Foreign Affairs / Re: Why Do Africans Love America So Much? by magubane: 4:05pm On Dec 09, 2014
I'm disapointed at what I'm reading here...people we are all in denial
Just look at your DStv channels and you tell me go to your local box office and you tell me go to DStv catchup and see the programming available it's all american if someone is nominated for a bet or a grammy we praise them bt no one ever praise a SAMA or metro fm award winner we are always wanting approval from america.

I love my country bt I hate to admit it that if I buy dstv premium I wnna watch the kardasians, lifetime and FOx and if I see someone making it in America I think he's made it.......admit it or not we are in love with america
TV/Movies / Multichoice Adds 342 000 New Dstv Subscribers; Dstv Boxoffice Now Tops A Massive by magubane: 12:12am On Dec 08, 2014
The pay-TV market in South Africa remains hot with strong growth despite tough economic conditions with Naspers' pay-TV division MultiChoice which grew with an additional 342 000 DStv subscribers in the first half of the financial year and with DStv BoxOffice rentals now topping a massive 600 000 movies a month.

While South African consumers are experiencing belt-tightening and with a lackluster offering from the struggling public broadcaster, they're not willing to forfeit their television, with pay-TV which not only remains a must-keep expense but keeps adding subscribers willing to pay for more and better TV content.

MultiChoice's PVR base - subscribers who have and use its DStv digital personal video recorder - has expanded to 1.2 million subscribers.

In the 6 months to 30 September, MultiChoice has grown its DStv subscribers to 8.4 million households that is 25 400 000 south africans 55% of the population and recorded an 18% year-on-year growth, with revenue of R20.2 billion.

"Pay-TV benefited from a 16% increase in DStv subscribers year-on-year, and a 5% increase in subscription rates in South Africa," Naspers said. MultiChoice has spent R642 million during the 6 months on developing digital terrestrial television (DTT) and online video initiatives.

"Customers rent 600 000 movies per month on our DStv BoxOffice service and we will soon expand this service into sub-Saharan Africa," said Naspers.

MultiChoice now operates DTT in 11 countries - but not yet in South Africa - and has around 873 000 subscribers. it is also investing heavily in growing and expanding its TV production capacity in Nigeria in West Africa and Kenya in East Africa.

MultiChoice owns and runs GOtv as its DTT platform which it offers in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia, covering 112 cities.

"We continue to scale our transmission platform and place decoders in markets where we expect analogue switch-offs in the foreseeable future. These switch-offs, once implemented, should provide momentum for further subscriber growth," said Naspers.
Music/Radio / The Biggest Music Industry In Africa by magubane: 8:08pm On Nov 26, 2014
The south african music industry is well managed from distribution to record sales everything is recorded.
big four record labels, 1. Sony Music, 2. Universal Music, 3. EMI and 4.Warner Bros. Records (part of Gallo Warner in South Africa).
RiSA is responsible for running the annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs) and for acknowledging certification awards for album sales. In the past, RiSA has also published a top-20 chart, but it does not do so anymore. RiSA is recognised by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry as the official National Group for the Recording Industry in South Africa, and the only recognised in AFRICA

A music album qualifies for a platinum certification if it exceeds 1,000,000 copies shipped to retailers and a gold certification for 500,000 copies shipped.[citation needed] Prior to August 2006, the certification is 50,000 and 25,000 copies, respectively.

But for local releases gold is 20 000 and 40 000 for platinum.

Artists like Brenda have sold over 500 000 records in the first week of release with Zahara in 2012 selling over 400 000 records and going double platinum in her first week

One of the highest selling records
#adele sold 120 000 records 3X platinum
#Coldplay went platunum
#katy perry went platinum
#Beyonce sold over 80 000 2X platinum
Taylor swift has already gone gold
Local artists going platinum this year

Madam Zill has zero power. I haven't even heard from her since the general elections in May where she took the back seat to let the new poster boy shine. Her party must have asked her to chill after all the drama she caused on twitter.
She is a premier and the only female premier in the country.

At the age of 63 porn in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, this woman is the leader of the official opposition party in parliament of the most powerful country in Africa and greatest democracy on earth.

She is the Premier of the Western Cape,a member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, leader of South Africa's opposition Democratic Alliance political party, and a former Mayor of Cape Town.
