Politics / Bring Buhari Home I Will Cure Him Like I Cured Babangida – Guru Maharaji by Marawes: 1:47pm On Aug 17, 2017

The Founder of One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has called on the Nigerian government to bring ailing President Muhammadu Buhari to him as he will heal him of his ailment.

Maharaj ji, who spoke at the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria also assured Nigerians that challenges confronting the nation would soon be over.

He said he was ready to heal Buhari if the presidency could bring him home.

“I do not believe in sickness. The President of Nigeria is great. And he should remain so. And that is why if he comes to me for healing, I will heal him. I have done it for several public office holders.

I remembered that I treated Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), when he was afflicted by an ailment. I cured him. But he later denied me. He said the presence of the president was needed in the country, as it would douse agitation of Nigerians and help address issues challenging the country.

According to him: “Since he left, the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has been acting on his behalf. And I believe he has defied Nigerians prediction that he will be a figure head. I believe he knows what he is doing.”

Politics / Buhari Can’t Return Because Nigeria’s Medical Services Is Very Bad – APC Chief by Marawes: 9:34am On Aug 17, 2017
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Charles Udo Udeogaranya, has said President Muhammadu Buhari cannot return to the country because the, “medical services in Nigeria lags way behind other countries of the world.”

Udeogaranya, who made the statement yesterday, noted that those demanding that the President returns to Nigeria from London, where he has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness do not wish him well.

The APC Chieftain maintained that Buhari does not have to be in Nigeria to govern.

He said: “We all are aware that infrastructure wise, particularly on medical services, Nigeria lags way behind other countries of the world and therefore it would be safe to say that anyone demanding the president to return to Nigeria hurriedly is not wishing him well.

“Nigeria needs president Buhari to be well and alive to conduct the 2019 general elections successfully and hand over power peacefully or otherwise, oversee any major restructuring that National Assembly members may approve.

“This is imperative, in order to avoid national instability that may crack the centre due to the high level of hopelessness among many Nigerians who have totally given up on governments at various levels.

“I continue to plead with all Nigerians not to give up on Nigeria as I see hope for a better Nigeria 2019, where I hope to emerge as president and wipe away every tear of yesteryear and reposition Nigeria on the path of an exponential and sustainable development.”

Politics / Northern Youth Groups, Igbo Leaders Set Up Reconciliation Committee Over Quit No by Marawes: 4:51pm On Aug 05, 2017
Amid rising tension created by the quit notice given to members of the Igbo community to leave the Northern part of the country by October 1, 2017, officials of the northern youths groups today met with Igbo leaders from the 19 northern states. The two sides agreed to appoint a reconciliation committee of ten men to find a lasting solution to the tense situation.

The meeting between the groups took place at Chinese Dragon Restaurant in Kano. The convener, Isah Tijjani, disclosed that the committee was given 72 hours to submit its report. He urged its members to place Nigeria first in their deliberations.

Members of the committee are drawn from the two main sides. The members of the Arewa Youths Coalition are Abdullahi Toro, Abubakar Kagu, Yima Sen, Dauda S. Shamakeri and Ado Mohammed. From among the Igbo group the members are Chi Nwogu, Eze Ngozi Nwaine Oso, Igwe Ibekwe and Magnus Ihejirika.

The Northern youths’ group is led by Shettima Yarima while the Igbo group is led by Igwe Igbekwe.

Arewa Youthleaders
Mr. Tijjani implored the committee to come up with a position that enhances understanding between the two groups for the peaceful coexistence and development of the country at large.

Our correspondent reported that a heated debate ensued between the groups before an agreement was reached to set up a committee.

In his initial statement, Mr. Yarima revealed that his group’s quit notice to Igbo people in northern Nigeria was triggered by the violent agitations instigated by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), adding that Igbo elders failed to call the IPOB leader to order.

He said, “We have had a meeting with the Ohaneze Youth Council in Kaduna, [and they] dissociated themselves from Nnamdi Kanu, and we got all sorts of condemnation from the South East. So we couldn’t understand what was really happening.”

On his part, Mr. Ibekwe gave assurances that his group believed in the peaceful coexistence of all groups to the benefit all Nigerians.

Addressing the northern youths, Mr. Ibekwe asked, “When you issued a quit notice, where do you want us to go? For your information, none of us is a member of IPOB. Since the issuance of quit notice, you will notice that many things [have gone] differently. If you are a businessman you will understand what I am saying more clearly.”

He became the first participant in the talks to suggest composing a reconciliation committee. “Let us have a committee that will sit and discuss all these issues,” he urged. He added, “Let there be peace. We should all mellow down please.”

Representatives of Igbo communities from all the 19 Northern states, including Abuja, attended the meeting. Various participants at the meeting were seen exchanging banners after the sitting.

