In answer to your questions my argument has been that language is not a determinant of tribal affiliation, since culture and history are  the foundation of any tribe. as to the tribes that disagree their reason would be strictly political ( this come from discussions i have had with friends on this topic)
Culture / Re: The 250+ Tribes/ethnic Groups In Nigeria by marvielson(m): 12:44am On Apr 03, 2010
as to having an identity crisis, lets keep things simple, i know the history of my people hence i can make the arguments i make and can back them up with examples from within and without. would you class Itsekiri as Uhrobo or vice versa? ever heard both languages?
Culture / Re: The 250+ Tribes/ethnic Groups In Nigeria by marvielson(m): 12:35am On Apr 03, 2010
Just when I thought this was done with, are we saying that Nigeria has a different definition of the noun tribe from the rest of the world? amoungst the yorubas this variance in language are dependent on the clans. I call them clans as they have a shared historical and cultural background. there may be tribes, that due to proximity to these clans, may speak the language in one of its varying form but have their own language and distinct heritage, my example the Eguns. Ife, and Oyo are clans within the Yoruba tribe. the Eguns are a tribe which speak Yoruba and their native Egun. Technically this is correct (unless i have missed something out in my analogy above if so please correct).

Now you explain yourself. however there are some tribes that would disagree with you. I do understand your view point and think it makes good sense.
Culture / Re: The 250+ Tribes/ethnic Groups In Nigeria by marvielson(m): 11:44pm On Apr 01, 2010
You acknowledge, by virtue of your question, the distinct historical and linguistic, and cultural backgrounds. How can they be the same tribe then? the Yorubas clans all agree that they are descended from Oduduwa. If we have dictinct and different historical and cultural backgrounds i.e. our identity as a people are not the same or shared how are we the same tribe?
In answer to my earlier question which you ignored this is the defination of the word tribe. this is the basis for my argument.
any aggregate of people united by ties of descent from a common ancestor, community of customs and traditions, adherence to the same leaders, etc. my people dont have a common ancestry with the Igbos hence Enuanis are not Igbos.

chineye is seems reading (understanding what you read) is a problem. not only do you not answer my Qs you dont have an answer to either of my senarios. angry While your at it, getting the dictionary meaning of the noun 'tribe' may help, good luck with reading, wink

As to the Huasa not getting 'anything' we pump oil all the way to kaduna so you can have jobs and launder more oil. they dont even have the raw material. talk about resourcefullness!!
Politics / Re: Blood And Oil (New BBC 2 Drama on Niger Delta Crisis) - Episodes 1 and 2 by marvielson(m): 11:55pm On Mar 31, 2010
I strongly agree that Tobodo is the future. Beaf u have to understand that he doesn't have to mention hausa or fulani to convey the message. What U should know is that, the way the Niger Deltans are going about it, even Ijaws don't want to share it with Igbos or Yoruba. And still within the Ijaws some certain group still want to claim higher share. A nation doesnt exist that way. I still say it every part of the country  can leave on its own resources, but the benefits we derive as a nation is more.[/quote

The verb 'share' is very different from the verb 'take'. ever been to Warri, or Sapele talkless of a village in the Niger-Delta?! Lets see things happening like laws against gas flaring, fines against pollution which are actually meted out, infrasstucture being built and maybe sharing will become an option. Do people remember the 11 Ogoni leaders killed, or journalists like Dele Giwa or the village of Odi that was wiped out by the military?! Our blood has been spilt for nothing its our country too. we deserve more.we dont want it all but we shouldn't be left in the middle ages while Nigeria catches up with the world. that is unfair.

Marvielson, do you lack knowledge of the level of unintelligibility found among Igbo lects? as well as the distinct cultural differences between Igbo sub-ethnicities (I don't particularly like/agree with that term, by the way)?

Because a language has become assimilated doesn't make me Igbo. there is a large cultural gulf between the enuanis and the igbos. language similarities dont mean we are igbo. for startes during the civil war it was biafra and her allies in mid western nigeria. also translate the name Nkoseikwu, i could give you a history in enuani which would contrast wildly with what you know as Igbo history. thus i state that like the Japanese and Chinese our languages might be similar or have the same mother language but we are not the same tribe.
Culture / Re: The 250+ Tribes/ethnic Groups In Nigeria by marvielson(m): 2:32pm On Mar 31, 2010
If am Igbo why can't i understand the Igbo man unless he is speaking my language? Italian and Spanish are quite similar and Italians with no knowledge of Spanish can hold basic convo with a Spaniard. This doesnt make the Italian Spanish does it?! Ignorance is irritating at best, appaling at worst. a lot of the smaller tribes have a distinct historical and cultural differences which if you'd ask you find out about.

I'v heard that when a woman sees a man in all nature's glory before time she loses respect for men, western culture has it's highlights and respect is not one of them. A guy likes to know he's loved by his woman and this show of affection in the morning does go a long way.
Sports / Indeginous Nigerian Coaches by marvielson(m): 1:59am On Mar 31, 2010
As usual we have sacked arguable the best indigineous Nigerian coach for a white man who will take our money and achieve nothing. wont it have been better to let amodu pit his wits against an international colleague and learn from the experience. We have Siasia, Keshi and Eguavon, all who have lead a nanational team to an international tournament or managed a team outside Nigeria. why dont they fit the bill. What is so bad about amodu that we cannot think to send him to gain an europrean license but are quick to give him the job when no 1 wants the Nigerian job?

southerners do no wrong, notherners do all the wrongs. ha! first, you screamed sanusi must go, danbazau must go even yaradua must go. but dora, who did a famous somersault in her insatiable bid for power is your hero.

the finance sector is in the firm grip of the south and when those thieving banksters (who mostly are southerners) nearly crippled the banking system it required a northerner to mop up the mess. and then you all bayed for his head, even though the investments he's trying to salvage are largely owned by southerners.

your prejudice will never let go of you.

no wonder the south is decadent.

it gives me pleasure to see that most of the shame brought upon nigerians is by hands of the southerners:

1. looters (James ibori, alams, tafa balogun, mike okiro etc)

2. kidnappers

3. pipeline vandals

4. armed robbers

5. fake drug importers

6. drug dealers

7. smugglers

9. oil bunkerers

10. 419ners

11. counterfeiters

12. blackmaketeers

13. bandits, rogues, highwaymen

14. abortionists

15. HIV spreaders

16. teen pregnancies

17. ritualists and ritual murderers

18. con men

19. rapists

20. drunks

21. love-peddlers (some parading as graduates, others actual graduates)

and every single evil, degenerate, immoral acts known and unknown to man perpetuated in nigeria and beyond.

gaddafi is right, we need to unburden ourselves with the plague called the south

frigging misguided narrow-visioned bigots.

Dear friend dont excuse the north from the mess our country is in.depriving girls the right to go to school and raping a 9yr old in the name of marriage is as perverted and decadent as a greedy fraudster. when pointing a finger 4 point back at you.

Growing up in 9ja means that me and a caucasian see the world through very different eyes; i have no problem killing and preparing my own meat she's never seen it done talkless of doing it herself. there is also the racial angle, did you know that the most searched queestion starting with the word 'WHY' on google is "why are black people so ugly" .I am refering to google.co.uk where I live sadly.

Pretty symbolic of Nigeria's problems. liked the speech bout "Nigerian Mr A", the truth is rarely told better.

My tribe, the Enuani people, wrongly refered to as ika ibos most of the time, speak a dialect of Igbo that the Binis, the Ikas and the Igbos can understand, even though we dont understand their languages as the differences are quite immense. does this make us Bini, Ika and Igbo even when we dont understand these languages?
