Two underage children of the same parents, Olufemitan Olaitan 9 and Oluwafifunmi Olaitan 7, were found dead inside a non-functioning deep freezer in Eyin Ala area of Akure, Ondo state capital yesterday April 12th.

According to reports, Mrs Olubunmi Olaitan, the mother of the deceased had gone out of their home to run some errands. She came back to meet her two sons inside the non-functioning deep freezer and raised an alarm. No one could explain how the two primary school students got into the freezer and suffocated before they gave up.



While some residents suspect someone might have killed the children and dumped their bodies in the freezer, others are of the opinion that the children might have been playing inside the non-functioning deep freezer and got locked inside while there was no one at home to rescue the kids.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Femi Joseph said that there was no trace that the boys were killed, saying that the command did not make any arrest on the matter.

“We did not suspect any foul play because it appears as if the kids were playing inside the deep freezer and they were locked up in the process, while there was nobody at home to open the door for them.” he said

The remains of the boys have been deposited in a morgue.

Senator Shehu Sani who represents Kaduna central in the national assembly, says there are plans by his political opponents in Kaduna state to frame him for murder. The senator said this following a letter from the Kaduna state police command inviting him over for questioning over “criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide”.



The command invited him over after a criminal suspect, Isa Garba , who was arrested in January in a murder case, was said to have implicated him.



The command in its letter with ref. no. CR: 2000/KDS/VOL 5H/72, narrated how the suspect confessed he participated in the killing of one Lawal Madugu. Garba also reportedly implicated Bashir Hammadada while Hammadada mentioned the name of Sani. The case was transferred to the police by one division of the Nigerian army in Kaduna. The army also sent to the police an audio CD in which Shehu’s name was mentioned by the principal suspect, Austin Iwar. Sani was asked to report to the office of the commissioner of police in Kaduna on April 30th 2018, at 10am.



The letter was sent through the Clerk of the National Assembly, while Senate President, Bukola Saraki, was also copied.



The letter reads in part: “This is in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide transferred to this office by 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, alongside with exhibit audio CD in which your name was mentioned by the principal suspect. This is to enable us fairly and timely conclude investigation into the matter.”


Reacting to the development, Sani who is at loggerheads with the Kaduna state government and the Buhari-led administration, alleged that the government plans to frame him just as they framed Dino Melaye.

“They want to frame me the same way they frame Senator Dino Melaye in Kogi on allegation of arming thugs. There is an attempt to frame me up with a murder case by the Kaduna State Government using the police. A letter has been written from the office of the Commissioner of Police office but it has not been delivered to us. This is a case that is before the court of law. The governor wrote the judge expressing his interest in the case.”he said

Yesterday, the Nigerian Army in Lagos said seven of its troops wounded-in-action in the North East would be flown abroad for advanced medical treatment.



The Acting Chief Medical Director, 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Yaba, Brig.-Gen. Adekola Dada, disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the hospital in Lagos.



Dada said that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, had approved the foreign medical trip for the troops to ensure wounded personnel got the best medical attention when the need arose.



“We have some wounded soldiers who have been referred abroad. As I speak to you, we have about seven approvals we just received. Those ones will be on their way to India in a few days for treatment. They were approved by the COAS and they were wounded in action,” he said.



Dada refuted an online report by an anonymous army captain who accused the Nigerian Army of neglect after he was injured in Maiduguri in 2014, saying there was nothing of such. He maintained that the Nigeria Army had no such record of a neglected personnel as all wounded personnel have been adequately catered for.



“It beats my imagination that someone could put up such kind of allegation. As long as I can remember, every single personnel wounded in action have been taken care of. Sometimes, there are thousands of dollars involved in each person’s treatment. There are soldiers who were wounded whose cost of treatment runs into 25 to 40 thousand Dollars. If you compute that, then you will know the cost is enormous. If you combine that with the fact that any personnel who is going for medical treatment abroad must be accompanied with a medical escort who will also be taken care of by the system. Then you know how much is been done by the COAS. Of course you know that there is nothing you will do that you won’t find people who are not satisfied. If someone has an issue, he should be able to come out, tell his name and state his issue not hide under an anonymous person and writing what is not true,” he said.