Politics / Delta State Governor, Speaker Celebrate Ex-convict James Ibori On Birthday by Marawes: 4:01pm On Aug 05, 2017

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Sheriff Oborevwori, speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, have described former Governor James Ibori, an ex-convict who served a 13-year sentence in Britain for laundering state funds, as an impeccable leader who fought for resource control in the country. The two state officials lauded Mr. Ibori in separate statements released by their respective spokespersons to celebrate the former governor’s 58th birthday today.

In February of this year, Mr. Ibori was released from a UK prison after serving a term of 13 years for offenses that included the laundering of public funds which he laundered through British banks and other financial institutions.

Mr. Ibori entered a guilty plea that enabled him to evade a public trial. Before UK authorities pulled off Mr. Ibori’s conviction, Nigeria’s anti-corruption officials had failed in an attempt to prosecute the flamboyant ex-governor on similar offenses.

On Mr. Ibori’s return to Nigeria after serving his jail term, he was welcomed to his hometown of Oghara by a huge crowd, including state officials, who spoke about him in heroic terms.

An opposition politician in Delta State, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said he was ashamed that “Governor Okowa and the Honorable Speaker think of Chief Ibori as a man who made legendary contribution to the development of our state. And they are praising the man despite his theft of jaw-dropping sums of public funds from his people.”

Speaking through his spokesman, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa stated, “Deltans and Nigerians cannot forget in a hurry how you labored to build the most virile, potent and unassailable political family in Delta State and beyond even as your legacies still dot the nooks and crannies of the state.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I felicitate with a leader par excellence, Chief James Ibori, on the occasion of his 58th birthday.

“It is our prayer that God will continue to protect you and grant you good health to render more services to mankind.”

In a similar vein, the speaker’s media aide, Dennis Otu, said: “The former governor we are celebrating today laid solid foundation for the rapid development of the state in his eight years as a governor. Deltans cannot forget in a hurry the transformation the state witnessed during the administration of the former governor.

“I rejoice with you as you are being celebrated today. I pray the Almighty God that has sustained you this far to continue the good work in your life.”

During the frenzied reception for Mr. Ibori on his return from incarceration in the UK, many Nigerian police officers were caught on various videos cheering on the former governor.

It's so annoying the way Nigerian politicians are playing games with poor Nigerians.
Politics / Seven Governors Visit Buhari In London Today by Marawes: 3:50pm On Jul 26, 2017
Mixed reactions at Abuja House

The Governor of Zamfara State, and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Abdullaziz Yari and six others departed the country yesterday on “a goodwill visit” to President Muhammadu Buhari in London today.

President Buhari’s personal photographer, Bayo Omoboriwo is also expected to be on the entourage. The five All Progressives Congress (APC) and two opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors are to represent the six geopolitical zones of the country at the instance of the NGF.

They are: Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Kashim Shettima (Borno), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo).
Briefing State House correspondents on the visit‎, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina who was joined by his colleagues Garba Shehu and Laolu Akande, both Senior Special spokesmen in the presidency, said the visit was a follow-up to the one by Governor Okorocha.

On why Governor Ayo Fayose is not part of the delegation, Adesina in a terse response explained that the selection “was done by the governors forum.” On why the President has failed to address Nigerians via a broadcast, Mallam Shehu said :”It is a question of what he prefers and this is what he prefers for now.

He would rather receive that delegation and that is what is happening. If the president opts for an address he will do it.”

Meanwhile, at Abuja House, the official house of the Nigerian high commissioner to the Court of St. James’s, aides of the president and staff of the embassy occasionally moved around the building , discussing in groups yesterday.

Calls of “excuse me sir, is the president returning soon and how’s the president?” were not answered. However, one responded briefly after waving down the car driving him out of the property around 2:00p.m. When asked “how’s the president?” He replied “He’s doing well, he’s okay, “ before asking: “which media house are you from?”

Another aide who spoke with The Guardian through the gate, told the reporter to go through the proper channel. “Go to the embassy or the media head” – making reference to the president’s special assistant on media, Femi Adesina.

When told that they had no information concerning the president’s situation and then asked if the president would be returning within a
fortnight, he said: “You know there are things that should not come from me, you have to go through them.”

Inspection finds Muslims books in school saying husbands were allowed to beat their wives

The Government has ordered the takeover of a state-funded Muslim school in Birmingham where a boy died in March.

Ofsted visited the Al-Hijrah School after nine-year-old Mohammed Ismaeel Ashraf reportedly suffered an allergic reaction and collapsed while at school. He was taken to hospital, but died shortly afterwards.

An earlier inspection found books in the library that said husbands were allowed to beat their wives and could force them to have sex.
A June report said the school was “inadequate”, saying pupils were not “sufficiently” safe and staff were not prepared for medical emergencies.

