charlie42:If u don't have a better alternative, then take it. Consider d pay as a "seed" which is bound to grow. The secret is that, "it's not what u earn dt counts but what u do with it"- Bishop David Oyedepo. ENSURE u always pay ur tithe and d "way" must surely open 4 u 2 a better deal. It may not be immediate o, just like it takes time to harvest ur planted seed, but sha, way must open by fire by force. Best wishes! Happy new year 2016 4 Likes |

skydude: Bia, Skydude, abeg take ya thyme o. 2day-2day, u don enter my soup and I will not curry ur flavour! 5 ppl bin tork put 4 ds mata, u nor tork o, u quiet like d person wey loss money, nay my own u see abi? All ds woman beans sef. I yam only xprsg my fund woman rice nah! How e com be say d person wey dey try 'settle quarrel' dem dey accuse as 'chief noise maker'? Thank God say u nor be police or else, just like Mopol Manya u 4 dey select d motorist wey u go arrest. ------------------------------- But on a more serious note, 'corrections' like these are GOOD and HIGHLY wlcm. That's part of d aim of ds thread - and as teachers ourselves, if we can't correct ourselves 4 whatever reason(s), what moral ground have we to correct our wards/students? The other day (when u were absent from 'school'), on pages 396-397, it took d eagle-eyed 'nairaland grammatical policeman'- MrOlai, to 'enlighten' most of us (including urs truly). Biko, corrections no be in-salt o, na 2 oil our vocabs. As d saying goes, 'No one is perfect'! Thanks. .............................................................. #the_ food _don_done? |

Firstman01:Hmmmm........., I agree it's contextual but "is the pay worth applying?" is slightly ambiguous. . (1) The sentence could be likened to "is the ointment worth applying (to d injury)?" In d latter question, we apply/use d ointment as a "healing" agent. Can we likewise say we "apply/use" the "pay" to (do) sth, as d former question succinctly suggests? (2) Neither do we apply 4 a pay EXCEPT 4 A PAY RISE!!!. This is d crux of d matter! . Conversely, "is d job worth applying?" ALSO falls flat when used in d "ointment" context BUT scales d 2nd hurdle in d sense dt we do/can apply 4 a job!. Me thinks "does the pay/take home/salary justify applying for d job (in d 1st instance)?", "is it a high-paying job?", "is d pay proportionate/commensurate with d job?", etc are clearer. 1 Like |

pateffy: Fez (actually, face cap is d bastardized term), was originally a brimless hat with a tassel attached at d top (as seen in d 1st image below), usually red and worn by some Muslims. The modern version has a brim (2nd image), from which d baseball cap was(probably) derived. "Fez cap/face cap" is tautology since fez=cap! It's like saying, "Departure time is 2pm in d afternoon ---------------------------- Fez in English/spanish = Fez, Fez in Turkish = Fes Fez in Morocco= taboosh, Fez in french = (is still) FEZ 1 Like 1 Share

Kaysalas: IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is a certificated programme whose examination is conducted by the University of Cambridge thru Cambridge International Examination CIE (an examination board akin 2 waec). . As a teacher, one can apply 2 be an IGCSE examination Assessor/(assistant) examiner to CIE via d University of Cambridge ; but d Good News is dt u can "short-circuit" d stress of correspondence between u & UOC by applying thru British Council In (Lagos/Abuja/PH) in Nigeria. . The BC administers this exam (& many other intl exams) on behalf of UOC. . 4 more info: **www.cie.org.uk/cambridge-for/examiners/ ** http://www.britishcouncil.org.ng/exams-faqs |

artisticallyart:Hmmmmm..... teacher ~ Lecturer = gross~ 144, all na semantics! But nor be diah I dey go 2day... Dt one na 4 anoda time. . Ehn-ehn, my broda nor go diah o. Shey u bin know say some ordinary teacher dey earn pass many lecturers? Yes, 4 dis naija o! . Yea, majority of d teachers on dis thread (and in naija as a whole) find demselvs in d teaching Prof by Providence. Many ventured into it as a stop-gap measure in lieu of dt juicy appointment in banks, oil coys, traveling 2 'obodo Oyibo' etc. And b4 u know what's up, time 'Haff go'. Hkhen-hkhen-hkhen **muffled koff** urs truly was also gui............ Even many of those who are professionally trained teachers went 4 it because of jamb/utme/post-utme/cash crunch brouhaha. All u need 2 stay above 'water level' is 2 know ur game and play it perfectly well. . (i) Ensure u are above board in ur field. Leave no room 4 loop holes. Be the very best in ur subjects of concern. Once u are really good in ur subject(s) u will always be sought after. Teaching is one of d jobs where 'man-know-man' won't/doesn't usually fly! For instance, I know of one person like that (whether in d body or d spirit 'awa' not know) who has NEVER been turned down 4 incompetence reasons. That's how tight his game is. . (ii) Ability to teach more than one subjects. The more subjects u can teach, the more ur cash-flow. Your Income is a function of ur versatility. . (iii) Job satisfaction: Personally, I derive joy when my students understand what I'm trying 2 pass across. Also, teaching gives me d room 2 'flex'. Dhoooor! Teaching (2 me) is like being paid 2 do what u love most. It's something I always look 4ward 2. . (iv) Certifications: Get certified! eg, IGCSE, CIE etc. Thru ds, u stand a greater chance of working in international schools (not d 'kereje' ones with one dingy 'international school' (sic) signpost o). Some of them pay as high as 250k (and more). When u add private lessons 'kunkushi' to d mix,.............. uuuuuuuuuuuu-la-la! Even many of our tie-knotting bross in d banking industry don't................... . **yawns** **glances @ clock** Yeh! Past 11pm?! **Zzzzzzzzzzz ** 10 Likes |

manie: Not really. In naija, as at 2day,Teaching profession is 1 of d largest employer of labor- if not d largest sef! Be u ssce, ond, HND, BSc/ B.A etc, d market is diahhh! Banks, oil coys, manufacturing industries etc, are not "supping-up" applicants as d teaching profession and 419ners are also conversant dt d ppl are aware of this fact. So, they gasto change dr parole, and guess what? Teaching profession is d "fall guy". |
