Please has anyone here been able to book a 221G interview this week? No interview dates popping up or am I checking at the wrong times?
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by MaryAndrews: 1:04pm On Mar 27, 2022
I get your point.
In the past, we could get a B visa just because we wanted to go to the US to give birth. Effective January 2020, the US embassy has stopped issuing visas for the sole purpose of birth tourism. I have attached a screenshot from the Embassy's website.
In recent times, people have been travelling either with tourist visa (I hear you need to inform the embassy before travelling to give birth) or medical visas (with proof of why you need to travel for medical. Pregnancy related or not).
Even women who are not visibility pregnant and go for a tourist visa interviews are warned not to use it for childbirth without informing the embassy.
If she plans to use the visa for birthing, she can apply for a medical visa.

Please has anyone been able to figure out why some people were asked to schedule 221G follow up interviews online while some were asked to come any Thursday?

Also, please specifically if you were told to schedule your 221G follow up interview online (after IW submission) and you have had your interview, please share your experience.

Thanks

Wow. Congratulations.
Please can you share your transcript when you have the time.
Was your last visa issued specifically for childbirth?
If not, did you send an email to the embassy before travelling to give birth? And did you stay longer than the time you put on your DS160

sappy1981:
Good Morning Nadnad,

I was one of the fortunate few to get my visa approved after the first used for Child birth purposes on that day. The VO was very firm and denied all who had stayed longer than the declared period on the DS 160 form.

Its a bad story for the couple banned from the USA for life. It is well.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate

Well there can be difference,it depends on the consular. The consular actually asked the lady if she wanted to birth there,

Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by MaryAndrews: 11:06am On Mar 13, 2022
Wow. Thank you so much for this detailed write up. Very enlightening.

Please just to clarify, the lady who gave birth on a tourist visa, what lie did she tell?
Also, based on the dynamics you saw on Friday, is there any hope for someone who didn't send a letter to the embassy before travelling on a tourist visa to give birth? I didn't know I needed to send a letter. I was truthful about everything though. I got the tourist visa for a visit one year before I even found out I was pregnant. I didn't go on that visiting trip because of the covid shutdown in March 2020. In fact, it is that same Delta airlines ticket I requested changes to when I eventually travelled. I declared my intention to give birth in the US to the immigration officer at my POE and he asked how much my medical bills estimate was and how much I had prepared. I answered truthfully too. I also did IW and got a 221G.

temyb:
Hello everyone. This is going to be a long post

A lady was denied simply because she used her tourist visa to give birth without informing the embassy and she lied. The consular wasn't convinced and even asked her that did she ever write a letter to the embassy to notify them that she wants to use the visa to birth. She said No despite her tendering her hospital receipt and all.
Infact I learnt alot yesterday.

Please be truthful and remember to write a letter letter the embassy if your visa isn't for birth purpose.

No it wasn't in the email. The email only tells you that your passport is ready to be picked up at DHL.
The instruction letter to schedule an interview or show up for an interview is included with your passport when you collect it.

Teebaby89:
Hello , did they send an email with that information? I may have missed it. I haven't seen any date on my profile to schedule a new appointment yet

Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by MaryAndrews: 3:48pm On Mar 08, 2022
Was anyone here at the DHL office today? Something is definitely happening there. The security lady at the door claimed the queuing machine was not working, so we were writing our names on a paper list. The people attending to us were calling people by their names and taking their sweet time, ever so slowly. The hall was full and people were complaining about waiting over two hours when those who came last month barely spent 30 minutes. Only for their manager to come and when people complained to him, he initially said the machine was faulty (maybe his staff told him so) next thing, the manager tried the machine, and it was working. Looks like the staff were purposely taking their time so people would offer them something to skip the queue. It also turned out that they were calling from various lists, omitting names and people at the bottom of some list had collected and left while people at the top were still waiting in anger. There was complete mayhem at some point as everybody was shouting

So I picked up my passport from DHL today. The option they ticked for me on the letter was to schedule an appointment.
I submitted on the 24th February and the letter is dated 28th February. I got the pickup email yesterday 7th March.
The letter doesn't tell me why they need me to schedule an appointment o. I was hoping to get some pointers from the letter

I'm wondering if there is a difference between those asked to come for interview on any Thursday and those asked to schedule an interview online after an initial refusal

Nadnad:

Great prep them up for the interview
Am hopeful that mine would be to come for follow up interview as well.
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by MaryAndrews: 6:56pm On Mar 07, 2022
You'll schedule a follow up appointment.
No need to reapply
They just need further information or documentation from you to decide your case.
Wait till you pick up your passport. There'll be instructions enclosed.