The school is currently embroiled in a long legal battle to allow it to segregate girls and boys.

Amanda Spielman, chief inspector at Ofsted, told The Sunday Times: “I am deeply concerned about the idea that total segregation of children within a mixed school is acceptable.”

In November, the High Court ruled that Ofsted inspectors were wrong to punish the school on the basis of the “erroneous” assumption that segregation amounted to unlawful discrimination.

The judge said: “There is no evidence in this case that segregation particularly disadvantages women.”

But Ofsted is appealing the decision and a Court of Appeal has been asked to give a final ruling on the issue.

Foreign Affairs / Grace Mugabe Declared Presidential Successor In ZANU Youth League Circular by Marawes: 11:54am On Jul 25, 2017
Members of the ZANU PF Youth League have declared President Robert Mugabe their life President and First Lady Grace Mugabe as her successor.

In a declaration widely circulated among party members and said to be earmarking at getting 500 000 signatures before being presented to Mugabe at the end of his ten youth interface rallies, the youths declare that they will never vote for anyone else to lead Zimbabwe other than a person from Robert Mugabe’s family.

The call is a tip of the iceberg of confirming long standing rumours that First Lady Grace Mugabe is positioning herself to take over from Mugabe with one of their sons also on the way to take over from her.
The circular which has fallen into the hands of ZimEye.com reads as follows:

The Youths declare before you and before God that you are our leader until He decides He wants you at His side in Heaven; then we will honour His and your signs that you have chosen Her Excellency Dr Grace Mugabe to be our new Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

Her Excellency is the only person qualified to be the guardian of your legacy, and only a Mugabe can guide the nation in our founding philosophy of Mugabeism – your gift to the people of Zimbabwe and the whole Africa.

We promise that we would not dare dishonour your legacy by electing anyone other than a Mugabe as our President.”

While the circular went aflame on Monday, a direct comment from either party spokesman, Simon Khaya-Moyo, or the Youth League secretariat could not be obtained at the time of writing.

Science/Technology / Kenyan Girls Invent FGM App, Head To Google HQ For Technovation Contest by Marawes: 5:48am On Jul 25, 2017
Five Kenyan girls are in line to win a $15,000 prize for developing an application helping fight Female Genital Mutilation – which is prevalent in parts of the country despite being illegal.

The five girls – aged between 15 – 17, are the sole African representatives at the Technovation event to be held at the headquarters of Google in California, the United States.

Their app is known as the I-cut, its main aim is to put an end to FGM. I-cut presents a total assistance mechanism to girls at risk of FGM. It also connects victims with rescue centres and gives legal and medical help to those who have been cut.
Its simple interface has five buttons – help, rescue, report, information on FGM, donate and feedback – offering users different services, Reuters reports.

The international Technovation contest, is a platform where girls develop mobile apps to end problems facing their communities.

Technovation, is sponsored by Google, Verizon and the United Nations, aside promoting tech innovation among girls, it aims to teach girls the skills they need to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders.

“FGM is a big problem affecting girls worldwide and it is a problem we want to solve,” Stacy Owino, one of the girls told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

“This whole experience will change our lives. Whether we win or not, our perspective of the world and the possibilities it has will change for the better.”

The five girls from Kenya’s western city of Kisumu call themselves the ‘Restorers’ because they want to “restore hope to hopeless girls”, said Synthia Otieno, one of the team.

One in four Kenyan women and girls have undergone FGM, which involves the partial or total removal of the external Instruments, even though it is illegal in the East African nation. Although the girls’ Luo community does not practice FGM, they have friends who have been cut.

Kenya is one of the most technologically advanced countries in Africa, known for its pioneering mobile money transfer apps.

Celebrities / Another Woman Comes Forward To Talk About R Kelly 'sex Cult' by Marawes: 2:56pm On Jul 24, 2017

Another young woman has spoken out against R Kelly saying he almost lured her into his life, but that she’s the one who got away, reports TMZ.
Speaking to TMZ, the woman said she also met Kelly backstage after one of his shows when she was 20 years old and that they started texting and calling each other after that.
Kelly reportedly promised to help her become a model and actress. But she says things got weird when she visited his Georgia home. After being told by Kelly to wear something sexy, she took a friend with her on the visit. On arrival no cellphones were allowed and she was taken to Kelly’s bedroom where he convinced her to take sexy pics and strut around like a model.
He paid her afterwards with instructions of what to buy with the money and to wear it on her next visit. After he booked her a one-way plane ticket and told her to not bring her friend, she felt uneasy and told her mother who intervened and cancelled the trip.
This report comes after an investigative article by Buzzfeed News claimed R Kelly is holding women against their will in a sexual and abusive cult.