He also maintained that for every wounded personnel and depending on the degree of the injury, there was a process to be followed especially when there was need to be flown out for the Country.

According to the Minister of Information and Communication, Lai Mohammed, a fresh looters list will be released soon. He says the two lists that have been released so far are just a tip of the iceberg.

The minister said this when he spoke with journalists on Sunday afternoon on his way to Abuja after his condolence visits to Kwara state dovernor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, following the Offa bank robbery attack that left over 20 people dead last Thursday.

’’We are not going to ask anybody not to go to court, but what we are telling them is that they should re-examine themselves because when the government came out with its list, it was confident of the evidence it has. No government worth its salt would be challenged and would not come out to prove that what its saying is correct. When it comes to evidence it’s for the courts to decide, but we want to make it clear that no amount of intimidation from any side would prevent the government from releasing the next batch of looters lists and what you have seen so far is a tip of the ice bag when the list comes out. You will see that many people that Nigerians did not suspect partook in the national looting’’ he said

He added that the list was released when PDP members challenged the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to name the looters of the Nation's treasury when he said that a few days to the hand over of the former President Goodluck Jonathan, about N100 billion was shared by the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A patient shocked medical personnel when he walked into China's Dalian Central Hospital with a long wire hanging in between his legs.

The 60-year-old pensioner said he got the three-foot long phone charger stuck in his penis after he used it up to "scratch an itch".

Recounting what led to the cable being stuck in his Instruments, the patient said he was at home when he felt an itch so he grabbed the thinnest yet longest object he could find to insert up his urethra.

He added: "It was a mobile phone charging cable. I didn't disinfect it, but I washed it a bit."

But he did not explain why it was necessary to insert up to 20 inches of the wire into his body before stopping.

Urologist, Gao Zhangfeng who works with the male reproductive organs, took the man's case, after the embarrassed patient came into the hospital.

Doctor Gao said: "Getting it in there is easy. But it twisted in his bladder and created a knot, so he couldn't pull it out again.

Instead of invasive surgery, the medic chose laser treatment, burning through the phone cable knot and successfully pulling around 30cm of the foreign body out.The patient has since been discharged after the operation and is not expected to suffer any long-term effects.

"I’ve learnt my lesson, " the patient said when asked whether he would try it again.

The housemates were given a task by Big Brother to paint their various corners and be creative about it; but while other housemates decided to just paint their walls, Tobi Bakre not only painted, he also drew an image on his bedside wall.


The drawing, however, has been causing serious debates among viewers, as to who he drew. Some viewers believe that he drew Cee-C, another fellow housemate who was romantically involved with him in the house; while some people think the person is Tobi’s real girlfriend, Regina.

So far, Tobi has refused to disclose who he drew, even to fellow housemates who wanted to know.

Maj. Gen. Marcus Hicks, the Commander of the United States’ Special Operations Command Africa has described Boko Haram as the most lethal terror organisation in the world despite claims by the federal government that the extremist group had been significantly degraded and technically defeated.

The issue of Boko Haram’s power came up at a press briefing held in the US during the week on anti-terror efforts of the US government and made available to Thisday by the US embassy.

The military commander spoke on US efforts to reinforce development, diplomacy, and defence, including the Flintlock, an annual exercise in Africa, and noted that the US had shifted its focus of training from tactical proficiency of small units to command and control of joint forces.

“Likewise, we have participants from the Multinational Joint Headquarters in N’Djamena that address the threats of ISIS West Africa, which is really in North-eastern Nigeria, and Boko Haram, its predecessor….which is the most lethal terrorist organisation in the world, in Lake Chad,” General Hicks remarked.

