Ohhh that's cool, mind sharing the agent contact. I'm not sure my school has an accommodation group.

Okay will ask her and share if she’s fine with it

Thanks and agreed. Joining them daily and looking for more. 😊

House34:

Thank you for sharing your experience and advice but Joining local immigrant WhatsApp groups can be an excellent way to connect with others in your community and potentially find job and other opportunities, in addition to receiving accommodation suggestions. It's always helpful to have a network of support when settling into a new place. I arrived in Canada a few years ago, and my first job came from a recommendation I received through an African immigrant group that I had joined with other professionals. Therefore, no matter how wealthy you are, it's essential not to disconnect yourself from your society. Genuine networking is critical in Canada, especially for new immigrants. Please don't hesitate to seek out these support networks as they can be immensely valuable.

Hi, I'm also coming to Barrie, kindly help if you got any whatsapp or info especially on accommodation.

Hi, I used an agent online to get a place. Had to register on the site with a small fee (Re/max). Didn’t use a WhatsApp link or specific group. However, your school may have an accommodation group on WhatsApp if you are coming to study. You can ask the school

Thank you, this is what I ended up doing.

Sorry about this. The way to go about this, is to pay 3 to 6 months rent in advance as opposed to the normal 2 month rent. This shows commitment.

Shalom.

erm thanks and yes I get the other perspective but I can sha vent or air my own frustrations. Anyway, I have gotten an airbnb but clearly cannot stay there indefinitely. Anyway, that was me expressing my frustration and thanks for the advise on the license, will do

ednut1:
if you are a landlord with mortgage that has been affected by interest rate hikes. You will not take chances with a new comer. They cant see your heart 😬. You have been advised to get airbnb, when you land you can get the license and also open an account. Show to potential landlords your can afford 3 to 6 months rent . Some will take you. Streets no dey smile this period.

oh wow - this provides clarity. Thanks for sharing.

House34:

Becos eviction process favour tenant not landlord,so a landlord need shines is face before giving a space for rent to unkmown fellow without good checking.

"Small landlords — those who typically own just one or two rental units — can become homeless when a tenant refuses to leave a space the landlord needs for their own accommodations or the tenant cannot afford to pay rent.

CBC spoke to two other landlords in Ontario who were homeless, or are at risk of homelessness, due to delays in getting a hearing and eviction order from Ontario's Landlord Tenant Board (LTB) — the body that makes decisions when disputes arise between landlords and tenants.

Thanks got one. Why does the basement sound scary to me?
sisqology:

Use Airbnb, target basement. It is cheaper. You can also share room with another occupant if money is an issue

Hi everyone, I just got my student visa and will be coming to canada - Barrie ON on the 6th. I wanted to find out if its possible to get an accomodation there from my location. Or is it better to come in first.

Also between a Booking.com apartment/hotel and an airbnb, what would you recommend?

Thanks a lot

Hello everyone. Please I have some USD on cash (PTA) and I am coming to the UK next week for school. Should I change the USD to NGN and then to GBP or should I just change to Naira and put in my account and then change to GBP when I get to the UK? What do you think will be more cost effective?

Good morning All, post visa how do you sort out accommodation in the UK? I have been trying to use someone in the UK for inspections but most want to see me or speak to me directly. They wont call a Nigerian number. I am trying to avoid the hotel costs if I get there without accomodation and I dont want student or shared housing. Any ideas please?

Hi everyone.
So I am done with visas and cas et al. ready to move in Jan - no dependents. Coming with a tier 4 visa (student). I want to rent a place before i come in. Wanted to ask if this is wise. I have an offer to stay with a friend - I would rather not explore this. What would you suggest as the best approach?

As promised…here goes
Applied to the school on the 29th of July 2022
They gave the conditional offer on the 16th of August
I provided documentation on the 30th or August
Another offer with fees and conditions for CAS on the 28th of Sept
Paid the 5k pounds deposit on the 7th of October (I was still undecided)
Then I started the back and forth to get an unconditional offer
After one million calls and emails I got the unconditional offer on the 15th of November
Did the interview for CAS 16th
Got confirmation it went well on the 17th
Got CAS on the 21st of October
Applied for the VISA on the same day
Submitted on the 24th in VI and used the priority service
Received the visa on the 1st of December and the mail for BRP this morning

For the visa I already has a Uk tourist visa on my ppt. I showed 12m on a Globus account. I was required to have about 10m but wanted it to be adequate regardless of fluctuations in the oanda rates
Submitted all the docs required and some information on my job - employment letter, pay slips etc. no letter from my office. Declared I had one Uk visa refusal a few years ago as well.

I’ve got to say, I prayed about this a lot o. Every step there were challenges but I prayed and God intervened.

Also used the info here and asked questions when I got stuck.

Grateful to God and everyone and wish you all the best at the various stages you are in!

Good morning, I did the priority visa application last thursday. Still not come back to the UKVAC. Thought it was a 3-4 days process. Should I be worried?