Kelly, who has since denied the reports, had no comment on the newest report when contacted by TMZ.

Health / South African 9 Year Old Child Cured Of HIV by Marawes: 2:28pm On Jul 24, 2017
A nine-year-old infected with HIV at birth has spent most of their life without needing any treatment, say doctors in South Africa.
The child, whose identity is being protected, was given a burst of treatment shortly after birth.
They have since been off drugs for eight-and-a-half years without symptoms or signs of active virus.
The family is said to be "really delighted".
Most people need treatment every day to prevent HIV destroying the immune system and causing Aids.
Understanding how the child is protected could lead to new drugs or a vaccine for stopping HIV.
The child caught the infection from their mother around the time of birth in 2007. They had very high levels of HIV in the blood.
Early antiretroviral therapy was not standard practice at the time, but was given to the child from nine weeks old as part of a clinical trial.
Levels of the virus became undetectable, treatment was stopped after 40 weeks and unlike anybody else on the study - the virus has not returned.
Early therapy which attacks the virus before it has a chance to fully establish itself has been implicated in child "cure" cases twice before.
The "Mississippi Baby" was put on treatment within 30 hours of birth and went 27 months without treatment before HIV re-emerged in her blood.
There was also a case in France with a patient who has now gone more than 11 years without drugs.
Dr Avy Violari, the head of paediatric research at the Perinal HIV Research Unit in Johannesburg, said: "We don't believe that antiretroviral therapy alone can lead to remission.
"We don't really know what's the reason why this child has achieved remission - we believe it's either genetic or immune system-related."
'Virtual cure'
Some people are naturally better at dealing with an HIV infection - so-called "elite controllers". However, whatever the child has is different to anything that has been seen before.
Replicating it as a new form of therapy - a drug, antibody or vaccine - would have the potential to help other patients.
It is worth noting that while there is no active HIV in the child's body, the virus has been detected in the child's immune cells.
HIV can hide inside them - called latent HIV - for long periods of time, so there is still a danger the child could need drug treatment in the future.
The team in Johannesburg performed the study alongside the UK's MRC Clinical Trials Unit.
'One child'
Prof Diana Gibb, who is based in London, told the BBC News website: "It captures the imagination because you've got a virtual cure and it is exciting to see cases like this.
"But it is important to remember it is one child.
Injections are 'next revolution' in HIV, study finds
Hunt for HIV cure turns to cancer drugs
Aids deaths halve as more get drugs
"HIV is still a massive problem around the world and we mustn't put all our eyes on to one phenomenon like this, as opposed to looking at the bigger issues for Africa."
Worldwide, 36.7 million people are living with HIV and only 53% of them are receiving antiretroviral therapy.
Dr Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said: "Further study is needed to learn how to induce long-term HIV remission in infected babies.
"However, this new case strengthens our hope that by treating HIV-infected children for a brief period beginning in infancy, we may be able to spare them the burden of lifelong therapy and the health consequences of long-term immune activation typically associated with HIV disease."

The results are being presented at the IAS Conference on HIV Science.

Religion / Israeli Police Ban Muslim Men Aged Under 50 From Friday Prayers In Jerusalem by Marawes: 4:59pm On Jul 21, 2017
Islamic leaders call for mass protests in response to the new security measures

Israeli police have banned Muslim men under the age of 50 from al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem.

The ban comes ahead of feared mass protests over the installation of metal detectors aimed at increasing security at the site.

Muslim leaders have called for mass protests at Friday’s noon prayers.
The shrine is revered by both Muslims and Jews.

Muslim leaders say Israel is trying to expand its control there by installing the security devices.

Gates were fitted with metal detectors after Palestinian gunmen launched an attack from there last week, killing two Israeli policemen.

Muslim leaders have called on worshippers to pray in the streets near the shrine rather than walk through metal detectors.

Over the course of the week, growing numbers of Palestinian worshippers have participated in street prayers, particularly in the evenings.

Following the prayers, small numbers of Palestinian protesters have clashed with police.
On Thursday evening, police fired rubber bullets, tear gas and stun grenades to disperse protesters who, according to police, threw rocks and bottles.

Paramedics from the Red Crescent said 37 people were injured by rubber bullets, three of them seriously.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said on Friday that reinforcements were being deployed in and around Jerusalem’s Old City, where the walled shrine is located.

“Police and border police units mobilised in all areas and neighbourhoods,” he said.

Friday is the highlight of the Muslim religious week, and tens of thousands of worshippers typically perform prayers at the shrine, known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount.

Politics / African Leaders 'treat Former Presidents Like Animals', Says Nigeria's Obasanjo by Marawes: 9:21am On Jul 21, 2017
African leaders should treat their former presidents with more dignity because currently “we are being seen as animals”, former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo has said.

