the girls in the classroom her single as most of them even at the age of 14 and in JSS 2 are already married with one or two child(ren). With this kind of behaviour still prevalent in Nigeria how can we ever have another Ngozi(s) whose parents and husband(s) would allow to pursue her/their careers? 1 Like 1 Share

Politics / Buhari's Foreign Policy Is Too Weak For My Liking by lordsterlin(m): 10:39am On Sep 07, 2020 |
Sometime ago still within the lifespan of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, ceaseless xenophobic attacks occurred against particularly Nigerians in South Africa. In those attacks, properties of Nigerians living there were looted massively while some lost their lives. As a trained diplomat, I had advised the Nigerian government to show cause why other African nations should respect our nationals. For goodness sake, our country prides herself as the proverbial "Big Brother" in the continent. This notion has even influenced our foreign policy direction over the years. Nobody or national government can put under a blanket our unique African history especially when it comes to helping our brothers in the region fight their fight. We have helped almost all African states to achieve independence. Zimbabwe, Angola, Liberia, Sierra Leone, South Africa amongst many others all have evidence of our giant footprints. There are those nations we even went our way to provide electricity for despite we not having. Our judicial officers paid with Nigerian taxpayers money were posted to Gambia and indeed every African state where there's a seeming shortfall in their judiciary. Nigeria in the past, helped to train their military and also undertake other important task just to promote the comradeship of Africa. Despite all these, if the South Africans decide to disrespect us for whatever reason, I advised the government headed by President Buhari to act decisively against such irritants to serve as deterrence to others. Had the government heeded to my admonition to expel the South African ambassador to Nigeria as a start, the Ghanaian government would not be acting this soured script on our nationals in their country. A country's foreign policy is pursued mainly on the premises of their national interest. As Prof Adaye Orugbani puts it, "self preservation, the maintenance of the physical integrity of the country and the unity of its people are the most important interest of a state". By electing to send envoys to South Africa and now to Ghana, the Nigerian government headed by President Buhari has shown that Nigeria is in a weaker position in relation to those belligerent nations. No doubt, those nations including Ghana and South Africa know very well that Nigerians are maltreated in their home country and that many of them are willing to do anything to flee to anywhere that is not Nigeria just to have respite of some sort. Former presidential candidate and owner of Ovation Magazine Dele Momodu was apparently very miffed by all these seeming incompetence hence his outburst during his interview with The Punch Newspaper. According to him, Buhari lacks understanding in terms of foreign policy and has not been receiving the necessary advice. “A lot of people have complained that a lot of the ministers don’t see President Buhari and he himself actually gave a hint when he said during the time of Mallam Abba Kyari, his late chief of staff, that they should go through his chief of staff. That is part of the problem,” he said. “If you have a president that is accessible, who they can explain these things to and he would understand them, that would have helped. “Also, speaker of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, would not have gone to Ghana if he had not got a tacit approval from the presidency. “If the President had told him that Ghana was maltreating our people and that we couldn’t go there now until the issues were resolved, he wouldn’t have gone. “If I were Buhari, last week I would have suspended our relationship with ECOWAS; let all the presidents in ECOWAS go and talk to their colleague in Ghana to relax. Like I said, diplomacy is not about nice words,” Momodu said. “I felt depressed and scandalised when I read that the speaker of the house of representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamiala, was travelling to Ghana. There is nothing wrong with going to Ghana but not in the middle of this crisis, unless there was a guarantee that before he would leave Accra, they would have opened the shops. “If a country is hostile to you, this could have been the best opportunity to tell them that even if you are invited to a parliamentary session, you tell them you are sorry, you are not able to come. That is what Donald Trump and people like that would have done. They would cancel it and send a strong message. “Nigeria has refused to send any strong message to any country. The worst of it was South Africa, not even Ghana. People died, yet they would invite your president to come and they will be doing a brigade of guards.” |
Politics / Why I Think Nnamdi Kanu Is A Fraud by lordsterlin(m): 7:55am On Sep 06, 2020 |
