Travel / Re: Any Nairalanders Living In Paris? by luckbealady: 11:57am On Aug 24, 2015
Does love flow in Paris? if you have the right qualities yes it does. If you speak the language you will have a better time quickly accessing information, however don't expect all Parisians to be kind to you, they are customarily very rude and impatient with foreigners that cannot bother to try to speak french. Paris is a very tough place to live if you do not have the right resources, language skills, a good job, the right visa etc. I hope this answers your question.

Travel / Re: France Visiting Visa To Working Visa, how Possible? by luckbealady: 5:19pm On Aug 19, 2015

Please someone please help us here. If your in france or been to france please say something. We the amateurs need ideas from experienced people.. Please how can one change the status of visiting visa to working visa while in france. Please help out..

In France, you cannot change a visiting visa to a working visa. If you study (university) in France and graduate, the government will give you a one year residence permit to find a job, if you are employed by a company with a full-time contract before the expiration of that 1-year permit, then you are set.

Travel / Re: Securing Visa To France, Applying From Nigeria... by luckbealady: 6:24pm On Aug 12, 2015
The France embassy will look for proof she can afford to stay in Paris for 3 weeks (reputable hotel for 3 weeks) in addition to her transportation, food, shopping etc.
The minimum balance one should have in their account over 3-6months should be ~ 3M Naira so that the embassy knows you are not going to be a liability to the French state. Bear in mind, do not suddenly increase the bank account with a lump sum of money prior to your appointment, the government is looking for consistent earnings month over month that builds your account balance up. In addition they will be looking for spending and expenses month over month and if your wife can really afford to travel based on your income, her income, your account balances, your expenses etc. I hope this answers your question. Good luck

You have many of the documents required for proof. This being said there is no guarantee about visas, but the better prepared you are the better your chance will be to have a visa. For your financial accounts, make sure there is regular activity a least for the past 3-6 months. The embassy want to see that you will not become a financial burden on France or decide not to return to Nigeria. The more things they see that you have that must bring you back to Nigeria, stable financial situation relative to your monthly financial obligations, the price of the hotel reserved in Paris relative to your income. For example if you earn 3M per month in income but you book a cheap hotel (<150EU/day) they may flag your application as not consistent with your reported income.

The invitation from the institution could go a long way as long way. Anyway I wish you the best on your application.

Nairaland / General / Re: Check Out This World Most Expensive Wine Burgundy At $15,195 A Bottle by luckbealady: 3:36pm On Aug 11, 2015
Actually this is article is not accurate, I saw a bottle of Bordeaux wine for 45,000 Euros yesterday while I was visiting a wine cellar in Paris for wine tasting. But I am guessing that the vinyards don't like to put the information out there like that.

Xprone:
France’s famous Burgundy region has a double reason to celebrate, with a rare vintage from the area emerging as the world’s most expensive wine just after the region was named a UN world heritage site.

Richebourg Grand Cru sells at a whopping $15,195 (14,254 euro) a bottle, according to the Wine-Searcher website list of the 50 dearest vintages.

The website’s table of the priciest wines includes 40 Burgundies, with just five non-French wines making the cut — one Californian and four from Germany.

The news comes just after Burgundy’s vineyards were crowned in July with the world heritage distinction by the United Nation’s cultural body.

UNESCO recognised the uniqueness of the vineyards of the Cote de Nuits and the Cote de Beaune south of the city Dijon which produce some of the finest red wines in the world made from pinot noir and chardonnay grapes.

The Richebourg Grand Cru was a Cote de Nuits created by Henri Jayer, a winemaker widely considered a visionary in the business, who died in 2006 aged 84.

Jayer was opposed to using chemicals in the winemaking process and believed in small-scale production, turning out only about 3,500 bottles per year.

In fact it is another Henri Jayer wine, his Cros-Parantoux Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, which comes from a tiny 1.01 hectare (2.5 acre) parcel, that grabs third place on the list at $8,832 a bottle, according to Wine-Searcher, which updated its table earlier this month.

The website, founded in London in 1999, releases periodic updates to its 50 most expensive wines list, which is based on prices from nearly 55,000 wine merchants and producers around the world.

The analysis that produced the most recent update concerned more than seven million wines of all vintages, taking an average price per bottle.

Romanee-Conti, Burgundy’s most famous fine wine, came in second on the list at $13,314 and the vineyard has a total of six bottles on the table.

Other “grand crus” from Burgundy, such as Vosne-Romanee and Montrachet are also among the most expensive.

France’s Bordeaux wine region, for all its prestige, has only two wines on the list, both Pomerols: the Petrus and a Le Pin.

Two German winemakers, Egon Mueller and Joh. Jos. Pruem, each have two wines on the list, including Mueller’s Scharzhofberger Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese demi-sec selling for $6,630 a bottle in fourth place.

The only other non-French wine is Californian Stanley Kroenke’s Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon, coming in at 14th place with a $2,884 price tag.

Burgundy’s inclusion on UNESCO’s vaunted list may bring further economic benefits for the region, because as well as being a powerful tourist draw, world heritage sites are eligible for financial assistance towards preservation.

Paris for a MBA, My travel date was for August 1st and school resumes in October

I saw this post just want to give some pointers on French administration (includes embassy & consulates).

In July & August, many public servants in France administration are on vacation, so the administrative process is really slow. I have a friend from Nigeria whose French student visa took 3months to be approved, and she lost some of her money deposited for accommodation. So my advice is apply as soon as possible, and anticipate delays. France is not known for efficient administrative process at all, I know this because I live in France.

Please house, my mum wants to apply for schengen visa through France, what document would she present in lieu of employment and leave letters as she is a retired civil servant.
Also, when does your date begin to count,is it from the date the visa is issued or the date you enter a schengen country?
Your prompt response is highly appreciated

It will be very tough for your mum to get a visa, unless she can show several of the following
1. Significant amount of money in her bank account
2. Invitation from a family member legally living in France with significant income who will take responsibility for her during her trip
3. Significant monthly income from pension
4. and/or an active business in her name with money coming into the business accounts.

Does she have any of these? How long does she plan to visit France?