Obasanjo told a tale of how Zambia’s independence leader and first president Kenneth Kaunda, who is now 93 and was hospitalised on Wednesday, was treated by his successors over an apparently trivial matter involving books.

Obasanjo was speaking at a French Embassy event in Pretoria on Wednesday night at the launch of the French translation of a book he co-authored with three others, including writer and consultant Greg Mills, called “Making Africa Work”.

“I came to Zambia when president Kaunda was being harassed, and I thought in Zambia, or any other country in Africa, we should treat our past presidents with a little bit more dignity,” he said.

Kaunda’s successor, Frederick Chiluba, was unhappy with Kaunda during the handover of power after Kaunda’s party lost in a snap election, and Obasanjo asked him what the matter was.

First president

“If president Kaunda had done anything that is wrong, deal with it humanely, but let me know what exactly he has done so I can go to him as my elder brother. And what he said to me, is president Kaunda removes all the books from the shelf in the State House, and I said: ‘Is that all?'”

Obasanjo said he went to Kaunda and asked him what was the matter. Kaunda said there was “not a single book” when he moved in, and all the books in the shelves were his.

Obasanjo said he went back to Chiluba and offered to “go around the world and collect more books” from the printers and publishers he knew to fill up his shelves.

Obasanjo said he told Chiluba to treat Kaunda well, because he was the first president to have the opportunity to treat a past president well.

Obasanjo said he also spoke out when former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was “being treated like an animal in a cage” when he had to face various trials in Egyptian courts before being acquitted earlier this year.

Mubarak was deposed in 2011.

Im still in shock about this, there're other religions that preaches hate in public and social media, also slaughter, and bomb people. I think this is an attack on christianity.
Religion / Russia Jehovah's Witnesses Banned After They Lose Appeal by Marawes: 8:17pm On Jul 18, 2017
Russia’s Supreme Court has ordered the disbanding of the Jehovah’s Witnesses on Russian territory.
The ban came into effect after the court rejected an appeal by the religious group against a ruling in April which declared it to be extremist.

The justice ministry had argued that the group distributed pamphlets which incited hatred against other groups.
The group described the ruling as the end of religious freedom in Russia.
The denomination says it has 175,000 members in Russia – a country where it was persecuted during the Stalin era.
An estimated eight million people worldwide are part of the Christian-based movement, best known for going door-to-door looking for new converts.

Jehovah’s Witnesses at a glance
Church lends weight to Putin patriotism
The ruling means that the group’s headquarters near St Petersburg and 395 local chapters will close.
It will be required to hand over all its properties, known as Kingdom Halls, to the Russian government.
The group’s Russia spokesman, Yaroslav Sivulsky, said that “religious freedom in Russia is over”.
“There were no real facts of any extremism on part of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It’s all about bad literature and intolerance. Now anyone who studies the Bible can be jailed,” he said, quoted by Newsweek magazine.

Media captionThe Russian authorities are clamping down on extremism nationwide
One pamphlet distributed by the group quoted the novelist Leo Tolstoy as describing the doctrine of the Russian Orthodox Church as superstition and sorcery.
Officials have accused the religion of destroying families, propagating hatred and endangering lives. The Church had also joined calls for a ban.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses group was founded in the United States in the 19th century.
They take most of the Bible literally and refuse blood transfusions. They are not seen by traditional Christian Churches as a mainstream denomination.
Participants attend a hearing on the justice ministry’s request to ban the Jehovah’s Witnesses at Russia’s Supreme Court in Moscow (20 April 2017)

The original Supreme Court ruling came in April this year
During Joseph Stalin’s reign of terror in the Soviet Union it was outlawed and thousands of members were deported to Siberia. Other Christian groups were also persecuted.
As the Soviet Union collapsed, there was a revival of Christianity in Russia and the ban on Jehovah’s Witnesses was lifted in 1991. But attitudes hardened again and in 2004 it was accused of recruiting children and preventing believers from accepting medical assistance.

Human rights group Sova has argued that an “official repressive campaign” has been conducted against the movement for years and many of their members have been physically attacked.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses are expected to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, but Russia may well ignore any verdict in their favour.

Foreign Affairs / Turkish Education Ministry Reveals New Curriculum: Evolution Out, ‘jihad’ In by Marawes: 7:35pm On Jul 18, 2017
The final version of Turkey’s national school curriculum has left evolution out and added the concept of “jihad” as part of Islamic law in books, Education Minister İsmet Yılmaz said on July 18.

The new curriculum will be put into execution for first, fifth, and ninth graders starting from this year, and it will extend to other classes in the 2018-2019 academic year. Accordingly, a total of 176 class curricula have been renewed.