When asked why Nigeria and other African nations are so important to the US, the American Ambassador to Niger, Eric Whitaker, at the conference said: “I think Africa is important to US’ national security for a variety of reasons. We have a long, historic relationship with the African continent and its 54 countries, keeping in mind that no less than 13 per cent of our US population derives from the mother continent. Africa, a continent of over 1 billion residents, is a continent with which we have important relationships, whether it’s in diplomacy, development, or defence for several decades now.

“We wish to expand trade with these countries, including through the AGOA, the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act, to help countries develop their economies through trade. We also have humanitarian assistance to help countries who have food insecurity situations, for example.” Hicks added that the training focused on members of the G5 Sahel and the Multinational Joint Task Force, around Lake Chad with eye on Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa.

Speaking further, he said: “We hope and plan to exercise command and control over tactical units at the joint multinational headquarters, which will be located in Agadez, and this will be the first year that Flintlock’s training audience will actually exercise command and control over tactical units in a scenario. The scenarios will be based on real-world threats of the violent extremist organisations currently threatening our partner nations in the greater Sahel…. We also believe in the D3 approach, and as we bring a defence aspect to enable diplomacy and development, we also bring in training our African partners in military information support operations in order to counter the extremist messaging and to promote defection from extremist organisations.”

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Imohimi Edgal officially commissioned the Tejuoso Police Post on Thursday 5th of April 2018.

The ceremony which attracted several dignitaries from different works of life including Alhaja Amisu, the Iyaloja of Tejuoso Shopping Centre and Mr. Babatunde Ige, the Chief Finance Officer of the centre, held at the premises of the Police station adjacent to the Shopping centre.


Speaking at the occasion, Mr Babatunde thanked the Inspector General of Police for giving approval for the establishment of the Police Post. He promised that the Tejuoso community will give the Post the needed support to function optimally.


The CP thanked the management of the shopping centre for providing space for the establishment of the police post saying that the Post would checkmate crime and criminality within and around Tejuoso community. Speaking further at the occasion, the CP called on other communities within Lagos to emulate the Tejuoso community by providing space for establishment of Police Posts. According to the CP, such move will bring policing closer to the people in line with the community policing and safety partnership philosophy of the Force.

President Buhari has approved the purchase of military hardware worth $1billion for the use of the Nigerian Armed Forces. President Buhari gave the approval during a meeting with the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd), and the service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja today April 4th.



Dan-Ali disclosed this to State House correspondents shortly after the meeting which also discussed the safe release of Leah Sharibu, the last of the Dapchi schoolgirls still in Boko Haram captivity. The Minister said the money was the same approved by the state governors to be withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account to fight insurgency in the country.

Police in Barnet, North London are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of a 27-year-old man who has absconded from hospital.

Oluseun Michael Olaifa was last seen at 15:00hrs on Thursday, March 29, whilst attending Barnet General Hospital.

Oluseun is described as black, 5ft 4ins tall, of slim build with short black hair.

When last seen, he was wearing a black hat, a black jacket, black gloves, a grey jumper, black jeans and black trainers.

Tyga and his 5-year-old son are being sued over unpaid rent. According to TMZ, they are being sued by Simon Cowell's makeup artist and ex-fiancee, Mezhgan Hussainy.

The report claims that Tyga rented a Beverly Hills house from Hussainy for $40K a month. He moved in March of 2017 and was paying his rent until he stopped.

In the report, Hussainy claims that the rapper stopped paying rent in January 2018. She's hoping to evict Tyga from her property and wants to get all of the rent back.

The suit against Tyga also lists his five-year-old son King Cairo because he listed him on the lease. In the suit, the child is listed as "other defendants."

A grandmother has been arrested in Benin city, Edo state after she burnt her grand daughter's fingers because she ate a plate of indomie without her permission. According to eyewitnesses, the grandmother tortued her granddaughter by placing her hand on a gas stove until it got badly burnt.