On daily basis, what you hear in the news is one scary tale of how the Security Operatives had this confrontation or the other with the membership of the now proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB). When you hear this news, what comes to every sane Nigerian's mind is, these young men and even women who dare to confront law enforcement agents do they think at all? Do they consider that by doing what they are doing, they are deliberately putting themselves and the members of their families in arms way? How some of them die like chickens doesn't even occur to the remainder of the members as on daily basis, one hears of new dimension of madness from them. As I tried to critically analyze why these men are so drawn to the cause of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the only conclusion I got was that he may be using them to play a hard game of chess. He may also be a student if Robert Greene and his 48 Laws of Power. In that book, Robert Greene took time to explain how leaders can grow a cultlike following amongst those they lead. According to the work by Mr Greene, "people have an overwhelming desire to believe in something. Become the focal point of such desire by offering them a cause, a new faith to follow. Keep your words vague but full of promise; emphasize enthusiasm over rationality and clear thinking. Give your new disciples rituals to perform, ask them to make sacrifices on your behalf. In the absence of organized religion and grand causes, your new belief system will bring you untold power". Now the question is how did Mazi Nnamdi Kanu gain this kind of following amongst the Igbos in the Southeastern part of Nigeria and even among those in the diaspora? I daresay, he may have gone ahead to execute the five steps mentioned by Robert Greene. The steps are: To create a cultlike following, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu needed to catch peoples' attention with something easily believable without much thinking. He knew how the Igbo's followed the Late Ikemba of Nnewi, Chief Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu! He knew the Biafran story as espoused by the late icon. With former President Goodluck Jonathan losing the presidential election in 2015, he knew how disillusioned and discombobulated the people of the Southeast and Niger Delta were and so he capitalized on this seeming frailness and announced the pursuit of a fathom Brafra! Robert Greene had said, to gain attention, your initial speeches and conversations must include two elements: "on the one hand, the promise of something great and transformative, and on the other a total vagueness". You would agree that this has a way of stimulating your audience with certain dreams whether achievable or not. The second step according to the steps mentioned by Robert Greene, is to deliberately avoid anything that would result to boredom and skepticism amongst the flocks. Of course, where there is skepticism, have the potential of making the membership think rather rationally which ultimately may dismember the group, so the author advised that you dazzle your followers with some kind of visual splendor. To practically do this, Mazi Kanu attends political campaign activities of leading international leaders like that of President Donald Trump. He deliberately takes a picture and shares same on Social Media, making the people believe that he's meeting these leaders and that in no time, the object of his fancy, a sovereign state of Brafra would emerge from the cloud. Whenever he observes that the people are becoming fed up with his antics, he manufactures the notion of "Nigerian government did not like Igbo's". So it is a situation of " us versus them". To achieve this, he sponsors the media to be silent on positive news in favour of those in the Southeast but elaborately sensationalize appointments made to those in the North. Expectedly, those who are not properly informed buy into this gimmicks and conclude that Nigeria under successive government particularly the one headed by President Buhari is anti Igbo. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is no doubt a very smart man. His strategies so far has made members of his group continue to swell beyond even his own imagination. This growth has enabled him to also become stupendously rich as most of them do monthly and yearly contributions to finance his many oversea trips. Making them part with their hard earned money is easy but sustaining it might not be hence he moved ahead to organize his followers into a kind of hierarchy with various titles and positions that seem to make them think they are a part of a grand scheme for the liberation or restoration of Brafra. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu knows from day one that his supposed quest for a new state of Brafra is not genuine. If it were, he would've encouraged his followers to massively participate in the politics of the Southeast to elect federal and state lawmakers who will champion a constitutional amendment to include the absent referendum in the constitution. This way it can be lawful for Nigerians from the east to through a referendum determine whether to remain or go. 6 Likes |

Politics / Chief Dumo Lulu-briggs Is An Angel by lordsterlin(m): 6:28am On Aug 03, 2020 |