“Jihad is an element in our religion; it is in our religion… The duty of the Education Ministry is to teach every concept deservedly, in a correct way. It is also our job to correct things that are wrongly perceived, seen or taught,” Yılmaz announced at a press meeting in the Turkish capital Ankara.

“In this manner, in the lessons on Islamic law and basic religion sciences, there will be [the concept of] jihad. But what is this jihad? What our Prophet [Muhammad] says is that while returning from a war, we are going from a small jihad to a big jihad. What is this big jihad? It is to serve our society, to increase welfare, to ensure peace in society, to serve the society’s needs. The easiest thing is to wage war, to fight. The skill is the difficult one, which is to ensure peace and tranquility,” he said.

Speaking about the controversial decision to exclude evolution, Yılmaz said it was not included in the national curriculum “because it is above the students’ level and not directly relevant.”

Information on last year’s failed coup attempt will also be included in the curriculum. “When the subject of winning democracy is covered in social sciences classes, we will want the July 15 National Unity Day to be covered, too,” Yılmaz said.

“In Turkish language classes, when topics on the national struggle led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk [founder of modern Turkey] are being discussed, July 15 [2016 coup attempt] will also be touched on,” the minister noted.

Yılmaz said the new curriculum will also include topics on the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The chairman of a teachers’ union described the changes as a huge step in the wrong direction for Turkey’s schools and an attempt to avoid raising “generations who ask questions.”

“The new policies that ban the teaching of evolution and requiring all schools to have a prayer room, these actions destroy the principle of secularism and the scientific principles of education,” said Mehmet Balık, chairman of the Union of Education and Science Workers (Eğitim-İş).

Romance / One Of The Best Ways To Attract Women And Have Them Pursue You by Marawes: 6:21pm On Jul 17, 2017
"If she thinks you want her too much, you’re going to lose your leverage." – Carlos Xuma

Movies and friends have led us to believe that if you're interested in a girl, you have to DESPERATELY pursue her, take her out to expensive dinners, buy her things, and spend tons of money on her to impress her and get her interested in you.

Sure, that might work on a gold digger who just wants your money.

But that's not how to go about attracting the 'perfect' girl to you.

Why?

Because, not only do you come across as needy and desperate, but when a woman knows she’s got your interest already it raises her value and power.

Confidential: Discover How to Be a Man Who Naturally Attracts Women

Okay, so you know you SHOULDN’T spend a lot of money on a girl or desperately pursue her to win her affection…

So how do you attract a girl to you and have her chase you?

Be a challenge
One of the best ways to make women or girls chase you is to be a challenge.

What this mean is that, instead of calling a girl all the time and being too available… acting apologetic in order not to offend a girl… buying things for a girl to please her… and doing all the wimpish things in the hopes that a girl likes you… DO THE OPPOSITE.

Don’t be a hopeless romantic or show too much interest. Instead, strive to exhibit attractive MANLY mannerisms and behaviors to pull her to you.

In simple words, make girls chase you by virtue of your attractive personality. That is, make her have fun around you, including mini-dating with her. Have emotional relevant conversations with her. Be funny and make her laugh, demonstrate confidence and dominance, etc...

...but DO NOT desperately pursue her like most guys.

Stand out in an attractive way
You see, attractive women or pretty girls are used to having guys desperately pursuing them. But if you are indifferent to a woman, you give her the impression that you’re the prize and hence, YOU ARE the one worth pursuing.

This makes you valuable and fulfilling to her.

But understand this: You don’t want to act too much DISINTERESTED. Because when there’s no interest on your part, the woman won’t feel the need to chase you.

So what I recommend is to express your desire. Let her know you find her attractive, and you’re not afraid to make a move. Here, you will mini-date with her (learn how here), flirt with her (learn how to flirt with a girl), give her some attention, etc.

But don’t DESPERATELY pursue her.

SUBTLY show interest, but leave her guessing and wondering whether you’re interested in her or not.

Convey to her you have options, and you can walk away any time. Especially when she’s acting b!tchy or plays hard to get.

That’s when the CHASE begins.

If you successfully create attraction and you act as if you’re not interested in her, she will be obsessed over you and will be intent on getting you. Because, not only are you NOT desperately pursuing her like most guys, but you embody the personality traits that makes you attractive – fun to be around, self-confidence, humor, dominance, etc. [Read the personality traits women find attractive in a guy]

Keep reading: A powerful way to build attraction with a girl you have a crush on

Conclusion: How to be a challenge
When you initially meet an attractive woman, you’d want her to have the impression that you’re not like the other guys she meets. So don’t approach with a compliment or a come-on.

Don’t put a woman on a pedestal. Don’t kiss a woman’s a$$ or do things to please her. Including buying her things to win her affection.

Don’t brag or show off to impress a woman. This communicates to her you’re insecure and needy.