A person who witnessed the incident reported the case to the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs who alerted the police and the grandmother has been arrested. The little girl is currently receiving medical care at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital UBTH.

A 29-year old car wash attendant, Mohammed Chado, has been arrested by the police in Abuja for allegedly selling a year 2000 model of Toyota Camry that a client had asked him to wash.

The suspect, who was working at a car wash outlet in Apo, Abuja, allegedly made away with the car and sold it for N450,000, which he reportedly used to marry a wife.

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Sadiq Bello, said: “Chado was arrested at Batafe village in Niger State where he was hiding after he sold a Toyota Camry 2000 model that was given to him for washing."

The stolen car has been recovered.” Chado, in an interview with newsmen, explained that he spent N300,000 on his wedding and expended the balance on feeding and other needs.

The suspect said: “I gave the money to my family to buy the needed wedding items, then I spent the balance on feeding myself for one year.”

On Saturday, 31 March 2018 at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, WBA and IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will go head to head against WBO title-holder Joseph Parker.

The drama in Big Brother house looks like it's not going to be ending anytime soon, with ex-housemate Khloe recently introduced back into the reality show.

This morning a clash broke up between Nina, Khloe and Cee-C, and this didn't go down well as they nearly came to blows.

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has restated the commitment of his administration to partner with the Nigerian Prisons Service to address some of the challenges affecting the prisons system in the State.



The Governor, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tunji Bello, during a study visit of delegates from the Nigerian Prisons Service Academy, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, added that the State Government is willing to collaborate with them in meeting some of their demands and enabling them to live up to expectations in the State.



He informed that despite the State Government’s awareness that the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison and Ikoyi Prison have become overpopulated as well as unsuitable for the present locations, the State Government cannot relocate them without the consent of the Federal Government.



Ambode stressed that the State Government’s desire to relocate the prisons to places like Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe axis where vacant land exists was made unachievable by the refusal of the last government at the centre. He explained that a clear example was the reforms that the State Government introduced in the Judiciary which not only improved welfare packages of judicial officers but strengthened the institution against corruption.


The Governor stated that since the inception of Democracy, the Government has continued to develop infrastructure in the State because the present administration places so much value on human capital and ensures everything works for all citizens in a bid to reduce crime in the society. Earlier in his Speech, the Commandant of Prisons Academy, Ijebu-Igbo, and the head of the team Ag. ACG Benson Oluwayiopese stated that Lagos was chosen as a place to visit because the State has become the leading light in the comity of States with a great leader behind its success story.


He added that the achievements that have been recorded by the present Administration resonate across the world. The Commandant thereafter presented a plaque titled “Exemplary Leadership Award” to the Governor through the SSG, Mr. Tunji Bello.

At a time when drug abuse is a national health issue, Nigeria may soon relax its law against planting and consumption of cannabis, with declaration that the United Nations ((UN) has approved usage of the drug for medical purposes.

The position of UN on the usage and abuse of drug was declared by Project Officer of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Nigeria, Harsheth Kaur Virk, in her presentation at a one day Public hearing on the need to check rising menace of Pharmaceutical drugs abuse among youth in Nigeria organised by the Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Health.

According to her, Cannabis is a miracle drug allowed for medical purposes by the United Nations, but not for recreational purposes. She said: “Nigeria as a sovereign Nation has its stringent laws against it but international conventions of the UN have approved it for medical purposes based on outcome of researches conducted to that effect by globally recognized institutes.”

According to her, aside cannabis, recreational users of other addictive drugs by UN recommendation, should not be criminalised, but rehabilitated, adding, “The Drugs and Crime office of the UN sees addictive drugs users as people who are sick, in need of treatment, care and rehabilitation.”

The UN official however pointed out that the global body was against drug trafficking. She charged Nigeria’s security agencies to be proactive in their anti-drug trafficking campaign and not reactive.
