Music/Radio / Trouble In MMG AS Meek Mill Disses Wale On Twitter by lurge(m): 6:46pm On Jul 08, 2014

There seems to be some trouble in Rick Ross' Maybach music group as Meek Mill and Wale, two rappers under his label are having some beef with Meek calling Wale a cornball out on Twitter for failing to tweet about his forthcoming album.
Meek announced a release date for the upcoming LP and was heavily promoting it on Twitter, and undoubtedly some of his MMG counterparts followed suit-- except Wale.

Meek tweeted: "When u young and successful..U experience a different type of racism.and it brings jealousy, hate & a new level of people tryna bring u down," thus alluding that Wale is jealous of Meek's success. "Wale just ain't gone tweet a thing about my album.... He's been hating on me long time now ...don't even text me cornball! #UNOTMMG," Meek said of Wale.

Music/Radio / How To Promote Your Music In Nigeria by lurge(m): 12:35pm On Jun 27, 2014
Every upcoming musician wants to “blow” (make it big) in the Nigerian music industry. A major question they ask at the beginning of their musical journey is how do I promote my music?
Since major record labels like mavin, Kennis Music, Chocolate city and Storm records that can manage, package and promote your songs will hardly get you signed, you will need to take up responsibility as your own music promoter.
My experience shows that unlike the USA where big labels like Sony BMI, Rockafella and Young money records can sign up an artiste based on raw talent alone, in Nigeria you will have to showcase your talent and songs to a certain extent before you will be noticed by the music promoters, marketers and record labels.
There is the believe that without the big bucks you cannot promote your music on the radio stations which prompts thoughts like if only I had a record label/marketer/promoter.
The good thing is you can do it yourself without putting a big hole in your pocket and you do not have to rely on any record label, marketer or promoter.
Following the tips below will show you how to promote your music and get that basic exposure while also increasing your fan base.
Note that nothing good comes easy and you will need to sacrifice either in form of time, efforts, a night’s sleep just to get what you want.
Apply the tips to your success.

1. MAKE GOOD SONGS:
Sorry I cannot teach you how to write a song. I believe you are reading this because you have the talent already to compose and record a good song. The type of song you do should be targeted to an audience with a good taste in music. It does not matter the genre hip-hop, funk, rock, house, R n B, classic, alternative- whatever! You should do music to impress thousands of fans and not just your family and close friends.

2.ATTEND SHOWS REGULARLY:

Be it a club performance or sponsored show just be noticed. Keep your ears on the ground for upcoming shows and try to make friends with event organizers and tell them to put you on the list of performers and that you don’t mind doing it for free. Talk to the DJ at the club, give him a promo copy of your CD and encourage him to play it on his shows. You get to meet music industry people at musical shows. Build and maintain your contacts with them. You don’t know who has a marketer in Alaba or who has a friend in that radio station.
3. USE SOCIAL MEDIA:
Open profiles on sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace which gives you the platform to interact with your fans. Update your social network profile regularly with interesting pictures and videos of you. Photos from an event you performed or a video of a studio recording session should do. You get not only fans from Nigeria but all over the world with these type of websites. Social networking site gives you an online following which is good for your music career. Do not underestimate the power of the internet in building your music career.

Business / Re: How To Promote My Fiverr Gigs by lurge(m): 12:01pm On Jan 09, 2014
Open an Oyibo Facebook profile and join lots of groups related to the services you offer on Fiverr and then promote your gigs on those groups.
Foreign fiverr profiles seem to get more credibility so a Yankee or UK profile is much preferable to a Naija profile.
Other social media sites like twiTter etc, linkedin and pinterest are cool as well for promotion.

Music/Radio / 10 Nigerian Artistes To Watch Out For In 2014 by lurge(m): 6:43pm On Dec 21, 2013
As an entertainment blogger, critic, reviewer and promoter of Nigerian music, I observe trends and following the song releases of 2013, decided to put up a list of 10 Nigerian artistes to watch out for in 2014.
Enjoy the list:

10. Ink
Ink to me is the revelation of the year. I heard his song once on air and having an ear for good music I instantly became a fan. His classic single “My Medley” which is a mash up of MI’s African rapper #1, Iyanya’s Kukere, Iceprince’s Aboki and D’prince’s Goody bag in his own flow on Drake’s Marvin’s room instrumental s can only be done with someone of great talent. Given the right level of exposure, the young rapper will go far.
9. Seyi Shay
The only female on this list, no doubt she’s got Sex appeal which is a huge seller. Her dexterity, attention grabbing stage performance, excellent vocals and continuous innovation could place Seyi Shay as one of the topmost female acts in Nigeria come 2014. She’s got a great P.R and I’m surprised her collabo with Timaya did not become a hit.
8. Lil Lurge
When you talk of an artiste with raw talent then you can’t leave this young chap out of it. A little brush up of his act, finesse of flows and a dynamic management will see Lil Lurge rise to fame and take relevance in the Nigerian music industry come 2014. I can’t deny, the boy’s got swag. Check out his collaborations here and here.
7. Blo
Blo is one rapper with great street appeal. Listening to him brings back thoughts of the late Dagrin. He delivers on any beat he spits upon and judging by his giant strides, he’s ready to leave underground for the mainstream industry. The way we see it, Olamide may be getting some fierce competition come 2014. Listen to his latest song here.
6. Skales
Yes you’re surprised as much as I am. I know I classified him as overrated but we all know Skales has not yet reached the peak of his musical career. Despite his consistency, fortune has not yet smiled on him and we hope he’s consistent enough to make it into the league of the big boys come 2014.

Investment / Investor Needed For An Entertainment Company by lurge(m): 6:52pm On Dec 19, 2013
I have been running an entertainment firm for almost 3 years now and I understand the trends and what it takes to be successful in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
My startup is looking at expanding into a full fledged entertainment company by 2014. That means we have the road map on ground and would want a serious investor with a passion for music, events, pr, movies and more to come and let's make this a reality. We can talk more if u shoot me a mail on geosurveys44 at gmail dot com. See u there.

Islam for Muslims / Re: An Open Letter To All Muslims by lurge(m): 6:53pm On Dec 11, 2013
deols:

There are many of this kind of letter. I will search and if I find them, post them here. It is inherently a part of Islam to protect people of other faith found in Islamic territory.

I believe what we see now in the form of intolerance from some Muslims stem from the crusade(killings by the christians.).

Muslims who would not see beyond vengeance decided to take up arms against those whom they see to have wronged them. This certain belief grew into the different terror organisations that exist now. I just wish they can all see this aspect of Islam and realise they are very wrong.
We know you're a muslim so don't try to defend the wrong doings of your brothers. Their actions makes people regard them as a violent religion. We all know Christains are more peaceful. Please mind what you say. You're making inciteful statements and I really don't want to start a fight here.

Afrobeat star Femi Kuti has been nominated again for another Grammy award. He was nominated in the best world album category for the album "Singing for peace around the world". The bad thing is this is not the first, second or third time he's getting a nomination but he has never won. Do you think he will ever win this time around or in the future?