Don't put up with a woman’s BS. Disagree with her when she’s in the wrong. And learn to disappoint or say “no” – that means, do things for a girl because you want to and not because she asks you to. [Read how to be an alpha male]

And as you act indifferent to a woman, demonstrate your manly qualities… example, show self-confidence, dominance, assertiveness, etc.

You should also bust her chops or playfully banter with her to convey to her you’re not like the guys she’s used to dealing with.

When you non-verbally communicate to a woman that you’re the prize, and therefore has to work for your affection, you’ll increase your attractiveness. And she will be the one chasing you instead.

Confidential: Discover A Simple, Step-By-Step Method For Cultivating A Secret Quality That Triggers Biological Attraction In A Woman… Without Even Opening Your Mouth

So, to conclude… when you meet an attractive woman, act as if you are not really interested in her, but strive to pull her to you by exhibiting attractive MANLY mannerisms and behaviors.

Travel / US And Saudi Arabia Deports 302 Ghanaians by Marawes: 4:35pm On Jul 17, 2017
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway has told Parliament that 365 Ghanaians have been officially screened by US immigration officials for deportation to Ghana while 800 Ghanaians working illegally under harsh conditions in Saudi Arabia have opted for voluntary repatriation to Ghana.

She said those Ghanaians working in Saudi Arabia took advantage of a three-month amnesty given to illegal immigrants by the Saudi government to leave the country with 800 Ghanaians having been processed by the Ghanaian Mission in Riyadh to be repatriated.

“In order to discourage people from violating the amnesty and risking arrest, the Ghanaian Mission is making efforts through social and electronic media to propagate the information both in Ghana and Saudi Arabia,” she said stressing that to reduce the cost and facilitate the process, the Ghanaian Mission in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah have subsidised the cost of processing Travel Certificates from SR 200 (Saudi Riyadh) to RS 50 to enable as many Ghanaians as possible take advantage of the voluntary repatriation.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs made these known on the floor of Parliament on Thursday when the ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of parliament and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa asked the Minister whether she was aware of 7,000 Ghanaian Immigrants in the US facing deportation and also whether the plight of Ghanaian domestic workers in the Gulf States has also come to her notice.

According to the Minister, after the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson had publicly announced that 7,000 illegal Ghanaian immigrants in the US were being processed for deportation, the Ghanaian Embassy in the U.S. made an enquiry from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to confirm the number but they were told that 180 Ghanaians were under deportation order while an additional 185 Ghanaians were at various stages of processing, pending final deportation orders.

“Subsequently, the ICE on 14th June, 2017 effected the repatriation of 63 out of the first 80 cleared for deportation, who arrived on a chartered flight on the said date,” she said.

She said after stories were told by the Ghanaian deportees that they were maltreated while being deported, her ministry caused a Note Verbale to be transmitted to the US authorities registering the Government of Ghana’s concern about the process and the alleged treatment of the Ghanaians during the flight to Ghana.

The Minister explained that when the US Ambassador to Ghana was summoned to the Office of the Minister over the allegation, he denied everything and said the deportees were never belly-chained or handcuffed for the duration of the flight and that it was inaccurate that the Ghanaian deportees were restricted and were unable to use the washroom on the flight.

She said the ministry has however told the US authorities to give the deportees the opportunity, where possible, to gather their belongings before departure.

“Meanwhile, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) is planning to repatriate another batch of Ghanaian nationals from the US to Ghana on a chartered flight in due course,” she said adding that the Ghanaian Mission in the US is yet to be provided with details of the number of deportees to be repatriated to Ghana.

On the abuse of Ghanaian domestic workers in the Gulf region, the Minister said since these domestic workers do not register with the Embassy in Saudi Arabia, it becomes difficult for the Mission to identify where these Ghanaians are being subjected to abuse adding that in cases where the abused employees manage to escape, the Embassy provides them with shelter at the Chancery and where necessary, arranges medical treatment for them.

“The Ministry will engage the diplomatic Missions of the destination countries to ensure that visas are not issued to persons who are not recognised by any competent Ghanaian authority for purposes of labour migration,” the Minister told parliament.

Foreign Affairs / Here’s Exactly Who Will Be Affected By President Trump's Travel Ban by Marawes: 2:07pm On Jul 14, 2017
A revised version of President Donald Trump’s travel ban goes into effect Thursday, following the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate some of the restrictions until it hears a case regarding the ban in the fall.

After initial confusion over the Court’s decision, the State Department issued guidelines Wednesday clarifying who would be included in the revised ban. The measure affects U.S.-bound travelers from six Muslim-majority countries, including Syria, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Yemen and Somalia.