"My prayer everyday is for this Angel to have the opportunity to be our shepherd; I am confident that the flock will be safe and well in his hands." In 2014, I led a student group to Chief Dumo's guber campaign office. In the course of the campaign, I got to know what kind of person he is. Truly, he is such a benevolent soul just like his father (may God bless his soul). After the primaries, everyone went their separate ways but I never failed to virtually keep in touch by occasionally sending text. I created a whatsapp forum with him as participant. One day, I got a message from him in the forum asking me to nominate two of my friends who in my assessment were indigent and may find it difficult to pay their school fees. He told me to be honest as he was also going to pay my fees, so I shouldn't try to be dishonest. I later got to know that the largess was replicated in the 23 LGAs of Rivers State. This was after the 2015 governorship elections. My friends and I got credit alert of good sums of cash each for our fees. I sought him just so I could say thank you, but he declined as he was not interested in where I come from or anything. I graduated that year and was due for national service but couldn't pay my clearance fees. I had no one else to call so I decided to send him a text. His reply was "send an account". I did and my account was handsomely credited after about 20 minutes. One day, I was going to Abuja from Port Harcourt for an interview, and the vehicle I entered got involved in an accident. I was affected and hospitalized. Again there was no one to call so I sent him a text. His response was " send an account". And he helped me out. During the covid-19 lockdown, with everywhere very tough, I had nothing to feed as the school where I work as a teacher had stopped payment. I decided to try my luck again with Dumo by sending him text, again his response was " send an account". He delivered me. It is important to mention here that in all these interventions, the Chief never bothered to know the person he was rendering help to. Simply put, he did not know me and in fact even if I stood in front of him, he can't really identify me unless maybe Baba T who has met me. Now tell me, who else can be this benevolent, if not an Angel? May God continue to bless Dumo Lulu-Briggs. I pray that we all discover the gold that is deposited in this man and collectively explore him for the good of our dear Rivers State. My name is Princewill Emine. 2-08-2020

Politics / President Buhari Should Resign If Ibrahim Magu Is Indicted For Corruption by lordsterlin(m): 5:50pm On Jul 15, 2020 |
Winston Churchill was quoted as saying " the price of greatness is responsibility ". A lot of people don't want to be responsible for the choices they make, and they often don't want to admit that their decisions have real life consequences. Try as you might, you can't escape the consequences of your decisions, whether good or bad. Every choice carries a consequence. For better or worse, each choice is the unavoidable consequence of its predecessor. There are not exceptions. Gary Ryan Blair to buttress this point posited thus; 'If you can accept that a bad choice carries the seed of its own punishment, why not accept that a good choice yields desirable fruit'? With each choice comes consequence. No amount of rationalizing or complaining will alter the consequence. If you pick up one end of a stick(choice), you also pick up the other end of the stick (consequence of that choice). There is a human desire to be miraculously delivered from the consequences of an action. We tend to seek a rescue from consequences with little or no effort on our part. This tendency can easily be seen manifested by those who have incurred large amounts of debt and then seek to be delivered from the bondage and obligation of repayment through bankruptcy, or those who seek deliverance from a disease of choice by taking a pill to treat the symptoms instead of changing the behavior that causes the symptoms. We should seek to change our actions because we cannot choose the consequences. We must accept responsibility. When President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 sent the name of Mr Ibrahim Magu to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), he passed many credible Nigerians who may have better credentials and character than the one so appointed but then the government which he (Buhari) heads chose Magu and insisted on him despite the many protestations by the Nigerian Senate head by Dr Bukola Saraki. The Saraki led National Assembly had hinged their rejection of Mr Magu's nomination on the strength of a certain security report presented by the Department of States Service (DSS). Instead of listening and replacing Mr Magu, the President Buhari led Nigerian government stuck to their guns and decided that no law bars Magu to remain in acting capacity. The vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo even went forward to say the federal government do not need any senate confirmation for the EFCC since the anti-corruption agency was not a creation of the 1999 constitution. Only ministers mentioned by the country's constitution can be presented for confirmation. These were Mr Osinbajo's words at the time. Prominent personalities in the legal profession like Prof Itsay Sagay, a renown jurist, even gave a tacit support of this position as espoused by the vice president who is also a lawyer on silk. Today, with the man so painted with the messianic apparatchik on suspension because of alleged corruption and abuse of office, those who earlier saw this coming and acted promptly by refusing to give the needed clearance for the man to be confirmed have become vindicated while those who insisted that he was the best thing after "slice bread" have been put to shame. If the Justice Salami led presidential probe panel eventually indicts Mr Ibrahim Magu, then all those who insisted on him to remain the EFCC czar must apologize to the Nigerian Senate but more importantly to Nigerians who entrusted their confidence in the Gen(Rtd) Buhari led presidency. Aside the public apology, the President together with his vice, must jointly tender their resignation from office for ignoring early warning signals thereby embarrassing the country before the international community.