Reapplication is for "denied" visas

Qtip:
Hello guys, my IW status states refused “ a consular has adjudicated etc…And I just got a mail to pick up my document . Does it mean I have to reapply or I will get a follow-up interview email? Please help.
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by MaryAndrews: 6:53pm On Mar 07, 2022
You'll schedule a follow up appointment.
When you pick up your passport, there will be a form stating what documents you need to provide to explain your case.
No need to pay new visa fees or schedule a regular appointment

fekeoshomoshi:
Thanks.

Please, does that means those refused are to go get a new visa fee and schedule a regular interview or reschedule a followup appointments with the previous visa fee receipt?

Are you saying they are yet to send an email for you to pick up your passport? If they haven't, how did you know you were to schedule an interview?

Also, please when did you originally submit for IW?

I went to the embassy for my follow up interview but my passport was not with me; still with them so the processing guys did not allow me go for the interview.

I do not think there's anything to worry about. They've definitely received it. Processing times may vary. Remember they warned us it could take up to 8 weeks. Though I think you should get a response before 2 weeks

Donde:
I submitted my passport for IW on March 1st and the status still shows Application Received, with the last update on March 2nd. Should I be worried?

Overstay is when you stay beyond the date they stamp you in for on arrival in the US.

When the Immigration officer stamps your passport on arrival, they write a date you are allowed to stay till (usually 6 months for me). If you stay beyond that date, you have overstayed.

ninab:

Over stay is from how many months

Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by MaryAndrews: 12:48pm On Feb 20, 2022
I don't think there's any consequence if you don't go for IW.
Note that an IW appointment is a lot less stressful than an Interview though. Shorter wait time at the embassy and no questions asked.
The only people I'm sure got IW dates were all for February 2022. All these July dates....I don't know o.
I'll advise you keep your April 2022 appointment date for now and keep checking for an IW date in March (the embassy is yet to release March dates). If you don't get an IW date earlier than your interview date, you go for the interview. If you do, you go for IW.
Also, be sure you still qualify for IW before you cancel your April 2022 appointment if you happen to see earlier IW dates. April 2022 interview dates are scarce o. So be double sure that IW dates are available before you cancel, even if you qualify.
Good luck!

iyaaliyah:
Good morning.

Please ohh, what is the earliest date anyone found for IW? My regular interview comes up in early April this year. Should I wait it out and go for interview or try to get IW appointment?
Considering that peeps are not getting earlier date for IW. What should I do please?

Thank you.

Note: I am not actually in a hurry, if no consequence of not going for IW, will wait it out.

All these July 2022 IW dates, are you sure they are for IW? I thought the embassy only released February 2022 dates for IW.
Did y'all click on the IW option when booking or did you choose "all other visa classes"?
Or did you use an agent?

Wow! We learn everyday.
Please when did this happen?
Also what was their respective POEs (Port of Entry)?

AmeliaT:
Congratulations! Send them a message to notify them. My sister in law went to give birth and was called aside with 11 other Nigerian pregnant women. 11 were deported and she was the only one who made it in because she had sent them an email notifying them of her pregnancy and intent to give birth there. The others were told they were deceitful in their applications. The same thing happened to a colleague, my bank officer and a mutual friend- mutual friend was very rude and constituted a nuisance and was slapped with a 5-year ban as well.

Cover your tracks by sending that email. All the best!

You do not need to pay new application fees or fill a new application form.
All you need to do is go to the CGI page to cancel your old appointment and book a new Interview Waiver (IW) appointment. They'll ask some questions to check if you qualify for interview waiver before you are directed to the IW booking calendar. So be sure you qualify first before you cancel. The criteria is listed on the Embassy's website.
Also note that as at yesterday, there were no IW dates available but a few people have booked today. So don't panic if there are no dates available. Keep checking, but not more than 4 times a day so that they don't freeze your account for 72 hours.
Good luck!

Prior to the U.S lifting their restrictions on drop-box, I have booked for my visa renewal application and I have a date for May 2023.

With the lifting of the restrictions, I am qualified to apply / renew my F1 visa with the drop-box.

My question is that can I do so with the previous application fees I had paid for my appointment in 2023? or do I need to pay another fee for the drop box?

Also, would i be needed to fill another application or the application I had completed earlier for my 2023 date will suffice for the drop box.

Any insights would be appreciated.