The revised travel ban takes effect at 8 p.m. ET Thursday, according to the Associated Press. Here’s what to know about it:
Who can still come in?
Legal permanent residents (green card holders) of the U.S.
Those who have already been approved for a short-term visa
Refugees who have already been admitted to the U.S.
Dual nationals
Workers who have been offered employment by a U.S. company
Students who have been accepted to a U.S. university
Foreign nationals who have a close relative living in the U.S. This includes, according to the cable, a parent, spouse, child, adult son or daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law or sibling (full, half or step)
Who cannot come in?
Anyone not included in the above section who lacks what the Supreme Court said is a “bona fide relationship” with a U.S. person or entity. A school or job should constitute as an acceptable entity, but a hotel reservation, for example, would not count.
Foreign nationals without a “close” relative living in the U.S. According to the AP, this includes grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and fiancés
First-time tourists
There are a few other unique scenarios to keep in mind as well. Refugees who have applied to enter the U.S. but have not yet been approved could be prevented from entering, for instance.

A “bona fide relationship,” meanwhile, doesn’t have to be an offer of employment, acceptance into a school or the presence of close family members in the U.S. An academic lecturer could be invited to speak at an American university, for example, or a foreign journalist might seek entry for an assignment.

Such situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis so long as travelers have the proper documentation and U.S. entities are not inviting them over merely to circumvent the ban, the AP reports. The State Department’s guidelines should help to clear up confusion about the partial travel ban. But questions remain about how the ban will actually be implemented. And some commentators, including Supreme Court Justice Clarance Thomas, have warned the revised ban will simply invite more litigation.

Religion / Saudi Has Been Funding Mosques In Europe That Have Become Hotbeds For Extremism by Marawes: 1:47pm On Jul 14, 2017
Saudi Arabia has been funding mosques throughout Europe that have become hotbeds of extremism, Sir William Patey, the former British ambassador to Saudi Arabia, has said.
Saudi Arabia has been funding mosques throughout Europe that have become hotbeds of extremism, the former British ambassador to Saudi Arabia Sir William Patey has said.

His remarks come a day after the government published a brief summary of a Home Office-commissioned report into the funding of extremism in the UK. The full report is not being published for security reasons.

Patey said he did not believe Saudi Arabia was directly funding terrorist groups, but rather an ideology that leads to extremism, and suggested that its leaders might not be aware of the consequences. “It is unhealthy and we need to do something about it,” he said.

“The Saudis [have] not quite appreciated the impact their funding of a certain brand of Islam is having in the countries in which they do it – it is not just Britain and Europe.

“That is a dialogue we need to have. They are not funding terrorism. They are funding something else, which may down the road lead to individuals being radicalised and becoming fodder for terrorism.”

Patey said the Saudis “find it every easy to back off the idea that they are funding terrorism because they are not.

“What the World Association [sic] of Muslim Youth and the Muslim World League are doing is funding mosques and promoting an ideology – the Salifist Wahhabist ideology.”

He called for clarity on the definition of funding terrorism and “a grownup dialogue with the Gulf about what we think”. There were also “individual Gulf citizens that defied their governments to fund terrorism,” Patey added.

Patey, who was the UK ambassador to Riyadh from 2006 to 2010 and previously head of the Foreign Office Middle East desk, also questioned whether Saudi Arabia and its allies had worked out the implications of their bitter dispute with Qatar.

Three Gulf States – Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – along with Egypt, have sought to isolate Qatar diplomatically and economically, citing its support for terrorism and groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood.

“This has all the hallmarks of a policy that has not been thought through. It does not smack of a considered strategy,” Patey said at roundtable discussion in London organised by the Conservative Middle East Council.

“It is not a smart move even if you are sympathetic to their vision. It is a short cut to achieve something quickly and I think they miscalculated and I think they did think that with Trump behind them, Qatar would back down. They raised these stakes because they thought Qatar would back down in the end, so I think they were a bit surprised.”

The boycott had backfired, he argued and far from leading to a coup in Qatar, a cult had developed around the newly popular emir. “The Qataris are rallying round their leadership,” Patey said.

He said he believed the true motive for the dispute was not Qatar’s funding of terrorism, but a wider difference in political vision. “This is about the Muslim Brotherhood. It is a battle for the future of the Middle East,” he said.

Patey also questioned whether all the emirates within the UAE were united behind the boycott. “This is about Abu Dhabi asserting its dominance in foreign policy issues, because this is not in Dubai’s interest,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, Michael Stephens, the head of the Royal United Services Institute Qatar desk, said the Gulf row may lead to an intractable dispute that could prompt investors to think seriously about disinvesting across the Gulf.

“We are now facing five weeks of the conflict when most people thought it would last 72 hours,” he said, calling for a series of de-escalatory measures leading to a joint agreement to fight extremism.