Politics / Tribalism In President Buhari's Nigeria; A Blessing Or A Curse? by lordsterlin(m): 12:26pm On Jul 02, 2020 |
The late literary genius, Chinua Achebe observed that there is nothing in Nigeria's political history that clearly captures her myriads of problems of integration more than the chequered fortune of the word "tribe". According to him, the word, " tribe" has been accepted at one time as a friend, rejected as an enemy at another and finally smuggled in through the back door as an accomplice. Many a time, prominent leaders of thoughts have tried howbeit in vain to banish the term "tribe" from our national lexicon. This is because any intelligent and useful discussion of tribalism is very often thwarted by vagueness! We all agree that there are manifestations of tribal cultures which we cannot condemn. In fact many of these manifestations are positive and desirable and confer richness on our national culture. But to prevent a citizen from living or working anywhere in his country, or from participating in the social, political, economic life of the community in which he chooses to live is another matter altogether. Prejudices against strangers is an attitude one finds everywhere but then no modern state can lend its support to such prejudice without undermining its own progress. Recently, President Buhari sent names of 41 ambassadorial nominees to the Nigerian Senate for screening and approval. Of the number, the North in total had about 24 while the South managed a paltry 17! Of the list the Northwest got 8, the Northeast 7, North central 9, Southwest 7, Southeast 4 and the South south 6. From the list states like Ekiti and Abia were conspicuously missing whereas some had as much as three(3) nominees! It was to avoid any seeming lack of balance in appointments into key sectors of the economy that gave rise to the formation of the Federal Character Commission by the framers of our constitution yet our leaders are still more comfortable in the company of their tribal warlords. People from a particular region are considered more competent to lead the judiciary, the EFCC, the military and police and even the NNPC thus giving credence to the now famous "97% - 5%" comment credited to the President when he was interviewed by a reporter in faraway America. In conclusion, a Nigerian child seeking admission into a federal unity school, a student wishing to gain admission into a university, a graduate seeking employment in the public service, a businessman bidding for contract, will sooner rather than later fill out a form which requires him to confess his tribal affiliation (or less crudely, and more hypocritically, his state of origin). Once, I was denied the chance to see my Post UTME result at the University of Nigeria because I was not from the East. My UTME score at the time was 245, I had applied to study Law there. After sitting for the screening test at the astronomy hall of the university, my result was never released like that of others. The excuse given at the time was that, I may have cheated in the exams. Imagine! This was an examination that was heavily invigilated with candidates sitting at least two feet distance from each other. I later had to change institution to the University of Port Harcourt where I wrote their POST UTME and scored 289 and subsequently got admitted to study History.

Politics / Obasanjo's Call For Restructuring; Why The North Will Continue To Resist It by lordsterlin(m): 10:19am On Mar 10, 2020 |
Lagos state is the richest state in Nigeria because of the many companies there. The state contributes the most VAT revenue to the federal government yet has only 20 Local Government Areas. Rivers state is the hub of oil and gas and so contributes the most in terms of oil revenue to the federal government yet the state has only 23 Local Government Areas. Lagos and Rivers states have a combine 43 LGAs whereas only Kano state has 44 local government areas, which is tantamount to 44 monthly allocation accrued to it from the Federal Government. Now notice that Kano has no boundary with any country, meaning that, it does not generate custom duty. Kano leaders because of religion detest alcohol, meaning, no Value Added Tax on alcohol from Kano state. Kano has no oil deposits or mining company, so there is no oil or mining tax revenue generated for the Federal Government from Kano state. Kano has no known agricultural production company despite all its farming population. Yet, Kano is able to carry out massive projects more than Kogi, a state harbouring Dangote cement, Ejiba Niger River basin, part of Rivers Niger/Benue and the internationally recognized Itakpe iron ore and Ajaokuta steel complex. Go to Lokoja, the capital of Kogi and you'd be ashamed because of how squalid the capital looks when compared to Kano. In terms of projects, Kano state is obviously doing better than the so called oil producing states. Kano is not generating virtually nothing in terms of naira and kobo to Abuja, but it is spending more than those who contributed the most to the Federal Government's revenue. Can you imagine? The question now is, why would Kano state and her leadership support "restructuring or true federalism" when it serves it better to lazily receive a free monthly allocation without sweating? Why would any governor from the North truly support "restructuring or true federalism" when there is easy monthly money from Abuja? Why would the North let go of the presidency, when with it they can frustrate the aspirations of others just so they continue to stay afloat? As i see it, no politician from the North in a position of authority will truly support "restructuring or true federalism." Forget the Governor El-Rufai's committee report on restructuring. As evidently we have seen that nothing can ever come out of it. If the South wants restructuring, the best thing to do is to pursue serious constitutional amendments with the various inputs and deductions. But then with the North having more members in the National Assemblies and with that part of the country having more states and so more combined members of the various Houses of Assemblies, any constitutional amendment that is perceived to be attempting to change the status quo will be rejected. 1 Like 1 Share

Politics / President Goodluck Jonathan Failed Olisa Metuh by lordsterlin(m): 7:26am On Feb 26, 2020 |
When the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charged Olisa Metuh the former Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party for laundering funds meant for the war against Boko Haram, Metuh had explained that he could not have known the source of the funds Col Sambo Dasuki (the National Security Adviser) gave him. He went further to explain that the said 400million Naira his company received was for a stated national assignment approved by the then sitting president Dr Goodluck Jonathan. To defend himself therefore he requested the Justice Okon Abang led court to subpoena the former President and Col Sambo Dasuki (the giver of the money) to testify reasons why his company was given such funds. But quite surprisingly, Jonathan the acclaimed hero of Africa's democracy failed to show up in defense of the then National Publicity Secretary of his party despite him been the approving agent. The former President as it would seem only secured immunity from prosecution for his immediate family while his aides are hounded. We all witnessed how Orubebe and others including Deziani Allison the former Petroleum Minister is been branded as looters. Jonathan and his wife Patience Faka continues to visit the presidential villa to wine and dine even though he ought to be called to account for the humongous pillage of our nations financial resources under him. Metuh and Sambo Dasuki should not suffer alone because someone superior to them gave them express permission to assess the funds as such they should not suffer alone while their ex boss walks freely. 69 Likes 6 Shares

Politics / President Buhari Might Be Removed By The Supreme Court If... by lordsterlin(m): 4:59pm On Feb 25, 2020 |
Following the manner in which the APC leadership reacted fiercely to the judgements of the Supreme Court in both Zamfara and Bayelsa states, the PDP has according to Kola Olagbodiyon has concluded plans to demand for a review of the judgments of the apex court in the 2019 Presidential Election Petition, Governorship petitions of Kaduna, Kano, Kastina and Osun states. It is pertinent to note that in the petition brought by Senator Ademola Adeleke and the PDP, the tribunal declared the petitioner as the winner of the election but the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court relied on mere technicalities not on any substance to return Oyetola and his APC as duly elected in the state's governorship election. It is instructive to assert here that, Justice Tanko Mohammed who was brought in as Chief Justice of Nigeria because President Buhari has this phobia for working with persons from southern Nigeria and who do not share his religious views, during his screening at the Senate, clearly stated that the Supreme court under him will not rely on technicalities but on genuine issues to ensure that the purpose of justice is not defeated. Observers both locally and internationally know that the Apex court was arms twisted in that judgment and subsequent decisions in the Atiku petition. President Buhari, if the judges of the higher court decide to consider only the merits of the arguments of the Atiku legal team in that petition, will agree that Buhari lied on oath when he said his credentials were with the military board but later Abba Kyari brought a supposed certificate from Cambridge claiming same to be the missing certificate of the retired military general. If the Supreme court judges were to be fair on this case, President Buhari will not only be removed as president but the ranks he attained in the army will be withdrawn while he spends the entirety of his remaining years in correctional facilities for the offense of joining the military as a cadet without possessing the requisite qualifications to serve as deterrents to others. But we know that the justices of the Apex court will not have such balls because of the fear of their families been hounded by criminal elements sponsored by powerful forces. This impending hounding has already started with the protest been sponsored at the residence of Hon Justice Mary Odili and the recent arrest of the two sons of Justice Tanko Mohammed. |

Politics / Port Harcourt Is Originally Borokiri Not Igwuocha As IPOB Claims by lordsterlin(m): 12:38pm On Jan 31, 2020 |
The original name of the entire Port Harcourt was Borokiri, given to it by pristine settlers, the Okrikans. The colonial masters, when they made their incursion, gave the name Port Harcourt to it. Because of the influence of the colonial government, in the colonial era, Port Harcourt, as the name, gained currency and overwhelmed the original name, receding and confining it to a very small part of Port Harcourt called Town. Even after reign of the colonial masters and during the era of the defunct Eastern region, when the Igbos held sway, in terms ruling over the combination of the present South-South ( Niger Delta) region and the Southeast region, there was no part of Port Harcourt called Iguocha, a name referred to it by Igbos. This desperate reference only became attractive to them in their desperation to annex Port Harcourt and its Port to their Southeastern region. There's nothing historical that suggests that Port Harcourt is part of the Southeast. The idea of it belonging to the Southeast first occurred and gained potency, when Nigeria was balkanised into three regional structure, namely: The Northern region, Western region and the Eastern region. The successful balkanization, among the three major tribes of the country, was as a result of the then existent oppression that rode roughshod over the minorities of country. Even the treaties signed between d minorities of South, now constituting the South-South region, and the colonial government, in favour of the minorities, before independence, could not influence the fiendish and oppressive intent of the balkanization. Therefore, in defiance to all the treaties benign to the sovereignty and safety of minorities, they were carved and subjected to influence of majority tribes. The minorities of d South were carved into the defunct Eastern region, under the influence of Igbo majority tribe. It was during this era of the Eastern region the Igbos had an epic influence over Port Harcourt, appointed their kit and kins as mayors and rulers over it and, in the event, sold almost all land to themselves at the detriment of the aborigines, the real owners of the land. It's for this reason that almost all the streets are in Igbo names. Until the real owners wake from their lethargy, defy their inherent docility, pick up the gauntlet and take the bull by the horn, the situation will remain or even grow worse. 1 Like |
